Aircraft l 410. General description and characteristics

The first L-410 aircraft was created in the 60s of the last century by Czechoslovak manufacturers by order of the USSR. It was the Soviet Union that was the main customer of this type of air transport, however, this model also interested companies from other countries:

  • Poland and Lithuania;
  • Bulgaria and Hungary;
  • Brazil.

After all, the advantages of the aircraft could be appreciated even with the naked eye:

  1. Lightness and maneuverability.
  2. Ability to land on ordinary earth.
  3. Sufficient carrying capacity and comfort.

These characteristics were possessed by the new liner. Photos of the cabin of the aircraft L-410 can be viewed on our online resource.

Aircraft L-410

The first model of the L-410 aircraft, as previously noted, was created in the late 60s. The main goal of the new air transport is to carry out short flights. The capacity of the cabin was to be such that it could accommodate up to 20 people, and the aircraft had to serve airlines with a length of up to 650 km.

The Czechoslovak manufacturer successfully coped with the task set for him, the new model of the air transport vehicle was not only reliable and unpretentious, but also multi-purpose, which, in fact, was required by the customer.

Having received at their disposal a new type of air transport, they began to use the liner for:

  • passenger and freight traffic;
  • for transportation of correspondence;
  • for transportation of patients;
  • for various scientific research.

The new model of air transport was appreciated not only for maneuverability, but also for the ability to take off and land in places where there was no runway, which was extremely important when transporting patients or when conducting scientific research.

The first model, called the L-410, flew up to the sky in the late 60s, however, as manufacturers noted, the engine of the air transport was not enough power. Therefore, it was decided to make several changes to the production process, in particular, they touched the engine. So, by the mid-70s, the upgraded L-410s with a more powerful engine were launched into the series, 5 of which were transferred to the Soviet Union.

The main customer was satisfied with his order and continued to cooperate with the manufacturer, and the first known air transport company, Aeroflot, bought the first air transport. You can see a photo of the Let L-410 aircraft on the site. By the beginning of the 80s, the Soviet Union had acquired more than 100 models of L-410 aircraft, and was not going to stop cooperation.

A variety of aircraft models L-410

The Czechoslovak manufacturer did not stop at his achievements, constantly creating ever more advanced liner models. The production of the following models was established:

  • L 410 UVP;
  • L 410 A;
  • L 410 AS;
  • L 410 M.

The L 410 UVP model was also developed at the request of the Soviet customer, the aircraft was distinguished from its counterparts by the increased wing length and fuselage, as well as the plumage made in a vertical version. Such modernization allowed the liner to take off and land at an even shorter distance, which was the main requirement of the customer.

Demand for air transport from the Czechoslovak manufacturer, of course, subsided after the collapse of the USSR, but the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company helped save the situation, which 8 years ago bought back more than 50% of the shares from the first producer. Currently, partners plan to increase aircraft production, improve the production process, and purchase new modern equipment.

What else do you need to know?

To summarize, we can say that the L-410 airliner is a reliable, unpretentious and maneuverable type of air vehicle, which has a reduced distance for both takeoff and landing. It is convenient to operate vehicles in conditions where take-off and landing of vehicles is difficult. Due to the sufficient margin of safety that was invested by the manufacturers, the aircraft can easily land and take off from unprepared and even from unpaved sites. The spacious cabin, equipped with large portholes, good sound insulation, seats for passengers are located in position 1+2.

This model is able to cover about 1300 km, carrying 19 passengers, and high-quality landing gears made by a special method allow the plane to land even on moist grassy ground. The liner showed itself well when operating in harsh climatic conditions; excellent traction characteristics of the engine allow the aircraft to be used both at high temperature and at very low atmospheric pressure.

Excellent security settings allow you to safely carry passengers, deliver the goods in integrity and without damage. Throughout the history of its existence, the liner has been constantly upgraded by the manufacturer, currently the production of aircraft continues.

