Bangkok tour on your own in 1 day. What to see in Bangkok: the largest guide to real places. Other places in Bangkok

Tourists usually travel to the capital of Thailand, as beach vacations are more popular, so most visitors stay here for no more than three days. What to see in Bangkok in such a short time so that the impression of it is not blurry, we will consider in this article. The fact is that we ourselves compiled such a route and it helped us a lot when traveling independently in Thailand. I will also give you some recommendations in which part of the city it is better to stop in order to make traveling around the sights convenient and less expensive. So, I invite everyone to walk around the city of Angels - Bangkok!

What to see in Bangkok in 3 days

If I were offered to describe the capital of Thailand in a nutshell, I would say that Bangkok for me is a rubik's cube. You never know how the puzzle will turn out, what a surprise this city has prepared for you at the next step. It is so multifaceted and amazing that every tourist will find in it something interesting for himself. And if you miss a visit to Bangkok when visiting Thailand, you will lose a lot! This city has something to surprise, ranging from fried cockroaches in restaurants, ala-New York city-style skyscrapers to urban slums on the water. So, how to make a walk in Bangkok as saturated as possible?

 • Firstly, you need to choose the right place for housing. How much you choose a hotel depends on how many attractions in Bangkok you have time to visit and you will not be a tourist exhausted in the heat with a tongue on his shoulder). If you look at the map of the attractions of Bangkok, then all the TOP places for tourists to visit are located near the street (khaosan road) or on the Ratannakosin Peninsula - this is the historical center of Bangkok. If you choose a hotel for your stay on Khaosan, you don’t have to spend money on taxis and tuk-tuks, all the large temples and palaces can be bypassed. On arrival in Bangkok, we did just that, and we never regretted it. After all, a tourist who comes to a multi-million megalopolis for the first time doesn’t really want to understand the city transport system, especially when all the signs on the subway are in hieroglyphs). To book hotels we use hotellook.com, in the parameters you can specify the area, airport or metro station.
 • Secondly, you need to have on hand a map of Bangkok's attractions in paper form, which can be taken free of charge at any local travel agency (travelinformation).
 • Thirdly, download on your phone an application that works offline maps.me or something like that. Also, do not forget to take a backpack for a walk in which you can put a bottle of water, put on comfortable shoes and a hat.

What to see in Bangkok on your own

1. Khaosan Road

KhaoSan Road is not only the most convenient location for the traveler in the city, but also one of the attractions of Bangkok. The length of the street is only 400 meters, but only here you can fully feel how the life of the city is in full swing. On Khaosan, they offer to try fried scorpions, drink a cocktail with snake venom, here you can buy a ticket for anywhere in the SEA, merge with a crowd of tourists from around the world, dance on the pavement and make the famous Thai massage for only 150 baht. Do not confuse Khaosan Road with the streets of Thailand with “night butterflies,” such as Bangla Road or Volkin Street.

Where it is: GPS coordinates - 13.758858, 100.497377

2. The Grand Royal Palace (Grand Palace) and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha

The top-end attraction, which is advised to visit - this is of course the Royal Palace in Bangkok. And you will understand this in turn from people in front of the gates of the sights, so it is best to plan a trip to the Palace in the early morning, half an hour before the opening of the complex.

You have probably heard that the king rules Thailand, but the Grand Royal Palace is not the residence of the current ruler, but of King Rama I and his descendants until 1945. However, despite the fact that today the royal family does not live here, they like to hold ceremonies, weddings and receptions of important guests in this place. The territory of the complex is not just large, but huge, there are many structures in the form of temples, more than 20 attractions in all, including the famous Temple of the Emerald Buddha. If you go to the Palace from Khaosan Road, then it will not be difficult to find it, you can recognize it by the high white wall that encloses the territory.

Opening hours: 8.30 - 16.30, ticket office until 15.30 daily. Entrance is 500 baht. Need closed clothing, entrance to the shrines without shoes, rent a sarong and shoe covers - 200 baht. From 10.00 every hour until 14.00 free guided tours in English begin.

Where is the Grand Royal Palace: GPS coordinates - 13.750103, 100.491288

Where is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha: GPS coordinates - 13.751658, 100.492701

3. Temple complex of the Reclining Buddha Wat Pho

Another attraction in Bangkok, which can be visited with a visit to the Grand Royal Palace, because they are located in the immediate vicinity of each other, is the Wat Pho Temple Complex.

That's why crowds of tourists flock here every day - this is a huge 46 meter statue of the Reclining Buddha with feet covered with a layer of gold, under which lies the remains of King Rama I. It is also called a resting, sleeping, meditating and even dying man. He looks the last least of all, since he smiles)

Here, be sure to remember to make a wish and your own to improve karma. To do this, at the entrance to the Temple, you need to give a small donation, take dishes with a handful of coins, and throw a coin behind each Buddha in each of 108 pots.

There is also a Massage School at the Temple, where you can learn the ancient Thai massage technique, as well as massage, the price list for services does not differ much from the street ones.

Entrance - 200 baht, the ticket includes 0.33 liters. a bottle of water. Opening hours are 8.30 a.m. - 6.30 p.m.

Where it is: GPS coordinates - 13.746560, 100.492591

I personally was most impressed not by the Buddha statue, but by the pagodas located in the courtyard. They are so colorful, made in the form of stepped turrets, lined with colored glass mosaics on all sides. Each stupa was made in honor of a significant event or king.

