• It is best to go shopping in January or July. This is a real sales season. At this time, you can save money on purchases.
 • Euro exchange is best taken care of at home. In Spain, it is preferable to change money only at bank branches. The disadvantage is that they only work half a day.
 • Obtaining a visa to Spain is not possible without medical insurance. No need to save on it. This is a guarantee to receive quality services.
 • You should not lose vigilance on vacation. Unfortunately, pickpocketing at resorts is very common. It is not recommended to carry all the money with you at once and you need to carefully monitor your passport. It is better to ask the hotel if they have cells for storing valuables.

The southernmost coast of Spain got a simple, but at the same time exact name: Sunny Beach, Costa del Sol. Small houses, as if whitened by the sun, mountains in a haze quivering with heat, a fragrant mixture of aromas of needles and oranges - this is the shore of the sun, sung by one of the best sons of Andalusia, the poet Federico Garcia Lorca. Celebrities prefer to rest in these parts, holidays with children in the Costa del Sol are no less good. You will find all useful information about family vacations in Sunny Beach in our review.

Costa del Sol on a map of Spain

Costa del Sol is the coast of the province of Malaga in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is located in southern Spain and is washed by the waters of the Alboran Sea (it is the westernmost part of the Mediterranean Sea).

Sunny Beach stretches from Gibraltar in the west to Nerja in the east. The main resorts in the region are located west of the provincial capital, the city of Malaga. The distance from Malaga to Torremolinos is 18 km, to Benalmadena - 20 km, to Fuengirola - 33 km, to Marbella - 70 km, to Estepona 92 km.

Where the Costa del Sol is located, it is warm all year round, and many tourists come here in winter for tours of ancient cities. But most of the guests Sunny Beach takes in the summer, when you can sunbathe and swim.

Vacation with children

A trip to the Costa del Sol is a kind of pursuit of a dream. Hot summers, luxurious beaches, fashionable hotels and crowds of celebrities flashing along the beach or enthusiastically playing golf - something like this Sunny Beach looks in advertising booklets.

The most interesting thing is that all this is true. And there are many celebrities, and expensive hotels, and wonderful beaches. But this does not prevent the Costa del Sol from remaining a place where you can relax with your child in a serene, happy atmosphere.

It is only necessary to consider that at peak season, the coast of the province of Malaga is flooded with tourists, and there are not so many quiet corners. To relax with a baby at this time, it is better to find a small resort without any entertainment, but without crowding on the beaches.

Holidays in the Costa del Sol can be both lazy and eventful. You can simply enjoy the comfort in a five-star hotel or on the beach, or you can travel all over Andalusia to see the Moorish palaces, bullfighting and flamenco.

Little children in Sunny Beach will not be bored either. A lot of interesting things have been prepared in Costa del Sol for children: water parks, animal parks, game centers. Many resorts have good museums, but most of them are concentrated in Malaga.

Only the cold sea can spoil the rest in the Costa del Sol with children. Year to year is not necessary: sometimes the water warms up well, but it happens that the sea remains cold all summer.

When is the best time to go?

Weather on the coast of Andalusia is a gift for those who are already eager to sunbathe on the beach in May and who are not ready to say goodbye to summer in September. The beach season in the Costa del Sol lasts from the beginning of May until the end of October, and at this time there is no place for clouds or rains: the sun is baking in full force.

And at the same time, the choice of when to go to the Costa del Sol is not so simple. On the one hand, on this hot coast, it is undesirable to rest with a child in July-August, when the air temperature rises.

On the other hand, only in July the water in the sea becomes relatively warm, and therefore it is unprofitable to come here at the beginning of summer. You can get around this weather inconsistency. Firstly, in May-June, that is, by the opening of the season in the Costa del Sol, water parks begin to operate. Secondly, many hotels have pools.

The perfect balance between water and air temperature is set in September. The heat is on the decline, and the sea remains warm enough.

