What to do in Serbia September. Holidays in Serbia. Beautiful velvet season in autumn

Despite the fact that there is no sea in Serbia, holidays in this country are diverse and diverse. There are balneological and ski resorts, architectural monuments and amazing nature. Accordingly, the country is attractive for tourism at any time of the year - it all depends on the purpose of the visit.

  In winter

Thanks to the mountain ranges in the south of the country and the ski slopes located there, the winter time in Serbia is attractive for lovers of skiing. Winter here is warm but snowy. Temperatures are very comfortable for playing sports, but sometimes there are heavy snowfalls. If you plan a trip to other regions, then strong, cold winds, constant rains, blizzards can wait here, winter is still not the best time for European countries, and Serbia is no exception. However, there are pluses in winter: prices at the balneological resorts of Serbia, and so quite low, compared with other countries, are still decreasing, and the number of vacationers is decreasing. And during the winter holidays, big cities, such as Belgrade, Novi Sad, just change. In February, a film festival is held in Belgrade.

  In the spring

The first half of spring in Serbia is still quite cold, windy, rainy. In March, the ski season ends in the mountains, the snow becomes sticky, the tracks are uncomfortable for skiing. But then comes the real European spring - long and unhurried. This time, in my opinion, is the best for traveling around the country, dating ... read more

The modest charm of Belgrade

The trip to Belgrade was initially somewhat alarming. Too contradictory knowledge was about Eastern Europe, in general, and about the capital of the former Yugoslavia, in particular. However, a choice has been made. And here we are at the Belgrade airport. The first impression is pleasantly positive - the border guards simply looked at the passport and, without asking questions and without putting any stamps, were allowed into the country. Indeed, with Serbia we have visa-free entry, but so informally ... There was a feeling that we just arrived in one of the regions of Russia. This feeling was later repeatedly confirmed already in the city. Everywhere there are posters dedicated to the theme of Russian-Serbian friendship. We even found several posters with President Putin on the main street. We got from the airport to the hotel very easily on some PAZ bus. Greetings from the years 70-80s of the last century. It goes through the entire city center to the Slavia square, on which our hotel of the same name stood. This, by the way, in addition to taxis, is the only way to get to the city from the airport.

Serbia is not included in the lists of the countries most visited by tourists, travel agencies do not offer hundreds of leisure options, airplanes to and from Belgrade rarely fill up completely. Among the countries of the former Yugoslavia, it was Serbia that suffered the most from the civil war and the mutual claims of the former "fraternal" republics. For a long time the country was not up to tourists, although back in the 70s and 80s of the last century, the revenues of Yugoslavia and Serbia from tourism were a serious profitable budget item.

Today, tourists are gradually returning to Serbia. And there are several reasons for this return:

  • excellent ski resorts;
  • magnificent nature - parks, organized fishing, hunting;
  • balneological resorts;
  • historical and cultural attractions;
  • low prices.

Russians are free of visa costs when visiting Serbia.

This is not to say that the level of service in this country is at a high level, but the combination of price and quality is perfect here.

Road

The train from Moscow to Belgrade takes almost two days, the road passes through Ukraine and, which does not reduce the cost of the trip. It is necessary to add a fee for a transit Schengen visa to the cost of the ticket, and also take into account the increase in the cost of food on the road. Trains run not every day, but you cannot buy a ticket on the Internet. We add here the high cost of the ticket, comparable to the cost of air travel. The conclusion suggests itself - it’s more profitable to fly!

Several airlines fly from Russia to the Serbian capital at once. Direct flight - 3 hours. Flies Air Serbia and Aeroflot. With a change in Vienna (Austrian Air) fly longer for an hour, plus more time between flights. But the cost of such a flight is less by 50 euros. Moreover, if you take care of the Schengen visa, then on the way to Belgrade you can get acquainted with Vienna, the most beautiful city in Europe, with almost no additional costs.

Direct flight Moscow-Belgrade and back costs 250 euros. With a change in Vienna - 190 euros.

Hotels, hostels, apartments

Even in the capital of Serbia - Belgrade, you can find apartments or a separate double room in a hostel can be found for 15 euros / day. The indicated price does not include breakfast, shower and toilet will be shared, but otherwise - a great option.

If you rent an apartment, then “odnushka” with all amenities costs no more than 8-10 euros / day. In small towns and villages, you can rent a small house in the forest. Such housing is very cheap, and the rest will be the most pleasant and exotic.

