Hanioti is a resort village located on the Kassandra Peninsula about 100 km from Thessaloniki. In August there is a full house - during the day the beach is jammed to the eyeballs, and in the evening crowds of vacationers go out into the city.

In the village of Chaniotis, Greece // evguuu.livejournal.com

We start the review from the beach.

It is rather narrow, small pebbles are very hot in the sun. The number of cigarette butts per square meter can amaze even the regulars of domestic resorts. The entrance to the water is complicated in some places by the presence of large stones overgrown with algae. Sea urchins can come across at the bottom, so it’s best to look under your feet or use rubber slippers. A pair of sun loungers and a sun umbrella are offered for 6-7 euros for the whole day. Water bike rental - 10 Euro per hour. Merchants wandering around the beach offering snacks, pies and corn, massages or buying fake sun glasses and some other trinkets. But all these shortcomings are compensated by the presence of a clean, warm and calm sea.

The embankment is unremarkable and practically not equipped - just a pedestrian road along the beach.

The bed of the river dried up in summer is used as a highway.

Perhaps the most beautiful house in Hanioti.

// evguuu.livejournal.com

The central square is empty during the day - siesta time, temperature under 40 degrees Celsius in the shade.

// evguuu.livejournal.com

In the evening - a completely different matter. Everyone goes on the promenade to the central streets of the village.

There is nothing to do here during the day.

Many shops open only in the evening.

We rise upward, moving away from the sea towards the main road passing through the entire peninsula.

Here is the largest supermarket in the village.

Chanioti or Chanioti is a famous tourist village in Greece, located on the first finger of the Halkidiki peninsula. You can get to Kassandra from the northern capital of the country - the city of Thessaloniki in 60 minutes. Also a very beautiful city.

A paradise place is intoxicating with its unique landscapes, rich flora and crystal clear sea. In the summer season, Chanioti from a provincial Greek province is transformed into a busy resort for both naughty students and representatives of the mature generation. Moreover, there are so many Greek taverns, bars, restaurants, clubs that every tourist will find a suitable entertainment venue for himself.

Often at the end of summer in Chaniotis, one can witness the traditional folk festival, which attracts Greek creative groups from all over the Balkans. If you are lucky to attend such an event, your vacation will sparkle with new colors, hitherto unknown to you.

In general, rest in Halkidiki is rather fussy, calm, therefore the resort is very popular among couples with children. In fairness, we note that for active youth in Chanioti there is plenty of entertainment. Take at least sea activities, horseback riding, express excursions in the surroundings on rental motorcycles or cars.

Attractions Hanioti

The Greek resort on the famous "trident" attracts tourists with its unique nature, sea, numerous historical monuments, Hellenic culture, architecture. Hanioti promises a comprehensive holiday with exciting excursions and a first-class holiday by the sea. In transport accessibility is the ancient village of Afitos with preserved monuments of the rich history of Halkidiki.

And three kilometers from the city is the town of Kallithea, known to the world for the ruins of the temple of Zeus, as well as the sanctuaries of Nymph and Dionysius. Today, the village is famous throughout Greece for free morals and cosmopolitanism.

In the village of Kalandra near Chaniotis, tourists are introduced to the temple of Poseidon and the ancient burials in Polychrono.

In general, the location of the resort on one of the teeth of Poseidon is unique. Many bays of natural origin with pristine beaches, olive and pine groves, bananas, tangerines - all within walking distance from the central regions of Chanioti. For example, 10 km from the city beach is the famous tangerine alley, fragrant all year round. It leads to a square with a Greek-style fountain, which gives start to other alleys with cafes, bars, souvenir shops.

For connoisseurs of Christian sacraments, guides offer to get acquainted with the places of Orthodox pilgrimages. One of the attractions of the region - Meteora, which is a whole town in which hermits atone for the sins of people, is included in the Top 20 recommended by UNESCO to visit. A cruise trip to St. Athos, on which the Orthodox state of the monks is located, will give indelible emotions. At a distance of 500 meters, 8 out of 20 monasteries are allowed to contemplate.

The story of Hanioti

Historical scholars believe that the ancient Greek polis of Ega (Aegi) was previously located in this area. During archaeological expeditions, evidence was found of the existence of the ancient city. In addition, historians have proven that the center of Orthodox monasticism has existed here for many centuries, despite the conquest of Greece by the Ottoman Empire.

The first settlement in recent history arose in 1935. At this time, local residents decided to leave their homes after a devastating earthquake, descending closer to the sea coast.

