Let's build the conversation like this: first, a small overview of the condition of the road, information about gas stations. Then a story about hotels (hotels, motels) in Rostov-on-Don and the Rostov region. Actually, this will become the main topic of the post, because for travelers traveling south and back, the Rostov Region is the most convenient region for an overnight stay. Firstly, for many this is the middle of the road, and secondly, the choice of cheap and good hotels here is good, like nowhere else. Checked for yourself. The condition of the roadway in the Rostov Region is generally satisfactory - there are very good sections, but there are also bad, sort of “unexpected” ones. One must constantly be prepared for places where asphalt has been cut, and when driving in, the car receives a decent blow. Here are some of the most characteristic photos.

The closer to Rostov, the worse the road
and the movement is richer. Trucks in this place generally behave unpredictably, they simply rush to the cars under the wheels without any turn signals. In any case, we experienced several absolutely inadequate antics of heavy truck drivers, and all here are in front of Rostov.
As a result, in front of the city itself we get into a tight traffic jam, where we see the sunset off. We are already arriving at the hotel in complete darkness.
For Rostov in the direction of the Krasnodar Territory, the roads are good.
Gas stations on M4 in the Rostov region
There are no problems with gas stations in the Rostov Region in the sense that there are many of them. There is good news - after Rostov (towards Moscow), Shell opened a gas station (based on the former Bashneft). And this is the first swallow. AT all Bashneft gas stations in the region will soon change their name to Shell. The owner has entered into a licensing agreement with the most successful and well-known fuel company. In general, the knight's move is understandable. Selling gasoline under such a brand is clearly profitable. What will be the gasoline on these Shells? And the former, Bashneftevsky, and the new - V-Power and V-Power Racing (with high octane rating).
But the main gas stations in the region (in decreasing order of their number) are Lukoil (market leader), TNCs and Gazprom.
As I already wrote, basically all gas stations are paired - i.e. are located opposite each other on both sides of the track.
Hotels on the M4 highway in the Rostov Region
Where can I stay on the M4 highway at night in the Rostov Region? There are hotels in Ka, Millerovo, Mines, Novoshakhtinsk, pos. Red Kolos, Rostov-on-Don and other cities and towns, I'm not talking about the numerous roadside motels along the way. The choice depends on the taste and preferences.
On our past trips, we stayed at the Tourist House Hotel in Millerovo, at the Meridian-South Hotel in the Red Ear, and the Visit Hotel in Rostov-on-Don. This year, two more Rostov hotels were added to our piggy bank - Don Major and Alpha. Briefly go over the pros and cons of these and other hotels. So, 4 settlements and 11 hotels (hotels) on the M4 highway:
Millerovo
A few words about Millerovo in general. This is a small (with a population of just over 36 thousand people), a cozy town located quite close to the border with the Voronezh region and, accordingly, far from its regional center Rostov-on-Don - 219 km., 3 hours drive (at best) ) We always call here on the way back. We buy food at Pyaterochka, take a short break on the way. It’s convenient - Millerovo is located not far from the Don highway and at the same time it’s a different, quieter life, and not crazy races on the highway. When there are many hundreds of kilometers ahead, this is sometimes necessary.
There are several inexpensive decent hotels in Millerovo - Tourist House, 858 km. (the first right turn between 857 and 858 kilometers of the M4, Millerovo highway) and Nadezhda (119 st. of the 3rd International). "858 km." - the budget option (from 900 rubles), "Hope" - the average price (from 2200 rubles). Hotel reviews are good. These, of course, are not fashionable hotels, but they are not any kind of bedbugs, places have been verified.

Mine
The city of Shakhty is a fairly large city in the Rostov Region (population over 237 thousand people), slightly remote from the M4 highway. From Mines to Rostov 84 km., Which takes about 1.5 hours drive). There are several hotels of different levels where you can stay on the road to the south and back, for example, Triumph, Dio Lakrua, Chalet, etc.
Room "Flamingo" (Junior Suite "Comfort"). The price of accommodation is 2,700 rubles. 
