Park "Russia - My History"

An ideal place for those who want to learn more about Russia's rich and interesting past. When creating the park, materials from museums, libraries, and archives were used, and many documents became available to the general public for the first time. “Russia is my history” is a project implemented using the latest technologies. The exhibition uses 3D models, animation, digital reconstructions, and video infographics.

Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics

The museum is located inside the monument to the Conquerors of Space on Cosmonaut Alley. The highlight of the exhibition is a full-size model of part of the Mir station, which was flooded in the early 2000s. Visitors have the opportunity to touch the great space history Russia. You are allowed to view the layout not only from the outside. Anyone who wants to feel like an astronaut is allowed inside.

"Worker and Collective Farm Woman"

The legendary monument by Vera Mukhina, located near the Northern entrance of VDNKh. The monument, which was called “the standard of socialist realism,” still remains one of the symbols of Moscow. Today, the sculpture’s pedestal houses a museum and exhibition center. On its territory there are exhibits telling about the history of “The Worker and the Collective Farm Woman”.

Fountain "Friendship of Peoples"

Now the fountain, considered one of the key symbols of VDNKh, is closed for restoration. Still, more than 60 years have passed since its launch. The opening is planned for 2018. In the center of the fountain composition is a bowl-like sheaf. Around him stand 16 beauties, symbolizing the Soviet republics. By the way, not far from the “Friendship of Peoples” there are two more remarkable fountains - “Stone Flower” and “Golden Ear” - which are also currently being restored.

Ostankino Tower

The tallest building in Europe. We advise you to try to get to the observation deck - there are excursions there, but only from May to October. At the same time, the number of people in groups is also limited - only 90 visitors are allowed. If you are one of the lucky ones, then on the observation deck you will see a truly impressive view of Moscow.

Pay attention to the Cosmos Hotel located near the VDNH metro station, in walking distance from the attractions described in the article. On the hotel’s website you can not only study its rooms and prices, but also find a valuable announcement of current events taking place on the territory of the Exhibition of National Economic Achievements: exhibitions, master classes, creativity lessons, parades, shows, fairs and much more...

VDNKh (VVC) is one of the most popular attractions in Moscow. Also in Soviet time this complex attracted many visitors, and now it is also popular among both visitors and residents of the capital. Why should you definitely visit VDNKh in Moscow and what should you see at the exhibition first?

Objects worthy of attention

VDNH is a large park with many exhibition pavilions and museums. On the street between them there are walking alleys, benches, fountains, beautiful flower beds, attractions, and cafes. You can spend the whole day here and not have time to see everything.

Most interesting places VDNH:

  • fountains: composition on the Alley of Fountains, “Friendship of Peoples”, “Stone Flower”, “Golden Ear”;
  • Space Museum;
  • Museum of Science and Industry;
  • architectural model of Moscow;
  • Toy Museum;
  • Museum of Fairy Tales “Once Upon a Time”;
  • summer reading room;
  • Sky Town rope park;
  • beach "Port at VDNKh".

Of course, this is not all that can be seen at VDNH in Moscow. To visit all the attractive sites, you will need almost a whole vacation.

Museums and exhibitions

They are considered the main objects of this complex, because it was created primarily for numerous exhibitions. One of the most interesting is the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics. It has been operating since 1981. Its exhibition tells about the main stages of the development of astronautics. The interior of the museum helps visitors feel far away from Earth: the decor is reminiscent of the interior of a spaceship, the ceiling is decorated with lighting reminiscent of stars. At the very entrance there is a bronze statue of an astronaut and a sphere with the signs of the zodiac. The museum displays spacesuits, photographs of the other side of the Moon, a variety of space technology, as well as projects for future developments. In addition to the exhibition halls, there is also a cinema hall, where a special audiovisual program shows views of space and creates the illusion of being there.

The Polytechnic Museum is no less interesting. This is a temporary exhibition, moved from the main building during its reconstruction. The exhibition is called “Russia Does Itself” and is dedicated to various scientific and technical developments and the activities of outstanding scientists. Its main topics are space, optical illusions, anthropogenesis, natural analogues, mysteries of the nucleus and plasma. The exhibition is located in pavilion 26, one of the first in the complex.

The architectural model of Moscow in pavilion 75 also deserves attention. It represents almost the entire capital in miniature. At the same time, the authenticity of buildings and streets in detail is noteworthy: mosaics and bas-reliefs are made on historical houses, like the original, the Moscow River is depicted using a technique that creates the effect of ripples on the water.

  • The toy museum is called “Factory of Christmas tree toys at VDNKh”. Its entire exposition is dedicated specifically to decorations for the New Year's green guest. Ancient and modern toys are exhibited here, and guides dressed as gnomes talk about the techniques for creating various products and the traditions of celebrating the New Year in different countries.

The museum also hosts master classes on painting Christmas tree balls. For such homemade toys, special boxes are provided that will prevent the balls from breaking. There are especially many visitors here before the New Year and on holiday weekends.

  • The Museum of Fairy Tales "Once Upon a Time" conducts play excursions. In them, children themselves participate in the plots of famous stories, help the heroes overcome difficulties, or become the main characters themselves. The interior is decorated in the style of Russian fairy tales. Children are given hero costumes and other paraphernalia (spinning wheels, heroic armor, horse harnesses). The museum also hosts theatrical performances.

Outdoor recreation

People's interest in VDNKh is also caused by numerous street entertainments on the territory of the complex. The Sky Town rope park is very popular. It is located high above the ground, and at the very top there is Observation deck, from which it opens panoramic view to the territory of VDNKh. The park includes several rope routes of three difficulty levels, a children's parkour playground and a swing with a swing of 16 meters. The passage of sections is carried out under the guidance of trainers.

