Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Airport. How to get from Kuala Lumpur Airport to the city center and back. How to get between KLIA and Subang airports

Recently, we needed to find out how to get to Kuala Lumpur Airport from the city, because we had a flight from the capital of Malaysia to Jakarta. It turned out that the information on many sites is outdated, and this threatens with unnecessary spent nerves and time, so we will describe here our experience and the current situation in early March 2016.

There are three airports in Kuala Lumpur: now it is KLIA and KLIA 2, that is, Kuala-Lumpur International Airport is the first and second, as well as Subang. The fact is that a couple of years ago the flights of low-cost airlines took over the old LCCT, but now this function is performed by KLIA 2 - the world's largest terminal for low-cost airlines, built specifically for them. And KLIA accepts flights of Western airlines, from the countries of the Middle East and so on.

All of the following works in the opposite direction, that is, from Kuala Lumpur Airport to the city.

How to get to KLA Lumpur KLIA Airport?

There are several ways to get to the airport from the city, and it’s good when you can choose which is more important - time or money.

High-speed train KL - KLIA

The fastest option! High-speed trains leave from KL Sentral and go to the airports KLIA and KLIA 2. There are two types of trains: Express and Transit. Their difference is that the express travels non-stop in 28 minutes, and transit makes 3 stops along the way: Salak Tinggi, Putrajaya and Bandar Tasik Selatan and overcomes the distance to the airport in 35 minutes.

The fare is 55 ringit (25 for a child) on both Express and Transit Train. Until December 2015, the cost was 35 ringit, but then they increased it by as much as 50 percent!

Express Train to Kuala Lumpur Airport

Express Train runs every 15-20 minutes, the first and last train from KL Sentral at 05.00 and 00.40 respectively, from KLIA 2 - at 04.55 and 00.55.

Transit Train runs every 20-30 minutes, the first and last train from KL Sentral at 04.33 and 00.03, respectively, from KLIA 2 - at 05.48 and 00.59.

When traveling to an airport, trains first stop at the first airport, and then at the second. Tickets can be bought upon arrival at the airport or at the box office at KL Sentral.

Bus Kuala Lumpur - KLIA

The cheapest and at the same time quite convenient way to get to your plane - we rode that way. Buses depart from several points in the city:

From KL Sentral. This is a major transport hub in the center of the capital, where you can get from different parts of the city by metro, monorail, city bus. Airport Coach buses depart from the ground floor. The navigation there, unfortunately, is not very clear and there are no large signs, just ask the employees for a bus to the airport if you can’t figure it out.

Departure time is every half hour from Kuala Lumpur to the airport from 05.00 to 23.00, in the opposite direction from 05.30 to 00.30. Travel time is approximately 1 hour, depending on the situation on the roads.

The fare is 10 ringit ($ 2.5 at the rate for March 2016), either at the box office at the bus stop.

On the ground floor in KL Sentral - bus stop for the airport

From Puduraya terminal. This terminal is located near Chinatown, so if you stayed there, this is probably the most convenient way. Transportation is provided by Star Shuttle. The first flight to the airport leaves at 03.15 at night, and the last at 00.30. In the opposite direction - the first from the airport at 05.00, the last at 02.15. Buses run every half hour.

The fare is 12 ringit ($ 3), and the journey takes about 1 hour 20 minutes.

From your hotel.Airport Coach can arrange a transfer to Kuala Lumpur Airport directly from the hotel, it will cost 25 ringits. Or you can ask at the reception, although they usually offer it themselves :-)

There is also a free shuttle bus between the airports.

Taxi to Kuala Lumpur Airport

The fixed price for a budget taxi from the airport in Kuala Lumpur is 75 ringits. I recommend taking red and white taxis, they are with a counter. Or you can in advance. As always, this option is beneficial for a company of 3-4 people.

How to get to Kuala Lumpur KLIA 2 Airport?

