The Faroe Islands, although they belong to Denmark, have the status of an autonomous territory that is not part of Schengen. For this reason, to enter here you need to apply for a national visa. However, visas are still issued on Danish terms through the consulates and visa centers of this country.

  • The validity period of a passport for obtaining a visa and for entering the country - is there a difference?

To obtain a visa to the Faroe Islands, the passport must be valid for at least three months after the visa expires. To enter the country, the passport must be valid for another 3 months after the end of the trip.

  • Is it possible to enter the country if a valid visa is in an already invalid passport?

No, you need to transfer your visa to your new passport.

  • Documents you should pay special attention to when applying for a visa

Particular attention should be paid to hotel reservations. It must list all persons who are requesting a visa.

No less important documents are medical insurance (it must be valid for 15 days longer than the planned trip) and a certificate from work. In the latter, you must indicate not only the salary and position, but also the length of service, as well as information that the tourist is granted leave with job protection at the time of the trip.

  • What documents can increase your chance of getting a visa?

The consular department of the Danish Embassy is more willing to accept applications not from independent travelers, but from tourists who have purchased a tour from agencies accredited by the embassy. However, no one can prevent you from planning and carrying out an independent trip, but in this case, the visa application may take longer to process, since the request is sent directly to the Faroe Islands immigration service, and is not decided, as is the case with a Danish visa, directly at the consulate.

  • Where can I find a complete list of visa documents?

A list of documents, as well as instructions on how and where to apply, as well as how to then obtain a passport with a ready-made visa, is on the website of the Denmark visa center in Russia: http://www.vfsglobal.com/Denmark/Russia/.

  • How to avoid pitfalls in a visa application and get a long visa?

If you need a multiple-entry visa, then in paragraph 25 write 90 days, in paragraph 24 select “multiple entry”, in paragraph 29 indicate the date of first entry, in paragraph 30 - the expiration date of the visa (if you need an annual visa, then departure date - one year after the entry date).

  • Visa validity and period of stay - what's the difference?

The validity period of the visa (or visa corridor) determines from what date you can enter the country and until what date you must leave it. In the case of multiple-entry visas, the dates “from” and “to” indicate when you can start your first trip and by what date you must finish your last one.

The length of stay is the maximum number of days you can spend in the country within the validity period of your visa during each 180-day period.

  • Do I need to take biometrics and is it so scary?

Biometric data is not required for a Faroe Islands visa.

  • How to apply for a visa for children?

The rules for obtaining a visa for children are the same as for adults, but their package of documents includes a copy of their parents’ financial documents. In addition, you will need an original and a copy of the child’s birth certificate,
a notarized power of attorney if he is traveling with one of the parents or with third parties, for example, with a grandmother.

Children are usually issued single-entry visas. To get a multiple-entry visa for a child, both parents need to make a cross power of attorney for the child to travel, accompanied by each of them. The power of attorney must be valid for the entire period for which the visa is requested.

  • Degree of loyalty of the consulate?

The Danish Consulate can be called neutral in relation to Russian tourists. It does not indulge in multiple visas, however, it does not impose increased requirements for documents. If you have compiled a dossier in accordance with the requirements set out on the visa center website and have not previously had problems with the law, then you will most likely be given a visa without delay.

  • How to behave during an interview at the consulate?

In the vast majority of cases, an interview is not required.

  • What to do if a visa is refused, in what situation is refusal guaranteed?

The vast majority of visa refusals are due to an incorrectly prepared package of documents. Also, the reason for refusal may be the tourist’s “combat merits” during past visits to Schengen countries (the islands are not included in Schengen, but they have a common database).

If the consulate makes a negative decision on a visa, the tourist is given a letter along with his passport indicating the reason for the refusal. A corresponding stamp is placed in the passport, which is a series of letters (A, C, D) and numbers (1,2,3,4). The letters indicate the type of visa that was requested, the numbers indicate the reason for refusal. Number 2 - an interview at the consulate is required (not even a refusal, but only a requirement to come for additional verification of your tourist intentions); 3 - lack of documents; 1 - visa quarantine from 3 months to 1 year due to problems with the law during previous trips; 4 - lifelong ban on visiting Schengen countries (for serious crimes; imposed in rare cases).
If you find a two in your passport, you need to sign up for an interview, for which do not forget to bring all the documents that you submitted along with the application form. If the number is 3, then you need to collect a new package of documents and submit it again (by the way, you can go to the consulate of another country). If the consulate rated you one, then try to remember what they did and file an appeal, attaching documents proving that the consulate was mistaken in its conclusions. The appeal must be sent directly to the consulate.