For literature lovers there is a summer reading room (not far from the Central Alley). These are shelves with numerous books. To visit it, you need to get a library card, and then study the works in comfort on a pouf or in a hammock. After reading the book, it is permissible not to put it back, but to give it to some library in the city or leave it on the bookcrossing rack. Therefore, the list of brochures for the reading room is constantly changing.

A popular summer attraction is the “Port at VDNKh” beach. On its territory there are clean swimming pools of varying depths, sun loungers are available for rent (this is included in the price of entry to the beach), and there are numerous cafes. Often entertainment events for adults and children are held here: beach parties, classes aquatic species sports, sand painting workshops. However, the beach is open only on hot days; before visiting it, you should check on social networks to see if it is open, or call.

Other street entertainment at VDNKh:

  • sports grounds for different types sports;
  • rental of boats and catamarans on the ponds;
  • outdoor ping pong area;
  • bicycles for rent;
  • skating rink in winter time and much more.

Fountains

There are many attractions in the form of fountains at VDNKh. They occupy a special place in the exhibition design. The most famous fountain is “Friendship of Peoples”. This is one of the largest fountains in the former USSR, opened in 1954. Its pool has an octagonal shape. The base of the fountain is made in the shape of a flower, which turns into a sheaf collected from hemp, wheat and sunflowers. Along the perimeter of the pool, closer to the sides, there are 16 sculptures of girls, symbolizing the republics of the USSR.

The fountain is located near the main pavilion. In the center there is a sculpture of a Russian girl, the location of the rest depends on the size of the republic’s population in the 50s: the smaller it is, the further the representative of the people is from the pavilion. Currently, the Friendship of Peoples fountain has been restored and equipped with lighting.

“The Stone Flower” was created based on the fairy tales of P. Bazhov (“Ural Tales”) in the same year. In the center of the pool there is a figure of a flower. The bowl is decorated with birds, fruits, ears of corn, and vases. The jets come directly from the flower itself, from bird beaks, from the sides of the fountain, and there are also groups of ring jets. In the evenings, colored lights turn on, the water rises 20 m and forms geometric rows. This is the world's first light and music fountain.

“Golden Ear” is located on the Upper Pond next to the boat station. The fountain is made in the shape of a large thick ear of wheat on a pedestal. Jets shoot out from nozzles in the grains. Also, the main sculpture is surrounded by small floating fountains. The central alley of the complex is decorated with 14 fountains in octagonal bowls.

A little history

VDNKh stands for “Exhibition of National Economic Achievements”, it is located on Prospect Mira Street.

Its predecessor was the All-Russian Agricultural and Handicraft-Industrial Exhibition, opened in 1923 on Vorobyovy Gory.

The construction of the exposition, which was originally called VSKhV (All-Union Agricultural Exhibition), took place in 1935-1939. Regional and republican pavilions were erected: Kursk or Tambov regions, Armenia, Georgia and others.

Armenia Pavilion, which houses an exhibition and tasting room

During the Second World War, all exhibitions were moved to Chelyabinsk, from where they returned only after its end. However, for the next three years the exhibition complex was not yet operational. Significant reconstruction of all existing buildings took place in 1950-1954. After the opening, the exhibition was closed only at the end of autumn and throughout the winter.

In 1958, they decided to combine several exhibitions (agricultural, construction and industrial) into one common one - VDNKh. Soon the nearest metro station was also renamed.

Since 1959, global reconstruction began, which affected many pavilions: some of them were renamed and rebuilt, some were moved to other buildings. Many have disappeared completely: for example, “Hunting”, “Ice Cream”, “Ural” and others were removed.

Cafe "Ice Cream" on the territory of the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy of the USSR (now the All-Russian Exhibition Center), built in 1954 by architect A.N. Belsky. Demolished 1986

Do you know that: in 1963, the main significance of this place was formulated - to demonstrate to vacationers the achievements of the national economy of the fraternal republics.

In the 90s, VDNH slowly lost its former strength: many pavilions were rented out, shops spontaneously sprang up everywhere, some exhibits were lost, and one of the Soviet symbols of the exhibition, the Tu-145 aircraft, was sold for scrap. In 1992, another renaming took place - this time at the All-Russian Exhibition Center.

However, today the exhibition complex is gradually being revived: many shops are closed, buildings are being reconstructed, children's park attractions are reopened.

New Moscow exhibitions appear regularly, events and events are held. All-Russian Exhibition Center ranks second in the list of the largest exhibition complexes in Russia and is among the 50 largest complexes in the world.

Historical walk

For history buffs, even a simple walk around the center will be an excellent excursion: many pavilions have still retained their appearance, and the reconstruction has benefited them. Just look at the entrances - Main, South and North.

Northern entrance. From 1939 to 1954 this arch was the main entrance to the All-Russian Agricultural Exhibition

Note: The northern entrance was built back in the 40s and was the main entrance of the All-Russian Agricultural Exhibition.

Also worth a look are the fountains:

But it’s very difficult to identify areas that everyone needs to see. All of them are built according to individual projects and have a unique appearance, reflecting their main essence.

For example, “Young Naturalists” has a transparent dome, “Culture” is decorated with carved ornaments and stained glass windows, and “Radio Engineering”, on the contrary, looks strict and futuristic.

Don’t forget about the rocket with the plane, as well as the statue “Worker and Collective Farm Woman”.

  3. Summer reading room: in the warm season, the All-Russian Exhibition Center offers books from the open library and couches to everyone.
