What is a tattoo in the composition. Where Star Wars. Force Awakening Rebel Base - UK

This name became famous thanks to the fictional planet Luke Skywalker. But Tatooine is not only the dry desert planet of the binary star system in the Arkanis sector. At least one place with the same name exists on the map of the Earth. And it exists much longer than George Lucas - in a slightly different guise.

2. Tatooine (this is one of the pronunciation options for the name) - a small town in the North African state of Tunisia. This place is home to the ksars, fortified Berber granaries.

3. Also for millions of moviegoers, this name is associated with the homes of slaves of the city of Mos Aisley on the home planet of Luke's father, the Dark Knight Jedi Anakin Skywalker. For the Berbers, the name of the city of Tatooine has two meanings, “eyes” or “water sources” - and this despite the fact that the city looks very arid.

4. George Lucas filmed the first episode of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in one of Tatooine's villages, called Ksar Oaled Soltana. But the connection between Star Wars and Tunisia stretches even from the original film of the epic, when, from among many places in the country, the director chose one that would most closely correspond to his ideas about the fictional desert planet Tatooine.

5. He named his planet, the pronunciation of which varies slightly, in honor of the French historical garrison city. Perhaps, as a sign of respect, perhaps simply because for the ear of the Western audience it was a cool name, not like any familiar name. The buildings that served as the scenery for the filming of Mos Aisley are located in only one part of this city - in the area known as Ksar Ouled Soltana.

6. The village of Ksar Oaled Soltana began its existence several hundred years ago as the location of the Ksars, fortified Berber granaries that are scattered around the courtyards. Barns are adobe buildings decorated with historical subjects. Often they are located on top of a hill. So the precious grain was better protected from theft.

7. Although the granaries are currently uninhabited, Star Wars filming has given them a new life. Besides the fact that this place is one of the cents for any tourist who is interested in the history of Tunisia, Tatooine granaries have also become a place of pilgrimage for fans of the epic George Lucas who come here to spend an exotic vacation in the spirit of "Star Wars".

8. But, apparently, these places have not turned into a full thematic enclave of Star Wars. There is only one store for tourists, and while some locals go to the Obi-Wan Kenobi cloak, it is sometimes difficult to say whether she is worn in honor of the Jedi Master or is their traditional clothing.

9. Tourists who come here by rented cars or, more often, by bus, find that there are no hotels in the city and only a few restaurants. Therefore, you can stay here only for a couple of hours. But at least there is a guarantee that here you will not be surrounded by a crowd of other tourists.

10. As a result, all who fall into the granaries of Ksar Ouled Soltan feel elect. Of course, you could visit somewhere in the Territory of the Outer Ring - but remember the Hutts. Apparently, there are a lot of them.

Mos Eisley, Tatooine

IMDb

Tunisia is the most famous of Star Wars filming locations. Here George filmed the beginning of the “New Hope” - the desert planet Tatooine, on which the main character of the classic trilogy Luke Skywalker was born. Sidi Driss Hotel (Matmata town) houses Luke’s house, not far from it was Mos-Espa, where Qui-Gon Jin met Anakin (“Episode I: The Phantom Menace”), the city and spaceport of Mos-Aisley and his cantina, in which Khan Solo fired first.

But Tatooine was shot not only in Tunisia. For part of the scenes with landscapes of this planet, Lucas chose the Death Valley National Park, located in California and Nevada between the Mojave Desert and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Another location from the New Hope. Having escaped from the Death Star, Luke and his comrades went to the rebels on Yavin IV, to nevertheless deliver drawings of the Empire’s formidable weapons. To shoot the base, Lucas used the ruins of Tikal - the ancient Mayan city of Guatemala. It is on the tops of the millennial pyramids that sentinel rebels stand. The same location flashed in one of the trailers of "Awakening of the Force."

Another rebel base - on the planet Hoth from the fifth episode "The Empire Strikes Back" - was filmed in Norway near the village of Fins. There, Lucas found the Hardarger Jokulen glacier for landscapes of a snowy planet.

Most of the ground-based scenes of the final episode of the classic Jedi Return trilogy take place on the satellite of the gas giant Endor, where funny evoki creatures resembling Gummy bears live.

The forests of this planet were filmed in the Redwood National Park, located in California (USA). And the name for the Ewoks was invented by Lucas by analogy with the local tribe of the Miwok Indians.