Alpha (address: Legal Street, 78) - very simple rooms, but in terms of price and quality - class! Rooms 1300 rub. Breakfast (very decent) is included in this price. In order to relax, sleep and have breakfast, an excellent hotel. Unless, of course, you are a person with a claim, an esthete. However, if you look at how many non-poor cars stop here with Moscow and St. Petersburg numbers, you will still experience some revaluation of values.
The hotel has its own small enclosed area, so that all cars are locked. In a 3-minute walk there is a very decent cafe "Park", so you will not stay hungry. Inhabit at any time of the day or night. We stopped at 5 o’clock in the morning. Recommend!
"Eurasian Business Center" (address: 16 Pluzhnaya St.). The hotel is only 5 kilometers from the highway (it is convenient to call in when moving south and back). Here you can relax in silence after a hard trip and gain strength for further travel. The hotel offers guests single, double, triple and quadruple rooms of different price categories. A cot in the room is available upon request (in the "Family" room there is + a sofa bed). Parking under video surveillance. Free internet throughout. Meals are not included in the price. For an additional fee, you can have breakfast (from 100 rubles), lunch or dinner in a cafe on the 2nd floor. Near the hotel there is a car service, ATM, grocery stores.

On Zelenaya (address: Mozhaiskaya street, 45/114) - the advantages include the hotel’s convenient location relative to the M4 highway, clean rooms, new furniture and sanitary ware, a modest but not bad breakfast. Cons - with seemingly all the common advantages, good equipment and other things, the lack of any comfort, or something. But this is the specificity of many transit hotels. Prices from 2 000 rub. There are family rooms for three people. For an overnight stay, the hotel can be highly recommended.

Just in case, I’ll tell you how we drove along the M4 highway, maybe someone will come in handy, a kind of report. So, the whole journey of 1,500 km took us 3 days and on the way we still drove to Divnogorye for a day, it is almost on the road. In principle, this route from Moscow to Gelendzhik / Sochi / Anapa can be overcome in a day (18-25 hours), but I am not a fan of such long movements in one sitting, especially at night and when there is nobody to change you, the risk is unjustified. Driving for 500 km is the most, the driver does not lose concentration. In addition, we perceived the trip as a trip, so there was nowhere to hurry.
If you want faster and without stops, then it is better by plane (via /), indeed, faster and at the same time much safer. Moreover, when it comes to vacation in a couple of weeks, not so many things are needed with you, for a family of three people should have 3 suitcases of 20 kg each. But here is the master master, as you like. We went for a month, or even more, so we need a lot of junk with us and a car in place for movement.
Brief impressions
Our route has changed a bit in the end. We decided to call in Anapa to stay on the sandy beaches for several days, but in the end we got stuck here for rehabilitation, which we managed to fit into on the last day. Therefore, we will be in Anapa for another 3 weeks, and then we will move towards Gelendzhik in (if not cool) and in Sochi. Well, if nothing changes again.
After our last such trip to Gelendzhik 2 years ago, I wrote a whole suffering post about. It’s just right to rewrite it. How difficult it was to go then, it was so much easier now. Everything is relative. Yes, Yegor still does not sleep in a car seat, but he can sit in it all day! Unless, of course, he constantly throws up fun :) Still, he became calmer and you can already at least take something, for example, with Lego, who we bought right before the trip. And now it was necessary to stop for one afternoon sleep, and not for two. In general, I was very afraid of repeating the previous time, but it did not happen. It’s more difficult to ride with a child than without him, but it’s already quite realistic and even for us. Especially if you go with an overnight stay.
Toilets with their parking lots and smoking wagons remain the most top impressions, unfortunately, nothing has changed in this regard over 5 years. From the pleasant - the road became better, and the expanses around the gaze did not disappear anywhere. But more about that below.
The route Moscow-Voronezh-Rostov-Anapa-Gelendzhik-Sochi
If you go with two nights, then the most optimal will be stops in the Voronezh region and in Rostov-on-Don. Thus, the path will be divided into 3 sections of 500 km. On the one hand, these cities are full of housing on the same (follow the link my detailed post about the service and bonus 20 $), on the other hand, entering the city and leaving it takes time, therefore, to save it, it would be better to stay in roadside hotels rather than inside the city.