Although the legendary Faroe Islands belong to Denmark, they have nothing to do with the Schengen Agreement. Therefore, actively traveling Russians need to apply for a regular national visa to the Faroe Islands.

Nature of the Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands are perfect for tourism gourmets who are tired of noisy Asian and European resorts. The archipelago, famous for its harsh but pristinely beautiful nature and excellent opportunities for active recreation, is located in the northern zone of the Atlantic Ocean. Despite the fact that the archipelago officially belongs to Denmark, it is not included in the Schengen zone, and to visit it you must obtain a separate visa.

In order to obtain a visa to the legendary northern islands, the applicant undertakes to provide a complete package of documents. It is important to remember that all certificates can be submitted at least two weeks before travel.

Typical settlement in the Faroe Islands

The package of documents for Russians wishing to visit the Faroe Islands is as follows:

  1. International passport.
  2. High-quality color photograph.
  3. Certificate confirming financial solvency.

It is important to remember that your passport must have at least two blank pages. If the applicant is accompanied by a minor, then a notarized permission from the other parent must be attached to the package of documents. A photo of a minor is pasted into the applicant’s passport.

Visa application

For Russians wishing to visit the Faroe Islands, a visa can be of two types: tourist and intended for a private trip.

Tour visa

A short-term tourist visa is issued when the foreign applicant intends to visit the islands to explore natural and historical attractions.

This is what a visa to visit the Faroe Islands looks like

To obtain such a visa, you must prepare a package of documents, including:

The applicant also undertakes to provide the employees of the diplomatic institution with correct information about his route. The description can be made in both Russian and English.

Visa for private travel

The package of documents required for a private trip to visit relatives or friends living in the Faroe Islands is almost the same as the previous one. Unless, instead of reserving a hotel room, the person opening the visa undertakes to provide the employees of the diplomatic institution with a fax of letters from the inviting party. The invitation text can also be sent by email. The invitation language is English or Danish.

Detailed map of Faroe Islands showing all islands

The invitation letter must contain the following information:

  • full name and address of the person residing in the territory of the Archipelago;
  • all current data of the invited Russian;
  • purpose of the invitation;
  • the exact duration of stay of a foreign person on the territory of the Archipelago;
  • personal signature of the person who wrote the invitation letter;
  • a high-quality photocopy of the residence permit of the inviting party (or passport);
  • a statement confirming that the inviting party bears the financial expenses.

There is no need to notarize the invitation. If a relative of a Russian citizen applying for a visa to the Faroe Islands cannot provide a guarantee of financing for the invitee, the latter undertakes to provide a certificate of income or a bank statement.

Registration of a minor traveler

If a Russian traveling to the Faroe Islands is accompanied by a minor child, then, in addition to the birth certificate and the notarized permission of one of the remaining parents in the homeland, a separate visa application form must be attached to the package of documents.

If the child travels independently, then a power of attorney from the sponsoring parents must be provided to the diplomatic institution.

The power of attorney authorizing the child to cross the border is certified by a notary.

If one of the parents has died, is in a coma, is deprived of the right to communicate with the child, or is in an unknown place, the relevant certificates must be submitted to the Danish Consulate. Such documents should include:

If a parent or accompanying person has a Schengen visa, then a color copy of it must be attached to the child’s package of documents. If the child is included in the parent’s foreign passport, then a special sticker must be pasted onto the required page.

Current requirements

The person applying for a visa to the Faroe Islands must carefully ensure that the insurance policy and photographs comply with the latest requirements required by the diplomatic post.

What should the insurance policy be?

Standard:

In case of issuing a 2-entry or multiple-entry visa, the Russian who submits the corresponding application to the diplomatic institution provides an insurance policy at the time of the 1st entry. Also, for subsequent entries, he undertakes to provide a certified undertaking of health insurance.
