But besides the standard hotel beaches, there are several more Mexican beaches known throughout the world. These are beaches on the Caribbean coast and on the Pacific coast. Among the beaches of the Caribbean, perhaps the most popular are the beaches of Cancun and Riviera Maya. Caribbean beaches are protected by a strip of reefs, so the water there is calm, clean, the bottom and beaches are covered with fine white sand - ideal for families with children.

The most famous among the beaches of the Riviera Maya is Maroma beach. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Stretches south of Cancun Puerto Morelos beach, on which a fishing village is located. This place is one of a small number of untouched beaches in the Riviera Maya. The beach attracts many divers from all over the world who come to appreciate the beauty and richness of the underwater world. A wide strip of reefs, located just half a kilometer from the coast, reliably protects the coastal zone from storms and high waves. In the state of Quintana Roo there is not a single reef strip located so close to the shores. Therefore, diving in this place is absolutely safe. In the late 90s, these reefs were declared part of the National Marine Park.

On the Pacific coast, perhaps the most famous is, one of the ten best beaches in Mexico. The beach is unique in that on one side it is washed by the waters of the Sea of Cortez, and on the other side by the Pacific Ocean. The beach is located near the town of Cabo San Lucas. A large number of vacationers visit this beach every day; it can hardly be called a calm, secluded place.

Mexico is attractive for its amazingly beautiful beaches. Active recreation, underwater and water sports, family picnics, savage holidays, mysterious ruins and breathtaking landscapes are what you can see on the Mexican coast. Along the coastline washed by the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of California, there are half a thousand unique beaches.

The uniqueness of choosing a beach in Mexico for a suitable holiday is that they are all very diverse due to their unique natural topography and rock formations. Some beaches are remote and surrounded by lush green jungle and ancient ruins of local tribes, others are endless sandy beaches with soft sand and calm waters that are ideal for swimming, and there are also “secret” beaches ideal for outdoor activities: surfing, diving and snorkeling.

Beaches of Tulum

Famous for the rich history of the ancient Mayan tribe, it attracts many antiquity lovers. The remains of ruins from their buildings dating back to the 13th century found here create a special natural relief of these places. The beaches of Tulum are the perfect destination for all history buffs. It is not difficult to get here, since the journey from the popular resort of Cancun takes only 2 hours.

The beach shore is white soft sand. Here you can find some shade as numerous palm trees grow under the edge of the beach. Next to the beach on the shore there are natural caster lakes with fresh water, where you can refresh yourself after the salty sea waters. On the first line of the coast there are comfortable hotels where you can book accommodation.

If vacationers want to truly relax and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city, Tulum and its beaches are an excellent place for a secluded holiday.

Akumal Beach

Akumal Beach is a great place to see sea turtles. The name of the beach translates as “turtle place.” The fact is that the beach is a favorite place for sea turtles, which come ashore and lay eggs. Scuba diving at Akumal Beach is a must for lovers of underwater excursions and acquaintance with coral reefs and their inhabitants.

Akumal Beach is ideal for families with children, since the shore and bottom are clean and not rocky, and you can easily find a secluded place here, even on weekends.

The beach is located just 5 km south of Zihuatanejo. This white sand beach is named after the baleen nurse sharks that have long inhabited these waters.

It's not easy to get to, which is why this beach is a favorite destination for those looking for lesser-known attractions and places to relax. There are only two to get here. Savage vacationers most often choose the route of a winding, steep path that goes down to the beach.

Those who relax comfortably can rent a motor boat. Scuba diving enthusiasts can try diving in the rocks off the shore of the bay.

For those who are hungry, there are several restaurants on the beach that serve delicious seafood. The best shrimp can be found in the restaurant – Otilia. Local attractions include a lighthouse next to the beach, offering breathtaking views of the coastline and cliffs.

World Famous Beaches of Cancun

The most popular place is Cancun Beach. The 22.5 km long beach is a pristine stretch of white sand and crystal clear turquoise waters. For the Mayan tribes, this place was part of life and worship of the mysterious gods. Numerous ancient buildings that have become famous attractions allow us to come to this conclusion.

Off the beach lies an amazing coral reef, ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving. Vacationers can also go kayaking, fishing or kayaking.

Attractive hotels are lined along the coastline, and the hotels have several restaurants with outdoor terraces where visitors can try a variety of Mexican cuisine. Cancun Beach can be compared to Las Vegas stretching along the beach due to the huge amount of entertainment, resorts and luxury hotels.

Beaches of Puerto Vallarta Beach

This place has an ideal tropical climate. For a fun day at the beach, Puerto Vallarta offers a variety of water activities:

  • boat trips;
  • snorkeling;
  • yachting;
  • fishing.