Please note that there is an opportunity to save in the city, since a normal apartment costs 1,500-2,000 rubles (I recommend the apartment,), and a comparable hotel will cost two times more.
As an option, plan the route with only one night, for example, leave Moscow from the city during the day, get to Voronezh in the evening, spend the night in front of it at the hotel, and move on from the early morning immediately to the sea. Or plan a single overnight stay in front of Rostov, where the route passes through several settlements where there are motels and housing for private traders.
Picky travelers can generally spend the night in a tent, anywhere along the way (in forest belts), and "truckers" drive 18-25 hours without rest and overnight. I personally do not want to risk my family, so I try not to make big hauls, as I get tired and lose concentration, especially at night. Yes, I could drive these 1,500 km in one sitting, but I don’t see the point.
If the final goal is Sochi, then without a break to go around the Tuapse-Sochi section is not very pleasant, there are serpentines, traffic jams, and this segment can take a decent amount of time, 2-3 times more than usual (if compared with gentle sections). Ideally, drive through it early in the morning, while there are few cars, or at night. When I was traveling to Sochi, the average speed was 45 km / h, there were sections with one-way traffic (repairs), plus trucks, although they sometimes miss on the hills, but in general they still couldn’t drive fast. Only closer to Sochi and after it is normal speed. In settlements (and they are all over there) there is often a limit of 40 km / h, on the highway 70 km / h.
In Gelendzhik, I usually go through Dzhubga, I like it there more, a calm road, but there is an option to go through Novorossiysk. It is better to go to Anapa, leaving the M4 highway 100 kilometers after Rostov to the village of Kanevskaya, and then drive through Timashevsk, Slavyansk-on-Kuban, adhering to the Temryuk direction, but the road there is so-so. After Slavyansk it will be necessary to leave for Anapa.
Travel time
As I wrote above, it all depends on how much you want to spend the night on the road and whether you want at all. We went there together with our family, so we did 2 nights, as a result, the road took 3 days at a very relaxed pace.
I went back alone (the family flew by plane) from Adler to Moscow. I got in 26 hours, of which about 5 slept in the car. That is, the road itself took 21 hours. Quite normal, I think. Somewhere for 20-25 hours and it is worth counting, excluding long sleep stops.
M4 highway
Stripes and coating
On the way to the Black Sea, I already traveled several times, hitchhiking round-trip, and 3 times by car. The track is slowly but changing for the better. First of all, almost made two strips in each direction from Moscow to the Hot Key. But, unfortunately, there are still sections with one lane. For example, in the Voronezh region near the villages of Losevo-Pavlovsk-Verkhny Mamon, a site about 70 km long. Moreover, there is no repair, just a strip in each direction and there is no hint of expansion. And another piece closer in Rostov region. Also, repairs are underway in the Rostov region after Rostov-on-Don between the villages of Samarskoye and Kushchevskaya (a piece of about 40 km). Even in the Rostov region, a metal separator with an oncoming edge periodically disappears, the markings disappear, bumps, cracks and so on appear (driving already in the dark, quite inconvenient), however, as in the Voronezh region. In fact, the best piece of M4 between Moscow and Voronezh, in theory this should be all over. Will wait:)
After Goryachiy Klyuch, one-lane traffic with a periodic lane for overtaking. She appears there quite often. From Dzhubgi to Tuapse, the same pattern is approximately the same, only a small serpentine and the third lane is quite rare. There is a concrete serpentine from Tuapse to Sochi and there is almost no way to overtake. There is also one lane from Dzhubga to Geledzhik, but there is almost no serpentine, so the site passes quickly.
From Rostov to Anapa there is a one-lane with a bunch of trucks and old KamAZ trucks, and only after turning from the Temryuk highway to Anapa do they disappear. We tried to get around the navigator bypass roads (we traveled from Rostov to Azov and then to the detour of cities), but in some places there is a bad road, the distance is generally longer, but plus that there are few cars. Won or not, I don’t know.