There are also many original statues, for example, such as these statues of formidable warriors, reminiscent of the captain of the Flying Dutchman, with a beard consisting of tentacles. Those who watched Pirates of the Caribbean will understand what I mean)

For tourists tired of the heat in the Temple there are places for relaxation, such as benches under the trees next to an artificial pond and fish.

4. Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit)

The main difference between this Temple and many other temples is a three-meter Buddha statue made of pure gold with eyes decorated with sapphires and pearls. In times of turbulence for the country, many encroached on this value, and in order to protect it from theft, the monks covered the statue with a thick layer of gypsum. This secret died with those who knew him, so for 200 years, no one knew what value was hidden under the whitewash, until one of the pieces of gypsum accidentally fell off.

The temple with the most expensive sculpture in the world weighing 4 tons of pure gold is located on Tri Mit Rd Street in the center of Bangkok in Chinatown (China town), working hours 9.00 - 17.00, entrance - 40 baht., GPS coordinates - 13.737711 , 100.513569.

5. Golden Mount Temple (Wat Saket)

Golden Mountain Temple got its name not by chance, it offers stunning panoramic views of the city - this is the highest point in Bangkok, not counting buildings, and if you like observation platforms, I advise you to climb to its top.

But in the past its main purpose was still not so pleasant, when the city crematorium was located here, and at the base of the mountain there are not gold deposits, as the name suggests, but the remains of 60 thousand of the population of Bangkok. Another interesting feature of the Temple, at its foot there is a composition consisting of a neck, eating the flesh of a person, I hope that the deceased and statues of people who are watching this feast with interest.

The temple is located in the center of Bangkok, and if you are in the Kaosan area and you have a map at hand, then it will not be difficult for you to walk to it yourself, as we did.

Opening hours from 07.30 to 17.30, entrance - 20 baht.

Where it is: GPS coordinates - 13.753925, 100.506678

6. Temple of the Morning Dawn (Wat Arun)

Another observation point in Bangkok, located on the channel of the Chaopraya River. it looks especially impressive in the morning, when the first rays of the sun fall on its surface, covered with gold and mosaic. If you look closely at the Temple of Dawn, you might think that it is made of broken cups, which is indeed the case. Once on the Chaopraya River, a barge from China sank expensive china. In order not to lose good, Thais decided to get the remains of dishes from the bottom and decorate the Temple with them.

Wat Arun Temple can be admired not only climbing to its top, but also from the opposite bank of the river, for example, having dinner in a cafe, it is effectively illuminated by spotlights at night.

The Temple of the Morning Dawn is located directly opposite the Royal Palace, only from the opposite bank of the river, so it is better to get here by water transport. You need to go to the pier, where a boat runs between the banks, which will transport you to Wat Arun for a penny. The rest of the transport - a bus or a water bus - will go round-the-clock, therefore, before landing, it is better to inquire and ask how soon there will be a stop at Wat Arun, if you do not figure it out yourself, Thais usually advise where to transfer.

Opening hours are from 8:00 - 18:00. Entrance is 50 baht.

Where it is: GPS coordinates - 13.743773, 100.488916

7. Temple of the Standing Big Buddha (Luang Pho To)

For the sake of interest, we nevertheless took a walk to another Buddha statue in Bangkok, but if you have been to all of the above Temples before, you can safely skip it. But if it’s interesting what is unusual in it, we read further. The building is considered the tallest Buddha in Bangkok and has a height of 32 meters, covered with a layer of gold, which slowly falls off and lies right at the foot of the statue. But no one encroaches on these pieces of precious metal, on the contrary, local people carefully rub gold into the feet of the Buddha, and never come to the statue empty-handed, at the foot is full of food, drinks and flowers. By the way, an interesting fact, in the forelock of the statue are hidden relics of the Buddha, which were brought from Sri Lanka. Near the Big Buddha there is a mini market with food, souvenirs and offerings, after a long walk, you can have a cheap meal.

As we walked to the Big Buddha on foot, we walked through such colorful lanes with windows. There was a great desire to look into the courtyard, but did not dare to violate private borders. In order to come to the Big Buddha in Bangkok we did not need public transport, it is quite possible to walk from Khaosan. Since the place is located in another part of the TOP attractions in Bangkok, there are no crowds of tourists here.

Entrance to the shrine is free.

Opening hours - daily from 8.30 - 20.00. Free admission

8. Chaopraya River

If your brain is boiling from a huge number of Buddhas and Temples, then it's time to refresh yourself and take a river walk. There are two types of boat trips in Bangkok, which I will tell you about now.

The first is, I would say, a longer transport trip, which is used by locals and tourists for quick movement without traffic jams, along the channel of the main Bangkok river - the Chaopraya river. It can be done if necessary and just for exploring the city. To do this, you need to come to any pier in Bangkok and catch a river tram. The ticket fee is symbolic - 13 baht, for it you will receive a large-scale walk along the widest channel of the Chaopraya River, see the tallest buildings in Bangkok and modern architecture. And in order to return back, it is enough to board a boat going in the other direction.

9. Channels or Klongs of Bangkok

The second boat trip is no less interesting, it will show you Bangkok from its opposite side, and if you are still sure that you know everything about this city, welcome to the most revealing excursion - a river walk through the Klong! No wonder I called it a guided tour, because I won’t be able to see the channels of Bangkok myself, I’ll have to hire a boat together with a boatman. But you will get a lot of emotions and impressions from another Bangkok.