Here, in general, the methods are similar, but I will tell you more about them.

Kuala Lumpur High Speed \u200b\u200bTrain - KLIA 2 Airport.

I wrote about trains above, when going to the airport, there will first be a stop at KLIA, and then at KLIA 2. The cost and timetable are the same.

Bus to KLIA 2 Airport

From KL Sentral.   Transportation is carried out by two companies - Sky Bus and Aerobus. Their racks are located on the ground floor.

The first is the official carrier for Air Asia, and a ticket from the airport to the city can be ordered even when buying tickets, in which case they will cost 7.2 ringgit. Only in case of change of plans it is impossible to return them. The usual cost is 10 ringit, you can buy tickets at the box office, or at.

The first bus leaves at 03.00, the last at midnight, they go every half hour. From KLIA 2 airport, the first bus at 05.00, the last at 02.45.

Aerobus has a similar bus schedule from Kuala Lumpur to the airport, tickets can be bought at the box office for 11 ringit, or on the website for 9 ringit.

From Puduraya.   Star Shuttle buses also run at KLIA 2 airport, the fare is also 12 ringit, see the schedule above.

How to get from KLIA to KLIA 2 and vice versa?

Free shuttle buses run between airports. Alternatively, you can catch the Transit Train, which takes you 2 ringtones in a couple of minutes.

How to get to Subang airport?

The Subang airport, or as it is otherwise called Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, is used by the Firefly airline, which operates domestic flights to Malaysia, as well as to Indonesia, Singapore, Phuket and Koh Samui in Thailand.

You can get from Kuala Lumpur to Subang Airport on SkyPark Coach buses from the Pudu Sentral bus terminal for 9.3 ringgits. There is also a regular U81 Rapid KL city bus, the last of which is under the LRT Pasar Seni station. The fare is 3 ringits, and on the way 40 minutes-1 hour.

Friends, enlighten, plz.
I have 2 hours 15 minutes from arrival to departure.
I fly to the international KLIA, departure of AirAy from KLIA2. A visa is not needed. There is luggage.
I know about the express that runs 3 minutes from one airport to another.
But how much time can it take for all formalities (access to passport control, baggage claim)?

I know about the express that runs 3 minutes from one airport to another.

Express takes 3 minutes, but the interval at off-peak times can be about 15 minutes. In the summer at KLIA we waited a lot of luggage for about 40 minutes, but passport control passed quickly. We also could not check in for an Air Ayesha flight from a hotel in Kuala, we thought that we could do it at the self-check-in kiosk at the airport. Yeah, schaz. None of the kiosks worked, I had to go to the front desk with luggage and check in there. Fucked 20 ringit for 2.

I realized that it makes sense to register on the Air Ash website to check in on-line in advance. It seems to be free.
In addition, as I now found out, there is also the opportunity to make changes to an already purchased flight: change the date or time of departure. True for a very fee)
What I’ll have to do now ... Stupidly I’ll postpone the flight an hour later, so as not to twitch and catch it.
I’ll manage in 3 hours? Or lay even more time?)

MariSha_K, Tsilyathank you and help

There is very little time, end to end! Most likely you are not arriving with Malaysian Airlines. Then you telepath in the second KLIA terminal. All other airlines are served there. From it you need to take an automatic train to the main building, and this will take about 15 minutes in total (waiting, landing, unhurried trip through the airfield), pass passport control, and get luggage.
Then, although following very understandable signs, find the shuttle in KLIA2, get there and check-in (check in your luggage). Subtracting the check-in closure 1 hour before departure, you have only 1 hour 15 minutes. We have not yet considered the possibility of delaying the first flight! I would not risk it. Better to wait a bit than sweating swept, jerking around the airports!
If possible, change the ticket. Such a docking is at least 3 hours!

