The most interesting places in Lviv. Lviv in one day. Route. What to see and where to go. How to organize a trip to Lviv

This is love at first sight! I want to come back here again and again to enjoy an unforgettable atmosphere. Lviv is a city of ancient squares, picturesque streets, exquisite architecture, original restaurants, cozy Kneipp and coffee houses, vibrant festivals and cultural events. On the eve of Christmas and New Year, the city is filled with some special magic, joyful smiles, a sense of celebration and a good fairy tale.

New Year's December Lviv met us with mild and pleasant winter weather. We arrived by morning train at 6 in the morning. The station building is impressive. Interestingly, the Lviv station is the very first station in Ukraine.

It was originally built in 1861 and connected Lviv with Vienna, Przemysl and Krakow. Trains and passengers increased. It was decided to build a new, more spacious station. The new building was built on the site of the old in 1904 and renovated in 2003. Sculptures on the pediment have their own symbolism. To the left of the coat of arms of the city Woman is the personification of the road and trade, to the right is the man - the symbol of Lviv and industry.

This trip to Lviv was the very first. The “homework” in preparation for the trip (even for one day) was performed perfectly. Therefore, they immediately knew that in Lviv they should see how to get there, where to stop and where to eat, where to put yourself in the early morning.

Practical tips for those who travel to Lviv for the first time:

1. Where to stay in Lviv:

We reserve hotels or apartments in Lviv on the website   BookingAccommodation can be booked at these links:

  • Lviv Hotels  - from 350 UAH per day
  • Lviv apartments  - from 300 UAH per day
  • Hostels of Lviv  - from 80 UAH per day per person

The site often has special offers with discounts on hotels. For example, such:

Take advantage of our ready-made selection of the best apartments. This will save your time)))

This is the first time we have rented   apartment on Rynok square 12  . A simple interior, clean and inexpensive, is what you need for one night. This is the very center, in the neighboring entrance “Krivievka” and “Lviv Plyatsky”. Old colorful l lviv courtyard - quiet and somehow atmospheric))

We will share direct links to Lviv hotels and apartments in which (at this time) we and our relatives stayed during all of the following trips:   Danylo Inn, ASAO-Apartments walking center zone, Lviv hollidays Galytska, Historical Center Apartments.

2.How to get from the railway station to the Market Square

We took the tram. You can go to number 1, number 9, number 10.

3. What to see in Lviv. Sights of Lviv.

We prefer independent excursions. Free lviv mapand a list of upcoming events can be taken at the tourist information center at the railway station or in the Town Hall building on Rynok 1 Square (behind the Neptune Fountain).

4. What to do and where to go in Lviv in the early morning.

We arrived at 6 in the morning. Therefore, the question became logical, where to put yourself in the morning city. Well, do not sit at the station, albeit so beautiful.

Here is such a morning Lviv sunk into my soul.

Having rummaged through the Internet, we found the addresses of several round-the-clock restaurants, pizzerias and Kneipp. We start the morning in Lviv with breakfast)) The pizzerias were immediately discarded, because we arrived for the Lviv flavor. In the famous "Krivivka" somehow did not want to. We chose the Vezha Kramar restaurant not far from the Opera House for visiting. In the evening, they called back and specified whether the restaurant would work tomorrow at 6 in the morning. The answer is yes. But in the morning all the doors of Vera Kramar turned out to be tightly closed. Unpleasant ...

Restaurant - Kneipp Kryivka

Our backup for breakfast is "Krivievka".  It is convenient that the tram in Rynok Square stops right in front of the Kneipp entrance. On the official website, the address is: “Somewhere in the Market Square”. You will not find signs. Nevertheless, “Krivivka” is a secret underground institution, the real den of “Bandera’s))) I will say that we were glad because the Vezha Kramar was closed. Everything that is done is for the best.

They entered the Krivivka with a password))) To our surprise, there were already a lot of people here. Interestingly, according to some sources, this unique Kneipp is visited by about 1 million people a year and Krivka is considered one of the most popular restaurants in Europe. Kneipp is decorated very atmospheric like a field dugout UPA during the Second World War. Full immersion)))

In the morning in "Kryivka" calmly. Nobody Muscovites catches and shoots))) Breakfast. Smiled the names of dishes on the menu. I especially liked the refreshing tea “Mead on Twerza” brewed on Carpathian herbs. For the sake of this delicious tea, I agree to return here))) Zhenya’s temperature rose at night in the train, (it’s good that the traveler’s first-aid kit is always with us) so herbal tea was very useful for restoring strength. (Well, the body took 50g of soft mead easily, for treatment)))

The cat - the mascot of "Krivievka", nicknamed Petro, walked lazily and imposingly among the tables, fell apart on the floor and even allowed himself to be stroked.

But the second inventor was left “with a nose”, tourists reach too high for him)))

Museum Square

But this monument to the Ukrainian artist - the primitivist Nikifor Drovnyak on Museum Square in the square, to the right of the Dominican Cathedral, was more difficult to figure out. The artist’s face seemed very kind, so they decided that he would fulfill all desires. He glistens with his raised finger, nose, legs and shoes. Here's what to rub ?!)))) Probably the most intense desires are made by tourists in a low bow with rubbing a shoe?))) And according to legend, either nose or finger are rubbed, but only one desire per day.

Dominican Cathedral - the greatness and luxury of baroque. It rises on Museum Square. In the 13th century, at this place, Prince Lev Daniilovich built at the request of his wife, the Hungarian princess Constance, a Dominican monastery and church in the Gothic style. Almost 270 years ago, the church was dismantled and, thanks to the financing of the Polish governor Jozef Potocki, a new Dominican Cathedral was erected according to all the fashion trends of that time.

