How to get from Ataturk to the center of Istanbul. How to get from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to the city center. Taksim Square - Taksim Meydani

Istanbul has two airportsataturk International Airport (or simply Ataturk) and sabiha Gokcen International Airport, named in honor of the adopted daughter of the “father of all Turks” Sabiha, Turkey’s first female military pilot.

If you plan to stay in the historical center of Sultanahmet or in the business district of Taksim, it is more convenient to fly to Istanbul at Ataturk Airport - it is located in the European part of the city 24 kilometers from the main tourist area.

Sabiha Gokcen Airport is located in the Asian part of the city, 35 kilometers from the historical center, where it is customary to settle with tourists. Therefore, the road from / to Sabiha is much longer and will cost more, especially if you decide to take a taxi. This should be borne in mind when booking a ticket to Istanbul and choosing an arrival airport (some Russian airlines fly to Ataturk, and some to Sabiha).

Also, no matter what airport you fly from Istanbul, you must remember that, no matter what kind of transport you use, enormous traffic jams and transport overlays are possible along the way (with the possible exception of the metro). In addition, the airlineTurkishairlines Strictly complies with the rule that registration for international flights is closed no later than 60 minutes before departure. Given the possible traffic jams on the way to the airport, the lines for inspection at the entrance to the airport building and for registration, whichTurkishairlines total for all flights of the airline (commoncheck- in), many passengers are simply late and have to pay in full or in part the ticket for the next flight. This is important to know, especially when planning a departure from Istanbul by the Turkis.

So, from Ataturk Airport to get to Sultanahmet:

By metro + tram

This is one of the fastest ways, which in the case of large traffic jams in Istanbul (and they happen all the time) is also the most reliable. Travel time is approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

After passing through passport control at the airport, you need to focus on pointers to metro. After a rather long journey by signs, you will arrive at the airport ataturk Havalimani Metro Station. Once you get on the subway, you need to take the train going towards Aksaray (it is impossible to make mistakes and take the opposite direction, since the airport is the terminal station of this red line). You need to go to the sixth station after the airport - Zeytinburnu. At Zeytinburnu, transfer to t1 light rail heading towards Eminonu or Kabataş(pay for the fare again with a token or pass a card through the turnstile for several trips). A tram passes through the entire historical center of Sultanahmet, and you just have to get off at the stop nearest to the hotel you booked.

From Ataturk Airport to get to Taksim:

More options on public transport:

By metro + tram (as described above - ataturk Havalimani metro => transfer at Zeytinburnu station to T1 light rail, then get to the Kabataş stop) After exiting the tram at Kabataş, you then need to use the funicular (F1), which will take you directly to Taksim Square.

Metro - Ataturk Havalimani metro => 17 stops on the red line to the final Yenikapi, where to transfer to the green line M2 and get a few stops on it to Taksim station (the square of the same name).

Due to the number of transfers and travel time (up to two hours), both methods cannot be called convenient.

Therefore, if your hotel (in Sultanahmet or Taksim) is located far from public transport, you doubt whether it can be easily found, you have bulky luggage, you travel in a group of two or more people - then we advise to order taxi-transfer in advance with a large international company.Such a transfer will prove to be a more reliable method and often costs much less than a taxi directly at the airport. In addition, Istanbul taxi drivers do not try to “cheat” you, since the cost of the trip is known in advance and will not change (without unpleasant surprises). It is also convenient that the driver will wait at the airport at the exit of the arrivals area with a sign that says your last name.

Ataturk Airport is considered the main air hub of Istanbul and Turkey as a whole. It is here that the majority of aircraft of various airlines flies. It is located in the central part of Istanbul. It has two terminals: for domestic and international flights. There is an underground connection between the terminals.

In Istanbul there is another airport, which is slightly smaller in size - Gokcen. It is located in the western part of Istanbul. Many people wonder: how to get from Ataturk Airport to the center of Istanbul? We will consider the answers to it in the framework of this article. The following transport is at the disposal of visitors:

 • metro;
 • buses
 • taxi;
 • rented cars.

Ataturk Airport

Asking the question: “How to get to the center from Istanbul Ataturk Airport by metro?”, Pay attention to the following recommendations. You can easily get to the center using the services of the Istanbul Metro. In the center there is a red metro line, which is considered the first in the city. You will pass over the city and enjoy its view. Download a map of trams and trolleybuses to your smartphone, this will help pave the way for unfamiliar terrain.