Protected coves are ideal for scuba diving, while deep-sea fishing and whale watching provide unforgettable holiday experiences.

Coming here means getting the perfect holiday, because you can get to know a new city, explore its originality and relax in pure nature.

Fabulous Playa Norte beach on the island of women

The main beach on the island is Playa Norte. It is famous for its clear waters and sparkling white sand.

Families with children love this beach very much because its waters are calm and the bottom is clean, which allows them to relax safely without causing injury. Vacationers will find a wide selection of restaurants, beach bars and accommodation options in this resort area.

Playa Norte is definitely one of the most beautiful beaches, but it can get very crowded on weekends. Therefore, the recommended time to visit is early morning and weekdays.

Xpu Ha Beach is a unique gem of the Riviera Maya. It is located south of Puerto Aventuras and attracts mainly locals. This amazing beach is not too crowded even during the peak tourist season, making it an ideal destination for travelers hoping to find some peace and quiet during the summer holidays.

Regular yoga classes are held on the beach. Also, everyone who wants to have an active time can join the beach to play football or beach volleyball with local residents. Water sports are also popular here, including fishing, kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving.

For those looking to grab a bite to eat, local vendors line the beach offering refreshing drinks and seafood.

Zipolite Beach for hippie travelers

Zipolite

Zipolite was a favorite hippie spot from the 1960s to the 1980s. It was a center of relaxation, fun and a variety of youth activities. Hippie travelers from all over the world came here. This beach was also one of the first wild places for recreation, camping and tent camps. Nudists also loved to relax here.

Today, Zipolite Beach attracts fewer hippies, but everyone who loves yoga and surfing still gathers here.

There are budget hotels along the beach that offer a great getaway on a budget, but there are also several luxury hotels and trendy restaurants on the western side.

Famous Playa del Amor

Playa del Amor is one of the most famous beaches in Mexico. It is easily accessible by boat from the marina in Cabo San Lucas.

Playa del Amor is also known as “Lover’s Beach” because it is known for its romantic setting.

The beach is subject to frequent Pacific tides, so it is recommended to enter the water only in the Bahia de Cabo San Lucas area. The Cortez side of Playa del Amor is ideal for snorkeling and attracts mainly locals and scuba diving enthusiasts. Although getting here is not easy, the relaxation and experience of this pleasant and cozy beach is definitely worth any effort.

Ideal beach for swimming Playa de Tecolote

One of the busiest beaches in La Paz is Playa de Tecolote. It is an ideal beach for swimming. It offers stunning views of the uninhabited island of Espiritu Santo.

Local beach vendors offer specialties such as marlin en escabeche and chocolate clams.

While Playa de Tecolot may not be as popular as nearby Balandra Beach, it provides its own unique beach experience. Basic amenities including showers and toilets can be found here. If you want to order a full dinner, you can go to the El Tecolote bar-restaurant, where orders are provided with an extensive menu of fresh seafood and gourmet dishes from them.

Bahia Balandra

The beach is located in the Baja La Paz region, known for its rocky terrain. The largest rock is called Diamond Rock. The beach is protected by a natural bay on all sides, which makes the sea waters around it completely safe, and the underwater reefs attractive to many underwater inhabitants. Therefore, snorkelers can spend an unforgettable time here.

Although the waters of Bahina Balandra belong to the cold Pacific current, the water warms up well thanks to direct sunlight. Therefore, in shallow water and on the surface it is ideal for comfortable swimming.

There are no beach facilities on the shore, making Bahía Balandra a less crowded beach than its neighbors. Therefore, here you can find a calm and quiet holiday in the middle of nowhere, away from the noisy fun.

One of the best beaches in the Riviera Maya is Playa Maroma. According to surveys, this beach is one of the ten best beaches in the world.

The beach stretches for 6 km and is part of the Catalonia all-inclusive resort. Gentle waters and fine soft sand provide a comfortable stay and the opportunity to completely relax and immerse yourself in relaxation. The beach is ideal for swimming and looks as beautiful as if it came straight out of the pages of glossy magazines.

The only drawback to Playa Maroma is the lack of budget accommodation options. Here you can find only luxury villas and boutique hotels.

Ziggy Beach

The resort is located in the Riviera Maya - this is a very popular place for both partygoers and those who want to get closer to nature. The underwater reef is home to hundreds of species of fish and arthropods. It is this colorful and diverse flora and fauna that attracts those who want to learn about what lies beneath the surface of the gentle waters.

The shore is divided into two separate sections of the beach. One area belongs to the beach club - Ziggy Beach Club, and the other part of the beach is open to the public.