I choose the flight from Asia Asia from Beijing to Melbourne with a change in Kuala Lumpur. First time in KL. There is an option with a change of 1 hour 30 minutes, and the second - 13 hours 50 minutes. Which is better to choose. Arrival from Beijing to KL at 8s 40 min. Departure to Melbourne in the 1st case - at 10-10 a.m., and in the second case at 22-30 a.m. Are there any risks with a one and a half hour connection or will land anyway, because Is there a single ticket to Melbourne?
I understand correctly that baggage will be checked in before Melbourne and I don’t need to receive it in KL, I do not need to hand it in, i.e. Can I go to town?

Are there any risks with an hour and a half docking

Theoretically, there is always a risk that the first flight will be delayed. But if you have a single ticket, then sooner or later they will take you to the place. :)
It makes sense to take a long dock if you want to see Kuala Lumpur - a pleasant city, the more you get free time in the afternoon. You can even capture Putrajday along the way. If in a hurry to Melbourne, take a short dock.

Good afternoon.
We plan to fly from St. Petersburg via Dubai with an Emirates flight to Kuala Lumpur.
And then on the same day fly a slice to about. Pennang.
  While watching tickets from AsiaAir.

1. Is there a flight from Dubai and a flight to Pennang in one terminal?
  2. Which a / c is better to fly to Pennang?
  3. Do I need to pay / pay for baggage?
  4. What is the best time to plan a transplant?
With English, it doesn’t matter with us.

Kuala Lumpur is cool, you can hang out there, catch your breath, restore the climate.) Yes, Air Asia has one airport, the terminal has only its own, so take more time to dock (but it’s better to clarify since I flew to the Philippines))). Asians all stripes are asked for a surcharge, always did so, stuffed a suitcase with the required weight and took the rest on an airplane. In Asia, knowing the language is not particularly important, the main thing is to try to speak. Airlines, see local, Malaysian.

I fly from Beijing to KL (Terminal M is indicated on the ticket), then Air Asia fly to Singapore. Have questions:
  1. Is terminal M the main KLIA terminal?
  2. Do I have to go through passport control after arrival and then at KLIA2 Terminal upon departure? Logically, I’m a transit passenger - I don’t seem to need to go through passport control. But they assure me that to get to KLIA2 you need to go outside the airport. Without a stamp, this is not possible.
  3. Where and how to buy a train ticket to KLIA2? Well, or by bus?

Good afternoon!
We arrive in KLIA at 15:30, at 18:20 there is already a plane to Langkawi island from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (we plan to get to this airport by taxi). That is, the docking is 2.9 hours. Do you think we have time? Or change the ticket?

oh I do not know...
we have 3 hours connection and departure from the same airport (KLIA), there is an online check-in 48 hours before departure, I bought a seat right after the business, so I’m afraid to leave among the first ones :(
time to get to the building itself, passport control, get luggage, google shows 42 minutes by car to the airport you need and there are sections of the road with traffic jams, there again everything is covered, and how much does it cost to register? what do they write? Is there an online registration?

LCCT stands for Low Cost Carrier Terminal, i.e. Terminal for low cost carriers in Kuala Lumpur. Low cost Airlines flying from here, both domestic and international. And inexpensive ticket prices are achieved by total savings. For example, at LCCT, passengers themselves get to the plane from the Airport building on foot ...

I already wrote about KLIA Kuala Lumpur Airport in general (visa regulations, customs regulations of Malaysia, etc.). You can find all the useful information. in the article about KLIA

The LCCT terminal is a separate KLIA terminal.

IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW!

A passenger departing from Kuala Lumpur needs to look ahead of time on the ticket from which terminal his flight departs: KLIA, KLIA2 or LCCT!

Despite the fact that all three terminals of the Airport (KLIA, KLIA-2 and LCCT) are located, in fact, on the same territory, only KLIA has direct rail links to Kuala Lumpur. Special buses run between KLIA and LCCT. A KLIA and KLIA-2 are connected by an automatic monorail mini-train Aero train - we have never seen such a thing at any other Airport in the World.