Together, manufacturers plan in the coming years to create more advanced models, whose engines have increased power, the luggage space will increase, the cockpit will be equipped with the latest equipment, including avionics.

In contact with

Aircraft L 410 - made in Czechoslovakia, is a small passenger class aircraft. It was developed back in 1966, and in 1969 the first test sample rose into the sky. Through many improvements and upgrades, the aircraft received excellent technical specifications for its time. Let 410 quickly gained popularity and appeared on almost all continents.

The advantages of the L 410 then included: lightness and maneuverability, the ability to land on the ground, comfort and increased carrying capacity.

general information

The model was very popular in the Soviet Union, however, with its collapse, and the collapse of the social camp as a whole, the L 410 was in danger of closing production. The situation was saved by the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company, which bought half of the shares of the manufacturer’s plant and invests in modernizing the aircraft.

The most common version of the aircraft is the L410UVP, which means “shortened runway”. In the world about 400 copies of this model in different countries of the world. The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation plans widespread use of the aircraft for domestic passenger traffic. Compared with the An-2, it had greater safety and comfort. Transfer to the Czech model was very prestigious.

Having considered the modification of the L-410UVP, we note that there is the possibility of landing on short runways, not only with asphalt, but also with unpaved. The aircraft was quite well exploited on the African continent, under the conditions of landing on unpaved roads, or fields. The chassis is not as strong as the Soviet AN-2, but, with its two engines, it is safely operated in any area where aircraft with one engine crash.

Also, the L 410 was widely used as a simulator for cadets of the schools of military transport aviation of the USSR. In particular, this refers to the Balashov Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots, abbreviated as BVVAUL, located in the Saratov Region. It was on this machine that cadets made their first flights.

Aircraft characteristics

L 410 has a three-leg chassis with a nose strut. The full assembly cycle is carried out by a Czech company. More precisely, there is a production line for all stages of aircraft construction.

In the serial version of L 410, 2 turboprop engines of the brand GE H80-200 are installed.

The maximum flight range is about 1,500 km., And the duration is no more than 5 hours. The capacity of the liner is 19 people, not counting two crew members.

  1. Length - 14.42 meters;
  2. Wingspan - 20 meters;
  3. The height of the aircraft is 5.83 meters;
  4. Weight without cargo - 4 tons;
  5. Maximum speed - 335 km / h;
  6. Tank capacity - 1680 liters;
  7. The width of the cabin is 1.9 meters.

Fuel consumption

Another major advantage is the fuel consumption of the aircraft, which is only from 250 to 280 liters per hour.

Safety Let 410

The L-410 cannot boast of reliability - out of 1,100 aircraft, nearly 10% crashed, more than 400 people became victims. However, this is due to the fact that for almost half a century of existence, the aircraft was operated in the most merciless manner. If we talk about the modern model, it is more secure due to the latest technical solutions (autopilot, navigation system, collision avoidance system). Engines are also greatly modified.

Crash L410 in the Khabarovsk Territory

On November 15, 2017, in the Khabarovsk Territory, an L410 plane crashed with 5 passengers and 2 crew members. As a result of the fall of the liner, 6 people died, only a child of about 4 years old managed to escape. An investigation has been organized in which two versions of what has happened are currently being worked out - equipment failure and pilot error. Weather conditions were favorable. So far, the investigation is leaning toward a technology failure, as the crew fought for the plane to the end. A representative of the manufacturer also joined the audit.

The cost of the aircraft L 410

The cost of Let 410 in the latest modification reaches 2.4 million euros per unit. However, there are often private advertisements for the sale of this aircraft. The price tag on the secondary market of aircraft reaches about $ 1 million per copy, depending on age, raid and condition.

History

As part of the CMEA - Council for Mutual Economic Assistance, which existed from 1949 to 1991, Czechoslovakia, as one of the founders of the organization, had the prerogative of creating small airplanes and air taxi. Having serious industrial potential, it produced several types of small airplanes and supplied them to dozens of countries both in the social camp and outside it (including in the USA). But, by the mid-1960s, it was decided to create a small regional aircraft, much larger in comparison with the rest of the line.