Planet Naboo - UK

Hometown of JJ Binks, Queen Amidala and Chancellor Palpatine was in the thick of events of the first episode of the saga - the film "The Phantom Menace". Filming landscapes of this planet near London, in the forest of Whippendell Woods (Whippendell Woods). There, not far from the city of Watford, is the Livzden studio - the location for filming films about (and, of course, Star Wars).

But in order to remove the royal palace of Tida, the residence of the head of the human population, Naboo, Lucas and his team had to go to Seville (Spain), where the Plaza de Espana, built for the Iberian-American exhibition in 1929, is located. It was among his colonnades that Padme and the matured Anakin from the second episode of “Attack of the Clones” stroll.

Kashyyyk Planet - Guilin, China

Kashyyyk - Chewbacca's Homeworld

IMDb

The homeworld of Chewbacca and other representatives of the Wookiee race is shown very little in the saga films - only a few scenes in the third episode of Revenge of the Sith. True, Lucas intended to film "Return of the Jedi" on Kashyyyk, but he liked the ewoks more.

But for the sake of these few shots, the Star Wars film crew had to go to Chinese Guilin and visit Thailand - it’s hot there for woolly Wookies, but it’s insanely beautiful.

Planet Mustafar - Italy

Fiery World Mustafar

IMDb

The fiery world of Mustafar, in which one of the most tragic battles of the saga took place, between Obi-Wan Kenobi and his student Anakin Skywalker, who took the name Darth Vader, has already switched to the dark side of the Force.

It is clear that the Jedi and the Sith fought not among the real lava flows, but in the pavilion. And the Etna volcano on the Italian island of Sicily served as a kind for the landscapes of Mustafar.

Planet Jakku - UAE

Planet jakku

IMDb

The seventh episode of Star Wars also begins on a deserted planet - only it's not Tatooine, but Jakku. According to the canon of the saga, a year after the battle of Endor, this planet became the site of a new battle between rebels and empire troops (an addition to the game Star Wars: Battlefront is dedicated to it), during which a star destroyer fell to the surface.

This destroyer rummaged around Ray, the heroine, in the trailers for The Force Awakens. And the sandy landscapes of Jaku were shot in a real desert near Abu Dhabi.

Force Awakening Rebel Base - UK

Rebel Awakening Base

IMDb

In the trailers and videos for the seventh episode, a new rebel base was shown. Where it is in the film is still unknown, but on our planet you can see it if you get to the Royal Air Force base in the English Berkshire (RAF Greenham Common military base).

Once during the Cold War, this base was actively used, but now it has been abandoned and only thanks to filmmakers has not been lost on the map of England.

Force Awakening Island - Ireland

Unknown place from Awakening of Power

IMDb

The plot of The Force Awakens will probably remain unknown to the general public until the premiere of the film on December 17. And while it is not known what role this island plays in the saga.

Detailed description:

Tatooine is the main planet of the Tatu system, a desert world located in the Arkana sector of the Outer Ring near the worlds of Ryloth and Piroket, about 43,000 light-years from the center of the galaxy. Tatooine is close enough to the main hyperspace route, which allows you to quickly reach the central worlds, such as Coruscant and Corellia, but the natural conditions and climate of the planet make it one of the most unfriendly in the galaxy.

The silicate surface of Tatooine reflects the light of its suns so strongly that, according to legend, the discoverers of Tatooine first confused the planet with the third smaller sun. Also in the system are two uninhabited gas giants: Adriana and Ohann.

Tatooine is an endless desert fried by the strong warmth of the yellow twin suns. Stone table mountains, canyons and streams dilute the monotony of many kilometers of dunes.
It’s hot during the day, cold at night. The air is dehydrated, the soil is dry. And yet, there is life in various, hardy forms. Major local intelligent creatures: garbage collectors   and fearsome Tusken Raiders. Among the wandering animals in the desert, one can distinguish a bow, ronto, debackbacks, womp rats, krayt dragons and eopi.

The first settlers of the planet - called the "Elderly" in local folklore, sought to profit by exploiting the ore found under the sands. This magnetic ore, as it soon became clear, had undesirable metallurgical properties. The weary miners and investors left their unsuccessful mines and equipment and left this forgotten world center.

However, not everyone managed to leave the planet. Those who remained were forced to engage in water-mining farming and trade in order to survive. When the Hutts arrived on the planet, they set up their profitable business here. Tatooine was given a newfound life in the form of a trading post and place of commerce for the Hutts.