Fines and cameras
There are a lot of cameras along the road, so running into a fine if the speed limit is not respected is not a problem. But it’s for the better, we will all be more alive. Everywhere I was moving at a speed of a maximum of +15 to the allowed speed, that is, if 90 km / h is allowed, then I drove 115 km / h. Everywhere, except paid sites, just such a restriction. On paid ones, it’s 110 km / h and on one of them as much as 130 km / h (that is, you can drive 145 km / h if you wish).
For the whole trip back and forth I received only one fine for 500 rubles. Somewhere in the Voronezh region I was driving instead of 83 km / h in the village. Strange, usually there I certainly slow down.
Paid areas
In total, there are eight paid sites on the M4. All of them are between Mosca and Voronezh, but they plan to do more. Visually, they are almost no different from other sections of the route, I did not notice any serious differences. The permissible speed of 130 km / h was made on only one piece, on the remaining 110 km / h, as on the rest of the M4 segment, which is positioned as a highway.
For the price: 35-120 rubles per plot, at night the tariffs are cheaper. Moreover, on one of the sites it is necessary to show the check again at check-out, so do not discard the checks.
Travel and refueling
We mainly stayed at Lukoil, because there is a civil toilet, minimarket, playground and tables on the street for snacks. At least in the first half of the M4, Lukoil gas stations are equipped just like that, then they go already smaller and without such a set. On the map, just in case, I noticed a very large Luikoil after Voronezh, where you can eat normally and stand in the shade. In previous Lukoils, there were only coffee / tea and buns in the cafe, and here there are straight dishes.

The territory of this gas station was very large and many stood at its far end, where there is a shadow and benches with tables. So, so as not to go anywhere, the people immediately relieved the need for the partition, from which there was a wild stench, the heat. Surprised not even laziness to walk 100 meters to the toilet, and the fact that the stench did not bother anyone, people there sat quietly and ate. Hmm.
If someone does not know, then there are also parking lots along the way. But to put it mildly, they are not very pleasant: a lot of garbage and dead toilets to death. Moreover, if there is some infrastructure at the parking, for example, illegal cafes, then there is much more sracha. Therefore, it is better to stop for a break, either at gas stations, or simply along the way in a forest belt, or at parking lots where there is no cafe. And also such a mini-life hack, if you still decide to go to the red brick toilet, then it’s better not to go to it at the parking lot, go to the bus stop, they are also there, but cleaner.
Other nuances
I noticed such a feature, the flow on the left lane goes somewhere 140-160 km / h, on the right 80 km / h. Therefore, if you want to drive 100-120 km / h, not one of the lanes is suitable, you have to always change from one to another. Inconvenient, however.
After Rostov-on-Don, a one-lane road hit me, but this is more relevant for those traveling to Anapa, Temryuk, (Port Kavkaz), that is, leaving from the M-4 to the right. We drove this last segment for a very long time, continuous wagons (apparently they are going just to the Port Caucasus). Trucks are killed, not only do you drag along 50-60 km / h, but also in puffs of smoke, no cabin filters can save. What if I had asthma? And it’s hard to overtake, the stream is continuous. First, the permitted load is exceeded, loading the goods 2-3 times more by weight, so that the car cannot crawl up the hill and is killed, and then they buy a state maintenance ticket, although this is no longer a machine, but a steam locomotive, and drive on.
For some reason, Megaphone catches pretty badly along the entire road. You stop at the gas station for Yegor to sleep and eat, at the same time you want to check your mail, post a photo, and the Internet is EDGE at best, that is, almost dead. In Rostov-on-Don, in the very center, exactly in the place where the apartment was rented, the same situation (the next day the quarter drove off and it worked). On the road Timashevsk-Slavyansk-on-Kuban-Anapa H + almost did not appear. In Dzhemete (a village near Anapa), 3G and H + are also caught in places. I remember in 2011 was with us, I still made notes along the way, outlined, because it was impossible to post anything, it's a pity that little has changed since then.
Radio everywhere, to put it mildly, is an amateur, either Russian retro or chanson. You need to take discs or a flash drive with you. And by the way, not every radio receiver will steadily catch a signal at such distances from large cities.