To do this, you need to come to the pier of the Tha Chang pier, which is located directly at the Royal Palace. My advice is to come here in the morning from 8.00, so you have time to capture all the main events. You will immediately see many travel agencies from which you can buy a Klong tour. We hired a boat for 500 baht, and the driver drove us with the breeze for an hour to the most impressive places - the Floating Market, a fish farm, the temple of the Morning Dawn (Wat Arun), the Royal Barge Museum and the slums on water. Most of all I was impressed by the houses standing directly on the water, their residents go swimming in the store, and the children dive into the river from the threshold of the apartments.

In more detail about our route along the Bangkok Klongs, I told

10. The floating market

If you don’t have enough time to go to the Floating Market while walking along the canals or decide to skip this tour, you can go to one of the floating markets in Bangkok on your own. As you probably guessed from the name, this is the same market only on water. Previously, for farmers from the outskirts of Bangkok - this was the most convenient way of delivering fresh products to city residents, but today the markets on the water have a slightly different function and are more focused on entertainment for tourists. For the sake of what the majority of visitors come to the market, it is to take a photo, to see with their own eyes an unusual trade in water and eat in an exclusive setting. Although they sell here all the same things that you can buy on the streets of Bangkok.

In Bangkok, there are two large popular Floating Market - this is Amphawa, located in the city and Bang Nam Phueng is located in the Bangkok area of Phra Pradaeng. It is best to come to the market on Saturday or Sunday, these are the main days of work. The rest are located outside the city and I recommend getting there with tour groups and a guide.

11. Chinatown (China town)

Chinatown or Chinatown is located next to the Royal Palace in Bangkok on Yarowat Rd Street, the entrance to which begins with a large gate in the Chinese style, so if you wish, you can take a walk after visiting the main attractions. Our walk around the quarter took place in the late afternoon, and I think this is the best time to visit it. Because Chinatown in Bangkok is more shopping and the opportunity to have a bite to eat with the same name than some kind of excursion. True, not every tourist will risk trying what they offer there - shark fin soup or bird's nests, ordinary dishes in China Town)

They sell not only Chinese consumer goods, which are full in our city, but also good Chinese drugs, medicinal teas, and pharmacy products. From food you can buy for pennies dried squid, instant almond milk, Chinese porcelain, fish and seafood, dried mushrooms. If you are looking for unusual gifts for loved ones in Bangkok, then this is the place for him. I am not a fan of wandering around the narrow streets among the numerous stalls, but for those who want to try exotic dishes or buy cheap food, this is a great place.

Where it is: in the center of Bangkok, the main street of China Town - Yaowarat Road, GPS coordinates - 13.741273, 100.508197

12. Giant Swings and Wat Suthat Thep Wararam

The giant swing in Bangkok is a structure of two red pillars 21 meters high, connected by a crossbar. As a swing, they are no longer used, but they are of special historical value to the city. An interesting fact is that they are made using ancient technology from teak and decorated with hand-carved. In the last century, there was a ritual according to which men competed in rocking on a giant swing, but after deaths, this custom was abolished.

Ten minutes are enough to inspect the swing, and then you can continue the walk to the Wat Suthat Temple Complex, which is located next door. The decoration of the interior of the Temple also contains elements of wood carving, hand-painted murals. Particular attention can be paid to the entrance doors to Wat Sathat, made of solid teak with five tiers of carving, according to which you can read the ancient legends of Thailand.

Entrance to the complex Wat Suthat (Wat Suthat) - 20 baht. For tourists open for visiting - Sat and Sun 8.30 - 16.00

Where it is: GPS coordinates - 13.751100,100.501060

13. Parks

My main advice to you is to dilute sightseeing tours in Bangkok with trips to the park. The fact is that in Thailand almost all year round there is a suffocating heat, especially it is felt in urban conditions during long walks. And since there is no sea in the megalopolis and no opportunity to freshen up, the best way to restore strength is to go to the evergreen park. We did so and it always saved us from fatigue, it is especially good to come to the park in the midday heat or after sunset. Damir loved to jog along the tracks, and I just sit on the grass and watch) Parks in Bangkok against the background of tall skyscrapers look especially bewitching.

Also keep in mind that Bangkok parks have opening hours and usually after 21:00 the main gate closes from visitors. And the main difference from Russian parks is that you cannot come here with dogs, smoking is also strictly prohibited.

TOP 3 most visited parks in Bangkok:

1. Chatuchak Park. Here you can not only enjoy the coolness, but also see two-meter monitor lizards calmly walking along the lawns, turtles and squirrels, take a walk along the banana and bamboo groves. 14. Night markets

If this is your first trip to Thailand, you should definitely visit the night markets at least once. An unusual action takes place in Bangkok at night, when streets that are not noticeable during the day turn into noisy and busy numerous rows with counters. Huge boilers with a boiling brew appear, the smells of spices mix in the air, blankets unfold on the sidewalks with the most diverse things - from old radios to exquisite jewelry and antiques.

In all markets of Thailand, as in all crowded places, theft is thriving, so be extremely careful and do not put your wallets in the back pocket of your trouser or backpack.