Most of the settlers on the planet work on water-producing farms, or participate in the Hutt business. Small farms use devices called vaporizers (dehumidifiers) to extract water directly from the air. The moisture obtained is used to irrigate underground crops or is sold to interested parties.

The concentration of magnetic ore and constantly changing winds made one part of the Tatooine surface more populated than others. It is in this zone, where the temperature rarely exceeds 43 standard degrees, that the center is located for most of the world's population. The official capital of Tatooine is Bestin, located about 200 km west of Mos Aisley.

Slave Anakin Skywalker was brought to Tatooine at an early age. For a long time, he worked in the distant Mos Espa, before he was discovered by the Jedi Master Qui-Gon-Jinn. A generation later, Anakin’s son, Luke Skywalker, grew up on Lars’s moisture farm.

Outside Territory, Arkanis Sector. The distance from the center of the Galaxy is 43 thousand light years. Desert planet Tatooine, revolving around a double star and a refuge for smugglers and gangsters of all stripes. For centuries, Tatooine has been the site of orbital showdowns of various gangs, so the planet’s surface is literally littered with fragments of ancient spaceships buried under the sands of deserts.
Officially, Tatooine was colonized several centuries ago, on the planet, in addition to colonists of various races, there are also natives: the fussy and annoying people of the Java and aggressive nomadic Tusken. The form of government is complete anarchy, only the king of the underworld, representative of the Hutt race Jabba the Hutt, has some power.
Fans of the Star Wars saga, I believe, have already grasped what is at stake. Yes, I am writing about the homeworld of Anakin Skywalker, the future Sith Lord Darth Vader, as well as a haven for Obi-Wan Kenobi, the teacher of Luke Skywalker.
On the other hand, Tatooine is a small town in the south of Tunisia, the administrative center of the governorate of Tataouine. It was here that director George Lucas shot some episodes of the famous story. True, the shooting of the first film "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" took place not there, but in the vicinity of the Berber settlement of Matmata, where, in addition to landscapes, the interiors of the Sidi Driss hotel were lit.
And the scenery of the future Jedi town was built by Lucas in the sandy hills near the city of Neft, 15 kilometers from the Algerian border (on the map). The arid climate allowed them to remain virtually intact for 35 years. It’s clear that being in Tunisia, and not to see this - well, it’s simply impossible. Especially when you are traveling with a child who watched all six episodes of Star Wars before the trip.

Tunisia September 22 - September 29. 2013
  Spaceport Mos Espa 09/27/2013

It is here in Sahara, north of Oil, in 1976 George Lucas shot the first shots of the film "Star Wars"by creating the world of the desert planet Tatooine, named for a nearby city in Tunisia. In this inhospitable world, a significant part of the events of the first, second, fourth and sixth episodes of the epic takes place. On Tatooine, in the scenery of the Mos Espa spaceport, the Jedi meet the 9-year-old Anakin Skywalker, the future Darth Vader.

A few frames from the movie:

Decorators built the houses of Mos Espa for 2 months, and in the midst of filming, an unexpected sandstorm destroyed most of the buildings. In order not to get out of the schedule, they shot against the backdrop of the surviving scenery and repaired the destroyed ones. But since then, the storms have apparently calmed down, and the alien city has been well preserved to this day, to the delight of tourists.

There are about two dozen buildings, some only facades. And it was not particularly necessary to invent - houses with small domes were copied from Berber dwellings and very organically fit into the surrounding landscape.

The desert is gradually advancing on an alien city, threatening to devour it. Scientists took satellite images of the scenery in different years and established the speed of the nearest dune - 15 m per year, some buildings have already absorbed the sands. Soon, Mos Espa will be completely hidden under the sand, but in a few years it will appear again on the surface - the dune will continue its movement.

You can get here in jeeps on the road. Although, no, this is not off-road, this is the route along which the Paris-Dakar rally took place. In 1977, the French racer Thierry Sabin, struck by the fantastic scenery of the desert, decided that this place is perfect for a new rally, where each rider will be able to demonstrate their abilities.

Thierry Sabin became the founder and organizer of the rally "Paris - Dakar". Several times the rally passed through Tunisia. But the international situation was not favorable, there were threats of terrorist acts, once the rally was even stopped and since 2009 it has moved to South America. What Tunisians now bitterly regret.

Now, tourists drive jeeps along the former highway into the desert, have fun races, take off on dunes, demonstrate the Mos Espa spaceport and the incredible beauty of alien landscapes.

And we go to the mountain oasis of Shebik.