If you want to get to the cultural center of the city, you will have to come to the Zeytinburnu metro station, and then follow the tram at number T1, which will take you to the most interesting sights of the city, where you can spend a pleasant evening and take a few photos as a keepsake. The metro in Istanbul is open from 6 a.m. to 00:30 a.m. If you arrived in the city late at night, then you will have to use another mode of transport.

A travel token costs only 3 lira. If you have a travel card, you will be charged only 2 lira. You can get to the airport using the Marmarai underwater tunnel, which is located in the Asian part of the city. To get to the destination, you need to get to the Yenikapi station, and then go to the red metro line and proceed to the final one. By metro, you can get there quickly, cheaply and without traffic jams, which are common in Istanbul.

Bus ride

You can get to Ataturk Airport using the comfortable Havatas buses. The fare is 12 lire. You have the opportunity to get to the right place in just 35 minutes, provided that there are no big traffic jams. So it’s better to have enough time left.

If you are going to ride around the city often, it is best to buy a travel card that is suitable for all types of transport. This option is most beneficial for frequent trips, because the city has many attractions.

Travel options from the airport to the center of Istanbul

We get to the airport by taxi

Taxis are not considered a cheap way to travel, because the price of a taxi in Istanbul from Ataturk Airport is approximately $ 35. The exact amount will directly depend on the distance. Based on this, the best option would be a bus or subway.

If you choose a taxi, then pay attention that the meter is turned on, because the driver may not specifically activate it, and after that demand a large amount from you for the trip. You can solve the issue with the price in advance. Take advantage of the KiwiTaxi taxi ordering service and nobody will deceive you.

Taxi drivers have day and night rates. Nightly rates are generally higher by 40% daily. Each kilometer of travel costs 2 liras, and during landing 3 liras will be taken from you. Remember that you may be late for check-in at the airport due to traffic jams. In a situation where the road is every minute, it is better to choose the subway.

Rent a car in Istanbul

You can rent a car at Ataturk Airport, because there is a good selection of companies that make deals on favorable terms. If finances allow you, then you can rent an expensive car. You can also book a car using the online service. To do this, there is a special service called Skyscanner Car Hire.

Friends, good day to all!

I think you already know that for more than 2 years now I have been working with the established communication Crimea-Turkey, in spite of all international communities.

Several times a year I visit sunny Turkey, but I still couldn’t manage to land at the New Istanbul Airport. Each time, such an opportunity disappeared from the hands of the next reprieve of the Turkish authorities on the transfer of the country's main air harbor from the old Ataturk Airport.

And then, finally, in May 2019, I managed to make a transplant here “at the entrance” to Turkey and fully comb through its territory “at the exit”.

I was lucky because I managed to catch the airport on alert, which until April 2019 could not be fixed. In a nutshell, I liked the airport very much.

So, the results of my observations with information about terminals, circuits, cafes with photos and reviews.

How to get from the airport to Istanbul and back from it I will write in a separate article.

Let's get started!

A couple of dry data to comprehend:

 • Airport Code: IST (and the Ataturk Airport got a new ISL code)
 • Name: Istanbul Havalimani - Istanbul Airport (and for now)
 • Address: Tayakadın Mahallesi, Terminal Caddesi No: 1, 34283 Arnavutköy / İstanbul.
 • Official site: istanbulhavalimani.aero
 • Opening: October 29, 2018
 • Transfer of all flights from Ataturk Airport: April 6, 2019 (the date was postponed 4 times November 2018, January 2018, March 2018)
 • Date of completion of construction: 2023
 • Number of destinations: 180 (expandable to 350)
 • Number of passengers: 150 million per year (with ambitions up to 200 million)
 • Order transfer upon arrival
 • departures and arrivals
 • What can I import and export from Turkey (money, alcohol + visa, vaccinations)

New airport outside

On approach, if not for the azure expanse of the Black Sea, it might seem that we are landing in some desert in Arizona. A lot of uninhabited space that will contribute to the future expansion of the airport.

The scale of the development of structures is simply amazing. Here you will not only have planes and passengers, but also warehouses, depots, parking lots, developed infrastructure and even a mosque under construction.