If you come to Bangkok with children, then the best tour for children will be a visit to Siam Ocean World, the largest oceanarium in Thailand. But for adult visitors, it will seem impressive, especially if you are not a fan of watching fish while swimming in the sea. The oceanarium is divided into seven halls, each of which is dedicated to individual sea inhabitants, a hall with corals, an underwater reef, a rocky shore, an aquarium with jellyfish. By the way, the local inhabitants are not only fish, but also animals - otters, penguins, fur seals and turtles. The most spectacular hall is a glass tunnel, during the passage of which creates realistic sensations of a walk in the bowels of the ocean.

A ticket with a good discount can be bought online on the Siam Ocean World website in the Online Ticket section. It is better to come here on weekdays, otherwise on a day off you will have to lose a lot of time in the queue before entering. Of course, one week is not enough to visit all the sights in Bangkok, but if you correctly plan your route upon arrival, and my recommendations help you with this, the impression of the capital of Thailand will remain in your memory for a long time. I wish you all a productive and enjoyable holiday!

The city of Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and a wonderful place for lovers of independent travels, warm countries, exotic, historical sights, shopping and all kinds of entertainment. Personally, we are not fans of big and noisy cities, but this one is just head over heels in love. I’ve been to it so many times, and still, whenever possible, we come to it with pleasure and again, each time discovering something interesting and previously unknown there.

Of course, so much has been said on the Internet about Bangkok that every tourist who is planning to visit this city for the first time will easily find any information about it - how to get there, where are the best hotels and shopping, what sights to see and so on. But we, already having considerable experience traveling here, still would like to slightly supplement the available information.

View from the Golden Mountain Temple

And somewhere else, to expand them, because, to be honest, many stories about the Thai capital were written by people who have never been there, and, as a result, they contain a lot of general information (often false), but little specificity and details.

This page is conceived by us as a guide for tourists in Bangkok, there will be little information directly on it, and they will be brief. For more detailed practical information, click on the relevant links in the text.

Crocodile Temple

Bangkok has two airports and both are international:

 1. Suvarnabhumi (Bangkok International Airport Suvarnabhumi)
 2. Don Mueang (Don Mueang Bangkok International Airport)

Suvarnabhumi is today the main air gate of Thailand, it is here that tourists come from Europe and America, respectively, from Russia. Details of what to do and how to be upon arrival at this port: where and how to go through passport control, get luggage, change currency, take a taxi and more -. Instructions on how to get from the airport to Khaosan Road by bus for 60 baht. We recommend ordering a taxi online (if you need it this way) on this proven site -

Keep in mind, tuk-tuk is one of the most expensive modes of transport in Bangkok.

If you need to get from one airport to another right after arrival, then know that there are plenty of them, but you only need to know about two of them :

Don Mueang, or as it is more often called Don Mueang, is an old city airport; currently domestic flights and international flights are carried out from it across the Asian region.

In order to easily understand which airport your flight flies to (or flies), just take a look at your flight ticket or itinerary receipt. If it indicates BKK, then the port of Suvarnabhumi, if DMK, then Don Muang.

How to navigate in Bangkok

Often you can meet the advice - "be sure to bring a map of Bangkok with you." Or a related question - “Tell me, where can I find a map of Bangkok?”. Guys, what card? The 21st century is in the yard, and everyone has a smartphone in his pocket, and a tablet in his backpack. All you need is to download and install one of hundreds of applications with maps and navigators. Personally, we have been using the free Maps.Me application for several years and recommend it to you. Installed - and in your hands a magnificent, detailed navigator, working offline, knowing thousands of places, roads, paths and even forest paths.

Bangkok Hotels

Where to stay, so that it is inexpensive and near is everything I need? Probably, this question torments many who are traveling to this city for the first time. We will try to lighten these “torments of choice” a little. Hotels in Bangkok are the sea, but, by and large, tourists are better off choosing only between two areas:

 1. Silom (Silom) - maybe the name is not entirely accurate, because by it we mean not only the quarters of Silom (just this name is the most famous), but the "new" city, i.e. district of skyscrapers - we recommend it to those whose purpose is shopping, and who can not imagine relaxation without the entertainment of a modern metropolis.
 2. Khao San (Khao San) - in old Bangkok, within walking distance from the main attractions - the choice for those whose main goal is to get acquainted with historical attractions.

So, the first, Silom, is suitable for fans of megacities with their skyscrapers, shopping centers, restaurants and related entertainment. In this part of Bangkok, there are many modern hotels with excellent rooms and excellent service, although the price is appropriate.

Shilom conditional area on the map

Although, if you wish, you can always find any action and book a room with a good discount. Personally, we are looking for similar options on the discount page of RoomGuru.ru, where discounts reach up to 80%, on this one.

Inexpensive hotel with a balcony and city views

If you are a budget traveler who wants to see many historical sights of the old city, then keep in mind that you can get from the Silom district to the historical center (the Royal Palace and Khaosan Street) in just 11 baht. About how to do it.

 • The main disadvantage of living in this area is, on the whole, not budgetary and not so much because of the cost of hotels, but because the tourist infrastructure is poorly developed (basically you have to be content with the offers available in your hotel), plus the distance from the historical center.
 • The main plus is comfort, modern hotels with an appropriate range of services and facilities.

Well, for those who are not financially shy, or maybe for those who decide to “live at least one day in luxury”, the mega-cool Tower Club At lebua hotel is probably suitable.

