Complexes and memorials

The first mention of this settlement dates back to 1586, which makes him the elder brother of St. Petersburg. It is located 534 kilometers from Moscow, located between the banks of the Don and Voronezh rivers.

It is located on the left and right banks of the Voronezh River, 8.5 km from its confluence, 515 km south-southeast of Moscow

In the heart of the city, one of the largest Russian reservoirs is organized, which divides the capital of the Black Earth region into two halves - the Right and Left Banks.

It is worth noting: Voronezh bears the title of a city of military glory, since there were fierce battles with the Germans from 1942 to 1943. Local residents defended their small homeland, capturing many fascist soldiers, depriving the enemy of forces for a long time.

That is why many travelers are interested in war memorials and memorial sites that can be found in literally every area - mass graves, a monument dedicated to the unknown soldier, a memorial to the fallen soldiers on Sovetskaya Square and many others.

The most popular sculptures created in the last decade:

  • Monument to the front-line postman (Prospect Revolution St.).

The monument was erected near the Main Post Office and symbolizes the dangerous and necessary work that simple Voronezh residents did. Poets and songs are rarely dedicated to postmen, but only a short letter from home can often lift the spirits and mood of soldiers on the front lines.

Guided by this opinion, activists from the local population decided to perpetuate the work of front-line postmen in sculpture, and corporal Ivan Leontiev, a freight forwarder who served in the 333rd Regiment of the Red Banner Rifle Division during the war years, became its prototype;

  • Monument to the paratroopers (near Lizyukova St. and the 60th Army, on the site near the Academy of Arts).

The city bears another honorary title - the homeland of the Airborne Forces, since it was in it, on the territory of today's Komintern district, that for the first time in world history, landing was carried out. The building, dedicated to this truly great event, is an open parachute, under the dome of which stands the newly-landed paratrooper and a schoolboy holding a model airplane.

Traditionally, on August 2, on the day of the Airborne Forces, solemn events are held for everyone involved in this type of military service. By the way, there is a cozy square nearby, and a little distance away - free children's attractions, so it's interesting for the whole family to come here;

  • Monument "Seller and buyer" (St. Vladimir Nevsky, 48).

An unusual monument is installed on the territory of the small market "Cathedral". The sculpture, consisting of the figures of a seller of mirrors and two customers in traditional costumes, symbolizes market relations in which bargaining is not only necessary, but also pleasant.

The structure is not typical, of which there are many, so every traveler should see it. And also a good tradition is connected with it - any passerby can rub a mirror in the hands of the seller, so that there will be much more happiness in life;

  • Monument to a kitten from the street Lizyukova.

The next unusual pedestal is dedicated to the legendary cartoon hero and is installed, of course, on that same Lizyukova street. The sculpture depicts a tree on which a kitten and a crow sit.

In order to return here again, the visitors rub the open paw of the cat and, of course, take pictures next to it;

  • Monument to White Beam Black Ear (50 Revolution Ave.).

The tragic fate of the dog from the novel of the same name by the Voronezh writer Gabriel Troepolsky, of course, leaves no one indifferent, therefore the sculpture dedicated to Bim, installed next to the Puppet Theater, is very popular among tourists.

  • Monument to Samuel Marshak (St. Karl Marx, 72).

This is one of the newest sculptures.

The writer, who loved children incredibly and devoted almost all his work to them, is depicted in great detail - he has a simple coat with a massive collar, kindness and love in his eyes, and a little girl next to him, as if asking Samuel Yakovlevich to tell some more interesting stories;

Do you know that: Today, Marshak, immortalized in stone, does not exist anywhere else, so it is definitely worth seeing!

  • Monument to Vladimir Vysotsky (K. Marx St., in the park next to the Institute of Physical Education).

The monument depicting Vladimir Semenovich with a guitar sitting on a chair is a tribute to the memory of his beloved singer and actor from Voronezh. It is made in the same style as the sculpture in Moscow on Strastnoy Boulevard, but is larger in size.

In the evenings in the summer season, musicians gather here and perform favorite songs of the Soviet bard, read his poems;

  • Monument to the Healing Chair (square next to the regional government building, Lenin Square).

This can be said the most original monument of the area, which has no analogues in the world. The bronze sculpture, made according to the sketches of Alexander Nozhkin, may well be called a work of modern art.

  • Model of the ship "Mercury" (reservoir area at the Vogresovsky bridge).

