What does sv mean on the rzd train. Sitting car photo. Why do they prefer seated cars and who travels in them? Types of compartment cars

What is a SV wagon and what advantages does it have? This question is of interest to many passengers of Russian Railways, because each of us wants to travel in the most comfortable conditions.

What is SV on a Russian Railways train? According to the generally accepted wording, this is a sleeping car, consisting of nine one-, two- or three-seater compartments and designed to carry 18 passengers.

Its main characteristic feature is an increased level of comfort.

The first SV-cars appeared in 1867. Their inventor is the famous American engineer J. Pullman. It was he who first introduced the public to passenger seats that can turn into comfortable sun loungers.

Before that, all the seats on the trains were exceptionally seated and, moreover, quite rigid.

What is included in the SV carriage? In addition to more comfortable sleeping places, SV has several important advantages:

It is worth noting the interior decoration of such cars - it is distinguished by its solidity and pleasant appearance.

In branded trains of Russian Railways, the equipment of sleeping cars and the range of services provided may differ slightly.

Naturally, the increased convenience could not but affect the cost of the trip.... In 2019, it can be compared with the price of an air ticket in economy class (with equivalent routes).

Sleeping car classification

All aircrafts providing domestic passenger transportation are divided into several service classes. The latter determine not only the list of services provided, but also the general layout of the car.

To understand how this or that abbreviation stands, use this hint:

1B

Business Class

Seats in business class SV are provided by branded trains of the Russian passenger railway carrier CJSC TKS. Services include:
  • Air conditioning system;
  • Dispensing hygienic supplies - comb, paper and sanitary napkins, toothbrush and paste, cream and shoehorn;
  • Meals along the entire route (breakfast and dinner);
  • Fresh press;
  • Drinks - mineral water, tea, chocolate, coffee;
  • Linens;
  • Plasma TV;
  • Slippers;
  • Wi-Fi;
  • Safe (a magnetic card is used for access);
  • Individual power outlets for laptops and mobile devices.

Buying a ticket for a business class carriage assumes the redemption of the entire compartment as a whole (the cost of the ticket is determined from this calculation).

1E

Sleeping car of VIP class

Seats in CB class 1E are provided on high-speed trains "Strizh" on the routes "Moscow - Berlin" and "Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod".

The set of services includes:

  • Air conditioning system;
  • 24-hour security;
  • CCTV;
  • Travel kit of sanitary and hygienic products;
  • Dry closet;
  • Washbasin;
  • Plasma TV;
  • Individual sockets;
  • Safe with several keys;
  • Drinks and drinking water;
  • Nutrition;
  • Linens;
  • Slippers;
  • Shoe care products.

When buying a ticket in CB class 1E, the passenger must redeem all compartments.

1E

Analogue of class 1E or 1B with a reduced price

A ticket to such a carriage cannot be bought in advance. This "hot offer" from Russian Railways is thrown into the market only in one case - when on some route there are many empty compartments in a sleeping car.

Buying a ticket from a class 1E CB implies the purchase of only one passenger seat.

1U

Class 1B comfort level, but with a minimum set of additional services

The terms of service in 1U cars correspond to the first class, but all additional services (except for bed linen) are purchased separately by the passenger.

1L

Sleeping car without additional services

The easiest option among all sleeping cars. Provides a basic set of services (excluding dry closet). Everything else can be paid on the spot and at will.

RIC

An analogue of SV, found only in international trains. Differs in the presence of an upper and lower shelf. The comfort level corresponds to class 1B.

Another additional service that applies to all CB classes is the ability to transport containers with small pets.

SV vs compartment car

What is the difference between the SV carriage and the compartment?The main factor that distinguishes a closed compartment car of the II class from a sleeping one is not only the level of comfort, but also the number of passengers.

If you can still find a common language with one fellow traveler, then a noisy company of 3 people can turn a trip into an ordeal. In addition, the compartment cars do not have a button to call the conductor.

How does the SV carriage differ from the Lux?The latter, albeit a little, but still surpassed the CB classes in terms of comfort.

What is offered in the Suite:

Lux is a separate carriage with the highest comfort conditions and designed to carry a certain group of passengers (politicians, stars and other VIPs).

Outsiders are not allowed to enter such cars, so the appearance of random fellow travelers is completely excluded here.

Now you know what a SV carriage means and you will be able to choose the most comfortable conditions for yourself. In addition, recently, the management of Russian Railways has been actively practicing a system of discounts designed to increase the number of ticket sales.

For example, now when you buy tickets 2 months before departure, you can get a 40% discount.

There are many ways to travel by train: in a luxurious setting and in a Spartan setting. It depends, firstly, on the category of the car, and secondly, on the class of service in it. What does our railway offer passengers?

Luxury carriages - soft VIP (M)

Traveling in the VIP version is very comfortable, because there are wide coupes - 1.5-2 times wider than usual. Each of them has a sofa that can be transformed into two shelves - an upper one with a width of 90 cm and a lower one with a width of 120 cm. There is also a folding table with an armchair, a personal air conditioner and an individual bathroom, where not only a vacuum toilet and washbasin are located, but also a shower. In addition to bed linen, you will be provided with a sanitary kit, newspapers, drinks and food.