 • Khaosan - by this concept we mean not only a specific Khao San Road, but a whole area located a 10-minute walk north of the Grand Royal Palace of Bangkok. This place is more democratic, both in price and in lifestyle.

Conventional area of Khaosan on the map

There is an opinion that mainly tourists with low income settle here, and hotels are all very cheap and of poor quality. This is fundamentally wrong, maybe it was once, but today you can find 4-star hotels here.

Another myth about this place is that there is always noise and din. Also a lie. In some places, it is so quiet and calm that in the morning you can enjoy the singing of birds and roosters. With our recommendations for hotels in this part of the city you can. Details of Khaosan Street and surrounding areas.

Here is a small selection of good hotels in the area.

Lovers of retro style, and not only for them, I think will not leave indifferent the very cozy and romantic Hotel Old Capital Bike Inn, decorated in a vintage style.

At the end of the "housing issue" of the Khaosan district, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with our map, which will help you better navigate and get comfortable in this wonderful place.

How to get from Bangkok

Almost all tourists have the Thai capital - an intermediate point on the way to a particular island or resort in Thailand, respectively, many are asking the question "how to get from Bangkok to ...". You can get answers to some of them by clicking on the name you are interested in:

 • To Samui
 • To Koh Phangan
 • Do Ko Tao
 • Do Ko Lanta

You can get to most of these places using inexpensive comfortable buses departing from the South bus station, but how to get to the bus station itself.

The general recommendation for those who stayed not in the new city, but in the old (in the vicinity of Khaosan) - do not worry and do not bother with buying tickets at bus stations, in the end, with trips to ticket offices and back will not be cheaper. You need to take tickets for at least one day, which means there are three rides (most likely by taxi), so consider it. In short, the advice is - buy tickets at agencies that are a dime a dozen. Personally, we have been doing just that for many years.

The algorithm is as follows:

 • we go around several nearby agencies (3-4) in order to find out the average cost for the direction we are interested in;
 • further, we turn to the one that we liked more;
 • be sure to bargain, bring down the price, if they do not want to lower the price - we go to another.

As a result, you can get a quite acceptable result, for example, this one - a Bangkok – Koh Phangan ticket (bus + ferry) for 650 baht per person. By the way, pay attention to the company carrier - Songserm, far from the smallest and most well-known.

Ticket price (bus + ferry) Bangkok - Phangan for two people

We know that there are allegations on the Internet - “there are all scammers on Kaosan, don’t buy tickets there!” What do you say? It's simple - be prudent, if you are offered tickets at a price very different from the average - think about it. In general, reputable carriers have been working here for a long time, and thousands of tourists are transported daily and safely.

Another way to avoid unnecessary costs is to purchase tickets online through the site. Personally, we use it too. Of course, there are some nuances and you can’t bargain, but overall it’s convenient with a wide selection of options, both in cost and by mode of transport.

Bangkok River Transport

River transport of the capital is a great help to an independent traveler, it is very convenient and inexpensive. With it, you can quickly and cheaply get to many interesting places. About him, too, more than once said on other sites, but personally, we have not seen on any of them full information that tells about all its subtleties and nuances, but they are available. In short, if anyone needs detailed instructions and a story about what, where and how - click here.

Bangkok's public river transport is very affordable at prices ranging from 5 to 20 baht. For example, from Khaosan Street to the Siloma district can be reached in just 11 baht. How? Read on this page.

Bangkok Attractions

Bangkok is a storehouse of interesting places for an inquisitive tourist. You can visit this city dozens of times and each time you can find something new and unusual in it. We’ll talk about its main sights, such as the Grand Royal Palace, the Temple of the Reclining and Emerald Buddha, the temple of the Morning Dawn and the Golden Mountain, because finding information about them is easy, we’ll start better from little-known places that, believe me, are not inferior to " promoted celebrities, ”or even surpass them.

Iron temple

Although no, let's start with a detailed description of the Bangkok route, designed for two days (1st on the main attractions, 2nd on the little-known) - here it is. Now, in fact, we list some little-known sights located in the historical part of the city (for more information, click on the appropriate name or link):

 • Turtle Temple and Wat Prayon Stupa - a wonderful place of relaxation in the center of a hot metropolis and a magnificent huge, snow-white Buddhist stupa.
 • Temples: Wat Intharawihan - the largest statue of a standing Buddha in Bangkok, Wat Noranarth Soontarikaram, Thais call it the temple of the "happy Buddha", Wat Bowonniwet - a beautiful and somewhat unusual temple within a 5-minute walk from Khaosan Street, you can talk about them
 • Temples: Wat Mahathat Yuwarat Rang Sa Rit Racha Woramahawihan - an international meditation center next to the Grand Royal Palace and Chanasongkhram Ratchaworamahawihan - a beautiful temple located right at the end of Khaosan Street, about them.
 • Amulets market - you should definitely look at it, especially since it is located just a 5-minute walk from the Grand Royal Palace of Bangkok and you can find here countless all kinds of inexpensive and original souvenirs.
 • Crocodile Temple Wat Chakrawat is an interesting temple located in Bangkok's Chinatown, the monks of which keep and care for several crocodiles.
 • Temple of the Golden Mount (Wat Saketand the Golden Mount) - unlike the above, can not be called little known, but it is one of our favorite places in Bangkok, we love to visit it in the evening and enjoy the sunset and panoramas of the night city.
 • Chinatown.
 • Temple of the Golden Buddha.
 • Temple Wat Ratchanadda.
 • Koh Kret Island is a potters island and a favorite place for Thais to rest north of Bangkok on the Chao Phraya River.