Currency exchange

Bank cards are not serviced everywhere, it is better to always have cash with you. Euros and dollars in Serbia must be exchanged for local currency - the Serbian dinar. The course is 1 euro / 122 dinars. Currency exchange is best done at official exchange points or at exchange machines located at the airport.

Restaurants, cafes, gastronomic pleasures

Serbian cuisine is varied and plentiful. Meat dishes are in favor here, and salads and cheeses are not inferior in their originality and taste to French or Italian. Food prices are distributed as follows:

Potatoes with feta cheese
  • breakfast - a piece of cake, apple juice and coffee - 1.5 - 2 euros;
  • lunch in the dining room or restaurant of local cuisine (not tourist) - 4-5 euros;
  • dinner with a glass of local wine or a glass of brandy - 6-9 euros.

Of all the dishes of local cuisine, special attention is paid to:

  • chorba - a thick soup with flour. It happens different, but the best - with young lamb;
  • potatoes with feta cheese - the simplest, but very tasty dish that is served in any cafe, snack bar or restaurant;
  • mukhalitsa - a dish of pork stew with tomatoes and sweet pepper;
  • baklava, Turkish delight and other oriental sweets - have long become an indispensable component of Serbian cuisine, are prepared according to special recipes and taste very different from their "original" versions in the East.

What to see? Where to go?

View of the historical center of Belgrade.

Capital

Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe, but the turbulent Balkan history left no chance for the old buildings. What was not destroyed during the world wars was destroyed during the “perestroika” wars. But this does not mean at all that there is nothing to see in the Serbian capital. Must visit:

  • Belgrade Fortress - the fortification on this site is from the III century. Since then, it has been constantly destroyed by the invaders and rebuilt. Today, you can see the remains of masonry from the X to the XIX century. On weekends, a variety of historical reconstructions take place on the territory of the fortress. Around the fortification there is a park, there is also a military museum and a city zoo;
  • St. Sava Cathedral is the largest Orthodox church outside. The cathedral is modern, but the architecture was copied from St. Sophia Cathedral of Constantinople. The Byzantine solemnity of the temple goes well with the exuberant Balkan colorfulness;
  • Tito's Mausoleum - today - it looks more like a museum, although most visitors come precisely for the sarcophagus with the great president of Yugoslavia, you can also see the house of Milosevic, the last of the country's presidents, nearby;
  • The Royal Palace is the most beautiful decoration of Belgrade. Inside is the city hall, but anyone can see the interiors;
  • Skadarliya is an artistic district of the city, there is a bohemian party, a large number of galleries are located on the streets of the exhibition and sale of local artists.

Scadarlia

Niche

A city with an ancient past, numerous historical and religious sights. Surprisingly, the city retained its special oriental flavor, numerous wars and interethnic conflicts could not destroy the monuments. There is something to see here:

  • City fortress - built back in ancient Rome, on the basis of this ancient fortification the Ottoman citadel was later built, which has survived to this day;
  • Byzantine Basilica - preserved almost perfectly, one of the most ancient sights of the Niche;
  • The city of the devil is a bizarre natural object - mysterious pillars and figures that appeared as a result of soil erosion. Local tradition tells us that in fact these are the contours of churches destroyed by evil spirits. Excursions here are often organized at night;
  • Obrenovicheva street is a tourist and trade promenade of the city. Cafes, restaurants, shops and souvenir shops. Along the way, you can explore several monuments and historical buildings.

“Devil's City” is a natural attraction on Mount Radan.

Resorts

Alpine skiing

There are plenty of opportunities for skiing in Serbia, but the most energetically developing resort is Kopaonik. Hotels are being actively built, the most modern equipment in the country, the network of cafes and restaurants is constantly expanding. In terms of level, the resort lags behind the Alpine, but in terms of prices it is much more attractive than other ski slopes in Europe. Weekly ski pass - 97 euros.

Near Kopaonik you can visit the ancient monastery, as well as the Studenica temple, which stores the miraculous relics of St. Stephen.

Near the ski resort there is an excellent tourist base for those who want to improve their health through tourism. Medical tourism is a growing trend in the treatment of many diseases. Clean air, mountain streams, medicinal teas - you need to use this opportunity until the prices for these services have risen.

Kapaonik is in the top. From the article you will find out what else the cheapest ski resorts are in Eastern Europe and in Russia. The article provides an overview of the most budget places for ski holidays, where prices are 2-3 times cheaper than in the west.