The idea was to build not just an airport, but an air hub between the continents.

The old Ataturk airport did not have the potential for expansion, and was made, to put it mildly, “chaotic”. And here! The new airport was built with ambition and a margin for growth, but even now it covers an area of 7600 hectares!

And visually aesthetically, the new airport is a complete delight!

From April 5 to 7, several hundred quickly transported here more than 10,000 pieces of equipment from the old airport.

A big plus of the new building is that the same complex is used for international and domestic flights. The ability to get lost during transplants is minimal.

One gripe on my part is that because of the size of the complex, the runway is located far from the terminals. Therefore, skiing for 20-30 minutes is not news.

I heard a joke on the Internet that planes are still landing at Ataturk Airport and are traveling to the New Airport on the ground.

Today, 4 runways are involved and plans to open 2 more.

Where is

If before arrival it seemed to me that the airport was in a God-forsaken place, then it turned out that this was not so. Almost close to its territory, one of the districts of Istanbul crept up - Arnavutkoy and to the Black Sea coast nothing.

The distance to the center of Istanbul is about 40 km and so far only a highway has been drawn here.

At the beginning of 2020, the city authorities promise to complete the metro line M11, which will be able to transfer you from the business part of Istanbul in the Levent area directly to the airport.

Today, communication with the city center is carried out using buses and taxis that operate 24/7.

The location of the airport is best seen on Google map.

The advantage of choosing such a location is the undeveloped area, the proximity of the Black Sea and the motorway that directly connects the airport with the Third Bosphorus Bridge.

Airport plan

As I said, the airport is executed on a grand scale, but according to a rather simple scheme. There are several levels, the main of which are the level of departures and the level of arrivals under it.

A garage is located even lower, from where several dozen buses make flights in all directions of Istanbul.

You can move between floors on elevators and escalators.

Opposite the main building there is a multi-storey car park with 40,000 places, half of which is covered.

The building itself and the entrances to it look very impressive and harmonious. Attention is drawn only to the increased number of police in uniform and without, with and without guns.

That is why I did not get out the camera, because in Turkey they are very jealous of taking pictures at train stations and airports. In Antalya, they somehow forced to delete all-all photos with them.

Terminal layout

The location of the central hall and terminals at the airport is crystal clear. For an early fixation of the airport plan in my head, I recommend think about a bug or a spider .

So, the body of the beetle is the central hall. And his paws are departure and arrival zones with gates A, B, D, F, G (domestic flights).

Missed gate C, located between the paws B and D and there are only 4 gates. The same situation with E, which you will find between the legs D and F.

At the Central Concourse you will find a lobby with areas for check-in for B-S (not to be confused with a gate for boarding), self-service check-in desks, waiting rooms and packing areas, and even baggage re-packing.

Since both international and domestic flights are operated from the 1st general hall, the check is carried out side by side. The entrance to domestic flights is on the right, and on international flights in the center.

After you have passed the verification of documents and things, you need to check with the beautiful and rare departure board and find out which wing your landing will be in.

Focus on the fact that you will be standing in the middle and the wing D will be right along the course. Wings A, B and C will be on your left, and wings E and F on the right.

You can get into them overcoming the temptation to buy something in stores.

Each wing-paw has up to 18 gates, the path to which will need to be overcome with the help of travelators. But previously descending to the floor below the escalator.

According to my calculations, the path to the farthest gate, for example, from B1 to B18, takes less than 10 minutes, and from the inspection area to the furthest gate - less than 20 minutes.

Airport building

On the network, I met some reviews that not everything is smooth. That repair is not finished, the coating is cheap and is already cracking. In the article you will find my personal photos, and in the end I will throw you a video from the airport.

I did not find any obvious flaws and shortcomings.

I liked the airport very much: bright, bright, understandable and comfortable. Heaven and earth with obsolete morally and physically old him. Ataturk.

Everywhere you feel the space and scale. The halls are designed wisely and with a margin. Perhaps if you fill the declared number of passengers here, then everything will be different.

But now everything is just great.

Docking at the airport

Given that this is one of the largest airports in the world, and this is your first time here, I recommend not to waste time on transplants. 2 hours seems to me a necessary minimum.

But, if this is not so, do not despair. Personally, I got 1 hour at the exit, and I arrived at the landing gate at the very beginning.