There are different number of compartments in a carriage: in 1A - 4 (plus a bar), in 1I - 5, in 1M - 6. You can only buy a compartment as a whole, even if the passenger is traveling alone. A child under the age of 10 is allowed free of charge.

SV (L) cars

Travelers are accommodated in double compartments, of which there can be from 8 to 10. In class 1L, passengers are provided only with bed linen, in 1B (business class), 1U, 1E - also food, sanitary and hygienic sets, and newspapers. Class 1E is distinguished by the presence in each compartment of bathrooms with a vacuum toilet and shower. The rest of the dry closets are located two per carriage. Air conditioning in CB is only general.

Compartment cars (K)

There are 8 or 10 four-seater compartments, each with two upper and two lower shelves, as well as a table, a mirror and reading lamps. In class 2E, the same services are offered as in business class, the carriage must be equipped with air conditioning.

In 2U, 2L, 2K, passengers are provided with linen, in the first version they are also given cold snacks. As for air conditioning, it will definitely be 2L, but in the rest it is not guaranteed.

You can ride in a compartment without fellow travelers, having bought all four seats for yourself. How to do this correctly, we explained in one of the previously posted articles.

Platzkart cars (P)

Here there are 52-54 places for lying, they are located six in a "compartment" - four shelves are installed, as in a compartment, and two more shelves are placed across the passage from them (the so-called side ones). In 3E, there is certainly an air conditioner, in 3D and 3U such equipment may or may not be available. No other services are provided.

Wagons with seating (C)

The cheapest option is a shared carriage. This is the same reserved seat, but on the lower shelves there are three seated passengers. May be without indication of seating positions (2B) and with indication of (3O). Services are not provided here, air conditioning and dry closet are very rare.

A comfortable offer for short (5-7 hours) trips - cars with separate seats, which can be hard or soft. According to the service provided, they are divided into types:

  • 1Р, 1В - with air conditioner, dry closet, blankets, sanitary and hygienic kits, food;
  • 2P - the same as in the previous case, but without a blanket and food;
  • 2C - with air conditioner and dry closet;
  • 2B, 2E - with air conditioner;
  • 3Ж, 3С - air conditioner and dry closet are optional.

You can find out what services to expect on your trip from your train ticket. In it, in the first line after the car number, there is the letter designation of its category (M, L, K, P, C), and in the second line, after the codes of the departure-arrival stations, the designation of the service class is printed.

I have always wondered why some people prefer seated cars, because the difference in price between a reserved seat and a seated car is small? Why travel for 21 hours sitting when you can go in a reserved seat carriage for almost the same price? I decided to do a little research, take a ride in such a car and see everything myself.

Let's take the simplest Ural train "Yekaterinburg-Priobye". This is the most popular train. Distance 1041 km, you can drive either 18 hours 20 minutes, or 21 hours 27 minutes. According to the conductor of the sitting carriage, most of them go to the very Ob region, you can go crazy! Sitting for almost a day!

Take the price difference. In a reserved seat, the trip would have cost 1,067 rubles, and in a seated carriage, 818 rubles. The difference is only 249 rubles !! Is it worth the difference that you will sleep sitting for 18-21 hours and will not be able to eat normally?

We sit on the Yekaterinburg-Priob'e train.

Tambour train ..

Titanium with retro teapot ...

And here is the carriage itself. The seats are located like on an airplane, but this is far from an airplane ...

There are a couple of tables in the middle of the car. Someone is lucky, you can eat with him or put a glass of tea. On the other side, the tables are arranged so that you sit opposite each other. And I would have to sit and look at someone for several hours.

Let's look at the seated carriage contingent. A third of the car was occupied by non-Russian men.

A third of the grandmother. Probably, the difference of 249 rubles is significant for pensioners.

A third of the passengers are just guys and men. I did not see a single Russian girl in the carriage.

One mother and a child were traveling in the carriage. According to her, they drove all the way to the Ob River !! Mom put the girl to sleep in two places, and she laid her head on the table and slept like that .. It seems to me that it is too much to go with a small child in a sitting carriage for almost a day. Of course, we can assume that there were no tickets, and they bought a seating, but there were tickets. And the lower shelves in the reserved seat were also! Moreover, a child under 5 years old can travel for free. Although all sorts of situations in life, of course.

If you travel with a child for short distances up to 2-3 hours, then such a car is more convenient than an electric train because it has a toilet.

The toilet is the most basic, there is even toilet paper and an air freshener.

It turns out that all seated cars are divided into 3 classes. We went in the best 1st class! Stunned!
In the first class, there are two seats on each side.

The second class has three seats.

And in the third grade there are such benches, very narrow and uncomfortable.

For a long time I have not seen such faucets with water. Does anyone else drink from them? What is the quality of the water there?

