You can get from Naples by train, bus and taxi. Train tickets can be bought in advance on the Trenitalia website. Travel time is about 50 minutes. Today, the cost of tickets from Naples to Salerno: 4.30 euros *. Bus tickets are sold at ticket offices located on the territory of bus parking. A bus ticket to Salerno can also be bought on the trenitalia website.

On a note.  When buying a train ticket on the Napoli-Salerno route, a bus ticket will also be offered. The bus traveling from Naples to Salerno is 45 minutes, ticket price is 4.30 euros *.

From rome

Take the train to Salerno 2 hours 4 minutes. Ticket price 23 € * - 42 € *. First you need to take the Roma Termini station. Then change at Napoli Centrale station. The final station is the Salerno stop. By bus, travel time 4 h. 22 min. Ticket price approximately 12 € * - 20 € *.

The old center of Salerno is crossed by an ancient street - Via Dei Mercanti or as it is called "Merchants Street". Named so because in the Middle Ages it served as a center of commerce. Now the street continues in the center of Salerno avenue called Vittorio Emanuele.

In Piazza Alfano I, you will find the Cathedral of San Matteo (Cattedrale di Salerno), built in 1076-1085. The cathedral was erected in honor of St. Matthew, its relics from 954 are stored in the crypt under the main altar of the cathedral. The Romanesque portal with lions, the Islamic-style colonnade and the Baroque crypt are surprisingly harmoniously combined in this architectural masterpiece.

In the heart of the medieval city of Salerno, in a small building there is a whole collection of paintings that dates back to the Renaissance and up to the first half of the 19th century. The central place in the gallery is occupied by paintings by the South Italian artist Andrea Sabatini, who, together with Raphael, worked on the design of the Vatican halls. Also, tourists should pay attention to the canvases of Giovanni Battista Caracciolo and Francesco Solimena.

In addition to the works of well-known artists, the art gallery contains works by contemporary Italian authors: Pasquale Avallone, Luigi Paolillo, Antonio Ferrigno and Luca Albino. There is also a small collection of works by foreign painters.

In ancient times, the city of Salerno was famous for the rapid development of medicine. That is why here you can find a huge number of medicinal plants. The nearest airport is Salerno - Capodichino. It is an international airport, and it receives flights from Russia, including direct flights. From Kapodichino to Salerno about 60 km. It is convenient to overcome this distance on a bus that departs directly from the airport, a ticket costs 8 euros. It’s even more comfortable to take a taxi, but then you have to pay from 70 euros. You may prefer this option:

• to get to Naples by bus (6 km, from 2 euros),
• transfer by train to Salerno (40 min, from 3 euros).

So you will pay even less than a ticket for a direct bus Kapodichino - Salerno, but making transfers with luggage is not too convenient. However, this option makes sense if you want to explore - a large, beautiful and noisy Italian city. Finally, you can rent a car directly at the airport to not only get to Salerno, but also explore its surroundings.

Should I go to Salerno in low season? This town, although it has its own attractions, is more suitable for a beach holiday. Out of season, you can go here only if you find pleasant walks by the cold sea. In winter, it is better to relax in Italy in another place, and in Salerno go on a day trip.

What to do in Salerno?

The beaches of Salerno stretch for 10 km along the city. Sunbathing and sea bathing is the main activity of tourists resting here. Salerno has municipal beaches, admission is free, you can bring your own rug and sunbathe on it. If you want, rent a sunbed and parasol.