ChanasongkhramRatchaworamahawihan Temple is literally 20 meters from Khaosan Street. Very beautiful and at the same time almost unknown to tourists

Of the many parks in the city, we distinguish two:

 • Lumphini (Lumphini) - perhaps the most famous among tourists. He gained wide fame thanks to the giant monitor lizards living on its territory.
 • Chatuchak is, in our opinion, the most beautiful and interesting. Much more and more diverse than the previous one, and the monitor lizards in it are even larger. It also has an outdoor pool and butterfly garden.

The location of some of Bangkok's most interesting sights can be seen on the map below. For a brief information about the place you are interested in, click on the corresponding icon on the map.

Food in bangkok

In our opinion, food in Bangkok and in Thailand as a whole is not just a meal, but some kind of national idea, cultivated. Often the impression is created that everyone eats here and everywhere, continuously 24 hours a day. Oh, about what, about what, but about what and where to eat in Bangkok, do not worry.

The cost of fish is from 10 baht. One of the many trays in the Khaosan area

As soon as you leave your room, you will find hundreds of various food outlets at your service, ranging from cheap street macaroons, where you can gobble up for 30-40 baht and end up with expensive restaurants.

Rambuttree evening

If anyone needs or is just interested, then an example and description of how cheap, tasty and nutritious you can eat in Thailand,.

Rice in pineapple with seafood - 150 baht

Here is a photo of the price page of one of the tourist restaurants on Khaosan.

Let's just say that these are average prices in tourist restaurants of the Khaosan region

This menu is exactly a tourist place, in Thai eateries about half the price.

Shopping in Bangkok

First, two words about money. It is not surprising, but many people are wondering - what currency is better to go with? The answer is - with dollars or euros, in large bills (small banknotes change at a more unfavorable rate). Yes, here's another - rubles can be exchanged, but not everywhere and at a very low rate.

About currency exchange - where to change? There are many exchange offices and banks. In the Khaosan area - by the rampart, on every corner, in the Lumpini area - much less, but there will be no problems.

About the exchange rate - we don’t know who how, but we have long realized for ourselves that it makes no sense to rush around the city in search of a better rate. Gone are the days when the exchange rate difference was significant, at the moment, on average, it is practically not noticeable. So, do not worry - change in the nearest exchanger, and it is better to spend the time saved on impressions.

A little advice - do not change money from street money changers (they are found now). The price they offer is sometimes very tempting, but it should alert you.

Which is better - cash or credit card? Both that and another, but if you are a budget traveler and do not want to significantly overpay - prefer cash.

Bill 20 baht

The shops

There are no less shops in Bangkok than cafes and restaurants, they are everywhere and, what is wonderful, there are streets and even entire neighborhoods where they sell certain goods. Suppose you need to buy electronics - you go to a certain area and find dozens of shops and stores selling these types of goods. Need auto parts - you go to another, plumbing - the next, fabrics - thousands of colors are waiting for you in the relevant area, etc. Very comfortably. But where you need to sell what, of course, you need to know.

Jewelry in the Indian Quarter

If you are an ordinary tourist who wants to shop a little, you can go to the shopping centers of the new city. The prices here are certainly much higher, but a lot of quite inexpensive things. And if you come across some kind of sale, you can get great things very cheap. For example, these jeans are just 300 baht.

Markets

Personally, we prefer to bargain in the markets of Bangkok. Their advantages, unlike stores, are as follows:

 • more choice of goods;
 • lower prices initially;
 • with the ability to bargain, you can achieve significant discounts, sometimes at times from the original price.

From our personal practice, we can notice that in Silom and on Khaosan, the best time for shopping is late evening, at this time it is much easier to negotiate discounts.

Security in bangkok

In our opinion, Bangkok today is one of the safest and most friendly cities in Asia. The overwhelming majority of the local population is always happy for visitors and are ready to provide them with any possible help and support. However, one should not forget that this is a huge modern metropolis that attracts a variety of people and not always the best as a magnet. In order to protect ourselves and to protect as much as possible from potential troubles, we personally can recommend the following:

 • The main thing is to respect other people's customs and culture, behave and dress accordingly to these customs and traditions.

Always remain polite, and most importantly calm, try to keep yourself in control in any situation, in no case be rude or raise your voice. You know, for a Thai, a screaming, outraged person who does not know how to calmly discuss and solve a problem does not deserve any respect at all.

Respect the local population and treat them as equals. If you consider yourself superior to them, you are simply a narrow-minded and uncultured person, to whom such disrespect will return as a boomerang, with all the ensuing “charms” and “bonuses”.

Do not abuse alcohol, especially in the evening, while outdoors. Going to this or that vicious place, it’s foolish to count on the locals waiting for you there just to entertain, amuse and in every way please. No, their main task in this case is to milk the maximum amount of dough from you. Yes, here's another - you should not judge the strength of the Thais by their physique, often a feeble little guy can easily properly lay a decent “closet”. In addition, if you decide to fight, "puny guys" against you, there may be more than one.

