What not to take on a plane. What can not be transported in the luggage of the aircraft: prohibited items and necessary permits. Punching and cutting objects, explosive goods and weapons

For the majority of passengers, both for beginners and for those who have made a single flight in their lives, the topic of cabin baggage remains relevant to this day. Airline rules may change every year, so you should always pay attention to the rules and regulations for carrying hand luggage on an airplane.

So, what is hand luggage on an airplane? These are things that travelers take with them to the cabin without putting them in the luggage compartment. The type of ticket implies a limit on the number of pieces of hand luggage per passenger. For economy class, one place for cabin baggage is assumed, business class and first class - two places.

If we talk about hand luggage, this does not mean that you can only take a handbag with you. In fact both two and three bags are allowed, but that they are not larger than a certain size and weight. Stricter rules for transporting things on board an airliner are established by low-cost carriers.

Important! If you want to know the weight of your luggage, you can weigh it at the airport and check the size.

What is allowed to be carried on board

Let's figure out what you can take with you on a plane? Hand luggage has a certain weight limit, so if you have a lot of bags, in the cabin you need to take only valuable and necessary for the flight. For example, money, credit cards, gadgets, laptops, fragile items and jewelry.

As for the rest, you can take what is allowed by the rules established by the air carrier.

You can always find all information about the transportation of things on the website of the air carrier. As far as safety standards are concerned, they apply to everyone.

Cabin baggage allowance from Aeroflot

  1. Hand luggage on an airplane - dimensions and weight Aeroflot has set the dimensions of bags for cabin transportation - up to 115 cm (55 x 40 x 20) the sum of 3 measurements.
  2. Business class includes hand luggage weighing up to 15 kg.
  3. Comfort and economy classes - up to 10 kg.

Perfume is transported in the cabin up to 100 ml in a transparent zip file.

The new rules prohibit bringing on board baby food, medicines, liquids, gels, inhalers, hygiene products, cosmetics, perfumes, and so on.

Concerning medical preparations, they are allowed to be taken on board only if the passenger has a medical certificate proving the need to take these drugs on the airliner.

Parents with children under 2 years old can carry only the amount of food that is necessary for the duration of the flight. These provisions apply to air carriers and airports of the Russian Federation.

Rules for transporting fruit on board an aircraft

If you are flying within the country, You can carry fruit and the airlines do not have a ban on their transportation.

The main thing is that everything is in the normal weight. That is, as in the luggage compartment, and in the cabin with you, you can stuff apples and pears, for example, at least to the top, if only it did not exceed 20 and 10 kg, respectively. If you carry grapes, then in the luggage compartment it will flow and spoil the luggage of other travelers.

It is better to transport such fruits in tight containers.

Fruit on international flights

Here other laws because of the customs legislation. First of all, you need to read the rules for the import and export of fruits of the countries you will be visiting.

Often, no one has ever had any difficulties with export, but as regards the import, not everything is so smooth here. Since plants, fruits, vegetables - they are regulated goods, and their import is carefully monitored by sanitary services.

If you import fruit from other countries to the territory of Russia, then remember that one person has up to 5 kg of agricultural products.

The only thing is that it is forbidden to import fruits from the EU countries, Australia, Turkey, Canada, the USA, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Norway, Georgia, Azerbaijan into the territory of the Russian Federation.

If the import smuggled fruits into the country, they will be removed and put on a fine of 500 rubles. Confiscation is carried out only regulated products. Repeated violation involves a fine in 1000 rubles.

Features of fruit transportation in the cabin

There are also restrictions on fruit to be carried on board.

Often, fruits can be carried in hand luggage on an airplane and they are carried. But you can carry in the amount that you need to eat during the flight.

If you carry a trunk with exotic fruits, then they will take it away from you, if a couple of kilograms, then they will not be paid attention to.

If you are flying from Thailand, it is forbidden to transport durian due to its specific smell.

A refusal for transportation may also be the lack of factory packaging, but they can close their eyes to this if the fruit is in a small amount.

In general, it is allowed to transport fruits in the cabin of an airliner, but within reasonable limits.

How much space is allocated for cabin luggage

Here we will take a closer look at the rules for transporting hand luggage in the cabin of the liner, dimensions, weight and what cannot be considered hand luggage.