How to really fight for the bride, the Dominican monastery did not fully feel it for itself in the distant 1559. Polish governor Lukasz Hurka took a siege and firing cannons from the temple, in which his young wife, the richest heiress of the princely family Halska Ostrog, took refuge. She believed that she had married a deceit. Lviv froze in anticipation of a denouement, no one was trading. The monastery did not give up until Gurka ordered to block the water supply. I had to give Pebble to an assertive groom.

Opposite the Dominican Cathedral, “Bookstore on Fedorov” is a cozy shop. Came in the evening to buy books and saw such a divine beauty.

And for those who want to get both maximum freedom of movement and the ability to quickly get anywhere in the city, we recommend renting a car: you can do this at 7Cars offices, which are conveniently located at the airport and near the railway station.

Main square

Getting to know the city is better to start market Squarewhere the holiday atmosphere always reigns. Market Square, as cozy and well-groomed as in any European city, is surrounded by continuous attractions. Take at least the sculptural fountains: Adonis, Amphitrite, Neptune and Diana. The sculptor Hartmann Witver created them in 1810-1814. There used to be wells with water for townspeople and merchants.

Around Market Square are located bandinelli House, Black Kamenitsa, Venetian House, Italian Courtyard, Lubomirski Palace, Adreoli passage.

In the very center of the square is Town Hall, 65 m high. Walk 408 steps to the observation deck. From here a beautiful panorama of the city opens. On the tower are the main city clocks of the Austrian factory Wilgelm Stiehl, they are more than 165 years old. The first clock in Lviv appeared in 1491. Centuries passed, the tower burned, fell, collapsed, and with it the clock. Only in 1851, after the next restoration, did the clock work to this day.

Also, in the Town Hall Tourist Information Centerwhere you can get information about Lviv and its attractions.

In the very center of the city there is a place where you can sit in silence and cool. Armenian quarter

There are many streets in Lviv with the names of the nationalities of the peoples, populating them: Ruska, Serbian, Armenian. Since the 13th century, Armenians actively settled in Lviv, and in 1370 appeared Armenian Cathedral. At the beginning of the last century, the walls and stained-glass windows of the cathedral were painted by the famous painter Jan Rosen, who combined modern art and secession in stained-glass windows and murals. The Armenian Cathedral participated in the filming of the film “D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers”. In the courtyard of the cathedral, the king’s musketeers fought with the cardinal’s guards, and the phrase that became popular was pronounced: “How many swords do we have?” Four!"

Many historical buildings have been preserved in the Armenian quarter. At the end of the street, drop by the Dziga Art Center and the Pid Klepsidroi Cafe and order coffee with a spark.

The Bernardine or St. Andrew’s Church began to be erected in 1600 and completed 60 years later. Interestingly, they built it not on the site of the old church, but above it. At the same time, a monastery was built, which, thanks to its strong walls, was used as a defensive structure. Here, part of the defensive redoubts - the Glinyansky Gates - has been preserved.

Arriving in Lviv for a weekend walk, or planning business meetings, trainings, conferences, of course, I want to see the sights as much as possible, get acquainted with them, touch the history. And some luggage of new knowledge, along with souvenirs and photos to bring home. If you planned your trip spontaneously, which often happens among young people, students and couples in love, the information collected by me will be useful and will serve as a kind of guide to interesting places in Lviv.

If you have at least two full days, I suggest you visit such interesting tourist sites as:

- The first attraction that meets every tourist is the beautiful railway station of the city

- Church of St. Elisabeth - It is located 5-10 minutes walk from the railway station, it is simply impossible not to notice it. You can visit it both upon arrival in Lviv, and before departure.

Having reached the Market Square by tram, first of all go to the Tourist Information Center, they will answer your questions, help you with an overnight stay, offer excursions, and also issue free maps with the indicated attractions. Here on Rynok Square, I recommend taking your first familiarization tour of the city:

- Sightseeing tour on a sightseeing tram , upon arrival in the city, go on an amazing journey through the old streets, so your first acquaintance with tourist sites and the Old Town as a whole will take place. This sightseeing tour helps the tourist to determine the location of sightseeing objects relative to each other, and makes it clear what you would like to visit in detail in the first place. The price will be 50 UAH .;

After the tour, the tram will bring you to another city attraction:

- Market Square   - a historical place where life has been seething for centuries, bazaars were held, public gatherings were held, negotiations were held, and houses of noble sirs and ladies were located. This place can be called a starting point for the start of all excursion routes in the city. In order not to go far, let's go to the most central attraction:

- City Hall , more than 400 steps lead up to the top, and a bird's eye view offers an amazing view of the city. A visit to the Town Hall is best planned in the morning or evening hours, at this time the smallest congestion of tourists. The cost of visiting will be 15 UAH.

Being at the top of the Town Hall, you can visually determine for yourself the location of objects (cathedrals, churches, churches, theaters) offered to visit, appreciate their beauty and grandeur from above, they look especially romantic with lighting in the evening hours.

After descending from the Town Hall to Rynok Square, take a walk around the perimeter, buying a map guide, where for each Kamenitsa (houses along the perimeter of the square) there is a detailed description in the form of the time of construction, restoration, and its guests.

- Kamenitsy in the Market Square   - each house is a different story, a masterpiece of architectural creation, and together it is a unique ensemble of the Market Square. Now almost every Kamenitsa is either a museum, a coffee shop, a souvenir shop, a restaurant or a hostel. Pay particular attention to:

- Black Kamenitsa   - one of the oldest and most interesting architectural structures.

- Italian courtyard   - here, every tourist can appreciate not only the masterpiece of the facade, but also the interior of Kamenitsa, made in the Italian style, now there is a restaurant where you can have coffee or dinner in a romantic atmosphere. Entrance for visitors 5 UAH.