Directly from Kuala Lumpur to the LCCT terminal can be reached by taxi or express bus.

Taxi on the counter will cost about 80-100 ringgit (about 20 euros). Without a counter, it will be significantly more expensive.

Travel by express bus costs 10 times cheaper: 8-10 ringgit (about 2 euros) per person. Buses depart to LCCT from the KL Sentral station.

We could not get on the train from Kuala Lumpur towards Langkawi

Therefore, we traveled to the Langkawi island in the classical way - by Air Asia from the LCCT terminal. Fly just an hour.

Tickets for the whole family cost us about 140 euros.

But let's take it in order.

Leaving the China Town 2 hotel in Chinatown, we reached the Pasar Seni subway station on foot (walk less than 400 meters). There is only one stop to the KL Sentral station - the fare for the metro is 1 RM (0.20 euros) per person.

From KL Sentral, you can take the train to the KLIA terminal in 30 minutes, or take the express bus to any of the three terminals in 1 hour.

If the railway ticket office is located near the exit of the metro, then the bus station is located at the lower level of KL Sentral directly next to the buses. Tickets for the express bus to LCCT cost us 10 RM (2.15 euros) per person. They did not pay for the children, although they occupied all four back seats of the bus.

The whole hour trip to the Airport, we admired the views of the city from the window and the endless landings of palm trees in the suburbs.

Close to the airport territory is the Sepang race track - here in a few days the Malaysian stage of the Formula 1 race was to take place. At the fork in the highway, the buses in KLIA turn right and in the LCCT turn left.

The LCCT terminal serves both international and domestic flights. Accordingly, going to the Malaysian island of Langkawi, use the entrance for domestic flights (Domestic Departure).

After entering the terminal building, there will be automatic machines for check-in for the flight.

You must register yourself and only then go through baggage control and check it in at Check-In desks.

Do not forget about the weight restrictions of baggage and hand luggage at low cost carriers! With this, low cost airlines are strict. On a parallel counter, overweight passengers hurriedly brought the weight back to normal, shifting their belongings ...

After the Check-In racks, you must return to the entrance and pass through passport control in the Domestic Departure Hall, located to the right of the entrance. In general, despite the fact that the terminal is designed for low-cost airlines, it is very decent in contrast to low cost- Manila Airport Terminal 4

Here, quality service and quite decent lounges. There are shops and restaurants.

The fact that you need to walk to the airplane on foot doesn’t particularly bother ... It’s interesting for a change.

Where else will you be allowed to walk between the planes along the runway?

To do this, special pedestrian crossings with signs.

And already from the desired pointer is landing on the plane.

Well, here we are ...

Langkawi, wait for us in an hour!

From the international terminal of the airport you can reach the city by train, bus and taxi.

Bus

Traveling from the airport by bus is the most budget. The bus stop is located in Block C across the road from the terminal, you can get there using the elevator or escalator. Tickets are sold at the box office, the journey will take 1-1.5 hours, depending on the presence of traffic jams.

1. Airport Coach buses run to KL Sentral station, current schedule and prices on the carrier’s website (www.airportcoach.com.my).

2. Star Shuttle buses go to Chinatown to the PuduRaya bus station, as well as for a fee to hotels. Route and prices here: www.starwira.com

A train

The fastest option to get to / from KLIA airport is by train.
Departure from the station, located on the first floor of the airport.
There are two types of trains to KL Sentral station: KLIA Ekspres is only 28 minutes away.
The KLIA Transit route is the same, but the train has 3 stops at the stations Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya, Salak Tinggi, and accordingly, its travel time to the final destination is 35 minutes. The cost of train tickets is 35 ringgit (11.25 S). Tickets can be purchased both in advance on the website and before the train leaves. Schedule and Interval: www.kliaekspres.com

Taxi

Taxi, as elsewhere, is the most convenient, but also the most expensive way to travel.
Kuala Lumpur Airport has the official taxi of Airoport Limo Taxi Airport. Taxi stands are located in the international and domestic arrivals hall, as well as in the baggage claim area. Having paid a fixed amount of 70 to 100 ringgit (22.5 - 32 S), depending on where the passengers are going in the city, with a payment receipt and car number, they are sent to the parking lot. A taxi ride that is not related to the airport will cost more.