As previously stated, Economy class suggests one place for transporting things in the cabin, A business and first class - 2. A handbag and a briefcase are not included in the baggage carried in the cabin, as well as clothes in a case, suit, dress, laptop, umbrella.

Nevertheless, they have strict restrictions on the carriage of baggage in the cabin, that is, 1 person - 1 piece of cabin baggage. This does not include strollers, outerwear. Packages from Duty Free are allowed.

The weight and dimensions of luggage and hand luggage must be taken into account

Hand luggage - dimensions and weight

Cabin baggage in terms of weight and size may vary based on the rules established by the airline, ticket class and travel distance.

The standards are related - the sum of 3 measurements is not more than 115 cm (55 × 40 × 20 cm). Hand luggage - 5-10 kg. You can always weigh your luggage at the check-in desk, and you can transfer the excess from the cabin bag to your luggage.

If you are flying with cabin baggage only, transferring items to the hold is excluded. Therefore, it is better to weigh luggage at home on scales or specially designed ones.

Low cost carriers inspect suitcases with a certain frame, which must fit with wheels and a handle. For example, Wizzair assumes the weight of cabin luggage is 10 kg, and its size is no more than 42x32x25cm.

Ignorance of the rules for carrying hand luggage and checked baggage can turn into an unpleasant situation at the control point: they will ask you to repack something, things that do not comply with the rules will be confiscated, and you will have to pay extra for the excess. Despite the fact that the requirements of airlines often differ, there are still general rules on what is absolutely impossible and what can be taken on a flight, and most importantly, how to do it correctly.

All belongings of an aircraft passenger are divided into two types - hand luggage, which he takes with him to the aircraft cabin, and checked baggage, which is checked into the luggage compartment of the vessel.

hand luggage

Before talking about what is allowed and what is not allowed to take with you on a flight, it is worth mentioning the number of seats and the standards for the weight and volume of hand luggage:

  • For economy class passengers: 1 piece of baggage weighing up to 10 kg and with a volume not exceeding 115 cm in the sum of three dimensions.
  • For business class passengers: 1 piece of baggage weighing up to 15 kg and not exceeding 115 cm3 in three dimensions.

There are also exceptions to the rules. For example, for Emirates, the maximum carry-on baggage allowance is 7 kg, and for British Airways, it is 23 kg.

According to the rules of the International Civil Aviation Organization, in excess of the established norms, you can carry the following things that are not included in hand luggage:

  • handbag/men's briefcase
  • folder for papers
  • umbrella
  • cane
  • bouquet of flowers
  • outerwear
  • suit in a suitcase
  • mobile phone
  • prints for in-flight reading
  • laptop, camera, camcorder
  • crutches, folding walker
  • baby cradle when transporting a child
  • baby food for the baby during the flight
  • bag with purchases from the Duty Free store

Liquids

Carrying liquids in hand luggage in the cabin is possible subject to the rules, as well as in the absence of additional security measures.

First of all, let's understand what is meant by the word "liquid". This concept includes most personal care products, such as shampoo, cream, lotion, deodorant, shaving foam, toothpaste, as well as perfumes.

The maximum volume of each liquid container must not exceed 100 ml. Keep in mind, if a 200 ml bottle is only half filled with liquid, it will still be required to lay out: the volume indicated on the container is taken into account. All containers with liquid must be packed in a transparent sealed bag with a special fastener or zipper. Such a bag can be purchased in advance at a stationery store or at the airport. You can also use a transparent cosmetic bag. The total volume of all liquids must not exceed 1 liter per passenger.

Screening rules for liquids vary by airline, so don't be surprised if your jars and bottles are opened and checked for banned substances.

Gadgets and electrical appliances

Almost any digital equipment and oversized electronics are allowed to be carried in hand luggage in the aircraft cabin, including mobile phones, tablets, laptops, electric shavers, photographic equipment, electronic cigarettes, etc. Vape refill liquid can be carried in accordance with the rules for transporting liquids. Therefore, taking it with you on a plane or checking it in as luggage is up to you.

Food

It is allowed to bring food purchased after passing through customs control on board the aircraft in the so-called sterile zone. With regard to products purchased outside of it, then most likely you will be asked to post them even during the control. Not all countries in the world strictly adhere to this rule, but it is better not to risk it and pack food in your luggage.

