A hundred-meter fountain in Khor Khalid. Dancing fountain show in Sharjah: review with photos Dancing fountains in Sharjah opening hours

The fountain in Khalid Lagoon can rightfully be called a masterpiece of human imagination. The third tallest in the world (second only to the fountains in Jeddah and Geneva), it flows directly from the bay.

The total width of the fountain reaches 220 meters, and the height is 100 meters. It would seem that this power alone would leave an indelible impression in the memory. But the residents of Sharjah are used to surprising people - every day, starting at seven in the evening, the fountain presents a unique light and sound show to everyone. Laser effects and mesmerizing video projections show various stories about the history and development plans of Sharjah. The musical accompaniment corresponds to the large-scale show; the most popular modern and classical compositions are used.

The breathtaking water performance can be observed both from the embankment itself and at a distance, fortunately the height of the fountain allows this.

Near the fountain there are many restaurants and cafes, visiting which you can have a great time, having dinner and enjoying the gorgeous show.

Residents and visitors of Sharjah enjoy stunning water shows with laser effects and light video projections. Performances take place daily, from 20.30 to midnight, every half hour. The duration of the fountain “performance” lasts five minutes. The fountain is equipped with two huge screens, as well as the latest sound and lighting technology. It is located near the equally stunning Sharjah Aquarium.

The Sharjah Fountains are one of the most famous singing fountains in the United Arab Emirates after those located in Dubai. They are 220 meters long, and the jets soar up to a height of 100 meters. The performance is accompanied by music, including classical music, videos, and images projected onto the surface of the water.

Repertoire

One of the main topics is the history and culture of the country. Vacationers can see images of rulers, cultural figures, camels and even pearl divers (since before the oil boom they were in great demand, bringing large incomes to the country).

  1. The show happens as follows: music sounds, a wall of water soars up according to the rhythm, and a laser show begins. The fountains work either together or separately, drawing bizarre patterns in the air;
  2. In total, the fountains’ repertoire includes 5 programs, the most memorable of which is “Sharjah Main Show”, conducted in Arabic and English;
  3. There are 6 performances in one day, so you can devote the whole evening to watching;
  4. Interestingly, the programs also differ by day, so you can come on different days and watch the production first. It all starts with a fountain show, which is then replaced by a music show. So they alternate;
  5. There is a small show for children that ends with fireworks.

The area around the fountain is great for walking. There is a landscaped park around it with attractions for children and small fountains. If your child gets tired of walking, you can take a mini-car or ride on a special tourist train.

The park itself covers an area of 800 sq.m. There are beautiful flower beds on its territory, so the walk goes unnoticed.

If you get hungry, you won't have to go far. There are several good restaurants nearby. And although the prices there are not the lowest, you can watch the show directly from the terrace.

The administration has also provided an option if tourists want to settle nearby. Nice hotels have been built near the Sharjah Fountains. The cost of living in them is quite high, although the prices are not as high as for hotel rooms in Dubai.

Schedule and cost

The show starts at 18:30 or 19:00 and repeats every half hour. Although the content of the programs is different, you will not see the same story throughout the day. The performance itself lasts from 5 to 15 minutes. The latest ends at 23:00 or a little later, depending on the day of the week. However, the schedule changes frequently, so check the official website for the latest information.

It is worth remembering that Muslims are very religious people, they religiously observe prayer times, so the program schedule may change. For more accurate information, we recommend checking out the official website of the emirate.

You can admire the spectacle completely free of charge.

Buses run here from other parts of the city; you can get off at the stop of the same name, although there are a couple more suitable stops nearby.

Transport also runs through the park itself.

You can order a taxi through Uber or the local Gett app, or order a car the traditional way by contacting one of the city companies (More details). The cost of the trip will be from 5 to 20 dirhams, depending on the distance.

About history and architecture

Construction of the park around the fountains began in 2010 thanks to the participation of the Emirate Investment and Development Authority. In addition to the fountains themselves, food courts, a golf course, paths for jogging and cycling, the Al Noor Mosque, a paid “dry” fountain, a park with sculptures and areas for various cultural events were built. The construction cost about 120 million dirhams.

The first program was presented in 2012. The opening was attended by Sheikhinya Budur bint Sultan Al Qasimi herself, daughter of the Emir of Sharjah and member of the board of directors of Shurooq.

Many vacationers tend to compare the fountains of Sharjah with those located in Dubai (). So, we inform you that they are two times smaller both in length and in the number of pumps. At the same time, in Sharjah, water jets create two screens on which images are projected using special lasers, while in Dubai the water jets dance to the music. However, we would recommend looking at both options.

Ebru show

This is something that is definitely worth a look if you are planning to visit Sharjah, as there is nothing like it in the world yet. This water show is based on the traditional Turkish technique of creating pictures by painting them on a special thick solution and then transferring them onto a screen. This technique is called Ebru or “water marble”.

The renowned Turkish master Garib Au acts as a recognized designer. The show itself demonstrates to vacationers the process of creating patterns using the ebru technique. It's definitely worth seeing!
