Shanghai is developing at a rapid pace and that is why you can hear the expression “Pearl of the Orient” or “Paris of the East” in relation to this city. Over the past decades, Shanghai has become the most important financial and economic center, both in China and around the world. In one of the new business districts that covers Pudong, many high-tech offices and banks have been built. Among these objects, a building stands out, which is considered one of the symbols of the city - the Oriental Pearl television tower.

This 468-meter-high tower was built in the mid-90s. The construction technology is reinforced concrete cylinders, each 9 meters in diameter. Each structure is at a different height and is shaped like a pearl.

The “Oriental Pearl” is located in the east of Huangpu and is surrounded on both sides by bridges – Yangpu and Nanpu. These bridges represent two dragons who seem to be playing with pearls.

In addition, the television tower is the tallest in Asia, and in the world it holds third position, behind the Toronto television center and Moscow's Ostankino. The size of the “Oriental Pearl” is not the most important thing - the design of the building is beyond all praise and analogues in the world. Therefore, this place is very popular for tourists.

This TV tower was built in a very limited time. In just four years - 1991-1995. The project was carried out by Chinese engineer Jia Huangchen. The amazing thing is that the “Oriental Pearl” was able to absorb traditional Chinese style along with new technologies of the modern world. Regarding the panorama, everything here is also at its best: the glass “pearls” shine, and the green lawn resembles a jade field.

A tour of the tower can be done using a double-deck elevator, which can simultaneously lift up to 50 people. Of course, the second option is also possible - high-speed elevators that rise upward at a speed of 7 m/sec. These elevators will take you directly to the observation deck, which has the name “Space Module”. Visitors will find themselves at a height of 350 meters and will be able to see a never-before-seen Shanghai from the middle of the tower. During the day, when there are no clouds, you can also see the Yangtze River.

The first floor of the television tower is equipped as a museum of the history of the city, where, thanks to the interior and wax figures, the life and traditions of the Chinese people are shown authentically and interestingly. Scenes from real life are shown here on a huge stone screen made of emeralds, jades, pearls and other natural stones.

Each sphere, and there are three of them, houses shops, boutiques and galleries. At the very bottom there is “Space City”, where everyone will be interested in finding themselves in the fascinating world of science fiction. The middle part is equipped for a hotel and business premises. This complex contains 25 rooms for visitors, as well as several conference rooms. If you find yourself between the second and third spheres, you can visit the “Pearl of the East” - a restaurant that is at the highest point among all restaurants in Asia and makes a full revolution around its axis in one hour. The third pearl is located at 267 meters; it serves as an observation tower, where a club, shops and a concert hall are also located.

Every year there are many visitors here, but, of course, the main function of this serious facility is television and radio broadcasting. The broadcast tower includes 9 TV channels and 10 radio stations, and the broadcast radius reaches 44 miles.

The “Pearl of the East” is the tallest television tower in Asia, and ranks third in the world after the 553.33-meter television center in the Canadian city of Toronto, and the 533-meter Ostankino TV tower in Moscow. However, it is not only the size of the TV tower that is striking - its architectural design is unlike any other building in the world and makes the “Oriental Pearl” one of the most interesting and visited places in Shanghai.

The museum houses a giant screen made of natural stone, where genre scenes from real life were recreated using agates, emeralds, jade, pearls and jasper.

Each of the three areas has shops and galleries. In the lowest sphere is the Space City entertainment center, which opens up the fascinating world of science fiction to visitors. The middle part of the tower is occupied by a hotel and business complex with 25 guest rooms and conference rooms. Between the second and third spheres is the revolving restaurant “Pearl of the East”, which makes one full rotation per hour - this is the only restaurant in Asia located at such a height. The topmost “pearl”, located at an altitude of 267 m, serves as an observation deck, where shops, a club and a concert hall are also located.

Every year this extraordinary place attracts many visitors, but the main function of the tower remains the maintenance of television and radio communications. Since its inception, the tower has broadcast broadcasts from nine television channels and ten radio stations, spreading a signal over a radius of 44 miles.

The highest observation deck allows you to look at the city from a height of 360 meters, and in the ball located just below there is a revolving restaurant, where admiring the city you can combine with an equally wonderful meal. And in the Shanghai TV Tower you can sing karaoke - where would you be without it? There are as many as twenty special rooms for this activity.

By the way, despite the modernity of the TV tower, its image, according to the Chinese, is consistent with the ancient lines: “Large and small pearls fall into a jasper dish,” so here, too, there is some antiquity, China is China. The Shanghai History Museum, located on the ground floor, will also help you remember the past. Here you can get acquainted with the life of the people who inhabited these places earlier: the museum presents scenes from their life (wax figures and decorations were used).

