They keep the memory of what happened many centuries ago. This creates the unique charm that tourists enjoy.

The city of Leo is unique, and if you come here at least once, you will definitely want to return!

What to see in Lviv and where to go for a walk - a list of the best places

Market Square

Of course, we can’t ignore the popular tourist places in Lviv, so we’ll start with them. Market Square - the most famous square in the city, which is located in the center. Streets disperse from it, which are dotted with a variety of thematic cafes and restaurants. Here you can often hear street musicians.

Italian courtyard

A cozy place in the heart of the city of Leo. Here you can relax from the bustling streets filled with tourists. Back in the 16th century, when they built the courtyard, the owners tried to equip it so that this corner became a resting place. Now the Italian courtyard often hosts guests. There is a coffee shop, as well as jazz and classical concerts.

High castle

Being in Lviv and not climbing the High Castle is like not seeing Khreshchatyk in Kiev. This is the highest point of the city of Leo, the height of the mountain is 413 meters. Once upon a time a castle towered on it. Build the mountain began in the 13th century. When the castle was rebuilt and it became clearly visible from the surrounding territories, the mountain began to be called Castle, or "High Castle".

A high castle is actually a mountain, not a castle

In the 17th century, Swedish troops marched through Lviv and stormed the stronghold. Since then, the castle began to collapse. And, unfortunately, no one cared for century after century. The streets paved with stones from the mountain, the defenses were dismantled in order to build houses in the city. Now there is a small wall from the castle fortifications. And Castle Hill has become one of the most favorite viewing platforms for Lviv residents and visitors. And this is not surprising, because the view from the mountain is really incredible.

Lviv Opera

Opera is one of the most architecturally expressive monuments of Lviv. Its elegant building surprises residents and visitors alike with incredible luxury and perfection. Operettas, operas and other premieres are often held here.

Lychakiv cemetery

Usually, cemeteries are not a place for tourists, but this is not about Lviv. Lychakiv cemetery is not just a place for burial, but a historical and cultural museum-reserve. Tombstones are real works of art.

The oldest burials in the Lychakiv cemetery date back to the late 18th century. Mostly famous people were buried here. The Polish writer Arthur Grott and his beloved Baroness Wanda Monnet are buried here. Also at the Lviv cemetery Ivan Franko, Solomiya Krushelnytska, Markiyan Shashkevich found their peace.

Non-tourist places of Lviv

The real Lviv will open only if you break out of the vicious circle of buildings adjacent to the Market Square, get lost among the crooked streets of the Old City, not afraid to look into the courtyards and courtyards.

Take a walk near luxury villas

Tram number 2 will take you from the bustling center to the silence of the ancient surroundings, where among the luxurious villas there will be insight: the city can be quiet.

General Chuprinka Street

General Chuprinka Street stretches from the Church of St. Mary Magdalene (now the House of Organ and Chamber Music) to Academician Rudnitsky. Tourists don’t walk around at all, which is probably why she still has kept the spirit of the time and has not acquired dozens of restaurants and cafes. Once this area was called Kastelivka, and its proximity to the center prompted the construction of new houses at the end of the 19th century.

General Chuprinka Street

The indefatigable imagination of architects generously spilled onto this street in the form of many villas and mansions built for the then Lviv elite and intelligentsia.

One of the most noteworthy buildings is the castle house on General Chuprinka at number 50-52. It is interesting that the mansion is now used for its intended purpose - ordinary people live in its apartments.

Plasticine house

The creation of modern designers - "Plasticine house" resembles the creation of Gaudi. The house is located on Tsetnerovka street, 16, which is not far from Lychakivsky park. The owner inherited a completely inconspicuous mansion, which he gave for updating to local architect Nikolai Senik. And now the building looks absolutely unrealistic against the background of ordinary Polish mansions, and it is a pity that few people know about it.

University of Life Safety

Lviv universities as a whole are undeservedly deprived of tourist attention. The majestic building of the Lviv University of Life Safety is like a castle, and it is in no way inferior to the University of Chernivtsi, which is the main tourist visit of the capital of Bukovina.

Lviv University of Life Safety

The building in the middle of the XIX century was built by the same architect as the building of the Austrian parliament and the Vienna arsenal. It housed the House of disabled Galicia disabled in wars. The main drawback of the university as an object for tourists is that it works behind closed doors, as it reports to the State Emergency Service.