"Mercury" is the first ship-barcalone, launched from the Ramona shipyard in 1698. Most likely, you have not seen such a monument: the fact is that the model of "Mercury" is almost impossible to see from the coast, since it is installed on stilts right in the water!

Unfortunately, the ship will soon be dismantled due to its deplorable state, but for now you can come closer to it and take a closer look by renting a boat or a boat, or during a sea excursion on a ship that leaves every day from Admiralteyskaya embankment;

  • Ship Museum "Goto Predestination" (Admiralteyskaya embankment).

Visit the first ship, created by decree of Peter the Great by local craftsmen, you will not be difficult - just recently launched an exact copy of the ship is leaving the parking lot on Admiralteyskaya embankment.

An excursion should be pre-booked.

Orthodox sights of the capital of Chernozemye

We remind you that we are considering a million-plus city, therefore there are a huge number of churches and temples in which relics that are important for Orthodox Christians are stored. Here are just a few of the religious attractions to visit:

  • Admiralty Square and the Assumption Church.

Near the parking lot of the ship "Goto Predestination" on the Admiralty Square stands the Assumption Admiralty Church. This is the oldest of the temples preserved on the territory of the settlement - it was built in the 17th century.

The architectural component of the building is interesting, since it is made in the spirit of classicism, as well as the interior decoration;

Take into account: It is in the Assumption Admiralty Church that the relics of saints are most often brought. So, in the last few years, believers could come here to bow to the relics of the Matrona of Moscow.

  • St. Nicholas Church (Taranchenko St., 19A).

Another ancient architectural structure is the St. Nicholas Church. It is an example of Russian baroque and was built in the 18th century.

The church is located in the central area, however, away from noisy roads, therefore, both nearby and inside, it is always quiet. The pearl of this place can be called a particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which parishioners can bow to;

  • Alekseevo-Akatov Convent (st. Emancipation of labor, 1B).

The incredible architectural solution of the monastery is far from the only reason why it is worth visiting. This is one of the historical buildings, since it was laid back in 1620.

It is better to come to church outside the service, when it is especially quiet here and there is the opportunity to walk around the building, admire the refined landscape design;

  • Blagoveshchensky cathedral (Revolution Avenue, 18A).

This church is often called a small copy of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, which is located in Moscow. The buildings are really similar in construction, decoration, massive stairs. The church is also in the center, therefore there are always many parishioners, and during major Orthodox holidays, mass events, Orthodox fairs are always organized.

The cathedral was built in the Russian-Byzantine style and is very interesting from an architectural point of view, although it opened relatively recently - in 2009;

  • Pokrovsky Cathedral (St. Ankylosing spondylitis, 36).

Unusual beauty of the temple. It is located in a quiet area, but there are always a lot of parishioners.

It offers a beautiful view of the city, and the interior of the church has a lot of interesting things;

  • Tolshevsky Transfiguration Convent (Talshi microdistrict, not far from the Grafskaya railway station).

Another oldest temple in the region, which was founded in 1646. It is interesting, of course, from a religious point of view - what is called a “prayer place”.

But ancient architecture will certainly interest travelers. It is most convenient to get here by train.

Cultural attractions

  Tourists will find a lot of fascinating exhibition centers, in the collections of which are not only classical examples of art, but also works of modern art.

So, the gallery “H.L.A.M.” has the greatest popularity among young people. on the street Deputatskaya, 1.

The name stands for “Artists, Writers, Artists, Musicians”, which characterizes the main direction of the exhibitions opening in the gallery.

Expositions of works by local figures regularly open here, exhibitions of works by artists from all over the country and neighboring countries are organized, lithographic exhibits from paintings by world-famous painters are regularly brought in.

The Kramskoy Museum is interesting for its architecture - it is the former palace of Lieutenant General Potapov, who was in the status of governor of the region at the end of the 18th century. The building is made in the Baroque style and is protected by the state.

And in the Voronezh Museum of Local Lore, which is located on Plekhanovskaya Street, 29, unique documents are stored related to the history of the region, its formation, development.

By the way, the museum is considered one of the largest in the vicinity, since its archive contains more than 170,000 exhibits.

Often there are exhibitions of non-local history trends, but there is always an exposition dedicated to the capital of the Black Earth Region.

Of course, the cultural heritage is also full of other museums and architectural structures that will be interesting to all tourists:

  • arsenal Museum   (St. Stepan Razin, 43), dedicated to the Second World War;
  • House I. Bunin   (Revolution Avenue, 3), closed to visitors, but at the same time its external facade is definitely worth seeing;
  • Gardenin's House   (Factory Lane, 10) - the oldest local house owned by the wealthy merchant Gardenin;

  • Voronezh Opera and Ballet Theater(Lenin Square, 7).