Airport KLIA LCCT terminal - Kuala Lumpur

Bus

A bus stop is located opposite the main entrance, several shipping companies offer their services to passengers.

1. SkyBus company - official Airasia buses, ticket price 8.5 RM (2.7 S). When buying a ticket on the airline’s website, you can simultaneously book a bus ticket, then the price will decrease by 0.5 S. The terminal station is KL Sentral. Carrier website: www.skybus.com.my

2. StarShuttle buses from the main terminal call at LCCT. Route to Puduraya bus station (near Chinatown). Schedule and prices here: www.starwira.com

3. Aerobus company: LCCT - KL Sentral route, adults - 8 RM (2.6 S), children from 2 years to 12 years old - RM 4 (1.3 S), an adult ticket from the city to the airport costs 10 RM (3.2 S) . Ticket desks are located at the exit. Schedule here: www.aerobus.my/Home_en.aspx

A train

If you want to get to the city by train, you need to get to the international terminal, it will not work on foot, since the distance between them along the road is not much, not less than 20 km, so you can use a taxi, but the price will be about 40 ringgit, or a bus that runs between terminals, buying a ticket for 3 RM. And then, as described above, “KLIA Ekspres” or “KLIA Transit”.

I talk about how to get from Kuala Lumpur Airport to the city center and in the opposite direction, i.e. How to get to Kuala Lumpur Airport.

Airports of Kuala Lumpur

There are currently three airports in Kuala Lumpur:

  • Kuala-Lumpur International Airport KLIA
  • Kuala Lumpur International Airport KLIA 2
  • Subang International Airport (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport)

A couple of years ago, the LCCT airport operated, which accepted flights of low-cost companies. Now its function is performed by the huge KLIA 2 airport, which was specially built for AirAsia and is its “home” port. Kuala Lumpur Airports on the map below the article.

KLIA and KLIA 2 are next to each other and about 60 km south of the center of Kuala Lumpur.

You can get between KLIA and KLIA 2 at:

  • free shuttle bus (runs around the clock every 10 minutes, travel time is about 12 minutes, when boarding you need to show a ticket for the next flight)
  • high-speed train in 4 minutes and 2 MYR
  • taxi, the journey takes about ten minutes, cost ~ 30 MYR

To get from the KLIA KLIA and KLIA 2 Kuala Lumpur Airport to the city center, go to:

  • The train
  • The bus
  • Taxi / Transfer

Prior to the opening of KLIA in 1998, the Subang airport was the country's main airport, and now it accepts a few flights FireFly, MalindoAir and others. It is located about 25 km west of the center of Kuala Lumpur.

You can get from Kuala Lumpur Subang Airport to:

  • The bus
  • Taxi / Transfer

Now, more about all of the above methods, how to get from Kuala Lumpur Airport to the city center and how to get to Kuala Lumpur Airport.

How to get from Kuala Lumpur KLIA and KLIA 2 airport by train

A high-speed train leaves from KLIA 2, follows through KLIA and arrives in the center of Kuala Lumpur on the KL Sentral. KL Sentral is a major transport hub of the city, the central train station where trains, monorail, metro, and buses arrive.

There are two types of high-speed train from the airport:

  • KLIA Ekspress - comes with one stop at KLIA
  • KLIA Transit - makes stops along the way: KLIA, Salak Tinggi, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya and Bandar Tasik Selatan

KLIA Express trains   run from KLIA 2 from 4:55 a.m. to 0:55 a.m., in the opposite direction from KL Sentral from 5:00 a.m. to 0:40 every 15-20 minutes. Travel time 33 minutes.