The fact is that at the start I laid myself on the dock Odessa-Istanbul and Istanbul Izmir 1 hour 20 minutes. But the plane from Odessa landed seemingly on time, but another 20 minutes rolled us around the airport.

Moreover, the plane first stopped and after standing for a couple of minutes, began to ride. Passengers took this as a signal for the charges and we drove for 20 minutes with standing people in the aisles. This is my first nonsense.

Usually, the flight attendants would have torn the first physiognomy to rise, and the ship's commander in all known languages would have called for order.

And then ... yes, what's the difference, anyway, already on the ground))

Transit and Transplant

The key to success will be the study of the airport terminal layout and knowledge of the departure gate for your next flight.

You can be either let out of the plane directly into the sleeve or delivered to the airport building by bus from a remote parking lot. Somehow, there’s still not enough room for all the gates.

Now you need to carefully examine the plates and wrap either on Transfer, on either Baggage claim.

I had a transplant, but on an internal line. I had no luggage, so I immediately went for the transfer. After Ataturk was struck by the number of working windows and the lack of queues.

If you need to go out into the city (towards Baggage Claim) or transfer to domestic flight in Turkey (Domestic Transfers), then you will have a document check. For those who transfer to international lines (International Transfers), verification of documents is not necessary.

10 minutes and I'm already running in the direction of Terminal G, which is the only one reserved for Domestic Flights.

Given that I didn’t have luggage and didn’t go out into the common hall, it took me 25 minutes to run around from gate to gate. Another 20 minutes the plane rolled. In total, I still have 30 minutes left before departure.

But the more I would not risk it. 2 hours to dock so that the nerves are in order.

If Istanbul is your final destination, then I congratulate you on your arrival. Print or save our guide "" on your phone and go on to get to know the city!

Here's a good tip video:

Security Zones - Security Check

As in the old airport, the 1st inspection zone is located at the entrance to the building itself. Verification is superficial. You will only be asked to roll bags through the tape and remove everything from the pockets.

The 2nd inspection zone is already at the entrance to the departure zone before passport control.

It's all the old fashioned way: remove everything from the pockets, liquid up to 100ml in a transparent bag, laptops and tablets to remove from the bag (sometimes they ask to be turned on) and will be asked to take off their shoes if you have a high heel.

For a couple of years now I have not carried a belt with me when flying, but it is in Turkey that I am constantly asked to take it off. It seems that according to their beliefs, a man without a belt is that a woman without a bra is found, but very rarely))

When transferring to another flight, you will also be met by the inspection area.

All services at the New Airport

The airport was created with an eye to the future, so there is where to take a walk. Especially the developers paid attention to children, families and people with reduced mobility.

And a mere mortal will not be bored.

Duty free shops

A huge number of shops Duty free located on an area of 55,000 square meters in the central zone of the airport on the departure floor.

How much are the prices here different from the airport. Ataturk I will not say, but not cheaper for sure.

In addition to standard stores, perfume, cigarettes, booze, there is a peculiar Old bazarwhere you can buy souvenirs, sweets, silk, overseas. Prices, of course, neither the Grand Bazaar nor the Spice Bazaar ever dreamed of.

Local Turkish brands are also represented. For example, a full store LC Waikiki, but with prices in euros.

If you saved on time and do not have time to shop in the central zone, then do not despair, each terminal has its own small Duty free shop and not one. So you won’t be left without a cologne.

It is interesting that upon arrival and transfer from an international flight to your home, as I had, you will also go through Duty Free.

In general, just buy, and the opportunities will be in bulk.

Business lounges and lounge areas

The new airport is located on the second floor in the central part of the departure zone. Entrance to them is in the wilds of stores with Duty Free goods.

By the way, there are 2 lounges here: on the left for program participants, and on the left for business class passengers.

But if you also wanted to visit the second floor and admire the halls from above, but you have no priorities, then do not despair.

You can walk in the center of the hall from the shops with perfumes to the left towards the cafe and there by escalators go up to the 2nd level.

There are few species tables, but also for the people. Along the way, not everyone knows about these places.

If you go nowhere hunting, then you can lie on soft carpets and pillows right in the center of the room. I don’t know if there is enough space for everyone, but there weren’t a lot of people with me.