University Chapel

But you can get here! On Sunday there is an opportunity to go to the university, because there is a chapel where a worship is held. And if you say that you are going precisely for this purpose - you will certainly be allowed to go.

Lviv parks

Parks in Lviv are the real pride of the city, because there are a lot of them and they are all incredibly beautiful. Stryi Park can surprise with its garden architecture, the Znesinnya Park (formerly the Imperial Forest or Kaiserwald) starts from the Lion Mountain and rests on the famous Shevchenkovsky guy - an ethnocomplex in the open air, where various holidays and festivities are held.

Striysky park

In winter, it is good to wander along the snowy alleys, and in summer - to have picnics in the hills, which offer a magnificent view of the tin and tile roofs of the Old Town.

Park "Znesinnya"

The park, completely unknown to tourists, is Pogulianka. Steep ravines covered with massive beech trees descend from the hills of Pasichna Street. The best place to relax from the busy city, and you can imagine.

Observation Decks

Without seeing the city from above, it is impossible to truly appreciate its scale. In Lviv, you just need to rise as high as possible and enjoy the beauty of weathercocks and roofs.

The Town Hall Tower and the High Castle, which overlook the city, are too commonplace, because in Lviv there are a lot of non-standard places where you can see the city from a fresh perspective.

Firstly, it is the Church of Saints Olga and Elizabeth, which is on the corner of ul. Gorodetskaya and Stepan Bandera. For a very small amount, a completely non-standard view opens up from the observation deck.

Church of Saints Olga and Elizabeth

Secondly, an alternative to the High Castle is Bald Mountain. From it, in contrast to the High Castle, popular among tourists, there is a fantastic panorama of the Old Town, but trees do not interfere. Thirdly, you can go to the observation deck of the Citadel.

Yard of Lost Toys

This unusual courtyard houses dolls, teddy bears, rattles, garden gnomes, plastic Carlsons and other toys. Entourage creates a mystical atmosphere. According to local residents, the collection on display is owned by one of the tenants. Not all Lviv residents even know about the existence of this court.

Street with several names

Since 2006, the Kinolev festival has been held in Lviv. The festival has its own tradition - the name of the one to whom the next festival is dedicated has been added annually to the official name of Archival Street. Now the street, in addition to the main one, has many more names: Bergman, Fellini, Truffo, Ilyenko and Parajanov. The corresponding signs are hung on one of the buildings of the short Archival Street.

Hello! Today we’ll talk about what to see and where to visit a tourist in Lviv. We will discuss what places a tourist should visit in Lviv, about the best tourist places of the city. Description of the most popular places and attractions in the city of Lviv, Ukraine.

Lviv is the cultural capital of Ukraine

Lviv is one of the oldest cities in Ukraine, and maybe the oldest of them. Well, by today I have already managed to acquire the status of the cultural capital of our country. It is unlikely that there will be at least one person in the world who was here and was unsatisfied with his trip. Actually, there are a lot of reasons, but first things first.

How to get to Lviv

 • From Kiev - 6 year 25 hv (537.9 km) by roads: M06
 • From Kharkov - 12 year 45 hv (1 016.4 km)by roads: M03 and M06
 • From Dnepropetrovsk - 13 year 9 hv (1 015.2 km)by roads: Е40 і М06
 • From Cherkasy - 9 years 13 hv (726.6 km) by road: M06

Places to see in the city

 • Kryivka (Krivivka)
 • High Castle Park
 • Lviv Opera House S. Krushelnitskaya
 • Market Square
 • Latin Cathedral
 • Dominican Cathedral
 • Lychakiv Cemetery on Pekarskaya Street

Kryivka (Krivivka)

Perhaps the best institution in terms of collected stereotypes about Ukrainians you can not find anywhere else. The institution itself is made in the style of the UPA (Ukrainian rebel army), all decor items and even people here have a special, unique charm. The building is inconspicuous in appearance, there is no sign or sign, but just a portal to Ukraine opens in the early forties of the twentieth century.

Password to enter the institution

However, to get here, you need to know the password to enter. Well, everything is very simple, but the smartest of you have probably guessed about it). And the password is: “Glory to Ukraine!”, After the guard answers: “Glory to the heroes!”, They will pour and let you in. Drinking at the entrance is a must, but very enjoyable.

The cuisine here is very good ..