For excursions to Seville and Granada, it is also better to choose spring, the beginning of summer or autumn. This is due to the fact that away from the coast it is always hotter: for example, when the temperature on the coast is kept at + 30 ° C, in Seville the air can heat up to + 40 ° C.

The fact that the resorts of the Costa del Sol have a good rest not only in the hottest months, says the calendar of events. On the first day of May, Mijas hosts the Sardinada holiday, dedicated to the opening of the sardine season.

On June 23, bonfires are lit all over the shore and celebrations are celebrated - this is how St. Juan's Day is celebrated. And in October, carnival processions take place throughout Andalusia as part of the Feria del Rosario holiday. It is especially magnificent celebrated in Fuengirola.

Weather and climate

No matter what time of year you look at meteorological sites, the weather forecast in Costa del Sol, like oranges, is hung with clear icons.

The climate of the Costa del Sol is generous in the sun and warmth. Here the sun shines 300 days a year, while rare gloomy days fall in the winter. It rains only in late autumn, winter and early spring, and in summer rainfall is very rare.

Summer comes to Sunny Beach in May. The daytime temperature at this time is + 23 ° C, and holidays in the Costa del Sol can be devoted to trips to Granada and Seville or excursions to the African coast of Spain. In addition to panama and sunglasses, put warm clothes in a suitcase, since the night temperature drops to + 13-14 ° C.

Already in June, pleasant warmth is replaced by heat. In early summer, while the thermometer posts do not rise above + 27 ° C, you can come with a baby to the Costa del Sol.

But July-August, when the temperature is kept for a long time at a level of + 30-35 ° C, are least suitable for relaxing with a child. And although the ardor of the African hot sun cools the sea breeze, we recommend you to get to the beach in the morning, when the thermometers show + 25-27 ° С.

Conditions for a better vacation in the Costa del Sol with children are in the first half of autumn. The heat is decreasing, the air temperature drops to + 28 ° C in September and to + 25 ° C in October. Sometimes it can rain, but it does not bother tourists at all.

The time from November to March is the coldest.

This means that during the day the temperature rises to + 15-18 ° С, and at night it drops to + 6-7 ° С. The weather will only take a warming course in April: the nights will still be very cold, but the daytime temperature will rise to + 20 ° С.

It should be noted that the climate of Marbella and Estepona is slightly different from the rest of the coast: here it is slightly cooler and less sunny days.

Sea water temperature

Despite the fact that the summer in Costa del Sol is very hot, the sea here is never particularly warm. The close Atlantic Ocean brings cold currents, and even in summer the temperature of the water in the Costa del Sol does not rise above + 24 ° С during the summer months.

Such warm water can be found only in August-September, the rest of the time the sea temperature does not exceed + 20-21 ° С. See how the sea warmed up from May to October (the results of meteorological observations for three years were used):

 • may - 17-20 ° C;
 • june - 19-22 ° C;
 • july - 20-23 ° С (the record was + 26 ° С);
 • august - 23-25 ° C;
 • september - 21-24 ° C;
 • october - 19-21 ° C.

Nutrition

Three meals a day at the hotel are not typical for Spain. Often, hotels only offer breakfast, and in Costa del Sol it can be convenient: cafes and restaurants in the resorts open no earlier than 9 in the morning.

As for lunch and dinner, they can be turned not just into a meal, but into an acquaintance with Andalusian cuisine. It is from here that the famous gazpacho and salmorejo soups come from, it is here that the jamon is in the same honor as the dried mohama tuna, here they produce sherry and malaga.

Not all Andalusian dishes are suitable for children, but picking up something for a children's table is not difficult - for example, Malaga salad (ask not to add dried cod to it) or potato tortilla.

Andalusians have dinner quite late. Despite the fact that lunch in restaurants is served at 13: 00-15: 00, the dinner time comes only at 20: 00-21: 00.

If you intend to cook on your own, then all products can be bought in markets or in stores. Markets open early and shops only at 9 a.m.

