When planning a trip to Europe, I often want to visit several countries at once and at the same time somehow optimize my expenses. Often, flights on low cost airlines within Europe will cost you much less than traveling by train or car. In this article I will tell you about what a low-cost airline is, about their main differences from other airlines, as well as how to buy the cheapest flights for your low-cost flight.

Low cost airlines (low cost airlines from English low cost - these are airlines that offer tickets at low prices and, as a result, a lower level of service than regular companies. A feature of most low-cost airlines is the surcharge for additional services - meals on board, baggage, check-in at the company’s counter at the airport, and ordering a certain seat on the plane plan. That is, the ticket you paid, in fact, includes only flight  from point A to point B with no frills.

Why do low-cost airlines have such a low price?

Below are the main features of low-cost airlines that make flying in them quite profitable:

  • Most low-cost airlines operate low-cost flights Boeing 737  and Airbus A319, A320, which helps to reduce the cost of the flight;
  • Departures are usually carried out at an inconvenient time (early morning or late evening), often from small regional airports located close to major cities;
  • Inability to replace or refund a ticket purchased at the best rate;
  • Performing one flight with several flights within 1 day and minimizing expensive downtime at airports;
  • Payment for food on board (most often there is no hot food, give a sandwich or a sandwich with a drink);
  • Payment for each piece of baggage (depending on the company). When traveling on a low-cost airline with luggage, I advise you to pay your baggage online when buying a ticket, it will not work to cheat and not pay - low-cost employees are very vigilant in this regard;
  • The specific size of the allowable hand luggage, which is controlled before boarding. In case of exceeding the established size you will have to pay up to 200 Euros or throw out the unfortunate hand luggage at the airport;
  • Check-in online or in special terminals at the airport, as the passenger will have to pay extra for check-in at the check-in counter (depending on the company);
  • During check-in for a flight, the place on the plane is not indicated so that passengers take seats on the plane as soon as possible, and thus the plane takes off faster (depending on the company);
  • Payment when ordering a specific seat on the plane plan (depending on the company).

Personal experience

From the above list I happened to fly on flights of companies Smartwings, i can evaluate this company perfectly: comfortable seats, they constantly deliver and offer drinks around the cabin (and even Czech can beer on Czech flights!). Of the inconvenient, I can note the departures in the early morning - both of my flights with this airline left at 5 in the morning, as well as a significant increase in the prices of their flights this year.

Concerning Wizz Air andRyanairthen here is very clearly track the size of hand luggage. By the way, I saw passengers Wizz airdescend from the plane and walk to the airport.

From flight companies EasyJet, Air Berlin, Norwegian Air Shuttle,Germanwings  only a good impression was left, I can’t recall the specific nuances. No complaints to them.

Pegasus Airlines  I really like: flights arrive on time, there is a large selection of hot meals on board, comfortable seats. Frustrated only by the increase in prices for flights recently.

As you probably already saw for yourself, travel does not have to be costly, and you can significantly save on air travel. Before buying tickets for low-cost airlines, I advise you to carefully read ALL of the conditions, including the terms of the exchange / return ticket, so as not to be surprised later. On the sites of almost all low-cost airlines, the option of viewing the most favorable tariffs in the coming weeks / months is available, and this is suitable for those who are not tied to specific dates. Enjoy your travels!

Full review  low-cost airlines flying to Prague. Find out how cheap it is to fly to and from the Czech Republic throughout Europe.

We will first look at the cities from which the main European low-cost airlines fly to Prague, and then additionally examine alternative flight options - find out which other Czech and neighboring (Polish, German) cities you can fly on low cost airlines.

Perhaps it will be useful for you to read about the departure from Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia, as well as the departure from Russian cities aboard traditional airlines.

Ryairair

Irish low-cost airline operates very few flights to Prague: only from Dublin, Of London  and Brussels. As you can see, there is nothing close to the Russian border - therefore, flights from Talinn, Riga, Vilnius, Kaunas and Lappeenranta will have to be transplanted to other European cities.