From later history, we highlight the fact that the peninsula was massively populated in the 10th century BC. The first historical references to Halkidiki can be found in the writings of Herodotus, the father of history. The great historian described the colonies of people on the "trident of Poseidon" in the era of the Persian Wars.

Entertainment, shopping and other joys of a tourist

The Halkidiki Peninsula with its rich infrastructure and numerous bars, restaurants and enchanting shows in clubs is ideal for families and groups. In countless taverns you will be served dishes performed by the best Greek chefs, as well as local wine. For lovers of an active lifestyle, sports grounds are equipped: basketball, volleyball, soccer fields, lawns for golf.

About 95% of the beaches in the Hanioti area have a blue flag - a sign of the highest European standard of cleanliness. Having bathed on numerous beaches, you can safely go for a walk through the ancient surroundings of the town. All parks and alleys are equipped with signs.

In late May, Hanioti hosts traditional music festivals. As a rule, a holiday is held on May 21, but changes are likely. Therefore, we recommend that you be interested in such issues in advance. And at the end of summer, an international folklore festival takes place, where creative groups from the Mediterranean countries come.

As for shopping, thousands of shopaholics come to Northern Greece for it. The fact is that a good half of goods on store shelves are not taxed. Based on this, the cost of some products is much lower than in Russia, the USA, Europe. Each point of sale serves MasterCard and Visa cards. In crowded places you can find ATMs, post offices. Russians come to Greece to effectively combine a beach holiday with shopping. Just look at the statistics of the cult fur tour.