On the territory of the city there is also a fairly large aquarium, in terms of size it can compete with some of the aquariums in Europe (Parkovaya St., 3).

Voronezh Aquarium has more than 300 species of fish and other representatives of flora and fauna. Camping here, of course, will please both children and adults.

Voronezh is worth a visit not only for its interesting museums, numerous parks and picturesque squares. There are also funny animal monuments - the heroes of famous literary works, and monuments, copies of the first ships of Peter. As well as unusual buildings in the Art Nouveau and Gothic style of the late XIX-XX centuries, which is absolutely surprising for a city located in the south of Central Russia.

A small park in the city center, named after the monument to Peter I, first installed here in 1860. During the war, the monument was removed by German occupiers. In 1956, the sculptors G. A. 28. Voronezh Central Park

The main and largest city park, covering an area of about 100 hectares. Its history began with the creation of a plant nursery in 1844. During the Second World War, almost all green spaces were destroyed, so the park had to be restored from scratch.

29. Voronezh reserve

The reserve is located on the territory of the Lipetsk and Voronezh regions, it covers an area of more than 31 thousand hectares. It was formed in 1923 with the aim of preserving the animal and plant world of the forest-steppe zone. Shrews, hares, bats, minks, deer, badgers, burial eagles, muskrat and several dozens of species of animals, birds and amphibians live here.

30. Voronezh reservoir

One of the world's largest artificial reservoirs located within the city. Its length is about 30 km. The reservoir was created in 1971–72 along with the dam in order to provide Voronezh with water. On its territory there are several uninhabited islands - former hills. Locals often call the reservoir "Voronezh Sea" because of its incredible size.

The tourist route is especially for those who came to Voronezh for just a day or only have a day for a focused walk around the city. The route affects almost all the sights, it is consistent and, depending on the number of stops and speed, takes an average of 4-5 hours. When compiling it, I tried to abandon the use of transport, leaving it only where necessary. If you have more than a day at your disposal, the route is easily broken into pieces. In addition, at the end of the note, I separately added several interesting places that were not included in the main list.

Of course, lovers to go their own way can pull out the sights they like from the text and draw up their own plan for exploring Voronezh. With a total lack of time: when it is practically absent, but you still want to look at the city, pay attention to.

Touristic route: sights of Voronezh in one day

    We begin our journey with station Voronezh-1. Almost all trains, trains, buses from Moscow arrive here. If you arrived by bus from another city, then most likely you will be brought to the bus station. You can get from it to Voronezh-1 at buses 13n and 67aas well as minibus 49b. It takes no more than 15 minutes.

    The building of the main Voronezh station was built after the Great Patriotic War on the site of the destroyed old station. Its roof is decorated with several copper figures of people. A funny feature that I have never met in any city - somewhere from the beginning of the 2010s, the Voronezh station and a small adjacent territory were surrounded by a metal fence. Entrance through a special checkpoint. It’s clear that for security reasons, but it looks strange.

    Once in the forecourt, one cannot help but notice in front of the monument to Ivan Chernyakhovsky, the hero of that same war. Behind him begins mira street, we need it. Cross the road.

    At the end of Peace Street, on a small nameless square, we admire the Glory to Soviet Science monument. Further on our left hand we will see a huge and beautiful cathedral. On the right hand will be orlyonok park. First we look at the park, then back to the cathedral.

    The main attraction of the "Eaglet" - monument to Osip Mandelstam, a good poet, many love his poems, translations. Monument from 2008. He is in the far corner of the "Eaglet", if you look at engels street. And if you look from the monument obliquely through the intersection, we will see Engels along the same street house number 13, where in 1936 Osip Mandelstam rented a room.

    Across Tchaikovsky Street is the Trud Stadium, where the Fakel football team, and sometimes even the Russian team, conducts its matches. Outside, nothing remarkable, but from the stands a great panorama opens up, which includes the already mentioned cathedral, in the evening it is especially expressive. But to see it, you will need a match of a football team, plus a ticket for it.

    After a walk through the park, we return to the monument "Soviet Science" in order to get to know the next attraction of Voronezh. it Annunciation Cathedral, one of the highest Orthodox churches in Russia. It was built relatively recently - in 2009. Near the cathedral is a monument to St. Mitrofan, as well as a monument to the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident near the main entrance.