Citizens with small children have the right to carry in hand luggage the baby food necessary for the child during the flight.

Medicines

Most common medications, such as cold or motion sickness medicines, are allowed as carry-on baggage in the cabin. Also, each passenger has the right to carry one mercury or electronic medical thermometer.

If the medicine is in the form of drops, spray or other liquid, then it must be transported according to the rules applicable to liquids - in a bottle with a face value of not more than 100 ml and not more than 1000 ml in total. If the medication you need for the duration of your flight exceeds this maximum, you will need to provide a doctor's prescription.

What should be the medical justification for airport employees?
This may be a prescription, an extract from the medical history or a certificate certified by the doctor's signature and the seal of the medical institution and confirming that these drugs are necessary for you. If you are traveling outside of Russia, the document must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

Always carefully read the ingredients of analgesics, sedatives, sleeping pills, cough medicines and heart medicines - they often contain narcotic substances. For example, among the components of painkillers such as Pentalgin and Nurofen Plus, codeine is present. And Corvalol and Valocordin, which are familiar to us, are completely prohibited for import into a number of countries of the world because of the phenobarbital contained in them.

As part of travel in Russia, these drugs can be transported without overlays, but abroad you will be asked to provide a medical justification. It will also be required if you need to carry strong drugs with narcotic and psychotropic substances, hypodermic needles, gaseous oxygen or air cartridges, tablets or spray with nitroglycerin. In addition, all such medicines must be transported in their original packaging.

Employees of the control service also pay attention to the quantity: 5 or more packages of the same drug can pass for a small wholesale. If you need to bring several packs of the same name, be sure to take care of the medical justification.

Alcoholic products

Alcohol is subject to the same rules as all liquids. This means that you can only take souvenir mini-bottles with a face value of no more than 100 ml, no more than 1000 ml in the sum of all liquids, into the cabin of the aircraft. The exception is alcohol purchased at Duty Free, which will be discussed below.

Shopping from Duty Free

Products purchased from Duty Free shops must be packed in a special sealed bag. The package must have credible evidence that the purchase was made in a duty-free shop at the airport or on board the aircraft on the same day or days of the flight. Violating the integrity of the package during the flight is prohibited. The number of purchases purchased in Duty Free is not limited. The amount of alcohol transported is regulated by customs services. Up to 3 liters of alcohol with a strength of up to 70 degrees can be imported into the territory of the Russian Federation for free.

Note: Most airlines carry packages from Duty Free free of charge. However, there are exceptions. For example, Pobeda Airlines charges an additional fee for each package carried in hand luggage from a duty-free shop. The amount of the fee is 2000 rubles. (for flights from Russia) and €35 (for flights departing from abroad).

tobacco products

The number of cigarettes transported is limited by the customs legislation of the country of entry, so it does not matter where you carry them - in hand luggage or in luggage. Up to 200 cigarettes, or up to 50 cigars, or up to 250 grams of tobacco can be imported into Russia. In this case, the passenger must be of legal age.

The same rules will apply if you are flying from Russia to the EU. However, if you are traveling from one EU country to another, then the limit for imported tobacco products will increase by 4 times - provided that it was purchased in the EU.

Sharp and cutting objects

It is forbidden to take sharp and cutting objects in hand luggage into the aircraft cabin.

Such things include: knives of any type and any length (except plastic ones), edged weapons (sabers, swords, checkers, etc.), straight razors, any blades (except for razors and cartridges for them), cutters, forks, screwdrivers, metal scissors with sharp ends, skates, ski poles.

Sharp and cutting objects do not include: cigar scissors, pieces of... supports, eyeglass repair devices, including special screwdrivers, knitting needles and sewing needles, cuticle removers, nail files, nail clippers, tweezers, safety razors and plastic knives.

Other items that fall under the category of "dangerous"

All types of weapons, self-defense equipment, construction tools, as well as explosives, explosive devices, combustible substances, poisonous chemicals, including items containing them, are prohibited for carriage in hand luggage.

Baggage

General checked baggage allowance:

  • For economy class passengers: 1 piece of baggage weighing up to 23 kg and not exceeding 158 cm3 in three dimensions.
  • For business class passengers: 2 pieces of baggage weighing up to 32 kg each and not exceeding 158 cm3 in three dimensions.