We rested in Greece from July 31 to August 14 for the first time (4 adults and 1 child of two years). TO - “Vilar”, airline - “Yamal”, tour - Hanioti (15 days, 14 nights).
ABOUT YAMAL AIRLINE
Departure from Roshchino Airport (Tyumen) took place without delay. The flight was daily, duration - approximately 5 hours. The plane was in good condition, the stewards attentive. We got tickets near the emergency exit, where, according to the rules of air travel, children are not allowed. So we were transferred without problems to another row. Plaids were given out in the salon, lunch consisted of three dishes to choose from (food was fresh, non-alcoholic drinks).
The return flight from the airport "Macedonia" (Thessaloniki) was delayed by about an hour. Stewards attributed the delay to bureaucratic red tape at Thessaloniki Airport. The plane was in order, the stewards were adequate, the plaids were given out, the food was fresh (3 dishes to choose from, among the drinks were offered Greek wines - white and red, for some reason there was no tomato juice).
ABOUT VILLAR TOUR OPERATOR
We purchased vouchers 10 days before departure. After a week, visas were ready. Before departure at the airport at the “Vilar” counter, we received a daddy with documents. Upon leaving the airport, Thessaloniki, we were met by a company representative, escorted to the Vilara counter, where we were given booklets describing excursions (prices were not shown), and they told us which bus to board. While we were driving to the hotel, the accompanying guide Natasha told us a little about Greece, about excursions, and also reported the opening hours of the hotel guide (daily from 9 to 12 and from 18 to 21). Near the hotel we were met by the hotel guide Katerina. She showed us where the reception is located, and hid in an unknown direction, without even explaining to us where the dining room is, how to get to the beach, when and where the meeting will take place. In the evening, we still found Katerina. She refused to provide a printout with prices for excursions and more detailed information, said: "Something will interest you - ask." Very often her words diverged from the information indicated in the booklets issued or told by Natasha. At the same time, Katerina said that she should not listen to Natasha (she invented everything), and the booklets were out of date. She was reluctant, with obvious annoyance, often distorting information about questions not related to the tours she sold. In the evening the day before departure, I gave out incorrect information about the time and place of departure. On the morning of departure, she didn’t even appear. A representative of the company that traveled with us to the airport rode with us on the bus and informed which check-in desks would be held.
ABOUT HOTEL HERMES (CHANIOTI)
This hotel went to us according to the Fortune system. Upon arrival we were met by a representative of the hotel El. It turned out that she was the only employee of the hotel (and the administrator, and the maid, and the security guard, and everything else). The hotel consists of one 3-storey building (25 standard rooms), no elevator. Settled quickly. We got numbers 16 (2-seater) and 17 (3-seater for a couple with a child) on the 3rd floor. Suitcases had to be dragged to the 3rd floor along a narrow spiral staircase on their own. The hotel is located in the central square of Hanioti, close to shops, taverns, cafes with live music, which close after 2-3 am. The soundproofing in the rooms is poor, so it is very noisy at night. After two sleepless nights, a couple with a child asked to change their room to a room in another hotel with a surcharge. They said that this is impossible. They had to fully pay 12 nights in another hotel (this is 600 euros).
The double room has 2 narrow beds, a wardrobe with hangers, 1 bedside table, a console, an armchair, a coffee table, a mirror, a kitchenette (2 rings, a sink, an extractor hood, a mini fridge, dishes, cutlery) combined with / y (shower behind the curtain), TV with one Russian channel (First), air conditioning, large balcony (plastic table and 2 armchairs). In the c / a there is no hood, or any ventilation. The toilet drain is very noisy, but ineffective. There was a hole in the floor, closed by a grate, through which standing water was visible, from which there was an unpleasant odor. The pressure of hot and cold water in the shower is not regulated (more precisely, it changes unexpectedly by itself), so the temperature is always unpredictable. The rooms do not have a hairdryer and shower accessories (not even soap). The air conditioning is located so that it blows on the bed. During your absence, air conditioning is not allowed. We tried to turn it on, but when we returned, we found that the air conditioning was turned off and the balcony door was wide open, so the room was in the same heat as it was on the street. Change of bed linen and towels - 1 time in 5 days, garbage removal - every other day, room cleaning (Elya washed the sink and made the bed) - 2 times a week, never washed the floor. The hotel has a non-working bar (Eli lounge). There is also a paid safe (1 euro per day) - very small (the netbook does not fit). The hotel does not have parking, dry cleaning, breakfast room or watching TV, internet, phone, private beach (as stated on the sites). Meals (if included in the price) are organized in the dining room of the Hanioti GrandOtel (approximately 200 meters down the street). The hotel guide Katerina sits in the same hotel, there is free wi-fi (it is poorly caught, especially in the evening, not all pages open, speed is low), there is also a beach that is designed for vacationers of five hotels (Hermes, Grand Hotel, Grand Victoria, Cleopatra, Macedonia Sky), which are part of the same network. There are many vacationers, so sun loungers are often not enough. In the best case, for 4.5 people we managed to take 3 sunbeds. The beach worked from 7 to 19. After 19, mattresses were removed from sunbeds, folded umbrellas, sun loungers dragged. Towels were issued on bail (20 euros for 1 pc.) Once for the entire stay. They could be changed every other day on the beach (only up to 12). Loungers for hotel guests - 3 euros for 1 sunbed (if "all inclusive", then free of charge). Sundries and massage therapists ply the beach (an average of 15 euros per 15 minutes of massage). The beach is coarse sand, the bottom of the sea is first small pebbles, then large stones. The sea is clean, very salty. From living creatures - a variety of fish (some tourists even fished right next to the swimmers), small crabs, sea urchins (in the crevices of large stones), once we saw a small octopus under the stone. There were no jellyfish.
