We had many plans, but mosquitoes ruined everything. We drove into the city along Lenin Street, left a car on Sverdlov and went to the sanatorium “Foothills of the Caucasus”, it is from its walls that a galaxy of natural attractions begins. The first thing that everyone should see is the Dante Gorge, named after the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, the author of The Divine Comedy. Dante perfectly described Hell, for which he was awarded the title of the greatest poet of all ages! The gorge in the Hot Key itself reminded some of the description of the road to Hell.

Cunning tourists, beginning in the 1960s, intensively paint rocks in these places, to meet the inscription “Vasya was here”, “the Dudko and Mironyan family - 2014”, “Kostya loves his cat” is a common thing. I hope that people reading this article are intellectuals and do not write down world natural relics. The gorge is cool, but the climb is very sharp, you need to consider this if you are planning a vacation with senior citizens or young children.

Hot Key Walk

It will be interesting to start a walk along the Hot Key at the city museum of local lore. It is located on the main street of the resort. The first collections of this museum were collected by the commander of the Psekupsky regiment, Ivan Popko, and put on public display in 1864. In fact, it was the first museum of local lore created in the Caucasus.

After approximately 0.6 km, the alley leads to monument "140 years to the resort". It was installed in the anniversary for the Hot Key 2004. Without changing direction, after 0.25 km you can go to a five-meter arch with lions.It was built in honor of the half-century anniversary of the resort. Two massive lions, sitting at the base of the columns, rest on the dead boars. This symbolizes that health defeats the disease.

If you continue walking southwest along the banks of the Psekups River from the drinking gallery, after 0.4 km you will reach an interesting natural monument - rock "Cockerel". It is located on the outskirts of the city, near the Abadzekh or Klyuchevaya mountains. Previously, she bore the name "Cliffs of Salvation."

The cliff rises 28 meters above the river. This is the result of the centuries-old stubbornness of Psekups, who squeezed the ledge of the Abadzekh Mountain. The upper teeth of the cliff resemble a crest. When you go along the highway on the opposite bank of the river, the rock formation is clearly visible. In “Petushka” there are two small caves - “Voiced” and “Salvation”, between which a staircase was cut in sandstone.

From the "Cockerel" a stone's throw to the stele or living water monument  and Iversky Chapel. They are set nearby in the spacious Mineral Glade at the foot of Klyuchevaya Gora.

The stela was put in 1914. Initially, she was supposed to honor the memory of Russian soldiers who took part in the military campaign in the Caucasus. Nameplates with the names of military units were even installed on the monument. But then they began to perceive the stele as a monument to the healing thermal waters in the Psekups valley, that real "living" water that brought health to so many people who visited the Goryachy Klyuch.

The chapel was erected in the 19th century near the exit to the surface of the Iversky iron source. It was erected at a stone grotto. But in the 20s of the last century, as a result of shifts of soil strata, the source dried up.

Behind Mineral Glade begins Dantovo Gorgeor gap. This is an amazing monument of nature, as well as human zeal and imagination. The gorge is embedded in the mountain slopes at 15 m and has a length of about 0.1 km. In the 70s of the XIX century, along the bottom of it began to cut through a staircase that was named Dante in honor of the famous Italian poet Dante Alighieri.

It’s cool in a narrow slit even on a hot day, and most of its places never get the sun, just like on the road to hell from the Dante's “Divine Comedy”. For many decades, professional sculptors and amateurs have carved many different images and portraits on the walls of the gorge. Psekups is the river on which the Hot Key stands. It originates in the mountains of the Caucasus and is a left tributary of the Kuban. In places where hydrogen sulfide sources flow into it, it has a characteristic color and smell.

Next is the main building of the sanatorium, and opposite it is the Drinking Gallery. Entrance to the drinking springs of the Hot Key is free, but if you don’t have a mug with you, you will have to buy a glass. This practice is common in all pump rooms, no one will give you a drink from the tap. If you want to fill the bottle, then you will also have to buy the corresponding container from the cashier. Even in the building of the Drinking Gallery, you can improve your health with phytotea and oxygen cocktail.