Baggage rules are not as strict as in the case of hand luggage, however, here it is important to keep in mind a number of requirements for certain categories of items.

Alcohol

The rules for transporting alcohol on an airplane depend on where and where you are flying from: each country has its own rules for the import and export of alcohol and the age at which a person is considered an adult, and, accordingly, has the right to purchase alcoholic beverages. Therefore, we will consider the most common situation, namely the import of alcohol into Russia.

In accordance with the rules of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, 1 passenger is entitled to carry up to 3 liters of alcohol with a strength of not more than 70% if he has reached the age of 18. In case of exceeding the specified volume (from 3 to 5 liters inclusive), the passenger must pay €10 extra for each liter. The container must be intended for retail trade, and its volume must not exceed 5 liters.

If you plan to import into Russia more than 5 liters of alcohol with a strength of no more than 70 degrees, then be prepared for additional expenses: alcohol must be declared, duty, excise and VAT must be paid. The purchase receipt must be kept.

Aerosols

Aerosol cosmetics, as well as personal hygiene products, are allowed in baggage if they are issued in containers of no more than 500 ml and their total weight / volume does not exceed 2 kg / 2 liters per passenger

Items that fall under the category "dangerous"

Matches, lighters, rocket launchers, gun fuses, gunpowder, explosives, explosive devices, combustible substances and toxic chemicals, including items containing them, are prohibited in baggage.

Note: do not put documents and their copies in luggage. It is also not recommended to take money, valuables, jewelry and papers, fragile items, keys into luggage. Of course, the probability of delay or even loss of luggage is small, but it is there. By taking all the most important things in your hand luggage in the cabin of the aircraft, you will save time and nerves in the event of a similar situation.

Exact baggage and carry-on requirements, as well as lists of prohibited items, depend on the requirements of the carrier, ticket class and flight route. When writing the article, we were based on the norms of the airlines most often used on our routes.

In law Order of the Ministry of Transport of Russia dated June 28, 2007 No. 82 (as amended on January 14, 2019) “On Approval of the Federal Aviation Regulations “General Rules for the Air Transportation of Passengers, Baggage, Cargo and Requirements for Servicing Passengers, Consignors, Consignees”” (registered with the Ministry of Justice of Russia on September 27 .2007 No. 10186)
in any Russian airline you can bring on board up to 5 kg of things free of charge. There are carriers that allow you to take 10 or 15 kg.

As a rule, the more expensive the ticket, the more things you can carry in the cabin. Usually, for flights in economy class, one piece of hand luggage is provided, and for business class - two. But here everything depends on the carrier: some companies have their own rules for each fare, direction, aircraft, while others have a single standard for everyone.

Dimensions are not prescribed in the law, so here each carrier can establish its own rules. Usually, bags with a size of 55 × 40 × 20 cm or with the sum of three dimensions equal to 115 cm are allowed on board. Such a suitcase will fit in the overhead luggage rack along with the hand luggage of other passengers.

You can also take a handbag, briefcase or backpack with things in excess of the norm. It is assumed that you will place them under the seat in front of you, so the allowed weight and dimensions may be less than for hand luggage. For example, up to 3 kg and not more than 80 cm in the sum of three dimensions.

Carefully read the rules on the company's website: if the weight of free baggage in excess of the norm is not indicated there, check it on the website or by phone.

Also, instead of an additional bag, briefcase or backpack, you can take for free:

  • bouquet of flowers;
  • outerwear;
  • baby food for the child during the flight;
  • suit in a suitcase (specify weight and dimensions);
  • a device for carrying a child (cradle, chair, stroller) - provided that you are flying with a child and can fit these things on a shelf or under the seat;
  • medicines, special dietary needs in the amount required for the duration of the flight;
  • crutches, canes, walkers, rollators, a folding wheelchair, if you can fit them in the cabin on a shelf or under the seat;
  • goods from Duty Free, if they are suitable in weight and dimensions and are sealed in a sealed package (specify weight and dimensions).

Rule of thumb: what you are going to take into the cabin should fit on a shelf or under the seat. Ask the carrier in advance how much excess hand luggage they will allow you to carry.

How are hand luggage checked at the airport?