KLIA Transit trainsthey run from KLIA 2 from 5:48 a.m. to 0:59, in the opposite direction from KL Sentral from 4:33 a.m. to 0:03 every 20-30 minutes. Travel time 39 minutes.

The fare from the airport to the KL Sentral is 55 MYR for adults and 25 MYR for children 2-12 years old. Cost the same   what's the train express, what's the transit. Tickets can be bought at the box office or in advance on the official website.

By the way, if you want to save money and have extra time, you can get from KLIA to Salak Tinggi station for 4.9 MYR, get out, buy a new ticket and from Salak Tinggi get to KL Sentral for 18.30 MYR for a total of 23.2 MYR.

During the transit between the islands and Perhentian, we stayed in next to the Salak Tinggi station, left the suitcase for storage at the hotel, and then drove into the hotel, took the suitcase and went to my friend in the center of Kuala Lumpur and were a little surprised that like this parts on a high-speed train cost almost half the price 🙂

  • From KL Sentral it is more convenient to drive further on a monorail or metro.

Directions for route KLIA - KL Sentral   carry buses of Airport Coach. The first bus from the airport at 5:30, the last at 0:30. From the city to the airport from 5am to 11pm. Buses depart every half hour.

Travel time by bus is very dependent on traffic jams, lay at least an hour on the road!

The fare is 10 MYR or 18 MYR when buying tickets right there and back.

Tickets can be bought on the official website or at Level G, Block C, KLIA, KL Sentral at Level G (Ground Floor).

Directions for route KLIA - Puduraya   implemented by Star Shuttle. The first bus from the airport at 5 a.m., the last at 2:15 a.m. From Puduraya bus station, the first at 3:15, the last at 0:15. Travel time is about one and a half hours.

How to get from Kuala Lumpur KLIA 2 airport by bus

The KLIA 2 - KL Sentral route is operated by Aerobus and Sky Bus.

Bus parking to the airport on the lowest floor (Ground Floor) KL Sentral
Buses from the city center (KL Sentral) to KLIA and KLIA-2
Bus to and from Kuala Lumpur Airport
Bus ticket offices at KLIA 2 airport are located on the lowest floor - just follow the signs for “Taxi, Bus”

Taxi / Transfer

Since the KLIA airport is quite far from the city center, a taxi from the airport to Kuala Lumpur will cost no less than 65 MYR, and at night from 12 to 6 in the morning also 50% more expensive!

We prefer to take a pre-paid taxi, or as it is often called in Malaysia, Coupon Taxi: at the ticket office we pay the fare to the right place, we get a receipt that we give to the taxi driver. By the way, a taxi can be paid with a card! Pre-paid taxi from KLIA 2 airport to the city center (to the hotel near the Petronas towers) cost us 85 MYR, back to the airport from the Thai consulate - 90 MYR. The toll road was paid by the driver.

At the checkout we pay for a taxi. At checkout number 6 you can pay by card, at the next checkout 5, only cash

You can also use the Grab or Uber apps to order a taxi. On our route (to the Petronas Towers) Grab showed the cost of 65 MYR + payment of the highway. But due to poor internet at the airport, Grab could not be called.

You can pre-order a transfer on the website kiwitaxi.ru (website in Russian), pay part with a card, and upon arrival you will be met with a sign, taken to the car and taken to the hotel 🙂

Which way to choose how to get from Kula Lumpur Airport to the city center is up to you depending on your goals. If you need to get fast, it is most convenient to use a high-speed train, get to KL Sentral, and then take a taxi to the hotel. If you want to save money and have time, you can get quite comfortably by bus. If you have luggage, I recommend using a taxi or a transfer for families with children.

How to get to Kuala Lumpur Subang Airport from the city

By bus