Yandex Navigator leads in the shortest way, even if it is a primer, there is no choice “fast” or “short” there. And, if you don’t really need a navigator to travel around M4 (there’s nowhere to get lost there), then for inspecting any neighborhoods away from the highway, it’s better to use normal navigators. At me they all left with a change of phone, it is necessary to reinstall.

The condition of roads in Russia is a separate topic familiar to all motorists. Somewhere they are better, somewhere worse, but in general the picture is not too bright. However, there are separate sections that are simply created in order to rush with the breeze. One of these is the federal one - Voronezh. This greatly facilitates the movement between cities, which means that the number of motorists on it will always be quite large. And since the distances have to be covered very decent, night rest becomes relevant. Therefore, motels are located along the entire length of the route. The M4 is a busy freeway, especially familiar to travelers.
Criterias of choice
It is impossible to list all hotels and pensions; more than 1540 km is the length of the M4 highway. Motels are located every few kilometers, so travelers will not have a problem with an overnight stay. To reduce the number of frames to one article, as well as give the traveler real guidance, we will limit the choice to the following criteria: availability of parking, free cancellation option, proximity to the highway and comfort.
Moscow region
We will consider it in separate sections, due to the enormous length of the M4. We begin to consider the motels directly from the capital. And the first on our list is the Yamskoy Hotel. It is located in the village of Yam, st. Postal, d.17, Domodedovo. Of the benefits include spacious rooms and free parking. In addition, the location itself is very convenient for the traveler. He stands right on the M4 highway. Motels are also more distant from it, but they are not quite convenient for a person who is tired of the road.
Another plus is the location near the airport, so it is perfect for air travelers. Of the minuses - the rooms are quite noisy, this can easily be explained by the proximity of a busy highway.
Hotel Don
This cozy hotel is located 13 km from MKAD. The hotel is located on the third floor of the road service complex. The building is equipped with an elevator, so you do not have to pick up personal items manually. All rooms are equipped with modern furniture, household appliances, always each has a bathroom. The number of rooms includes double, triple and quadruple rooms. The cost of living starts from 2500 rubles. Hotel Don provides round-the-clock room reservation service, which is very convenient. On the ground floor there is a cafe. In addition, the complex includes a car service, which is extremely convenient for those traveling by car.
Pension "Sokolova Deserts"
And we move on. Stupino is 79 km from Domodedovo Airport. Once you reach it, you can relax in a great place. This is not just a hotel, but a recreation center among a pine grove. In addition to comfortable rooms, guests can also use ski equipment, so you will have something to do in your free time. It offers wooden cottages and cozy rooms with a fridge, satellite TV and a private bathroom.
Sokolova Pustyn offers its guests to visit a cozy dining room and bar, as well as a mini market. There is a games room with billiards, table tennis and darts. On-site activities include fishing and hiking. The cost of living is from 2200 per day.
Tula region
And we continue to consider roadside hotels and move further along the highway. At the 143 kilometer you will find a motel "Slavic". The cost of living is from 2500 rubles per day. Convenient conditions for parents with children. Toddlers under 7 years stay free of charge without a separate bed. True, if you book not a full house, but a separate room, you will have to use the toilet in the hallway. Of the benefits, tourists note the courtesy of the staff. The cost of living can be reduced due to the lack of hot water and other inconveniences.
Hotel Ryabinushka
At 238 km of the highway there is another cozy roadside hotel in the suburbs of Boroditsk. The cozy complex includes 15 rooms with all amenities. Each of them is equipped with modern furniture and high-quality plumbing, a TV. The hotel has a very good cafe where visitors can order a full meal. Truckers stop here quite often. They are attracted by low prices and excellent food quality. In addition, there is a car wash and laundry, shower and tire service.
Motels on the M4 in the Voronezh region
Even a novice driver can easily drive 300 km in a day, so let's move a little further along the highway, up to 518 km. Here is a small hotel "Maximum". It is located just 20 meters from the motorway, but perfect soundproofing allows you to relax in your room. It offers individually decorated rooms with air conditioning and a large TV. All apartments have a private bathroom. Free parking is provided, as well as laundry and ironing services.