As they say, everything is simple, but with taste. Basically, you will be offered to taste the ration of the UPA soldier of the Second World War. Also, from time to time, some interactive scenes are held for visitors to capture “Muscovites”. It’s worth treating everything with humor, because it’s just ridiculing stereotypes about Lviv residents)

address: pl. Market, 14

Lviv coffee furnace (Lviv coffee house)

Very original institution. As we all know, coffee is not mined in the mines, but by the way, the cultural capital can afford to have fun in its own way. The idea here is built precisely on the absurdity of the idea itself.

Having come here you will have a choice, you can take a cup of hot coffee and sit on the sun-drenched terrace, or you can go down into the bowels of the sun and try a drink in a very unusual atmosphere. Well, from myself I can only add that a trip to the very depths of the mine is worth doing, because when you still have the chance to sip coffee while being so deep?).

This institution is very difficult to overlook, as it is located almost in the center, and now and then walking around the city you will stumble upon it.

Market Square in Lviv

home Lviv landmark - its historical center, Market Square. All buildings of the square are architectural monuments, but the central Town Hall stands out especially. To this day, the government of Lviv sits in a stone building, but tourists have the opportunity to go on an excursion here. 350 steps lead to the roof of the Town Hall, from where you can see the whole city. Also on Rynok Square there is an Italian courtyard with a Viennese coffee house, Black Kamenitsa and Royal Kamenitsa (there is a historical museum in them).

Latin Cathedral on Catedralnaya Square

Latin Cathedral on Catedralnaya Square, 1 combines Gothic and Baroque. This is the main Roman Catholic church in Lviv, which preserved the ancient organ and stained glass windows of Jan Matejko. Next to the church is the Boimov Chapel, one of the few remaining tombs. The design of the chapel in black with numerous figures from biblical subjects and history is interesting.

Dominican Cathedral

On Museum Square, 1 stands the Dominican Cathedral - the main monument of the baroque of Lviv. Today it is a temple of Greek Catholics, organ concerts are regularly held here and an exhibition of the Museum of Religion is exhibited. St. Jura Cathedral in the square of the same name can argue with Dominican for the title of Baroque monument. This is the main center of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, an architectural ensemble of the XVIII century. The complex is included in the World Heritage List.

Where else can I go in Lviv

If fate has given you the opportunity to stay here longer than 1 day, then you should pay time to the architectural masterpieces of the old city. In general, there are a lot of them in the cultural capital, literally every building of the old quarter is a whole story with many interesting twists, oh, there would be time ... But time is a very limited resource, so we advise you to stop your eyes on the following copies:

Opera theatre

Lviv Opera House S. Krushelnytska in Lviv is one of the most beautiful theaters in Europe along with Vienna and Odessa operas. On the facade of the building you will see figures “Love”, “Life”, “Glory”, “Art”, “Victory”. If possible, spend a couple of precious hours and enjoy theatrical performance. There is something to see here, because this theater is considered one of the oldest in all of Europe, and local artists carefully respect traditions and diligently try to increase them every day.

Where is the Opera House

Opera House S. Krushelnytska is located at the end of Liberty Avenue. The building is designed so that the maximum inside is illuminated by natural light. An interesting hall is the mirrors and the central hall, which regularly leads excursions. But it’s better to come here to listen to the performance.

High Castle Park

What could be nicer than an evening vacation in a quiet and comfortable park? In Lviv, this place is rightfully considered the abode of peace and quiet. There are places from which a fantastic view of the city opens, as the park itself is located above the level of city streets. If you have the moment to come here in the early morning, then do not miss it, because very often in the mornings you can contemplate the fogs, and in total with the old city, the panorama of which opens here, the sight is simply amazing.

... offers an impressive view of Lviv.

The High Castle Park at an altitude of 413 meters used to be a place for a fortified fortress. But in 1648, after the capture of Lviv by Maxim Krivonos, the castle was destroyed, and a park was created on the vacated spot. The stone of the walls served as the basis for a modern viewing platform, which offers an impressive view of Lviv. There is also a television center and a radio tower.

Lychakiv cemetery

Lychakiv Cemetery on Pekarskaya Street 95 is known for its history and size. On an area of 40 hectares, there are more than 3,500 monuments and graves, not counting the large military memorial cemetery. Lychakiv Cemetery is a museum, excursions are held here. The oldest graves date from the end of the 19th century; Ivan Franko, Solomiya Krushelnitskaya and many other famous people are also buried here.