The lowest price for this low-cost airline from these directions, as a rule, for flights to Brussels is from 20 euros.

About other Czech cities (as well as nearby cities of neighboring countries), where Ryanair flies, read below - here the situation is already a little better.

Wizz air

The route network for Prague at the Hungarian low-cost airline is much more interesting: from the Czech capital you can fly to Milan, Venice, Rome, Naples, Bari, London and even Tel Aviv. As you can see, Italian destinations predominate, but eastern Europe, the Baltic countries and Finland are again completely absent.

Prices for tickets to Milan - from 20 euros, Venice and London - from 28 euros.

Easyjet

This lowcost airline flies to Prague from many cities in the UK, as well as from Milan, Rome, Amsterdam and Paris  (). Prices from 20 euros.

This is where you can roam! This low-cost airline flying to Prague has an amazing selection of flight directions to and from the Czech capital throughout Europe and beyond! It makes no sense to list, just look at the flight map.

flight map to Prague - Germanwings

True, again there is not a single city that would be convenient for Russians, Belarusians and residents of the Baltic countries. The easternmost city from which Germanwings flies to Prague is Warsaw. But this one low-cost airline flies to St. Petersburg and Moscowthat allows you to fly from them to one of the cities of neighboring countries for the Czech Republic, and the rest of the way to overcome already by land. Read more about these routes below.

The lowest prices for flights from / to Prague with this airline for the cities of Germany: Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hamburg - tickets for these flights can be bought from 30 euros.

jet2

This low cost airline, alas, flies to Prague only from UK cities (Glasgow, Belfast, Newcastle and others). Nothing interesting for us.

Transavia

This European low-cost airline flies to Prague from only two cities: Paris (Orly) and Dutch Rotterdam. Prices - from 30 euros.

Norwegian

This airline operates direct flights to Prague from the following cities: Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Bergen and Copenhagen. Prices on the screenshot (in euros, one-way tickets):

Czech low-cost airlines (other cities)

Here I will list which other cities in the Czech Republic low-cost airlines fly. In addition to Czech, we will also consider neighboring Polish and German cities.

Wizz air

From the Czech city Brno  (Brno) Wizz Air flies to just two other cities: London and the Dutch Endoven.

But the Hungarian low-cost airline has a more extensive flight network for some nearby cities of Poland and Germany, which can be reached quite quickly from Prague by bus and train.

I recommend paying special attention to the Polish city Katowice: Wizz Air has many flights to this city, you can fly to almost anywhere in Europe on a budget, as well as fly to Israel (Tel Aviv) and Georgia (Kutaisi).

katowice Flight Map - Wizz Air

Ryairair

This low-cost airline also flies from two other cities in the Czech Republic: from Brno and Ostrava, but alas, in only one direction - to London.

Not so far from Prague is the Polish city of Wroclaw, from which (or to which) aboard the Ryanair you can fly to Oslo, Malta, many cities of Great Britain, Crete Barcelona, \u200b\u200bMalaga, Alicante, Rome, Milan, Bologna, Paris, as well as to Warsaw and Gdansk.

Easyjet

From the cities closest to Prague, this low-cost airline flies to Dresden (one flight to Basel). If we consider a little more distant cities, then Berlin is of interest - EasyJet flies from this city in dozens of directions: you can fly to a variety of cities in Western, Central, Southern Europe, as well as to Morocco, Israel, Cyprus and the Canaries.

At Germanwings you can fly directly from St. Petersburg or Moscow to Nuremberg, Dresden or Vienna, and from there you can already get to Prague by train or bus (read, and vice versa by train or bus). Alas, this low-cost airline does not fly to Prague directly from Moscow or St. Petersburg, but on the other hand, it’s not bad that there are at least flights to these cities of Germany.

However, is there any sense in such a route you can find out only by comparing the prices of these flights in a compartment with the cost of ground transportation with the cost of flying to Prague from Moscow or St. Petersburg on board other airlines.