If your hand luggage looks bulky, it will be weighed at the airport and the dimensions checked using a special frame. This is a plastic container or two walls in which your suitcase should fit. In this case, everything should fit, including handles and wheels.

Carry-on bag size checker / consumerreports.org

To avoid having to pay extra for hand luggage, choose soft bags or a backpack with drawstring straps that reduce the size of an already packed travel accessory.

Guide: baggage allowance and carry-on baggage of 10 popular airlines

Air carriers, in particular, low-cost airlines now and then tighten the requirements for hand luggage and baggage, forcing passengers to pay more. So that you do not get lost in the stream of constant updates of the rules, we have collected in one material the rules of ten popular airlines, the knowledge of which will allow you to save tens or even hundreds of euros.

Important nuances

  1. Check the rules of all airlines you will be using during your trip and make sure that your hand luggage and luggage comply with the more restrictive rules.
  2. Please note that you can buy tickets from and fly from. This happens when a code-sharing agreement is signed between companies. In this case, the rules of the airline whose code is indicated on the ticket apply. It is useless to prove at the airport that you did not know - you will have to pay for an excess or additional baggage.
  3. Many airlines check the dimensions of hand luggage using special devices at the airport. Everything that does not fit in the frame will have to be checked in as luggage (especially zealous ones take into account even handles that look out half a centimeter). We recommend that you check your hand luggage in advance - luggage is cheaper at the check-in counter than at the gate, it's even better to foresee this situation when buying tickets online.
  4. Important! Low-cost airlines do not have flights with transfers. Each segment of the route is a separate flight, so every time you need to pick up your luggage and check it in again, therefore, you also need to pay extra for it on each segment.

Liquids in hand luggage. Is it possible or not?

In total, you are allowed to carry 1 liter of liquids in containers with a maximum of 100 milliliters each. The volume of the container matters: a two-liter bottle, in which two sips of juice are left, will not be missed. All liquids must be placed in a transparent zippered bag (such as a ziplock bag for freezing fruit or a cosmetic bag) and presented for security screening if asked.

Liquids include:

  • roller deodorants;
  • shaving foam, shampoo, shower gel;
  • toothpaste;
  • perfumes and toilet water;
  • tonic, makeup remover, cream, mascara;
  • alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks;
  • medicines: eye, nasal and ear drops, oral solutions and tinctures, topical products, gels;
  • some foodstuffs: soft cheese, yogurt, pate, jam, honey, etc.
  • Travelers with children under two years of age. Food for the child (mashed potatoes, milk, juices, formula, etc.) can be in packages of any volume in the amount necessary for the duration of the flight.
  • Those who need to take medication regularly. In this case, you can take with you drugs in packages that exceed 100 milliliters, but do not forget to grab a certificate from your doctor.

What about duty free shopping?

Perfume, eau de toilette, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks from duty-free shops can be taken on board if they are packed with a receipt and sealed (do not try to drink whiskey down your throat on the plane).

Difficulties may arise if you are flying with a transfer. So, in the EU it is forbidden to import liquids in containers whose volume exceeds 100 milliliters if they are purchased outside the EU. That is, if you fly from Kharkov to Prague via Warsaw, at the transfer point, a bottle of wine from Ukrainian duty free is most likely to be confiscated. For those who travel within the EU, it is enough not to open the package and carry a receipt confirming that the purchase was made no more than a day ago. The last word in any case remains with the airport employee.

Can I carry food in hand luggage?

Yes, but if they are liquid, they will need to be packaged in 100 milliliters and packaged in accordance with the rules. Feel free to bring cookies, chocolate, apples, nuts or sandwiches with you on board, but make sure that your food does not emit pungent odors.

Can I take electronic devices on a plane?

Need to! You've seen how suitcases are handled at airports, right?

You are allowed to carry in hand luggage:

  • laptops;
  • Cell phones;
  • tablets and e-books;
  • e-Sigs;
  • cameras;
  • hair dryers, curling irons, hair straighteners;
  • electric shavers;
  • electric toothbrushes;
  • power banks.

What is prohibited in hand luggage?

In short, everything that is potentially dangerous for passengers and crew members due to its toxicity or can be used to attack.

