90% of reptiles, as well as mollusks and a third of plants are endemic, that is, species that are found only on this island. On Socotra, 800 species of various plants grow. Scientists are inclined to believe that most of them trace their lineage from the ancient flora, which disappeared forever in ancient centuries. These include:
- Cucumber tree;
- Dragon tree, in which, according to legend, the blood of ancient dragons flows;
- Dorstenia is giant;
- Desert Rose (similar to a bloated elephant foot with a delicate flower on the top of the head).
Chocolate Hills of Bohol Island (Philippines)
People go there to marvel at the natural formation - round, almost identical hills, of which 1268 are located on an area of \u200b\u200b50 km². How these hills came about is not known for certain, the most plausible version is that these coral colonies bulged out due to some geological processes under the island. 
The hills at the time of autumn decay of grass on them take an extremely pleasant look of truffle sweets, and in the summer they turn bright green under the Philippine sun.
Only on this island live the smallest monkeys in the world - pretty, like toys, tarsiers (below in the photo). Their growth is smaller than the palm of a person.

Fans of the famous blockbuster will immediately understand what is at stake. These unusual "fingers" are called the "Avatar Mountains." Huge columns of quartz sandstone, covered on top with a dense tropical forest, are located in Hunan (China). In fact, this is a vast reserve, a national park, founded in 1982. The whole area is well protected from destruction.
In the park it is strictly forbidden to light a fire in any form, including a ban on smoking. All hiking trails are lined with a special coating that protects the soil from erosion.
Presumably, when creating the movie Avatar, director James Cameron was inspired by the Wulingyuan mountains.
Saline Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia)
We already wrote about this bewitching place in an article about, however, the famous salt desert deserves a place in our arbitrary TOP-20 rating. This largest salt marsh is covered with neat cones. The whole landscape has an alien view.
In the rainy season, the surface of the dried lake is covered with a thin layer of water, which turns into a huge mirror. It reflects an endless sky with clouds and mountains in the background, and then the landscape becomes completely unrealistic. 
Hamilton Basin (USA)
A curious ecosystem is located in Texas near the city of Austin - a lake under the dome of a cave grotto. In ancient times, it was an underground river flowing through a karst cave, but nature made adjustments. At some point, the vaults collapsed in one place, and the underground river first saw the sun and sky.
The resulting chamber bay with a beach under the roof is a very cozy place. The water in the lake is saturated blue. The "ceiling" of the grotto is dotted with centuries-old layers of soil and rocks, moss, limestone stalactites and climbing plants hang from the edges. Inside the dome, swallows made nests. A waterfall rustles on the side. 
Grand Canyon (USA)
One of the deepest and largest canyons in the world is located in Arizona. In the depths of the river of the same name flows among the high walls of layers of shale, limestone and sandstone. The canyon extends 446 km in length and up to 1800 m in depth.
65 million years ago, Colorado flowed along the plain, but then the plateau gradually began to rise. The angle of the river has changed, the flow has accelerated, and the water began to erode the soil in its path. In the form in which we can see the canyon now, it is 6 million years old, and to this day soil erosion continues and the hole deepens. The Grand Canyon is the most famous in the world, immortalized in dozens of American films. 
Canaima National Park (Venezuela)
Located in Bolivar on the east coast of the country. The entire territory is strictly protected, since the reserve is included in the World Heritage List. An interesting fact is that it is here that you can see the highest waterfall on the planet -. From almost a kilometer high, the Kerepakupay River falls and falls into the jungle.

Inaccessible huge cliffs rise in all directions, and somewhere far below, the mirror of the Lysefjord blackens. 
Crystal River (Colombia)
“A river born of a rainbow”, “A river that escaped from paradise” ... Many names have given the Colombians their pride - Kanye Kristales, which flows in the north of the country.

This magnificence can be seen in the autumn months, when numerous marine organisms begin to bloom each with its own color. 
Pamukkale (Turkey)
Pamukkale in translation from Turkish sounds like a "cotton castle". This name was given by the locals to an unusual plateau located in the very center of the country. In fact, these are terraces made of travertine - a polycrystalline rock. For centuries, thermal springs were created by streams of mineralized water, which, flowing down the slopes, did not have time to reach the bottom of the mountain and evaporated under the hot rays.
Now the resort is in high demand, because here you can not only be treated with mineral baths, but also wander through the azure pools, beautiful snow-white terraces, admiring the plan and fantasy of mother nature.

UNESCO World Heritage has brought this natural wonder under its protection, as the amazing cliffs look like they were written by Pablo Picasso. The rock, consisting of colored sandstones and conglomerates of the Mesozoic era, looks impressive, especially against the background of the grayness of large cities that are located near the province. Artists come here in order to draw inspiration, and ordinary people travel to see the unusual phenomenon with their own eyes.
Ninth place is occupied by twin twin waterfalls in Talbot Bay, Australia. The mainland itself boasts a large number of places that in fact seem to be natural wonders untouched by man. But those who are looking for thrills and do not have a soul in extreme sports are simply obliged to visit unusual waterfalls. Their horizontal course is due to the fact that a huge stream of water sweeps through the mountain range and gorges with great speed, creating a temporary waterfall. Daredevils, perhaps, will well appreciate such a dangerous journey through the bubbling streams of water and will be able to enjoy the beauty of an unusual phenomenon.
The eighth place in the TOP is occupied by one of the largest caves on the planet - Hang Son Dong, which is located in Vietnam. This miracle of nature is so magnificent that, even looking at the photo, you get a feeling of how small people are, after all, the height of the cave is 240 meters and the width is almost one kilometer. On such a vast territory, you can place an entire airport with several aircraft. But to describe this miracle of nature is useless, because you need to see such a creation of nature yourself.
On the seventh line of our charts was Erebus volcano. For mankind, volcanoes carry a danger, but this does not make them less improbable and surprising. Many risk their lives in order to make a couple of shots of active and sleeping volcanoes on our planet. People are used to the fact that volcanoes look standard: a green foot and a snow cap. But the stronger sex will not be left without impressions, because the beauty of this heavenly place on planet Earth is fascinating. When you find yourself in a flower valley, you get the feeling that this place is completely untouched by man.

Those who have been there declare spiritual cleansing and complete relaxation, which cannot be obtained anywhere else on Earth.
Chocolate hills in the Philippines are in third place TOP. They were named so not because of cocoa beans, but because these hills resemble truffle sweets. Sweet tooth doesn’t appreciate such a “tasty” place. But in fact, the basis of the hills is one of the varieties of limestone, which in the summer gives the hills such a shade.
The penultimate, second place in the hit parade of the beautiful corners of our planet is Pink Lake, which is located in West Africa. This name was given to the reservoir for a reason: its color at any time of the year is bright pink. The salinity of the water in this lake is several times greater than in the Dead Sea, and among its inhabitants there is only one single bacterium that gives the pond such an unusual color. The aerial view of the lake looks impressive, because around it are the African jungle and the deep ocean.
And the leader closing TOP-10 is the Uyuni solonchak in Bolivia. It would seem that what could be unusual in salt deposits? That's right - nothing.