    We don’t go back from the cathedral, but go through another exit to the intersection and the main Voronezh the avenue bearing the name of the Revolution. We cross the road to the spectacular management building of the Southeast Railway with a tower on the corner.

    Will meet us literally right away museum of Ivan Kramskoy, a Russian painter of the mid-19th century, born not far from Voronezh. The museum is located behind the arch of the very building of the South-Eastern Railway, if you do not know about it, you can overlook the museum.

    It is located in an old building of the late XVIII century. Here, interesting exhibitions are held from time to time, but permanent exhibitions, frankly, for an amateur. Museum visit price - 150 rubles.

    Further along the avenue of the Revolution awaits us Platonovsky Square and actually monument to Andrey Platonov, born in 1899 in the glorious city of Voronezh. Andrey Platonov, along with Alexei Koltsov, is the main literary pride of Voronezh. Recently, the Platonic Arts Festival, which is quite substantial in scale, has even been held here.

    Past monument to Mitrofan Pyatnitsky in the square of the House of Officers you are unlikely to pass, and not so much because of Pyatnitsky’s bust, but because of the balalaika and button accordion in the corner, which are generally perceived by many as a separate pedestal and are always popular with tourists. Mitrofan Pyatnitsky is a musician and collector of folk songs. He lived in the late XIX - early XX century.

    In the continuation of the journey, we will meet the Voronezh Central Department Store, but it is very modest in size and assortment (which can not be said about prices), so we successfully pass it and soon find ourselves in a miniature square with a small fabulous building of the Jester Puppet Theater.

    Here is one of the most recognizable sculptures of Voronezh - monument to White Beam Black Ear, the hero of the book of Gabriel Troepolsky, and later the film of Stanislav Rostotsky. Troepolsky lived for many years in Voronezh, and died here. Travelers love the monument to Bim, they can be seen here at almost any time of the day. Also in the square, pay attention to the huge wall clock with puppet characters.

    After the cinema "Proletarian" turn off from the avenue to the right - on karl Marx Street, in the nearest section it is exclusively pedestrian. Here we will meet one by one monuments to three poets: Ivan Nikitin, Samuel Marshak and Vladimir Vysotsky.

    The pedestrian part of Marx Street itself is empty, but definitely worthy of interest in itself. Once there was an improvised book fair, and now only trees and benches. Although here and there all sorts of cafes and shops already appear. Five years later, I believe, these places will no longer be recognized at all.

    Monument to Samuel Marshak (he is on the right side) appeared in the city only in 2015, and, for my taste, this is one of the best monuments of Voronezh. What can not be said about the monument depicting Vysotsky. Vladimir Semyonovich turned out on it, to put it mildly, not really.

    After Vysotsky we pass a little more straight and onto Nikitinskaya street turn left to get on a wide and beautiful Plekhanovskaya street. Here we need to pass the intersection obliquely and follow a little against the movement of cars in order to look at the historical building of the museum of local lore ( Plekhanovskaya 29) It might be interesting for someone to get inside; the museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday.

    In general, there aren’t as many special attractions on Plekhanovskaya as on Revolution Avenue, for which a particular place is worth visiting, but the street is large, spectacular and in general deserves attention. Plekhanovskaya ends outpost Square and a bridge over the railway, after which the street changes into Moskovsky Prospekt, which lasts even before leaving for the region, from a tourist point of view it is of little interest.

    After the museum of local lore we turn around 180 degrees and move along Plekhanovskaya straight to Pushkin Square and a rather original, but by no means beloved by everyone, monument to Alexander Sergeyevich himself with a famous quote from the poet.

    We go around the square on the left to look at the facade of a neighboring building, because this is a massive building with columns, where you could go if you had time.

    Opposite the theater is a monument to Lenin and a rather large empty area around (in fact, Lenin Square), on holidays there are stands and concerts are held. Behind Lenin is the government building of the Voronezh region. But we do not need it.

    And we need to be behind him - in Platonov Square to sit on "Therapeutic chair No. 0001"ridding of stinginess and greed. This is a monument, but not easy. A smile on your own will be a free bonus.

    On the other side of Lenin Square (relative to the opera and ballet theater) we go to the Nikitin library, in Buninsky Square. Here is located monument to Ivan Bunin. The poet sits on a fallen log, at his feet a dog. The monument is beautiful, with its plot, definitely deserves attention.

    Vladimir Ilyich himself clearly points to our next object of interest from Lenin Square, this Koltsovsky Square, one might say, "the heart of Voronezh." Well maintained, pleasant place for walking or quiet contemplation.

