Things to do in Geneva

    The Jet d "Eau is a large fountain in Geneva, Switzerland, and is one of the city" s most famous landmarks, being featured on the city "s official tourism website and on the official logo for Geneva" s hosting of the 2008 UEFA Championships. Situated at the point where Lake Geneva empties into the Rhône, it is visible throughout the city and from the air, even when flying over Geneva at an altitude of 10 km.

  •    Reformation wall

    The International Monument to the Reformation (French: Monument international de la Réformation, German: Internationales Reformationsdenkmal), usually known as the Reformation Wall, is a monument in Geneva, Switzerland. It honors many of the main individuals, events, and documents of the Protestant Reformation by depicting them in statues and bas-reliefs.

I dreamed about Geneva for a long time, I knew about it, perhaps, absolutely everything. Most of all I wanted to see Lake Geneva. That is why, resting in Prague, I got the idea to go to Geneva. After all, what is almost 1,000 kilometers for a dream?

How to get there by car

If I didn’t rest myself, I would use this option. 1000 kilometers on a road of excellent quality, through the whole of Germany and through interesting cities would be a great adventure. Even the absence of a car would not be a hindrance, it can always be rented on or a similar site. Returning a car is much cheaper in Prague, if you do it in Geneva, be prepared to pay about 540 euros per day for a car! So, if you go by car, then you will have a choice of three options for the route:

  • through the highway A-6;
  • through the highway A-1;

jointly through these two routes.

  Now all three roads are under repair, so there will be traffic jams. I don’t understand what can be repaired there, because the roads are of perfect quality! There are paid sites. You don’t need to pay anything for travel through Germany, enjoy the ride. But in the Czech Republic and Switzerland, you will need to buy vignettes. They cost a lot of money, in my opinion. For Czech you need to pay 310 kroons (12 euros), the sticker is valid for 10 days. And in Switzerland, robbery in general is 40 francs (36 euros), but you can use the vignette for more than a year (at least do not leave the country until the money is rolled back). Gas prices in the three countries are approximately the same - from 1.13 euros (in the Czech Republic) to 1.32 euros (in Germany). It’s logical to fill a full tank back in Prague. But there are many gas stations along the way, there are also road infrastructure objects - cafes, shops and hotels. You are unlikely to need the latter, because 10-11 hours can be reached.

How to get there by bus

When planning a bus trip, I first ran to look for cheap tickets on the Flixbus website, but the site upset me. There are no direct flights, only with transfers. The road will take from 14 to 19 hours. But there are many options, you can choose convenient.

The bus carrier Noblessline was also not very pleased, offering direct flights only to Bern. But the bus is night, you can get enough sleep, which is a huge plus. And the bus runs every day.

Next you need to get on the train. They run every half hour from 5 am to midnight. Drive a little over an hour. It’s convenient, but I still wanted to get from Prague to Geneva on a direct flight. And I found one! The carrier RegioJet saved me. But here it was not without a fly in the ointment, the bus runs only once a week.

To go for a long time, almost 15 hours. But the bus is as comfortable as possible, besides the night flight. Conveniently.

What's the price

RegioJet has dynamic pricing, as can be seen on the screen. So the ticket for May 10 can be bought for only 39 euros (it will not be cheaper), closer to the date of the trip the ticket price will be higher. At Flixbus, the price depends on where to make the transplant. Ticket prices range from 50 to 70 euros. A Noblessline night bus ticket costs approximately 73 euros (1900 kroons). A train ticket to Geneva costs 22.5 euros.

How to get there by plane

I didn’t get a direct bus flight by dates, so I decided to fly by plane. Direct flights are operated every other day at 14:10 from Prague Airport. Within an hour and a half, the plane lands at Geneva airport. Flights are operated by SWISS. She has daily flights with transfers. The transplant takes place in Zurich.

I flew without a change, didn’t even have time to sit comfortably, as the pilot had already announced that the plane was landing. :)

Ticket price

A direct flight ticket costs 72 euros (1850 kroons), a ticket for transfers with flights costs from 85 euros (2188 kroons).
