Batllo House, 43 Passeig de Gràcia, which was assigned another name - “House of Bones”, was preceded by a residential building of textile tycoon Josep Ballo i Casanova. The owner of the house asked Gaudi to build a new one on the site of the previous building.

But Gaudi did not let the old building be demolished, designing two new facades. The architect also completely redesigned the mezzanine and the lower floor, developing original furniture designs for them, and added an attic, a basement and a stepped roof terrace to them - an asotea.

A distinctive feature of the building was the lack of straight lines in its design. The wavy outlines in the decorative details of the facade and in the interior design became a new creative stage in the work of the architect.