Cafes and restaurants at the airport

Food prices are a double-edged sword. Compared with prices at other airports in Europe, it’s not expensive, but if you compare with the city price level, it could be cheaper.

For a 50-60 lire, you can have a good lunch, and drink coffee with a cake of 25-30 lire. But beer prices are not really overpriced here. Keep this in mind.

Personally, I brought some snacks to the airport and bought only coffee. Prices 10-18 lira for cups of various filling.

By the way, in my terminal D was located Burger king with good prices. But I don’t eat that))

Tax Free, ATMs and Currency Exchange

The number of concise and beautiful racks with a refund and currency exchange is more than enough. They came across to me at every turn. So do not run specifically around the airport in their search.

32 ATMs are located in the departure zone and 16 more ATMs in the arrivals area. Do not forget about the passengers in the transit zone. They also stuck such devices there with a dozen.

Free wifi

There is Internet at the airport and it is very easy to get it through SMS or a downloaded application. Enter the number and you will receive a code via SMS-ke. Free work time 2 hours.

But there is also the Internet in different cafes.

Smoking

According to the good old Turkish tradition, smoking at the airport is possible on open terraces. There are a total of 14 smoking areas. Not bad huh? And 5 of them

The terraces, however, do not have panoramic windows, but are surrounded by a fine mesh. But, nevertheless, a breath of fresh air can be snatched if there are not many smokers.

Search the sun icon and sign for signs Teras or ask your nearest airport officials.

Luggage storage, pharmacies and hairdressers

At the departure level in the check-in area there are electronic luggage lockers. I myself did not find them, but people write that prices are from 30 lire for the first 6 hours of storage. Not fraternally, although in Europe and not such prices are found.

At the airport there is a pharmacy, which, incidentally, was not in the old airport, and the opportunity to receive medical care around the clock.

There is even a hairdresser and shoe shine machines. And in the arrival area there will be shops of mobile operators where you can buy a starter pack and recharge.

Toilets and prayer rooms

They are often found and there is no need to find them. If you do not have time to escape in the center of the hall, then you can find several toilets in any wing for departures.

Buggy and carts

You can use the buggy to move around the airport. The description indicates that this is a paid service. But the girl at the information center suggested that I jump into the squad and not take a steam bath.

True, I did not wait for the driver ...

Carts according to the good old Turkish tradition are paid. But all the money up to a penny will be returned to you if you return the cart to the right place.

Deposit Fee 1 euro or 5 lira. You can even pay by credit card!

Hotel nearby hotels

The airport has one of the largest and best in the world. premium hotels Yotel : 277 numbers in front of the passport control zone for all comers and 174 numbers only for transfer passengers of international flights. Prices from 140 euros per night for two.

And here are a couple of hotels nearby for you to note:

 1. Park Inn by Radisson Istanul Airport Odayeri 4 * - luxury hotel 13 km from the airport. You can order a transfer or taxi. Prices from 130 euros for a double room.
 2. Istanbul Airport Durusu Club Hotel - cheaper option. Club hotel with a swimming pool and chic territory. You can also get by taxi or book a transfer from the hotel. Price for a room from 45 euros with breakfast. A great option for those who do not chase the stars.

Free Tours from Turkish Airlines

As before, Turkish Airlines continues to provide passenger entertainment services for long transfers.

For tech who has planned layover of 6 hours or more , you can take advantage of the offer for free to see Istanbul. And if the transplant is night, then spend the night in one of the hotels for free.

There are several excursions Touristanbul from the new airport:

 • 08:00 – 11:30
 • 08:30 – 15:00
 • 08:30 – 18:00
 • 12:00 – 18:00
 • 16:00 – 21:30
 • 18:00 – 23:00

If you do not want to leave the airport, and the transfer takes more than 5 hours, then you can get a food voucher at the airport at the Care Point counter in the international departure hall at the A2, D1 and F1 gates.

Free hotel from Turkish Airlines

But here it’s already interesting and you won’t be able to spend the night on the ball. Let's get it right.

First, let's make it clear:

 • stopover - This is a free-will stop in a transit city more. Usually over 24 hours
 • layover - This is a forced stop in a transit city, based on the flight schedule.

So, there are 2 options for getting a spherical hotel, when the hotel should be yours and when the hotel can provide you.