Entertainment was also organized at the Hanioti GrandOtel: on Mondays - karaoke, on Wednesdays - live music, on Saturdays - Greek evening (20 euros per person). Another feature: even the all-inclusive system, the hotel does not provide lunch boxes (breakfast cereals). If you have an early departure for an excursion, you can order the so-called early breakfast: you need to inform the reception of your departure day, by this time you will have a plate prepared with something at the discretion of the cook. It is forbidden to take anything out of the dining room. Therefore, if you check out at 4 in the morning, then you will either have breakfast in the dining room at 3:30 at night or have breakfast during the stop at your own expense. In general, the nutrition at Hanioti GrandOtel is normal. Meat (pork) every day, fresh vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers), fruits (pears, grapes, plums, nectarines, watermelons, melons) and ice cream for dinner.
ABOUT EXCURSIONS FROM CHANIOTI
Hanioti is a very small village located on the southeast coast of the Kassandra Peninsula (1.5-2 hours to Thessaloniki, 4.5-5 hours to Meteora, 8-9 hours to Athens). There I found only 3 travel agencies organizing excursions: “Bros Travel” (located in the building of the Hermes hotel, entrance from the street), “Vilar” (ask the hotel guide Katerina) and “Mouzenidis Travel” (the office is located near the hotel - up the street, the first right, about 20 meters to the right you will see a large vertical sign). Moreover, TF “Bros Travel” organizes trips no further than the city of Thessaloniki (with the exception of Meteor). For example, several excursions with prices:
“Meteora” (with a visit to 1 monastery): “Bros Travel” - 45 euros, “Vilar” - 65 euros, “Mouzenidis Travel” - 70 euros;
Thessaloniki (survey): Bros Travel - 28 euros, Vilar - 40 euros, Mouzenidis Travel - 45 euros;
Athens (night trip): Bros Travel - no, Vilar - 100 euros, Mouzenidis Travel - 100 euros;
Meteora + Athens (2 days): Bros Travel - no, Vilar - 170 euros, Mouzenidis Travel - 200 euros;
Vergina + Olympus + Dion: Bros Travel - no, Vilar - 50 euros, Mouzenidis Travel - 55 euros;
Meteora + Corfu Island (2 days): “Bros Travel” - no, “Vilar” - no, “Mouzenidis Travel” - 180 euros;
“Vergina + Olympus + Thermopylae + Delphi” (2 days): “Bros Travel” - no, “Vilar” - no, “Mouzenidis Travel” - 150 euros.
Differences in cost are due to differences in programs, conditions (for example, during a 2-day excursion at Mouzenidis Travel, dinner is included in the price, but at Vilar not) and subjective reasons.
In addition to this you will have to pay lunch (from 8 euros + drinks) and entrance fees (Dion - 4 euros, Vergina - 8 euros, Acropolis of Athens - 12 euros, Acropolis Museum - 5 euros, Meteora - 2 euros, Achilleion on Corfu island - 7 euros, The White Tower in Thessaloniki - 3 euros, the Archaeological Museum in Thessaloniki - 6 euros, the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki - 6 euros, a museum + archaeological site in Delphi - 9 euros).
As a result, we decided to visit Thessaloniki and Meteora on our own. We rented a car at the Status company (next to the Mouzenidis Travel agency). Toyota Yaris cost us 145 euros for 3 days, in addition we spent 112 euros for gasoline, 10 euros for travel on toll roads (from 1.5 to 3 euros for travel on one road, there may be several along the way) and 6 euros for 4 hours of parking in Thessaloniki (3 euros for the first hour, each subsequent - 1 euro). They took a navigator from Tyumen with them, so they reached both Thessaloniki and Meteora without any problems (they strained there with pointers, so we would hardly have arrived without a navigator).
In addition, I went on excursions “Athens” (night trip) and “Vergina + Olympus + Thermopyla + Delphi” (2 days) from the travel agency “Mouzenidis Travel” - only this company carries it to Delphi, and “ Vilara "the price is the same, but at Mouzenidis Travel I liked the program more. Maybe somehow I will write reviews on these excursions.
GENERAL IMPRESSIONS
August is the hottest month in Greece, and even the "high" season. Therefore, I would not recommend this month for a vacation in Greece, especially involving visits to excursions - huge crowds of people everywhere, prices are too high for everything, and climb uphill (77% of Greece’s territory occupies mountains, so wherever you go - always uphill) at a temperature +44 in the shade is still a pleasure. Hanioti village is suitable only for a beach holiday. On a trip to go very far, long and expensive. In addition, the village has bad water. The one that was given in the dining room is impossible to drink. Then we got water from the tap and boiled in a saucepan - the taste is the same, also the residue at the bottom is the thickness of a finger. I was in other parts of Greece - there is normal water. So get ready to buy bottled water at your own expense. There will be no language problems in Greece - almost everyone speaks Russian there (in hotels, shops, cafes, parking lots). Minimal English doesn’t hurt (it was useful when visiting museums and in the Meteora monastery, which we visited on our own). When communicating with the Greeks, be restrained - they are very touchy. Moreover, it is customary for them to turn to any interlocutor for “you”, speak loudly, actively gesticulate, and not be shy in expressions. For example, when I got on a sightseeing bus, it turned out that I had taken someone else's place, since all seats in the bus were reserved. I asked the driver what place was reserved for me. He (Euripides, Greek by nationality) replied that No. 30. I said that at the end of the bus I was rocking. His answer discouraged me: “Your problems. If you don’t like it, come out. ” A few hours later he apologized at the bus stop, but his mood was already spoiled. And such a case was not the only one. When I told one Greek woman that I didn’t drink alcohol, she asked where I was from, and then I noticed: “I knew that there were people who didn’t drink alcohol, but I didn’t know that there were such Russians.” In general, the impression was that the Greeks had a low opinion of Russians, and generally did not really like tourists. When I asked the hotel guide why everything is expensive in Greece and the service is not of the best quality, she replied that Greece is consistently in high demand among tourists, so they will always go there regardless of the level of prices and service. The beaches in Chanioti are quite clean, the sea is warm, transparent, for snorkelers - a variety of animals. I would recommend the Hermes Hotel to young, unpretentious tourists without children who are ready to hang out every night for up to 2-3 hours. Although for this money (45-50 euros per day per room) you can find a hotel and better. And take a lot of money with you, since even having purchased an all-inclusive package, you will have to pay separately for a lot. And another warning for women: very dry air (at least in August) and a very salty sea, so the skin dries shamelessly. Take a moisturizing lotion with you or buy on the spot (there is a wide variety of products based on olive oil).