  • liquids in containers with a volume of more than 100 milliliters (except those bought in duty free and properly packaged);
  • aerosols (hair spray, deodorant, mosquito repellent, etc.);
  • piercing and cutting objects: screwdrivers, drills, nails, corkscrew, sewing needles, blades, all kinds of knives, scissors, nail files, tweezers with sharp ends, knitting needles, etc. There are exceptions: sometimes it is allowed to carry a knife with a blade shorter than 6 centimeters or tweezers with rounded edges, if you have a certificate from a doctor, you can take injection syringes with you. But you need to be prepared for the worst-case scenario: if the thing is dear to you, put it in your luggage or leave it at home.
  • firearms and any of its imitations (lighters, children's toys);
  • adhesive tape, electrical tape;
  • explosive and flammable substances: gunpowder, firecrackers, fireworks, lighter fluid, etc.;
  • mercury thermometers (in some countries this restriction does not apply, but it is better to buy an electronic one and not worry);
  • skates, ski and trekking poles;
  • stun guns;
  • caustic and toxic substances: acids, alkalis, poisons;
  • bats, clubs, clubs, nunchucks, oars, skateboards, fishing rods;
  • gas and petrol lighters.

Can animals be brought on board?

Each airline has its own rules, so it's best to ask them in advance. For example, UIA allows only dogs and cats weighing up to 8 kilograms to be transported in the cabin together with the container. Larger animals are transported in the luggage compartment. Service animals fly free of charge (for example, guide dogs), for other pets you will have to pay at a special rate. The owner must have a medical certificate, documents confirming vaccination and an export permit.

How to transport musical instruments and sports equipment?

Sports equipment is usually transported in checked baggage or as oversized cargo, at a special rate (if we are talking about skis or snowboards, for example). Even a skateboard or tennis rackets will not be allowed on board, as theoretically they can be used as weapons.

Small musical instruments that do not exceed the allowable dimensions of hand luggage (flute, violin), some airlines allow you to take with you into the cabin. Everything else will have to be checked in.

How to properly pack hand luggage and what to do in case of overweight?

  • Put things that you will most likely have to get at security control (a laptop and other powerful equipment, a bag of liquids) on top, so that you can quickly remove them later. Neighbors in turn and airport staff will thank you.
  • Liquids must be packaged in containers with a maximum of 100 milliliters, remember? If what you want to take with you is not sold in mini-packages, pour over - the bubbles do not have to be “native”.
  • If you are taking medicines with you, it is better that they are in their original packaging with instructions inside. If you have sleeping pills, strong painkillers, psychotropic and injectable drugs, do not forget to take a prescription from your doctor with you.
  • Put everything of value in your hand luggage: documents, money, jewelry, equipment. And don't forget to keep an eye on your backpack at the airport, of course.
  • You should always take with you a power bank, warm clothes, medicines that you constantly take and a light snack in case of a flight delay.
  • Make sure you don't accidentally put anything on the prohibited items list. The author of these lines, for example, somehow threw scotch tape into her backpack, and then blushed and justified herself in front of the vigilant employees of the Kutaisi airport.
  • If you are flying with a low-cost airline, do not stuff your backpack to the limit. Leaving an empty space inside, you can tamp it down a bit and fit it into a frame with which to check the dimensions.
  • Weigh the assembled backpack or suitcase at home and make sure it passes the airline's regulations. If the excess was found already at the airport, you can put on something from the clothes packed in your hand luggage, put heavy small items in your pockets or pick up a camera, e-book, etc., if the carrier allows it.

is a question that interests passengers of many airlines. People do not always understand what belongs to this category of baggage, what things can be taken into the cabin, and what is better to leave at home or check in with regular cargo.

What is the essence?

First, let's look at what is considered hand luggage on an airplane. This is a special type of baggage that is allowed to be taken into the cabin of an airliner. For him, his own rules and norms of transportation are established, and depending on the rules of the airline. For example, economy class passengers get one seat, while business class and 1st class passengers get twice as much.

It is believed that the equivalent of one piece is a bag or backpack containing personal items. This is wrong. The main criterion is the weight of hand luggage and its dimensions. It is from these parameters that the carrier is repelled. There are a number of restrictions on such baggage, which may vary.