You must provide the hotel

If you have an international flight with Turkish Airlines layover more than 12 hours (9 hours for businessmen), then you must provide the hotel. What to do? After receiving your luggage, you go to the arrivals hall and turn right. Go almost to the end until exit 13.

What are the conditions of the hotel:

 1. The flight should be international with a change at Istanbul's New Airport
 2. 12 hours of real time between landing and departure, not scheduled. Those. if the plane was delayed a little on arrival and you now have no 12 hours between flights, then the hotel is not allowed
 3. If TA has several flights in this direction and you specifically chose a flight with a long layover, then the hotel will not be provided to you. Unfortunately.
 4. Even if there is theoretically a flight before, but tickets for it are sold out, the hotel is not for you.
 5. If you are entitled to a hotel, then you will also be provided with transfers and meals.

You mean, the hotel is an apology from the airline for the shitty schedule and they have something to work on. I am sure that over time, we will see fewer and fewer cases of receiving a free hotel.

Here on the slide is the option when the hotel will not be available to you, which ticket you do not choose:

You can offer a hotel

This is another matter and the conditions here are more loyal for passengers. If you stopover (stop at will) more than 20 hours in Istanbul, you can get a hotel in the city center for free.

To do this, you will also need to go to the Hotel Desk counter, (BUT!) After writing a letter to the company no later than 72 hours in advance with a request for such a service. Where to write and what to indicate, see the official page of Turkish Airlines.

Hotel Terms of Service:

 1. A ticket must be issued round-trip for international destinations with a transfer in Istanbul from 20 hours
 2. You can use the service only 1 time either there or there.
 3. You also have no right to apply for an excursion, but you can privately apply to the counter during the flight without spending the night at the hotel.
 4. If your stay in Istanbul is less than 24 hours, you can check in your baggage immediately to your destination. If more, then you will be forced to take it with you.
 5. The passenger pays for travel and meals on his own.

So think for yourself what you should do. To find out how to get to Istanbul from New Airport,. And to know what to do during a short stop, see our guide "" and choose one of 2 routes.

Good to know

Did you know that now you can’t carry mobile phone chargers in your luggage ?! I did not know…

Friends, I think we figured out the airport. Let me remind you once again that the airport is simply gorgeous, bright and very understandable. Arriving after him at Amsterdam airport was heavenly torment for me.

Look carefully at the terminal diagram once and you will never get lost again. By the way, the airport has information desks with poisonous plans and schemes.

Next time we will talk and how to get back from the city. Subscribe to blog updates and you will not miss anything.

Articles for review:

Good luck with your flights, fewer delays on your flight and our guide "" on your trip!

One of the topical points in planning is the transport issue or transfer - how to get from the airport to the hotel? Today we will analyze several methods, their advantages and disadvantages.

To date, international and domestic flights arrive at two airports: and Sabiha Gökçen Havalimanı Airport.

At the moment, there are several ways to get from airports to hotels located in Sultanahmet and within the historical center of Istanbul.

At the moment, you can get from to in several ways: HavaIst buses, public transport, taxi and order.

The most convenient and comfortable is pre-arranged - a driver with a sign meets you, helps you with your luggage (which is important if you are tired and travel with children) and takes you to your hotel without expectations.

You can also use a local taxi, which is parked in abundance - go to the taxi stop and go to the place you need. The fare from the New Airport to the old city of Sultanahmet is 135 lire.

A more convenient and more economical way are the HavaIst buses of the ist-1S route (stop on the 2nd floor of the airport), which goes to Sultanahmet and drops off passengers near and. .

There are also public transport routes that stop at the airport. But despite the fact that travel on them is cheaper than the same HavaIst, buses make many stops and are not equipped with a separate place for luggage. Thus, you may have to ride in a hug with a suitcase to the subway or transport interchange. Therefore, municipal buses are the most inconvenient way to get from the airport for tourists.

T1 Trams in Sultanahmet

Public transport in Istanbul is well developed - it is used by a large number of tourists. Therefore, to independently explore in his area, I recommend using the T1 tram - you can get to all interesting historical places on it, or walk.