The highlight of Lviv - restaurants of the network! FEST

The highlight of Lviv are the restaurants of the “! FEST” chain, known for their originality and ideology. For example, the Kryivka cafe (atmosphere of rebel armies, Rynok square, 14), the Jewish cafe Under the Golden Rose (here you must bargain at 37 Staroevreyskaya St.) and the Lviv Coffee Mine (in which you can visit a real mine, Rynok square, 10).

What to see and where to visit Lviv - Conclusion

I hope we helped you find out what to see and where to visit Lviv.

Have a good trip to Ukraine and the world !!!

This article is a detailed answer to those readers who, after my trip to Lviv, literally overwhelmed me with questions about what to see in this city. I promised to write something similar. Here ... I undertake to fulfill my promise.

First of all, to begin with, I will say that the historical center of Lviv is relatively small. One way or another, but most of the local attractions are concentrated here in the area market Square. This is the heart of the old city, its zero meridian and a kind of reference point. In this square, each building is a hostel, restaurant, museum or art gallery. Life here is in full swing all night. Look at the photo ... I think it’s noticeable how many tourists are on this square.

In the heart of the Market Square is Lviv Town Hall and some "antique" statues approaching him from all sides.

I was there for some time spinning (like Tsiskaridze) trying to somehow photograph them. But some people constantly climbed into the frame, my fellow traveler grumbled, demanding another trip for local beer, so I didn’t really get normal photos here. There is one last year’s photo with Neptune - so I’ll post it.

The rest of the statues are already seen with your own eyes (if you are reading this article, it means that you are probably already thinking about a trip).

Cathedrals and churches of Lviv

I did not count them, so I’ll just write that there are “a lot of them” in the city. If you spin (like Tsiskaridze) in the area of the same Market Square, then on each side of you (wherever you go) there will be one temple or cathedral. Many of them are perfectly visible in the distance. You will not pass them.

For example, Latin cathedral (right behind which is a monument in honor of our talented fellow countryman Adam Mickiewicz).

And here is the same cathedral, but from a different angle (from the side of the Opera House).

Another interesting cathedral - Dominican - Also located in the center, but on the other hand. In the first photo you can clearly see how his dome sticks out from behind the houses.

Another photo - and another “neighbor” of the market square. More precisely - a neighbor. it Assumption Church.

Walk a little to the left of it and you will catch your eye lviv Arsenal.

Inside this building is the famous costal, which will drive you crazy, as Makaley Kalkin demented Mila Kunis. I have been in this institution 5 or 6 times already. And I really like it there. In fact - this is another full sight of Lviv.

Okay ... I will not leave the topic (otherwise this article will become completely boring). We fix glasses on the nose and go on to look at the religious buildings of Lviv. Pass by Glinyansky gate

And heading to Church and monastery of Bernardine. Yes, I know, you probably all think about the costal, so I won’t delay you much. A couple of pictures - that's all. And no jokes about Tsiskaridze.

Speaking seriously, in Lviv you can find several more interesting churches, cathedrals and churches. If you like this architecture, then take note of a few more iconic points. Armenian church and Lviv Church of the Jesuits (in the photo below) are located right in the center of the city (a couple of hundred meters from the same Market Square).

But before church of St. Elisabeth and st. George's Cathedral you have to take a little ride (well, or just walk more aggressively).

Church of Elzbiet.

"Jura" is generally a very important attraction of Lviv. I do not recommend skipping it. There are crying icons, and burials of Ukrainian metropolitans in the crypt, and a copy of the Shroud of Turin. In the church world, this is a complete royal flush. I even took a picture in this place.

Other sights of Lviv

I don’t remember ... I already said that the sights of Lviv are mostly concentrated in the area of the Market Square? There are many of them (like show-offs in the films of Alexander Kuritsyn).

Turn around one corner - bump into chapel boimov.

You turn after another - and you can already see ahead mount High Castle. By the way, about the High Castle ... It is believed that this mountain offers a steep view. Do not believe it. Personally, I regretted being dragged there.

Another attraction of Lviv from the category "For Amateur" is Lychakiv cemetery.

It is located a couple of kilometers from the center and is considered one of the most mystical and beautiful cemeteries in Europe. There are ancient tombstones, stone sarcophagi and soldiers' burials (from the times of Austria-Hungary to the times of World War II).