General prohibitions

Before checking in for a flight, it is important to be clear about what you cannot take on a plane. Speaking in general, the category of prohibited goods includes weapons, liquefied gases, as well as dangerous substances (radioactive, toxic, caustic). The category of prohibited items also includes explosives, liquefied gases, sharp objects, including household appliances such as wire cutters, a corkscrew, scissors, a folding knife, and others.

Below we will consider in detail what you can take in hand luggage on an airplane, and what things are prohibited in relation to food, cosmetics, medicines, digital equipment and other cargo.

Food

First, let's look at what is allowed to carry from food. As a rule, airlines restrict passengers in this matter, prohibiting the carrying of jelly-like and liquid food. But you can take with you:

  • Nuts.
  • Fruits.
  • Sandwiches.
  • Cookie.
  • Chips and other products.

If you are flying with a child, you are allowed to take baby food. If jelly, juices or yoghurts are found before departure, they will most likely be banned from being transported. This also applies to food that is packaged in jars. Those products that are allowed to be carried on board are recommended to be packed in transparent bags, which speeds up the inspection procedure.

Before departure, pay attention to the requirement of the carrier, because they may vary. Pay special attention to goods from DutyFree stores. They are allowed to be taken on a plane, but only if they are packaged in a bag and have a receipt on hand.

Cosmetical tools

Women are often interested in what they can take with them. from cosmetics. As a rule, carriers are allowed to bring into the cabin:

  • Blush.
  • Eyeliner.
  • Shadows.
  • Powder and other means.

As for jelly-like formulations, as well as liquids that are packed in containers larger than 0.1 liters, it is forbidden to take them with you. The only option is to transfer the items to checked baggage. In addition, pressurized cans are not allowed into the cabin. In this case, the total volume of liquids carried should not exceed 1000 ml. This nuance should be taken into account even before departure.

medical supplies

Another important issue is medications. You are allowed to take the following medicines as hand luggage:

  • Pills.
  • Hydrogen peroxide.
  • Dressing materials.
  • Various drops.

All funds should be sealed and carried with instructions for use. Otherwise, customs officers may have questions for the passenger, up to the need for a detailed inspection. If there is an injury, hand luggage can be supplemented with special means for movement, for example, crutches. With regard to the upper limit of liquids, the same rules apply here as mentioned above.

Digital equipment

According to the rules of air carriers, you can take digital equipment on board the aircraft - a laptop, player, tablet, camera, charger and even a hairdryer. But there is a limitation regarding the mobile phone. It can be carried into the cabin, but with a mandatory shutdown. This is for safety reasons, as radiation from mobile devices can interfere with aircraft electronics.

If you plan to carry large equipment that exceeds the allowable dimensions, it is better to check it out as regular baggage.

What about documents and jewelry?

According to the rules of airlines, it is allowed to take valuables, jewelry, wallets and important documents with you in your hand luggage. It is also necessary to take your passport with you so as not to accidentally end up in a foreign country without documents. There are situations when luggage does not fit on one plane and then it can be sent on the next flight.

Clothing and personal hygiene items

If we consider personal hygiene items, you can take a toothbrush and paste, a comb (without a handle), wet wipes and even nail polish remover on board the plane. At the same time, it is forbidden to take cutting and piercing things into the salon. This rule also applies to nail scissors.

From clothes you can take with you a coat, a jacket (sweater), an umbrella, a blanket and a shawl. In general, it is allowed to take almost all clothes, if it does not contradict the rules of the airline and does not exceed the allowable standards (dimensions, weight).

What are the weight and size restrictions?

Separate question - how much hand luggage can i take on a plane. Here, each airline has its own rules, which depend on the direction, ticket price, flight class and other factors. There are only two main criteria, namely dimensions and weight:

  • Dimensions. They should not exceed 56 cm in length, 46 cm in height, and 25 cm in width.
  • Weight. Here the requirements vary, and different airlines may have limits between 3 and 15 kg.

Results

Despite a certain similarity in the requirements of air carriers regarding hand luggage, some rules are strictly individual. For example, low-cost airlines that provide budget flights are stricter about hand luggage and allow you to take a minimum of things with you into the cabin. No more than one seat is allowed per person. More established companies will have fewer restrictions. In any case, it is important to clarify these points in advance, even before buying a ticket and checking in for a flight.