    What is never lacking here is in the shops, there is a free place at any time of the day or night. Despite the roads enclosing the square, it is quite quiet here. Well, it's time to give your feet a rest.

    Inside the square you will find monument to Alexei Koltsov, Voronezh poet straight from the Golden Age. A peculiar monument - a small bust of the poet is supported by a dozen times the size of the base. But the pedestal is historically valuable, in 2018 it will turn 150 years old.

    On the left side of Koltsovsky Square there will be a philharmonic society and the central registry office of Voronezh, on the right - a cult cinema "Spartak" with more than 100 years of history, all sorts of interesting film festivals and unusual screenings are held here. Not sure what to do in the evening? Perhaps it is Spartak that will pleasantly surprise you.

    If you came to Koltsovsky Square in the daytime, I highly recommend stopping by here again late in the evening. With a variety of lighting, the already wonderful landscape begins to play with new colors. And if this is the summer season, then you will also have colorful fountains dancing to music (somewhere from 21:00 to 22:00).

    Having walked and rested, we cross the road to the Spartak Cinema and along Kardashova Street we move forward 150 meters. Through another road, on a small cozy Yesenin Alley awaits us monument to Sergey Yesenin. He was not even ten years old.

    Further along the alley will be monument to the Stone. Not seriously, this is a monument in honor of the 300th anniversary of the first Voronezh school, but all of my friends in Voronezh call it a monument to the Stone, and nothing else, since the whole monument is one big block of stone.

    We pass the alley to the end and on ordzhonikidze street turn right. Very close will be the Resurrection Church, as well as a small pretty one, built in the distant 1826. Locals call it the Bridge of lovers. Ten years ago, he was all hung with "wedding locks", then, on the orders of the authorities, they were all removed. Now, if new specimens appear, then not for long.

    We turn around 180 degrees and go along Ordzhonikidze street in the opposite direction - to the Soviet square and Pokrovsky Cathedral, the main Orthodox church throughout the Voronezh region. The first mention of it in various historical documents dates back to 1615.

    To the left of the cathedral is another monument to Alexei Koltsov and the Voronezh Concert Hall; it is also the second stage of the Koltsov Drama Theater. In front of the facade is a pretty pretty paved area, but a bit empty and clearly in need of improvement.

    Upd. Dreams, as you know, materialize if you want something very much. So, Sovetskaya Square (square) in 2017 waited for reconstruction and landscaping. Perhaps by your visit she will already appear in a new light. Of the minuses - the monument to Alexei Koltsov was removed from here for good. His new place of registration for City Day (September 15, 2018) will be Koltsovsky Boulevard.

    Koltsovsky Boulevard is located at the intersection of Plekhanovskaya and Koltsovskaya Streets. If you wish, you can “capture” it along the route by making a small detour at point 14: after the monument to Vysotsky on the pedestrian part of Marx Street, we turn left not on Nikitskaya Street, but on the next 500 meters later. This is just Koltsovsky Boulevard. [It’s even more convenient, since there is no need to go back and forth to the Museum of Local Lore, he himself will meet on the way to Lenin Square. Perhaps the next update of the route I will put this option as the main one.]

    We go around the Pokrovsky Cathedral on the right and go down a little bit along the road - straight to the Children’s Square, to the picturesque square of the Palace of Children and Creativity and no less picturesque the Palace itself. Everything here is beautiful, but the place however is often deserted. Several private houses on the borders of the square - that’s the whole civilization.

    After looking around, we return to Pokrovsky Cathedral to turn onto the next street - Ankylosing spondylitisby which we pass down to private houses to voronezh River. Walk about half a kilometer. The street is small, narrow, passers-by are often not there at all. [Note that neighboring streets end in dead ends.]

    At the end of Bekhterev street to the right we cross one road and along the “zebra” the second. Further on the right side we go around the fence. We will end up on Petrovskaya Embankment, which offers a wonderful view of the left bank of Voronezh, the river Voronezh itself, the bridges, and, of course, on.

    Very close and Admiralteyskaya Square, one of the most beautiful places in Voronezh. Well-groomed landscape, benches, Rostral columnEstablished in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Russian fleet, built at the end of the 17th century, Petrovsky Island is in full view. All this you will find on Admiralteyskaya Square.

    Often there are all kinds of concerts and other cultural events. In general, a chic place that is not a sin to visit. It has only one significant drawback - and walking on foot is not always easy and not always convenient.