How to get from Sabiha Gokcen Airport to the hotel in Sultanahmet or Kadikoy

Buses Hawabus - a fast and inexpensive way to get from Sabiha Gokcen Airport

There is currently no subway line from Sabiha Gokcen Airport. Therefore, from here you can get to the hotel by bus Hawabus, by taxi or by arranging a transfer in advance.

From Sabiha Gokcen air harbor to Kadikoy, the journey will cost you 14 lire (travel time 1 hour), and a trip from the airport to Taksim Square will cost 18 lira (travel time 1.5 hours).

This method of transportation should be chosen by those who have small luggage and who are then ready to transfer to other vehicles. For families with small children or older people, this type of transfer will not be convenient.

It should also be borne in mind that traffic in Istanbul is quite dense, so do not be surprised if the bus gets stuck in traffic.

You will have to get from Taksim Square to your hotel either by taxi or by public transport - it can be a metro, bus, taxi or underground tram - depending on where your hotel is located.

What to look for when using a taxi in Istanbul, you can read a little higher. Here we note that from the Sabiha Gokcen airport to hotels in the Kadikoy region the trip will cost 100-110 lire, to Sultanahmet the fare will cost about 125-135 lira.

Transfer

You can book and pay for an individual transfer in advance - on the website of the most popular Kiwitaxi service, you can arrange a trip without any problems.

Enter the departure point, select the car option (from economy class to premium), fill in the flight data (as on the ticket), passenger's full name, mark additional points and proceed to payment.

Taxi in Istanbul - fast but not always profitable

Yellow cars with the inscription TAKSI can be found not only near airports, but throughout the city - near bus stops, crowded places, near hotels, etc.

In what cases is it worth using a taxi? If you have heavy luggage and public transport is not possible. Or you are tired and there are no forces to go with transplants. And also, if you are used to using a taxi in different countries and you are not confused by the possible nuances and ignorance of the English language by the driver. This type of transport may not be suitable for families with small children - Istanbul taxi drivers do not differ in accurate driving, so you should not wait for a calm and comfortable trip.

Initially, the counter (which must be present in the car - otherwise I do not recommend using this taxi) is the number 4 (Turkish lira), then the payment is calculated for each kilometer of travel (2.5 Turkish lira / km).

What to look for when using a taxi in Istanbul

Tip 1. First, you can clarify the approximate cost before the trip - you can show on the map or on the phone the place and address where you need to get to.
For example, the cost of a trip from Istanbul's New Airport to Sultanahmet Square will be about 135 lira, to Kadikoy 160 lira.

The cost that you see on the taximeter at the end of the trip is the total fixed cost, regardless of the number of passengers (1 or 3).

Tip 2. When you got into the car, make sure that the meter is working and the number 4 is lit on it (price per landing). The taximeter is located either in the rearview mirror or at the bottom, closer to the gearbox. As soon as the taxi starts moving, the number on the counter should change. If the taximeter is turned off / broken (according to the driver) or already shows 25-30 lire in a minute - it is better to ask to stop the car and refuse to travel.

At night, the taxi driver must turn on the light

Tip 3. The fare must be paid in Turkish lira, preferably in small bills. Exchange big money - you should have 5/10/20 denominations in denominations.

When you transfer money to the driver, it is better to play safe and indicate the amount transferred, for example - forty lira (40 lira), or kirk lira. You need to do this so that it is not possible to deceive you, pretending that you took not 40 lira, but 20, and then demand more from you.

Therefore, just in case, we write:

 • 20 lire - yermi lira
 • 30 lira - otuz lira
 • 40 lira - kyrk lira
 • 50 lire - ally lira
 • 60 lire - altmysh lira
 • 70 lire - yetmish lira
 • 80 lire - sexy lira
 • 90 lira - doxan lira
 • 100 lire - user lira

You can calculate the approximate fare for a taxi on the service (English version) of taksiyle.com by entering the point of departure and destination. In fact, the cost may vary by 10-15 lire, taking into account traffic jams and bypass roads.

Tip 4. In the evening and at night, when it is already dark, the driver must turn on the light in the cabin. If for some reason he doesn’t do this or refuses to turn it on (saying that he’s not working) - this is an occasion to refuse to travel in this taxi.

The lights in the cabin are turned on so that it is clear whether the car is busy or free. The second reason is the desire of the police patrol to see who is in the passenger capacity and what is happening inside the car.