The development of the aircraft began in 1966. The first prototype aircraft equipped with the Pratt & Whitney RT6A-27 theater engine (2 x 715 hp), began to undergo flight tests in 1969. The regular operation of L-410A aircraft at the end of 1971 was the first to be opened by the Czechoslovak airline Slov Air from Bratislava serving local airlines - by the beginning of 1974 it had received 12 aircraft. A total of 31 aircraft were built. Five L410A aircraft with RT 6A-27 engines built by the end of 1972 under the designation L-410AC were transferred to the USSR the following year.

In 1973, flight tests of the L410M aircraft equipped with the Czech Walter M 601A theater were launched. L-410M became the second serial modification of the Turbolet. In total, by the end of 1978, 100 L-410 M / MU aircraft were received for the USSR Ministry of Civil Aviation.

In 1979, the production of an advanced modification of the L-410UVP began, which became the main production model. The fuselage, wing and plumage were modernized, and Walter M 601 V (2 x 730 hp) improved engines were installed. This aircraft passed the certification program in the USSR and was put into operation.

A further development was the L-410UVP-E variant with more powerful M 601 E TVDs. It features improved take-off and landing characteristics and a reduced noise level in the cabin. In March 1986, was certified in the USSR.

Exploitation

Since the start of operation in 1971 and by 2009, about 1,130 L-410s were produced, most of which went to the USSR. In Russia in 1992, 750 aircraft of this type stood on the wing. In 2006, more than 300 L-410 aircraft remained in operation in the world.

It is used in civil and military flight schools for the preliminary training of future pilots of long-range aviation and military transport aviation.

With the collapse of the CMEA and the USSR, the production of the L-410 fell significantly, however, aircraft continued to be produced. Let is currently owned by the Russian UMMC (OJSC Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company).

L-410 (photo below) is one of the passenger aircraft models developed by the Czechoslovak company Let. The airliner is designed to transport people, goods and mail over short distances. In its category, it surpasses many analogues in a number of indicators and is considered one of the best.

Short story

Design work called L-410 was started in 1966 in the Czechoslovak city of Kunovice. Three years later, an experimental model of the model rose into the sky. Then it was equipped with Pratt & Whitney PT6A-27 engines. Over the next few years, the designers substantially modified and improved the aircraft. The key innovation was the new Czech Walter M601 motors, which were developed specifically for him at the airline's factory in 1973. Later, the company's engineers created a number of modifications of the L-410 aircraft. The model quickly became popular, and its individual instances appeared on all continents.

In the early nineties of the last century, a real crisis began for the enterprise: there were practically no orders for new liners. The situation changed dramatically only in 2008, when 51 percent of its shares were acquired by the Russian company UMMC (another five years later, it bought out the rest). The new owners of the plant managed to significantly expand the portfolio of orders and make the model truly in demand on the market. As a result, during this time, several dozen copies of the airliners from the line were built and sold to various customers from Ukraine, Brazil, Bulgaria and Slovakia. A significant proportion of them went to domestic consumers.

Now in the world there are just over 400 aircraft of this line of various modifications. According to experts, only for the Russian market the need for these airliners today is about one hundred copies. Work on the modernization of the model does not end at the present time. As for the cost of the L-410, the price of the aircraft starts at 2.4 million euros.

General description and characteristics

The aerodynamic design of the free-carrying high-wing was the basis. The model has a semi-monocoque fuselage of circular cross section and an all-metal construction. The aircraft is equipped with a three-leg retractable landing gear with a nose strut. As for the wings, they are straight and trapezoidal in plan. The model is assembled by a Czech company in a full cycle. In other words, there are equipped lines for the production and assembly of all elements and assemblies, starting from the surface treatment of materials and ending with tests at our own airport.