In Goryachy Klyuch, a bust is erected on a monument to Academician Pavlov, a Nobel laureate, whose name is known to every student by the phrase “Pavlov’s dog”, driven into memory. The academician does not associate any biographical facts with the Hot Key, which allows us to conclude that the Nobel laureate rested and was treated here.

There are goods on the territory of the park that go against the philosophy of spa treatment. These are hamburgers, chips, lemonade and pasties. Since we arrived at Goryachiy Klyuch not to be treated, we were not tempted by harmful food and did not experience a strong remorse. But we won’t be tempting - the chebureks in the Hot Key cannot do it.

If we walk a little further along the alley, we will come to a sculptural composition with a small fountain on the pediment, which reports that Mountain Park begins next.

Further along the route, the road diverges. You can go right to the river and admire its course from the bridge, or go straight and go out to the Iversky Chapel. We went to the river, where you can rent a catamaran or a boat and swim under the bridge of lovers to the rock of the Cockerel and back. To be honest, it was difficult to imagine the scale of the entire park, because when you are preparing for the trip, the Internet maps do not allow you to understand what kind of terrain the landscape and the volume covered. And since the time for inspection is often limited by transport, you have to hurry.

We go along this walking boulevard to this very bridge, to the bridge a little to the right there is a specially fenced place where hydrogen sulfide springs are beaten and bathtubs are equipped.

We went to the bridge of lovers. It offers a wonderful view of the Psekups river and the Cockerel rock.

Rock Cockerel

You can also admire the Cockerel from the opposite bank, where the descent to the river is equipped. The M4 Don highway runs very close here, so you can leave your car here.

Returning to the main route, we climbed the rock of Petushka. From the bridge, the cliff looks steep and high. In fact, the route to the rock is very simple. It will be mastered even by a child, and a gazebo is installed on the rock itself so that you can sit and enjoy the local beauties. Steps lead to the cliff, and the observation deck is equipped with a railing for safety; to avoid accidents, do not climb over fences.

The rock also has a second name - the rock of Salvation, and if everything is clear with the name Cockerel, it looks like a crest of a rooster, then the second name is associated with one of the legends with which the Caucasus is so full and which can be heard without exaggeration about each waterfall, mountain and gorge of the Caucasian ranges.

Further, the path deepens into the forest, but the park turned out to be very small, so do not be afraid to get lost or get tired.

Dantovo Gorge

We go to the site from which you can see the Dantovo Gorge, this is another attraction of the route. Descending from the hill we find ourselves in a narrow gorge between the hills. It is noteworthy in that the stone walls of the hills in places converge very closely. And the limestone rock allows you to leave traces of your stay in the gorge. A convenient route has been laid along the gorge with railings, floorings and stairs. The route is really short, so do not rush too much.

The gorge ends with a clearing, on which the Iverskaya chapel is located, part of the chapel is located in the grotto, around which the outer part of the chapel is completed. Opposite it is a monument to the founders of the resort. In the same clearing, a little to the side and in the shadow is the source of St. Panteleimon. From here it is already very close to the central part of the park. Thus, we could get around the entire park in just 3 hours, all that was left was to eat and walk along the pedestrian alley of the city.

As for food in the Hot Key. All holidaymakers eat in the dining rooms of their sanatoriums. If you wish, you can use this option. To do this, go to the central building and purchase a ticket for one-time meals. From a person it comes out about 500 p. But there is indoors, when it smells of pine on the street, we found it inappropriate and went to look for an open cafe. There are not as many catering establishments as it could be, but you will not stay hungry and find something for sure. We found a restaurant not very nice in appearance, but very pleasant to the taste.

Walking on Lenin Street is less comfortable than walking around the resort park, it looks very much like an ordinary street.

If you didn’t come to Goryachiy Klyuch for 4-5 hours, like us, but at least for 8-9, then you can take a trip to the Psechiaco waterfall on the Maltsev brook, and turn on the mirror to the rock along the way. But this route will be more complicated. Its passage will require physical endurance, you will have to walk about 10 km, as well as the ability to navigate the terrain or simply take a navigator or a local guide with you.