Transfer in advance

The transfer is a pre-ordered trip on the route. The driver meets you in the area closest to the place of arrival (or at the specified address / hotel), helps you load your luggage and takes you along the shortest route to your destination. You have already paid for everything and you don’t worry about how much the trip will cost you, or that you will have to explain to the driver exactly where you need to get.

Who is suitable for this type of transfer?

 • If you are a woman and travel alone.
 • In case you are traveling with the elderly or a family with children.
 • Those who do not want to strain and prefer to comfortably and without problems get to their destination.
 • By the company - then the payment can be divided into all (you will know the amount in advance when placing the order).

You can use it - this is a convenient online service for ordering a car, operating abroad and in Turkey as well. I give an example of this particular service for the reason that you can arrange your trip and pay for it in advance, which is very convenient.

Nevertheless, when planning an independent trip, you need to reduce the time and effort to organize and transport movements to the maximum, so that you can safely enjoy the trip.

It is also worth saying that in Istanbul (and throughout Turkey) there are no very cheap transfers - you need to consider that gasoline is more expensive here. For the summer of 2019, the cost of a liter of gasoline is almost 7 lire.

Immediately I note the point about the transfer from the hotel - as a rule, such a service at hotels costs more than the same Qiwi taxi.

In order to arrange a transfer to Kiwitaxi, you do not need knowledge of foreign languages, since the site interface is in Russian, plus a fairly large selection of cars of different classes.

You can arrange the transfer quite quickly - you have chosen the car option, then fill in the data: enter the flight number, date and time of arrival (as indicated on the ticket), destination (hotel / street / address). We check the boxes if additional services are needed - for example, a child seat, fill out contacts and proceed to payment.

The order is placed, confirmation must be sent to your email. You don’t have to worry about how you will get from the airport to the hotel and go on planning your route around Istanbul.

Should I use the bus when traveling from the airport?

I intentionally did not indicate such a method of transportation as a bus - although it relates to public transport, it is difficult to call it successful. If you just move around the city between historical monuments - this is acceptable. But in case you are traveling from the airport, tired and with luggage - this method should not even be considered.

 • Firstly, it will be difficult to find empty seats, due to the large number of passengers.
 • Secondly, the probability of getting into traffic congestion is very high - your trip from an hour can easily turn into a two-hour trip.

After that, you still have to go for some time on foot with a suitcase.

When planning a route, do not forget that the traffic in Istanbul is very dense

When ordering a transfer or planning a trip by taxi, take into account the fact that traffic is quite dense in Istanbul, so it’s better to leave half an hour or an hour before getting into a traffic jam and miss a plane.

By 2020, it is planned to complete the construction of the metro line going to the New Airport. This will greatly facilitate the planning of an independent route and will become an alternative to Hawaist buses.

Metro from Ataturk Airport to Istanbul

Independent tourists will be happy to know that there is a metro line directly from Ataturk Airport to the center of Istanbul. The M1 metro line runs from Ataturk Airport (metro station Havalimani) through the central regions of the European part of Istanbul to the Aksaray bus station. Travel time to Aksaray is 30-35 minutes. The metro runs every 6-10 minutes from 06:00 to 00:00. When leaving the airport from the arrivals area, always look where the metro sign leads.

At the Aksaray metro station, you can transfer from the red line M1 to the blue tram line T1, where you can get to the main ones: Sultanahmet and Sultanahmet Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, European Station.

Taxi from Ataturk Airport to Istanbul

You should be very careful with a taxi from the airport in Istanbul: there are frequent cases of cheating, especially for women passengers. My friend, for example, had only dollars with her, a taxi driver took her to the center, took $ 100, did not give change, turned around and left. Therefore, if you want to take a taxi, I advise you to remove the Turkish lira from the ATM and, just in case, rewrite the taxi number, and also make sure that the driver turns on the counter. The fare to the center by taxi at different times of the day can vary greatly, because if you get into a traffic jam, the meter will still tick.

It’s even easier to take a taxi out of place, but pre-order a taxi transfer over the Internet in a Russian company. A Russian-speaking driver will meet you with a sign and take you to your destination without any problems. The fare will be fixed and will not increase, and on the site you can immediately calculate the price of the trip. A taxi ride will be much more comfortable than using public transport, and you will be taken directly to the door of your hotel.