    In the far corner of the square on the water you will see a large beautiful ship "Goto Predestination" (translated from German approximately as “God's foresight”), this is a historical copy of the ship from the time of Peter I. The ship was built recently, only by 2014.

    In addition to external advantages, it is also a museum. I myself have not visited it, a very popular place, especially on weekends, tickets are sold out like hot cakes. For one excursion, the ship can be visited by no more than 20 people.

    The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 to 18 hours. Excursions take place at 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17 hours. The only exception is Thursday from June 1 to September 1, here the working hours and excursions are shifted by +2 hours. Ticket price 300 rubles.

    If you are lucky and the tickets will be on sale, do not hesitate, be sure to visit the "Goto Predestination". Unfortunately, mere mortals can’t book tickets, and they won’t be able to buy online either. I hope someday this will be fixed. I also recommend paying attention to this comment below.

    And here is a useful addition from another comment: “In order to be sure to get to the“ Goto Prestation ”, you must come before the ticket office opens, about 20 minutes, then you definitely buy tickets. For children and senior citizens, the ticket price is 100 rubles. ”

    By the way, since we are next to the river, for sure, someone had a thought about swimming in it. Theoretically, this can be done - there is where, but not worth it. Formally, this is prohibited due to non-compliance with sanitary standards, in fact - there is no need to spoil your impression of the city. The water is very dirty, too much visible garbage.

    From Admiralteyskaya Square, we go along the river to the left (if you turn to face it) straight to Chernavsky bridge, the first bridge to meet. A little before reaching the traffic light, we cross the street and move along the road upward perpendicular to the embankment.

    This is an uphill climb, not Everest, of course, but be prepared to get a little out of breath. Next, you need to pass a little more than a kilometer along a rather dusty road straight to the already familiar to us Revolution Avenue, and then turn left.

    Along the way, nothing interesting is expected, so if you are too lazy to stomp uphill, use the alternative option: we pass under the Chernavsky bridge, cross the street on the first zebra and follow a little forward to the Chernavsky Bridge stop, we take almost any transport (namely buses: 101, 120A, 2n, 41, 52, 79, 90; minibuses: 104, 20, 312A, 37a, 77k; trolley 8), we go two stops to Petrovsky Square, after which we go to the opposite side along one of the few underground passages in Voronezh.

    Here we offer you Petrovsky Square and majestic monument to Peter Icreated on the models of 1860. In 2009, by a vote of residents of Voronezh, this monument was recognized as an unofficial symbol of the city. The square itself is ennobled, nice, but somewhat decorative. You know how sometimes paintings are in houses not hanged for the sake of beauty, but to create a common composition.

    I recommend to visit here book club "Petrovsky" (beyond the fountain we enter the shopping center and left). This is an interesting, cozy bookstore with a rich and unexpected assortment, where before buying a book you can safely see it and look through it while sitting in a comfortable chair. And there is also a small cafe.

    Also, the book club periodically hosts various events: creative meetings, shows, concerts. Book prices are above average, but other publications in Voronezh (and not only) cannot be found. Well, for "read / see pictures" no one will demand money from you.

    Further from the square we follow the movement of cars along Revolution Avenue towards Lenin Square. pay attention to main post office and the blue next door building with lions ( ave. Revolution, 27), here in the middle of the XIX century was hotel Schwanwich.

    Between the post office and the former hotel fit a worthy monument to the "Front Postman", behind it a small victory SquareHe is Victory Square. Here is the Great Patriotic War memorial, eternal flame and a beautiful 40-meter stele. Despite the military theme in this square, there is a pleasant atmosphere to sit on the bench, having a little rest from the walk.

    In the continuation of the path of 800 meters we simply admire the architecture until we are met, founded at the beginning of the 19th century, the theater will be on the left, its facade is located on the side of Karl Marx Street.

    We cross the avenue of the Revolution after the theater and go a little further past the Philharmonic and the registry office to the public transport stop called Koltsovsky Square. Here we take one of the following routes: buses 41, 79, 90; minibus 37a. We leave at the stop "General Lizyukov Street". To go for 10-15 minutes.

    What kind of Lizyukov is this in whose honor the street is named? This is a major general of the Soviet army, a hero of the Union, who died at the age of 42 during the Great Patriotic War somewhere in the Voronezh region; where exactly is unknown. You have probably guessed where and why we are heading, right?

    Not far from the stop we are waiting for the most recognizable and most beloved symbol of Voronezh - kitten from the street Lizyukova, more precisely, a monument depicting a kitten sitting on a tree and a crow sitting in a row nearby.