If one of the locals suggested you buy drugs (in Bangkok it is not uncommon), at least the same anasha, you should know that in Thailand they can be punished very severely for their use and distribution. Before you agree, think carefully about whether you want to sit for several years in a Thai prison?

But, we repeat - there is no need to be afraid, it is very safe here. The main source of possible trouble is you and your behavior. Be prudent and cultured, and then with a confidence of 99%, we can say that troubles will bypass you.

Bangkok is a wonderful city!

updated: January 26, 2019 Posted by: Sergei

Bangkok is a city of noise, the smell of food and openwork temples. Thais speak weak English, turning into sign language. Not to say that the country of smiles, but several passers-by (even one student), smiled, catching my eye.

Local humidity and cloudiness give rise to a desire to drink all kinds of soft drinks, but there is plenty to choose from! You can try local noodles, fried with everything, fried insects, banana pancakes and a lot, a lot of everything. On the popular shopping an endless stream of tourists, clothes and portable eateries. Near the temples and museums of the army of Chinese amateur enthusiasts, on ordinary streets there are cafes for the local population and shops. Almost nowhere to find silence, the city hisses and bubbles.

Bangkok: how to get there by plane

The main, as well as the largest and most crowded airport of the capital of Thailand, Bangkok, called Suvarnabhumi (BKK) Suvarnabhumi, is located in the east of the city with easy access to the center of Bangkok. This is not just one of the coolest transport hubs in the world, it really looks like you were in a sci-fi movie. In fact, Bangkok International Airport has such a unique design that in 2012 it became the most photographed place in the world on Instagram. Everyone wants a photo from Thailand's main airport, Suvarnabhumi, in its long tubular corridors made of glass and steel (and I also have them, by the way). About 50 million tourists travel through Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok annually. The international airport of the capital of Thailand Bangkok is located 25 km outside the city, but it is easy to get to the center of Bangkok from it, either by train, by bus, or by taxi. However, keep in mind that during rush hour there will be traffic jams.

Bangkok: Arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport

Passengers traveling with transfers in Bangkok will need to go to checkpoints located on the same floor of Bangkok Airport. If you have many hours of free time until your next flight and have a desire to sleep, go to the fourth floor in Louis Tavern Dayrooms, located in zone G. For the time you will have to pay 2,200-2,400 baht every four hours. All departures at Bangkok Airport are registered at airline desks located on the fourth floor of the departure terminal. Check-in for domestic flights takes place in zones B and C. Zone A is for Thai Airways ’Royal First Class and Royal Silk. Zones of international flights - from D to W. You must arrive at the airport 2 hours before departure of international flights and 1.2 hours before departure of flights in Thailand.

Internet access: there is free internet at the airport, but the session is limited to 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, a fee will be charged.

Bangkok: how to get from the airport to the center

There are several ways, the easiest of which is to catch the train connecting the upper metro and the lower metro (BTS and MRT). The train runs from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m., the journey takes about half an hour, and costs only 45 baht ($ 1.50) per trip.

If your hotel is far from the train line, you can also take a taxi or take the bus. All taxis are equipped with meters, the average cost is 400 - 600 baht ($ 12 - $ 18) to the center of Bangkok. If you are not afraid and there is not a lot of luggage, you can take a public bus for 45 baht. The summer calculation in Thailand is 543 years ahead, that is, when in the rest of the world the year 2015, then in Thailand it is 2558. So do not be surprised to look at local dates.

Mo chit bus station The bus station provides routes to the northern cities of Thailand. The bus station is located in northern Bangkok, not far from the Mo Chit BTS Station, but it’s best to take a taxi from there. The traffic in this area is crazy in the evening and morning. When traveling by bus, plan your trips in advance, as traffic jams take up a lot of time.

Sai tai mai bus station bus station serving southern Thailand. The station is quite far from the center of Bangkok and it may take an hour to get there by taxi or bus.

Night life

Bangkok's nightlife thrives almost every night of the week, and it’s never boring there. There are several main areas of nightlife, including Khaosan Road, Silom, Ratchada, and Sukhumvit.

Bars and clubs

It so happened that we are looking forward to our every vacation. Naturally, I would like to have it meaningfully and, at the same time, have a good rest, gaining impressions for the whole year. In this article, I want to give some advice to lovers of Thailand, as well as to those people who do not like to use the services of travel agencies, but plan independent trips to Bangkok (). This type of vacation has a lot of advantages! By the way, if you are advised to read about all the advantages of this type of relaxation.

An independent trip, in my opinion, should start from Bangkok. Let this city become your country's visiting card. I will not be mistaken if I say that the sights in Bangkok are waiting for their guests at every step. The city is visited with pleasure by both organized groups of tourists and those who like to travel independently.

To get to Bangkok on your own, you need to buy a ticket to (read about it in a separate article). To do this, we either go to the airport of your city or purchase it via the Internet (commission is possible). We make a reservation that travel agencies charge more for air tickets than they cost at the box office. Saving is always nice (almost :))! And don't worry about. It will give you at the airport in Bangkok, most importantly, do not forget to fill out the plane.

By the way, it is advisable to worry about accommodation in advance and book a hotel on sites or at home. But if you haven’t done this, don’t be upset. Firstly, Bangkok is full of private owners and guesthouses, where you can, saving money on a hotel, rent a house (more about and). Secondly, directly in the building of the Suvarnabhumi Airport there is a service that selects hotels for arriving tourists. Make a choice at a hotel suitable for you and begin your journey!