The serial version of the airliner, which is very popular in our time, is equipped with two GE H80-200 turboprop power plants. The maximum flight range of the model is a little over 1.5 thousand kilometers, while the longest flight time is about five hours. The aircraft is capable of simultaneously transporting 19 passengers on board, excluding crew members.

Key Benefits

Now a few words about the main advantages that the Let L-410 airliner boasts. The reviews of specialists in this field indicate that the main of them can be called the lowest operating costs in the entire category. In addition, the aircraft is reliable and durable even in extreme conditions. The engines of the model are characterized by unique traction characteristics, which are maintained at a fairly low pressure and high temperature. Among other things, this aircraft has the most spacious cabin in its category, a spacious luggage compartment and excellent safety parameters, which allows passengers to provide a high level of comfort. It should be noted that the equipment used here is very variable for installing additional options. Due to its unique landing gear, the vessel is capable of taking off and landing even on short, grassy and moisture-saturated strips.

Exploitation

Currently, the L-410 model is successfully operated in more than fifty countries located on five continents. For the entire period of aircraft production, a total of about 1,100 of its copies were collected. It is most popular in the countries of the former Soviet Union. As of today, the Czech aircraft factory produces a modification of UVP E20, which is considered the most modern and advanced in the line.

Often, Let L-410 aircraft are operated by airlines that provide air taxi services. In addition, the model is very popular in many world government agencies. It should be noted that the manufacturer always provides its customers with all the necessary service support in a timely manner. The aircraft is also available in landing, ambulatory, medical, cargo and executive versions.

The cabin volume of the L-410 is 632 cubic feet. Due to this, even in its standard version, passengers are provided with a rather high level of comfort. At the same time, one cannot fail to note the fact that often its interior is being finalized and additionally equipped for the purpose of further use in the form of a corporate or private aircraft, where there is everything necessary for rest and work.

Extreme Flight

As already noted above, the L-410 aircraft can quite successfully and safely be operated even in difficult weather conditions. According to the technical passport, this airliner is designed to operate at temperatures from -50 to +50 degrees. Thus, thanks to the unique design and heavy-duty fuselage, the model is actively used both in the hot heat of African and Latin American deserts, and in the coldest corners of the planet.

Certification

Aircraft L-410 has been certified and received relevant type certificates in many countries, including the Czech Republic, Russia, Germany, Argentina, the Philippines, Australia, Brazil and others. After the establishment of the European Aviation Safety Agency, the model received EASA certification, the effect of which applies to all In addition, the operation of this aircraft is allowed in many other countries of the world.

Among them there is a plane L-410 years. It is a universal twin-engine aircraft. It is used at short distances. The cabin has a total of 19 seats. It was developed at the Czech factory Let.

Turbolet Let L-410 is the full name of this aircraft. It is convenient in that it can be planted on a variety of types of platforms and runways - unpaved, snowy or not very long. It is operated in military and civilian traffic.

In the 60s last century in the USSR, the creation of a new type of aircraft, which would be used on domestic and short routes, was discussed. First development started at the Beriev Design Bureau. So the type appeared Be-30. At the same time, such a model began to be designed in the Czech SSR.

The plane was supposed to be economical, so they considered using turboprop engines, rather than jet ones.

In 1969 The first tests of Czech aircraft began. They used American engines. By the end of the 60s was produced 31 aircraft.

In 1974 was presented L-410M with Czech engines. Five years later, they released a new, improved modification of this aircraft - L-410UVP. It differed from the previous ones with an elongated fuselage, large wings, and vertical plumage.

He passed certification in the USSR and began to be operated

Other modifications to this model were made. They have take-off and landing characteristics were improved and noise in the cockpit was reduced.

Now they are used in flight schools for training, preparing for long-haul flights or military transportation.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, attempts were made to restore the operation of the Let factory. Demand for the L-410 fell, and production was slowed down. The popularity of this model also declined because the quantity with its participation was growing. Only 106 cars was lost in this way with the total number of victims in 406 people.

In 2013 The Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company bought a full stake in the plant, so three years later they decided to release the aircraft again.