Ziggy Beach is also famous for its many water sports:

  • padding;
  • kayaking;
  • sailing;
  • water skiing.

The beach has developed infrastructure:

  • shops for renting sports equipment;
  • cafe;
  • boutiques;
  • restaurants;
  • night club.

This is a sandy-limestone beach, so it is not very comfortable to walk barefoot here. Due to the fact that you need to wear shoes on the beach, many vacationers tend to avoid this place. That's why there are quite a few people here.

However, for those who are not looking for easy ways and do not feel inconvenienced by the need to take shoes with them, the beach reveals its attractive sides and is ready to give an unforgettable experience.

The fascinating coral garden is a real paradise for scuba divers and snorkelers. Paamul Beach has several bars, shops and restaurants, as well as a public swimming pool, for those who want to cool off in the fresh water and avoid the, for many, unpleasant, scratchy sand.

Isla Holbeck

Isla Holbox is a small island located just three hours from Cancun. Some call it the Yutacan Peninsula's best-kept secret due to its deserted beaches, laid-back atmosphere and shallow waters.

There are not many ways to get here, and the island itself has not yet been greatly exploited for commercial purposes. This is certainly great news for visitors looking for an unforgettable experience in this unspoiled place of peace and quiet. Most of the beaches on the island are ideal for swimming in calm waters. The sandy shore with cute shells creates an unusual natural landscape.

Therefore, all connoisseurs of a relaxing holiday or those who want to relax in tents can experience the charm of these places and majestic landscapes.

This is a continuation of the article.

  • Beaches 1-9 km differ significantly from each other. More or less good sea starts from 4.5 km. It gets really good at 8 km.
  • A distinctive feature of these beaches is that there are no waves on them, the water is calm, with virtually no current, so this part of the coast is “covered” by the Island of Women. They are suitable for a relaxing family holiday and holidays with children. There are many places where it is very shallow. For those who want a drive, it will most likely be boring here.
  • The best, in my opinion, beach in Cancun for 1-9 km is Caracol.
  • In order to eat, you will most likely have to go out onto the road, since shops and cafe-restaurants are located along Kukulkan Boulevard. Finding something like this on the beach is a big problem. Throughout all the kilometers there are only a few places (for example, a patch between the beaches of Pes Valador and Tortuga) where you can have lunch or just have a snack. Due to the almost complete absence of shops, you will definitely have to take water with you, otherwise you risk “dying of thirst.”
  • Don't forget about sunscreen! Walking along the beaches, it may seem that it is not very hot, since a pleasant breeze from the sea constantly blows. This feeling is deceptive: the sun is very persistent, plus it reflects well from the white sand - you can get burned and not notice.
  • Masks and tubes are unlikely to be useful. There is nothing to see in the sea. Of the living creatures, only a couple of small schools of fish were seen and that was all.
  • In some places it is problematic to get to the beaches from Kukulkan Boulevard - almost all hotels do not allow entry (they ask to show the bracelets and, seeing that they are not there, they offer to go to the exit). If you slip through, it will most likely be by accident and due to an oversight of the staff. You can get to the beaches along public paths, which are not as common as we would like.
  • If you see flags on the beach, know:
    • green - you can safely swim
    • yellow - you can swim, but with caution
    • red - swimming is prohibited

Bored without waves? Then welcome to the “fun” beaches of Cancun with waves!

In general, if you are in Cancun or going there, I recommend walking along the beaches yourself, seeing them and comparing them. Even if you don’t like some of them, this will be your personal opinion and impression, which may differ from ours.

Enjoy your swims on the beaches of Cancun, dear readers!

How to get to Cancun beaches from the city

City buses run from the city of Cancun to the Hotelera zone; you will recognize them by the large inscription HOTELES or PLAYAS. Buses also have an even larger letter R, followed by a route number, for example R-2 (we rode this bus). The fare costs 9.50 pesos, regardless of the distance you plan to travel. The driver stops only upon request or at stops where there are many people standing. So if you want to go out in a certain meta, press the button with the bell, which you will find on the handrail.

There are also gazelle minibuses with the same letters R. They follow the bus routes.

If you don’t like public transport, you can always use a taxi, whatever, and Cancun has plenty of this goodness. Just be prepared that they will quote you an initially inflated tourist price for travel.