A selection of the best hotels in Bangkok

Having settled in the hotel, then you will want to explore everything bangkok sights on their own. The hotel staff will kindly help you get anywhere in the city. Relax - everyone here is so kind and helpful that, believe me, there’s nothing to worry about.

Start your independent travel to Bangkok from visiting the Royal Palace. This 18th-century building can be called the pearl of Bangkok. If you are lucky, you will see an official ceremony in which royal people will take part. Ceremonies are not uncommon here.

If you are not very tired after visiting the Royal Palace, then your path can continue straight to the national museum. It is located within walking distance of the palace. There are so many temples and museums in Thailand that they can make you dizzy. Soak up - you have arrived in a country of unique culture.

Arriving to Bangkok alone, you can travel it freely, without restricting yourself to a mandatory program. Use buses actively (you can buy tickets for them on the website), or tuk-tuki. But if you don’t like these modes of transport, you can rent a bike (more about the correct one). Just be careful, observe, because in which case, the tourist will be to blame!

Bangkok has a separate conversation about nightlife. This is an eternal show, for those who are over 18. Do not forget to try it for yourself (more about all), you will not regret it. Very, you know, invigorates!

VIDEO: The beauties of night Bangkok

“Big Mango” is a city of contrasts, and several hours will be more than enough for you to feel it. In love with this city, as the last time, and this city is hated with all my heart. Here, as you know, angels live and all vices known to mankind, they spend hours in traffic jams, side by side, limited “Ferari” and carts of “macaques”, here skyscrapers rest against the clouds, and in the neighborhood grimy children play in slums. It is Bangkok that gives the opportunity to "understand" Asia, real, and without tourist embellishments.
Bangkok is a city more often for tourists than tourists (and few people want to spend their well-deserved holidays in the concrete jungle with constant +37). What to do when time is short, but you want to see a lot? One of the first and perhaps the most useful advice for travelers - if you value your time (and often nerves) - choose hotels in the city center. The ideal location is Khaosan Road, but alas, it is not suitable for everyone. And yet, if you are young and open to adventure, feel free to look for the hotel here, because Khaosan is a cult center of nightlife for tourists and backpackers from around the world. Plus, it’s convenient to get to all places marked “must see” from here.
No matter how hard it may seem (especially after a noisy and fun night on Khaosan Road) - you have to get up early! It is ideal to hit the road already at 09.00 in the morning, and start your day with the Royal Palace. The ticket costs 500 baht (the ticket should be saved after the visit. If you still have the strength, you can also use one of the city’s most interesting museums on the same day, the Museum of Royal Gifts). A dazzlingly beautiful place where you want to wander looking at the details endlessly. Alas, besides you there will be another hundred of those who wish, so you should not linger in the palace. At the palace, be sure to check out the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew).
Exactly three minutes walk is the Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho). For the entrance ticket you will have to pay another 200 Thai baht. This temple, in addition to its amazing beauty, is also famous for the Thai massage academy. It is important to remember - massage should be on the territory of the temple! Look for the sign “Thai Massage” and enjoy. Have a rest? It's time to continue our journey! Literally 150 meters from the temple is a pier, which you must get to cross to another truly magnificent temple complex Wat Arun. Ferry will cost only 4 baht. The Temple of the Morning Dawn is the oldest stupa 72 meters high, which you can climb onto. Ticket price 50 baht.
In order to take a break from the rich cultural program, we recommend going straight from the temple to the holy of holies of Asian shopping - Siam! To do this, on the same ferry again cross over to the opposite bank of the Chao Pray River and catch taxis here. When communicating with agile Thai drivers, always remember two points: the destination and password are “Tex Meter” (which means 35 baht for landing and then 3 baht per kilometer, which, believe me, is very cheap). So Siam - Remember! - these are three huge shopping centers where there is literally everything: there is also a "luxury" segment and boutiques of young Thai designers, here they sell "Bentley" and plastic toys for kids, there are niche perfumes and cheap Thai cosmetics. One of the most beautiful aquariums in Asia is located here, the ticket price is from 900 baht. And do not forget to go to the information desk where you can get a set of discount cards for tourists for free.
Well, you can finish this eventful day royally! The city of skyscrapers is much more interesting to consider "from above". Go to the world-famous Bayok Sky hotel, where from the 84th floor you can sip your favorite cocktail and enjoy the sunset and the endless “breath” of the city of Angels. It’s better to catch here before 5.30 p.m. - as it gets dark early in Asia. For 400 baht you get an entrance ticket to the observation deck and one free cocktail in the bar, and for 1200 baht you can dine on the 78th floor in a panoramic restaurant (buffet). And some useful information:

 • In Bangkok, it is recommended that you always have your ID with you. You will need it when buying tickets to temples, when exchanging currency, or when filling out documents for VAT refund.
 • Frank clothes are not accepted in the capital, so choose light and most comfortable clothes and shoes (you will have to walk a lot). The temples must have closed shoulders and closed knees. Do not forget about sun protection.
 • All taxis are convenient and safe, do not be embarrassed if the taxi driver refuses to take you - he probably is simply not on the way - feel free to stop another car. But tuk-tuki, although they look colorful, it’s better to bypass it. Most likely you will be given a very high price, and besides this, they can still ride through the "hot" places.