    The monument is very beautiful, friendly, it is loved by both children and adults. Its only drawback is the location, because Lizyukova street is far from the center of Voronezh, in any case, you need to go here by bus or taxi. But you won’t put a kitten in another place, it’s not from anywhere, namely from Lizyukov Street. There are few tourists here, no one will bother to take a look at the monument in detail and take plenty of pictures with the kitten.

    If you still have time and desire to walk, go a couple more stops in the direction of travel to amazing monument to paratroopers.

    And once you have come here, be sure to take another stop and look into cafe "At Bilbo". How to find him: after building No. 46 on Lizyukova street, turn right and after 150 meters on the right you will see “At Bilbo”, you can’t confuse him with anything. Read more about this cafe in the next article.

    In a nutshell: “Bilbo’s” is a damn cozy place where you don’t just want to drink and eat, but just stay, even if you, like me, are not a fan of The Lord of the Rings, etc. For fans, it's just a fairy tale. Prices are slightly above average.

    That's all. From "Bilbo" we return to Lizyukova street, cross the road and at the stop "Street 60 years of the Komsomol" get into the transport. To the railway station is bus number 62 or minibus number 75, ride about 15-20 minutes. To the bus station (he is nearby): buses 120A, 13n, 5a, 79, 90; minibus 125. To Lenin Square (the stop will be called "Opera and Ballet Theater") - bus number 5a, minibus number 125.

    If you have finished the walk at the monument to the kitten, go to st. Lizyukova and turn around the corner to marshal Zhukov street, the stop will be a stone's throw away. You will reach the railway station at bus number 62 15 minutes to the bus station on almost any route: buses 120A, 13n, 27, 27A, 415a, 79, 90; minibuses 125, 37, 37a; trolleybus 17. To Lenin Square: bus number 5a, minibuses 37 and 125.

Where else to go in Voronezh?

I will add a couple of points as a bonus that I have not included in the main route, but nothing prevents you from fixing this.

    Scarlet Sails Park (st. Arzamasskaya, 93) It is located on the left bank (you did not forget that Voronezh is located on both sides of the river?). It offers a picturesque view of the river, the bridge and, in fact, the right bank.

    In Scarlet Sails there is a beach, swimming, I’ll remind you, it’s not worth it, but lounging in the sun after reading an interesting book, you can not without pleasure, if the weather allows. Also, holidays, festivities are periodically held here. In general, it is fun.

    Getting here is best after visiting Petrovskaya Embankment. At the Chernavsky bridge we sit on bus 68a or minibuses 104, 20, 37a. We go 4 stops to the "Arzamasskaya Street", follow a little directly in the direction of travel and immediately turn right, after 250 meters there will be an entrance to the Scarlet Sails. (To return later to the route to Petrovsky Square, take the minibuses 104, 20, 37a, 77k reversed).

    Yesenin Museum (st. Karl Marx, 112) In general, there are two of them in Voronezh (the second on Donbasskaya street). They are both small. Here I will mention the new one, since it is closer to the center.

    The expositions here are very modest, which is understandable: Yesenin has never been to Voronezh. Most of them are copies or props from the Esenin series. But where else can you meet a pot-shaped roof? Moreover, admission to the museum is free.

    It works from 10 to 18. It’s more convenient to go here after a walk along the pedestrian part of Karl Marx Street (point 13), the hook will have to be made not so big: after the monument to Vysotsky we’ll not turn anywhere, go straight another 700 meters, the museum will be on the right - at the intersection with 1905 Revolution Street.

    It’s hard not to notice the huge bowler hat, this is the entrance to the museum. To return to the route after it, on 1905 Revolution Street we turn left, then go to Plekhanovskaya, cross the road and turn left again, after 400 meters we will be met by the building of the museum of local lore.

    Monument of Glory and the pyramid (the intersection of Moskovsky Prospekt and Khodzunov Street) Everything is clear with the Glory Monument - it is installed in memory of the soldiers who died in the Great Patriotic War in the battles for Voronezh. Monolithic impressive monument, eternal flame, flowers. But the big red pyramid right in the center of the square with the inscription “Voronezh is a city of military glory” is a mystery of the city.

    They installed a pyramid in 2000, and the inscription appeared only in 2009. The irony is that a large part of tourists [yes there are tourists, not all locals even know] they take the pyramid for the monument of Glory. If you go by bus, it is not easy to notice the monument on the side of the road, but a bright pyramid with a characteristic inscription in the center is almost impossible.