Transport

Public transport in the Costa del Sol is less in demand than bicycles, taxis or rented cars. Most resorts are small towns, which are more pleasant to walk than to ride.

You have to resort to public transport only in Malaga and partly in Benalmadena and Torremolinos. Traveling on a city bus costs about 1.30 euros, on a Malaga light rail - up to 1.50 euros, depending on the type of ticket. Discount for tickets for children is not provided.

Buses to the Costa del Sol follow a clear schedule. In Malaga, they go every 10-15 minutes, in other cities - every 30-40 minutes.

But the intercity transport in the Costa del Sol, tourists are actively using. There is a bus service between all resorts on the coast. Useful routes - No. 110 (Málaga - Torremolinos - Benalmadena) and No. 120 (Torremolinos - Fuengirola). You can also use the train connecting Malaga, Benalmadena and Fuengirola.

You can use a taxi to get around the Costa del Sol. The cost of a trip within the city is about 10 euros. All taxis are equipped with counters. To see if the machine is free, look for the “Libre” plate behind the glass.

If you want to travel a lot while relaxing and not suffer from the heat on the road, it makes sense to rent a car. Rental companies have offices at Malaga Airport and all resorts.

A nice feature of the Costa del Sol - free parking, including near the beaches. If free parking is busy, there are always places for a fee.

When planning our holidays in Spain, many of us often came across information about southern spanish coast of Costa del Sol... and put off their rest there until later, a little afraid of the rare and hard-to-pronounce names of cities: Malaga, Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Marbella. In addition, the city of Marbella was superficially familiar to many of us by the expensive and fashionable vacation of celebrities, which means it was automatically inaccessible to us, parents with children, and the city of Malaga was associated with the popular football team and the same brand of wine.
 “What can we, parents with children, do in such places?” - we thought and leafed through the offers of travel agencies, preferring to go to the places we liked so much on the Costa Brava or Costa Dorada. However, the Costa del Sol has something to offer. wonderful stay in Spain at affordable prices, primarily for those people who can not imagine their travels without children.

Weather on the Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol is translated as " coast of the sun". This southern part of Spain can rightfully be called the sunny coast: in this part the largest number of sunny days is about 320 a year!
 There is no winter, as such, since even in the coldest months the air temperature does not drop below 20 degrees. Therefore, the Costa del Sol is such an attractive place for tourists of all ages at any time of the year. There is no sweltering heat, and periodically coming cool currents of Gibraltar pleasantly cool swimmers in the sea during the hottest months of summer.
 You can safely go here with both the smallest children and with older children, since the mild, pleasant climate is easily tolerated at any age and the terrible word “acclimatization”, which every parent thinks about when standing before choosing a vacation place, is forgotten in the first days after arrival.

Costa del Sol: map and resorts

The coast itself stretches for 50 km along the Mediterranean Sea, and about 150 km inland. Here map of Costa del Sol, Spain, click on the picture to enlarge (you can also download the map to your computer by right-clicking on it and selecting "Save Picture As")

The administrative center of this Spanish province is the main transport hub of the coast. There is also an airport and the oldest port in Spain. Despite the fact that the city is a kind of business center of the coast, it is good for accommodation there with the youngest children, as well-developed infrastructure and transport links allow you to get to the right place in the southern part of Andalusia in a matter of time, and the sea and beaches are the same clean, like the rest of the coast.
 From Malaga you can get yourself to almost any resort town of Costa del Sol, so if you want to get away from the usual city bustle, then welcome to Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella or Estepona.

Torremolinos - This is the beach resort closest to Malaga, but despite its proximity to the administrative center (about 10 km), the noise from the approaching planes is not heard here. In addition to its sonorous and difficult to pronounce the name, Torremolinos boasts beautiful beaches, delicious fish restaurants, one of the best. In the west, the city smoothly passes into the borders of the neighbor's possession - Benalmadena, which, in our opinion, is an ideal place to relax with children of any age.