The car is made at Wagonmash.

In general, we rode in such a car for an hour, and got off in the nearest town. It turned out to be weak for me to ride 21 hours in such a carriage while sitting! Even for your favorite blog. Definitely, I would rather choose a reserved seat or compartment carriage if I go somewhere. Although there was nothing stinking in the sitting carriage, and there were no drunks, it was still the most inconvenient option on the train. Have you traveled in sit-down carriages? Would you go somewhere in such a carriage?

Anyone who has ever thought about traveling by train could not help but find out about the SV train, especially if he wanted to make his trip special. After all, this class has long been associated with high-level comfort and service. It is no secret that this method of travel is not cheap, and in order to decide to buy a ticket, you need to have a sufficient amount of knowledge about it. And if there is a need for them, then this article will tell you about the features of such cars and answer the main question: "What is this - a SV train?"

Types of SV cars

The decoding of the abbreviation SV is simple - a sleeping car. Carriages of this class are not in vain considered one of the most comfortable at the moment. Their layout allows travel in much more comfortable conditions than in simple compartment cars. How does the coupe differ from the SV? They differ from them in two-seater coupes instead of four-seater. Today there are four layouts of compartments in such cars.

The main division is based on the number of compartments: there can be 8 or 9. Accordingly, the first are designed to carry 16 passengers, the second - 18. The location of the seats can be different, but in any case, the train will only have double compartments.

Sleeping car compartment

Cars with 8 compartments are of two modifications. In the first, berths are located one above the other. Additionally, there is a folding table, a wardrobe and an armchair. The main difference is the washbasin combined with the adjacent compartment, which has a shower. There are two toilets, which are located at different ends of the carriage, although this is not a feature of a particular layout. Another type offers compartments in which berths are side by side, so a separate shower had to be sacrificed. But there is a common one.

Carriages with 9 compartments are also divided into two types. In the first one there are berths opposite each other, in the second one above each other. And if the first combination does not offer any more conveniences, the second has a separate washbasin for each compartment. There is no shower in such cars, the toilets are located similarly to 8 compartment cars.

In any case, such schemes are more convenient for passengers. Fewer seats reduce the load on toilets and there are never queues. Conductors can devote enough time to any passenger. The noise level is much lower.

Schemes of carriages of SV Russian Railways

In order for the car to meet the expectations of the passenger, he must first know its layout. The presence of a shower allows you to make long journeys without sacrificing convenience. Therefore, the choice must be taken very carefully.

Service classes

If everything is relatively clear with the types of cars, then the classes of service in SV trains can confuse anyone, because they are not easy to decipher. They differ not only in the classes themselves, but also in the carriers to which the trains belong. The manufacturer plays an important role.

FPK

The carrier Federal Passenger Company JSC offers the following service classes:

  • 1B and 1E. Maximum service. A car of this class is always equipped with air conditioning and a dry closet. This means you can forget about the sanitary zones. You will be offered a hygiene kit, bed linen and the latest newspapers. The ticket price includes meals and drinks upon request of the passenger. The difference between B and E is that in the first case one person buys both places. But in this case, he has the right to carry a pet with him.
  • 1T. The car equipment corresponds to the previous class. The difference lies in the not so wide list of additional services.
  • 1U. Stripped down version 1B. A car with air conditioning and a dry closet awaits the passenger. He will be given bed linen. Since the entire compartment has been purchased, it is possible to transport a pet.
  • 1L. One of the budget options. Such wagons may not have a dry closet. Otherwise, the conditions correspond to class 1U.
  • 1D (tourist). In addition to the absence of a dry closet, there is no possibility to transport animals.

These classes will be served by 9 compartment cars, which were mentioned earlier. For branded trains, 8-seater variants are mainly used. This means that the classes of service there offer a slightly different range of services. For example, consider the classification of the Strizh train:

  • 1E. In addition to the list of services from the carriage with compartment 9, the passenger will be offered either a separate washbasin and shower, or a shared shower. A TV will hang in the compartment, and it will be possible to connect to Wi-Fi.
  • 1E. Full redemption of the compartment is required, no matter by one or two passengers. You can carry your pet. The rest is similar to the previous class.
  • 1T. The difference lies in the absence of additional services.

All three classes include meals, hygiene kits, and bedding.

We should also mention the RIC cars. These cars are manufactured in Tver in cooperation with Siemens AG. They are used on international routes. At the moment, they are found in 3 types. Previously, they had two and three-seat layout. In the latter, berths were located one above the other.

RIC carriage

Nowadays, it is difficult to find such cars, because they are replaced by cars with a standard 4-seater scheme. Therefore, only two-seater variants act as SV cars. They are equipped with a shared shower, keyless access to the compartment (as in some hotels - with a plastic card) and an electronic display with basic information.

TCS

Let's go to the carrier "TKS"

Taking into account modern technologies and services, it is safe to say that the passenger will spend his trip without noticing any restrictions and inconveniences.