How to navigate between beaches

You can move between the beaches on foot, if you want to take a walk, or on the same buses, code-named R. Just go out onto the road, as soon as you see the bus approaching, wave to it, it stops and takes you wherever you want (within the route, of course ). Even for covering a distance of 100 meters you will have to pay the same 9.50 pesos

One of the most bustling, developed, fashionable and popular resorts in Latin America, Cancun is a sand dune in the shape of the number “7”, separated from the mainland by a lagoon and two narrow canals. Forty years ago, only a few knew about the existence of a stretch of land (21 km long and just over half a kilometer wide), but after the opening of the first hotels and an international airport in 1974, the coastal infrastructure began to grow rapidly, and by the 90s Cancun has grown into the largest resort in the Caribbean.
Tourists can enjoy many restaurants where they can taste dishes from all over the world, more than 2,000 shops, large shopping centers and souvenir shops, SPA centers and golf courses, water sports and diving centers, exciting discos and fashionable clubs, beach parties and concerts. world-class stars. The unique location and stunning white sand beaches allow visitors to Cancun to combine a beach holiday with excursions to Mayan ruins. In addition, from Cancun you can go on a boat trip on a yacht or catamaran, on a fishing or diving tour, on an excursion to the unique underwater sculpture museum or to the Island of Women. One of the most important resort centers in Yucatan is located 60 km south of Cancun. A few decades ago, Playa del Carmen was no different from a dozen charming but sleepy fishing villages on the Mexican Riviera. However, over time, divers began to arrive at local piers to take the ferry to the island of Cozumel. The beauty of the coast did not go unnoticed; more and more tourists stayed here to enjoy the serene beaches after the bustling Cancun, and today Playa del Carmen is one of the most popular resorts in Mexico.
The main attraction of the resort is the pedestrian street Fifth Avenue. There are many restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, shops, discos and other entertainment venues. In the evening, dancers and musicians gather on Fifth Avenue and put on spectacular shows for tourists. The resort is located 50 kilometers south of Cancun. Many of the Riviera Maya's beaches are considered some of the most beautiful in the world. The coastline, once dotted with sleepy fishing villages, still retains its tropical charm, but today there are numerous hotels built here, from small tropical bungalows right on the sea's edge to huge resort hotels. But, unlike the noisy, never-sleeping Cancun, the Riviera Maya has an atmosphere of calm and complete harmony with nature. You can relax here all year round: the winter months are characterized by sunny, mild weather, and July and August are considered the hottest and wettest months.
A holiday at the resort is ideal for those who are looking for maximum comfort combined with pristine nature and the opportunity to make excursions to Mayan ruins. Near the Riviera Maya are the Xcaret amusement park and the Xel Ha natural water park. In addition, tourists can visit the extreme adventure parks Explor and Selvatika.
The Riviera Maya is famous for the world's largest system of underground rivers and cenotes in the jungle and on the coast, of which there are about a hundred. The network of underground reservoirs of the Yucatan Peninsula has not been fully explored. Until now, scientists are discovering new rivers and caves that attract spelunking divers. A fishing village with hotel infrastructure (15 km south of Cancun International Airport, 36 km north of Playa del Carmen). Here you can spend carefree holidays with a bohemian touch: several artists, writers and artisans have settled in Puerto Morelos. Near the resort is the Crocotun crocodile farm, Botanical Gardens, a marine park with impressive coral formations, schools of tropical fish, dolphins, turtles, etc. In ancient times, Tulum was an important Mayan defensive and trading city, located right on the shores of the Caribbean Sea. Among the buildings of the city, the fortress stands out - the tallest building in Tulum (from the top of the building a breathtaking panorama of the sea and coast opens), the central square where important ceremonies were held, the Temple of the Descending God, the Temple of Frescoes, the Temple of the God of the Winds, considered one of the incarnations of the god Kukulkan, and many others. Tulum is also famous for its cenotes (natural wells), which have supplied clean water to local residents for thousands of years, and its snow-white beaches. The mysterious Island of Women (Isla Mujeres), steeped in ancient Indian legends, is located 8 km from bustling Cancun. You can get there by ferry in just 30 minutes.
Beautiful beaches, the turquoise Caribbean Sea, dense tropical bushes, numerous narrow streets with colorful houses and souvenir shops, ruins and the historical heritage of the Indians, endless opportunities for lovers of snorkeling and diving (this is where the world-famous underwater sculpture museum and a wonderful dolphinarium are located) - you will find all this on an amazing small island. Cozumel is one of the largest islands in Mexico, it is located 20 km from the resort of Playa del Carmen. You can get here by ferry in 45-50 minutes or by small plane. Cozumel is a real mecca for divers, because the second largest barrier reef in the world is very close by. The main activities here are snorkeling and diving.
Also on the island of Cozumel, you can explore numerous deserted beaches of extraordinary beauty that fascinate even experienced travelers. Fans of excursions can visit national parks, a dolphinarium, the ruins of ancient Indian settlements, the island’s museum, and also stroll through the souvenir and jewelry shops of the local capital, the city of San Miguel.