Grand hotel
The cost of living is from 3100 per day. Looking at the motels on the M4 highway, I really want to highlight this small and comfortable hotel. It is designed for only 10 rooms. And the choice here is from the simplest to the most luxurious, which is surprising for such a tiny hotel. Private parking is available and free Wi-Fi is available throughout. The furniture is very good, the plumbing is new. Reception is open 24 hours a day. Of the minuses - the lack of breakfast, you need to look for where to eat. Given this point, the price may seem quite high. But the service is at its best.
Hotel "At Mikhalych"
And also the second one, called “At Mikhalych 2”, is the motels on the M4 highway, which are located very close by. Both of them are located at 520 km. Room rates start at 1600 rubles. Great offer, given that each has a toilet and bath, air conditioning and TV. Visitors note that each room is very clean and tidy, the staff is polite. On any issue, you can contact and get advice. There is a cozy restaurant with delicious barbecue and home cooking.
Hotel "Okolitsa"
It is located at 524 km, in the village of Podkletnoye, on Solnechnaya street, house 1B. There are 11 rooms in total, each of which can become a home for you for one or two days. They are equipped with air conditioning and a TV, as well as cozy furniture. The attentive attitude of the staff and comfortable booking conditions complete the picture. Only 30 minutes separates the hotel from the center of Voronezh, but here you will not be bothered by the bustle of a large metropolis.
Be sure to pay attention to this hotel if you are traveling around there at every step, but not everyone is ready to provide the same conditions. It has its own laundry room, well equipped. Rooms are cleaned daily and smoking is not allowed on site. The cafe will delight you with an abundance of traditional, Russian dishes and a varied menu. You can purchase ready-made meals on the road.
Rostov region
Motels of the M4 highway are a topic for the whole treatise, since there are really a lot of them. Even strict selection will not allow them to be reduced to an amount that can fit in the size of the article. Next on the list is the “Eurasian Business Center”, which is located 2 km from Ostrovsky Park. It features a restaurant and free parking.
The cost starts from 600 rubles per day, the reception is open around the clock. The hotel has a games room where you can play a game of billiards or darts. A huge park, which is located very close, offers opportunities for walking.
Meridian South
It is located at 1040 km of the M4-Don highway. The motel offers its guests to stay in comfortable rooms, one-room or two-room. The cost of 3900 rubles per day. But if you take into account the tourist orientation of this regional center, then the price is quite reasonable. The entire territory is under video surveillance, there is a large area with landscaping for walking and recreation.
The cafe offers its guests a wide selection of dishes of European and Russian cuisine. The cafe is open daily from 06:00 to 02:00. Guests are served delicious breakfast. In summer, there is an open veranda. Children under 4 years old are accommodated for free, and up to 6 years old with an extra charge of 300 rubles. Of the minuses can be noted underfloor heating. For some it’s good, while for others it’s too hot.
Hotel Rodina
At 1076 km, 10 km from Rostov-on-Don, in the vicinity of the Aksai district, this hotel is located. To visit it, you will need to drive off about 100 m away from the highway. Elegant, three-story building with natural stone trim, made in the German style, it attracts attention from afar. Decorative architectural lighting beautifully emphasizes building elements at night.
Pretty big hotel, which consists of 54 rooms. All of them are equipped in accordance with the requirements of the modern tourism industry. On the floor there is a cooler with hot and cold water, and the rooms have tea, coffee, cream, sugar and mineral water. For a comfortable stay here you will find a double bed, bedside tables, work desk, air conditioning and LCD TV, telephone and minibar. Terry slippers and all hygiene items are provided.
Of the pluses, I want to note the possibility of pets, as well as free parking. Children under 12 years old can stay for free without a separate bed.
Venetsia resort
This hotel equates to a resort. If you are looking for a place to not only spend the night, but also relax, then this is the best option for you. Of the minuses, there is a railway bridge nearby, which means that it will be difficult to sleep with an open window. You can walk to the beach in five minutes.