The “Eastern Pearl” also looks beautiful at night, when the backlight lights come on, giving the tower even more charm. The tower fits well into the landscape of modern Shanghai, while retaining the subtle flavor of the East and striving for the future without renouncing the past.

Despite the fact that the TV tower is often used for business dinners and meetings by heads of various companies, the prices here are quite affordable. This is explained by the fact that Oriental Pearl Tower is primarily designed for tourists.

In addition to offices and a restaurant, the Shanghai Tower has a hotel with 250 small rooms, a cinema, souvenir shops and much more. Closer to the end of the Oriental Pearl Tower there is an attraction with real “American” races. To reach any floor, visitors to the tower can use one of 6 high-speed elevators. Two of them can accommodate up to 30 people at a time. In addition, the Oriental Pearl Tower has the only double-deck elevator in China. Its capacity is 50 people. The elevators are so fast that it takes just 40 seconds to travel the tower's 14 floors.

At the very foot of the “Oriental Pearl” there is a museum dedicated to the history of the development of Shanghai. It presents the life of the peoples who in ancient times inhabited the territory where the city is located today. Visitors to the museum can enjoy scenes from Shanghai's past, captured in photographs and various exhibits. For example, wax figures arranged in a certain order show the unloading of goods that were delivered along the Silk Road. 100 artists and decorators were responsible for the creation of more than 600 compositions presented in the museum. It took them 5 years of hard work to organize everything. Some of the stone statues presented in the museum are decorated with numerous jewelry: agate, jade, diamonds, pearls and others. There are also real bronze lions here, the fame of which has spread throughout the world. And in order for museum visitors to immerse themselves deeper into the history of Shanghai, oriental music is constantly played during the tour.

The true beauty of the Oriental Pearl Tower's architecture can only be appreciated at night. The “pearls” of the tower shimmer with hundreds of multi-colored lights. At the foot of the structure, lanterns light up, to the side of which fountains play, illuminated from below by neon lamps.

The Oriental Pearl Tower has become a real symbol of Shanghai. No wonder she often appears in many Hollywood films. About 3 million tourists visit it every year.

Fahua Tower

Fahua Tower is a seven-story brick tower with a height of 40.83 meters located in Shanghai's Jiading district. It was built between 1205 and 1207. Translated from Chinese, Fahua means “wisdom of the Buddha.” According to legend, students came to the tower en masse before exams to become wise.

During the Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties, the appearance of the structure deteriorated significantly. Only in 1608, with the support of the district authorities, a colossal restoration of the tower was carried out. Each level is equipped with railings and cornices on which bells hang. In windy weather, the gentle ringing of bells can be heard from afar. You can climb the stairs to the very top and admire the panoramic view of Shanghai.

During 1994 - 1996, the tower and basements were repaired, as a result of which ancient coins, jade figurines, stone sculptures, bronze and ceramic items, and ancient books were found.

Shanghai Tower

Shanghai Tower is a super-tall building under construction in the Pudong district of Shanghai, China.

Shanghai will soon have one more skyscraper. The new giant will grow in the Pudong region, namely, in the famous financial center of Luqyazui. Next to the Shanghai Tower, as the developers of the project have nicknamed it, there are already two high-rise buildings: the Shanghai World Financial Center and the Jin Mao, which the Chinese call the Golden Building of Success.

According to the project, the height of the building will be 632 meters, the total area will be 380,000 square meters.

The developers said that upon completion in 2014, the Shanghai Tower will become the most majestic building in China and the third tallest structure in the world, behind the Tokyo Sky Tree (634 meters) and the Burj Khalifa (828 meters) in Dubai.

In 2015, it will give up the first Chinese and third world position to the Pinan International Financial Center under construction in the city of Shenzhen, and after 2016 it will become 5th in the world, also taking into account the India Tower in Mumbai. The Shanghai Tower is one of the most notable architectural projects of modern times.

Nanxiang Tower

Nanxiang Tower is a historical brick building in Jiading District. The pagoda has a history of more than a thousand years. It was built during the Song Dynasty at the gate of the Nanxiang White Temple, which was damaged by fire in 1731.

In 1985, a large-scale restoration of the tower was carried out, and the pagoda was restored to its original appearance. The height of the brick pagoda is 11 meters. The shape of the tower is a regular octagon. Gray brick and wood are used as building materials.