    I recommend getting here either before or after visiting the monument to the kitten from Lizyukova Street, it is nearby, only a kilometer away. As here, and from here to the center there is a huge number of routes, I will not even list them. Ask any passerby. The necessary stop is called the “Monument of Glory”.

    Model of the ship Mercury

    Voronezh, Voronezh reservoir

    The fact that Voronezh is the “cradle of the Russian fleet” resembles the model of the Mercury ship, located on a concrete pedestal in the middle of the Voronezh reservoir. You can admire one of the first Russian ships with which Peter I "went to Azov" during a boat trip.

  • Next pageTrack.
Voronezh is one of the most beautiful cities in Russia; its rich history has left its mark everywhere, decorating city streets with remarkable architectural and cultural monuments. The multi-faceted Voronezh reminds one of a cute cartoon kitten from Lizyukov Street, others know him as the homeland of the Navy, and for some it is the place where Tu-144 and Il-86 aircraft began to be constructed for the first time in the world.

The name of Voronezh is an atomic submarine missile-carrying cruiser, and two lunar craters are named after the inhabitants of the city.

On the territory of Voronezh, 4 ancient Russian settlements were found: there is a hypothesis that these places were described in one of the oldest European annals - the ancient Aryan epic. On the right bank of the Voronezh reservoir, from Lysaya to Barkova Gora, there is an 11-kilometer archaeological complex called the Voronezh Vantit. It includes 34 different-time monuments of 8-10 centuries and 565 barrows.

Despite the actual age (the city was officially founded in 1568), Voronezh is a new city, restored from ruins after the Great Patriotic War. In July 1942, German troops approached Voronezh, occupied its right-bank part, at the same time bombing from the air, most of it was destroyed to the ground. The defense lasted until January 1943. Later, the city was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Order of Lenin, and in recent history it received the honorary title of the Russian Federation “City of Military Glory”.

Despite the actual age (the city was founded in 1568), Voronezh is a new city, restored from ruins after the Great Patriotic War.

Peter I laid the foundation for the construction of the Russian fleet in Voronezh, thereby making a huge contribution to the history of the city. Here, to our time, the Palace of Peter has been preserved with a citadel and a Zeichhaus on the island. In the beautiful Petrovsky Square in 1860 a bronze monument was erected to the emperor, which turned into one of the symbols of Voronezh.

In addition to the bronze Peter, a lot of monuments were erected in the city dedicated to other famous people who left an imprint in the history of the city and country: Ivan Nikitin, Alexei Koltsov, Ivan Bunin, Sergey Yesenin, Osip Mandelstam and Andrei Platonov. There are also unusual monuments: the animated Kitten from Lizyukova Street, the dog Bim - the hero of G. Troepolsky’s novel “The White Bim - the Black Ear”, as well as bronze “surprises” to the townspeople and guests — then a parrot with a pirate chest, then a panther, then a shoe near the store ...

Although the Great Patriotic War destroyed Voronezh almost to the foundation, the great city carefully preserves the memory of the brave and noble heroes of the war. The Voronezh Rotunda is the ruins of the main entrance to the building of the regional children's hospital, destroyed during the war and preserved in such a way that this unusual monument always reminds of what difficult times the city left behind. There is also a memorial complex in Voronezh - the Monument of Glory - where an eternal flame burns, a stele stands with the Order of the Patriotic War of the first degree, and on the granite tombstones of the mass grave, which buried ten thousand soldiers, the names of heroes who defended their city glitter with gold.

Most of the sights of Voronezh are located in the city center within walking distance from the railway station. To visit some, you will have to leave the center or even go beyond the city limits, but only a few kilometers.

Voronezh lives a rich cultural life. Among the many museums of the city, in addition to traditional and “protocol”, you can visit such interesting ones as:

  • The Museum of Forgotten Music, the collection of which carefully holds musical instruments belonging to different peoples of the world;
  • Gallery H. L.A. M., dedicated to contemporary art;
  • Theatrical Doll Museum A. A. Veselov at the Voronezh Puppet Theater;
  • The house-museums of Durov, Koltsov, Nikitin.

Special mention deserves the Voronezh Regional Art Museum. I.N. Kramskoy - a kind of palace, which contains objects of painting, graphics, sculpture: from the monuments of ancient Egypt and antiquity to the works of Russian and Western European art schools of the 18-20 centuries and ancient Russian icons, objects of decorative art, porcelain and many many others.