But no matter how unusual, memorable and colorful this place would be - this is, anyway, a cemetery. Walking here, and it feels like you are walking ... in a cemetery. Everything around is some kind of cemetery. And then after this walk, the soul remains as if you just ... hmm ... visited the cemetery. Oh ... forgive me Saint Tsiskaridze. I photographed everything there. My blogging duty is done. I won’t go there anymore.

Okay ... I’m urgently changing the subject. What have I not talked about there yet? Oh yes ... I still have two more TOP-sights of Lviv left in my stock. The first one is Opera theatre (guess what area it is next to). It looks beautiful (even despite a pregnant sculpture with a spikelet right in the center).

Walk 30 meters - find yourself at shevchenko monument.

Incidentally, he puts his hand in such a way that it always seems to me that he is going to slap someone on the slap. Don't you have that feeling? Okay ... Then we drove through. Instead, I’d rather show you another unusual trick here nearby - the “Lviv Statue of Liberty” (drinking surrounded by half-naked Ukrainian men).

It can be found on the facade of one of the buildings on Liberty Avenue. By the way, it was recently restored. Outside of my sick imagination, this statue is called "Thrift."

Well, okay ... I told you about the most “New York” sight of Lviv. Now let's show you here also a small corner of Paris. If anything, I'm talking about Potocki Palace.

It is located a couple of kilometers from the opera house, but it is really worth a walk in this part of the city. This Lviv palace is beautiful, like a young Tsiskaridze. The elegance of the lines, the elegance of forms ... Plus here is such a street with umbrellas directly opposite.

If you are tired of uploading photos made on the background of curtains on your Instagram, then you definitely need to come here. Keep a mysterious look, do not abuse hashtags - and your uneducated girlfriends will definitely decide that you are somewhere in Paris.

Lviv cafes and restaurants

In general, Ukraine is one of the few countries where citizens of Belarus can safely go to cafes and feel like wealthy tourists. Everything is cheap in Lviv, but I would like to tell you about Lviv cafes not only for this reason. The thing is that in all my travels I have never seen a city where the restaurant culture would be as well developed as here. Many Lviv cafes are full-fledged sights and a full-blown attraction for tourists.

There is a restaurant for masochists, and coffee sealed with a gas burner, and a cafe without an address, hidden inside an ordinary Soviet apartment, and much more. I have a separate large article on this topic on my blog. Read it for sure. Or someone Tyrion L. will die in season 8. Then do not cry.

How not to get lost in the city and find the most interesting without problems?

Personally, I usually use the MAPS.ME application during my travels. This is a convenient offline navigator that allows you to easily pave the way from point A to point B. I scored the desired street / restaurant / attraction - and just follow the arrows. The only negative is that the application quickly eats up the battery life on the phone. Therefore, it is best that such an application is not only for you, but also for those people with whom you travel.

If you are not interested in walking around the city on your own, and you want to walk around Lviv with a guide, you can order an excursion in just a few clicks. Excursions in Ukraine are cheap, so you can not neglect them here. Moreover, in the list of current offers you can find something really interesting.

Lviv for children, walks in places of Soviet films and much more. A full list of excursions is available, as well as the link below.

How to organize a trip to Lviv

DIRECTION. Then a few words about the practical component of this trip. Get from Belarus to Ukraine possible by train, bus and plane. The cheapest way to travel is with a change in Brest. More about all the options. Below I will also post a link to a large and very funny article telling about how we ourselves got home after the Lviv trip. Read it for sure. Have a good laugh.

APARTMENTS. Concerning housing search, then I personally advise you to use the AIRBNB site in this regard. On this site, instead of hotel rooms, private apartments "from the owners" are for rent. Therefore, you can generally rent a good apartment in Lviv for ridiculous money.

Not a member of this system yet? Then do it by clicking on this link. In this case, you will receive a small bonus for the first reservation. Consider it a small thank you for reading this article to the end.

HOTELS. If hotels and hostels are nevertheless closer and dearer to you than apartments and apartments, I recommend looking for them through the Room Guru website. It has an ugly interface, but it allows you to quickly compare the cost of the same number in different reservation systems. Keep in mind: the cost of the same room in a hotel can vary greatly on Booking’e and, for example, on the Islet. When comparing offers from different systems, you will definitely not miss the best offer.

INSURANCE. With regard to registration of insurance, it is better to issue it. Here you can find reliable insurance companies that can be easily compared with each other and choose the best option in terms of price and quality (the number of insurance points included). You can read all the details about insurance in Ukraine at the link below.