Medical

People come to Serbia to treat chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, anemia, mental exhaustion, and thyroid diseases. But the main thing here is the healing climate, salty springs and mineral mud, allowing everyone to get elegant forms. The effectiveness of the recovery here is so high that many Hollywood stars visit exactly Serbian resorts. They are attracted by the lack of a large number of people wishing to improve their health, low prices and remoteness from the ubiquitous paparazzi.

Vrnyachka Banya is a resort that is rapidly gaining popularity. Mud bath, mineral spring, cultural program, comfort and low prices - what else is needed for happiness? Apartment for two - from 25 euros / day.

When is the best time to go?

Serbia is ready to offer tourists an interesting program all year round:

Freedom Square in Novi Sad
  • summer - treatment, sightseeing, fishing and hunting, swimming season in the lakes;
  • winter - ski resorts, mountain resorts, sightseeing;
  • autumn and spring are a great time to improve your health. At this time, prices for treatment and accommodation are the lowest in the year.

The climate in Serbia is mild, but the four seasons are very bright: here are snowy winters, and golden autumn, and wildly blooming spring, and warm summer. It remains only to choose what is more to the heart.

From Serbia to other countries

The easiest way is to leave Serbia for exploring the sights of Bosnia or Montenegro. A visa is not required for this, but there is the opportunity to swim in the Adriatic and sunbathe on the sea beach, see the ancient Split, or the picturesque surroundings of Sarajevo.

Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia can be reached by bus or train from Belgrade or other cities in Serbia. Train to Podgorica (Montenegro) - 65 euros one way. It takes 10 hours to get there. The best option is a night train, then for inspection. From it you will learn where you can eat tasty and inexpensively in the best budget cafes, pubs and restaurants that are indicated on the map.

Until now, Serbia has not been a priority tourist destination for Russian tourists. Lack of advertising, lack of sea coast, uncertainty of travel agencies - there are several reasons. Today, when domestic travelers are increasingly forced to abandon traditional vacation destinations, Serbia is ready to offer no less interesting, useful, full, safe, budget and full of impressions.

Fraternal Serbia offers effective treatment at mineral spas at very competitive prices, a good "ski" at an equally attractive cost and interesting sights. Ancient Belgrade and the Blue Danube - all about Serbia: tours, hotels, maps.

  • Hot tours  to Serbia
  • New Year Tours  around the world

Serbia is still difficult to call a “promoted” destination, however, in one of the types of tourism, it is now easy to give odds to many countries. We are talking about wellness tours: local resorts are rightfully considered one of the best in Europe in terms of the number and combination of therapeutic factors. At the same time, they have completely modern equipment and set extremely moderate prices for their services according to the “average European” standards. Other advantages of tourist Serbia: good nature, mild climate, wide opportunities for hunting and fishing and a good historical "excursion".

Modestly peering over Europe’s neighbors who are more hyped in the skiing sense, winter Serbia attracts the current discriminating tourist with low prices, a close flight and a Slavic soul. The condition of the slopes cannot be determined unambiguously - rather, an optimistic phrase “he will try” comes to mind. And the country really tries with might and main: new tracks appear every year, as well as "adult chips" like night skiing. Another plus is the extremely affordable ski schools with Russian-speaking instructors.

Climate

The northern regions of Serbia are dominated by a continental climate: summers are hot (average temperatures - +23 ... + 25 ° C, sometimes the air warms up to barely tolerated +35 ... + 40 ° C), winter is long and cold (more often in total, the thermometer column drops to −1 ...− 2 ° C, but frosts also occur to −25 ° C). The climate in the southern regions is temperate continental, in the mountainous regions, respectively, mountainous.

The best time to travel to Serbia is late spring, early autumn and summer months. The season at the ski resorts officially lasts from December 8 (in fact, you can conquer the slopes in November) until mid-March.

The warmest month is July, the coldest month is January, the most precipitation falls in May-June. The main weather feature of Serbia is constant winds: in the off-season in the north, koshava and dry north are blowing to the bones, in the valley of the Morava River - cold Moravac and warm south wind, in the western regions - humid south-west flows from the Adriatic.

Communication and Wi-Fi

The top 3 Serbian mobile operators are Telecom Serbia, VIP Mobile and Telenor. A SIM card can be purchased at company offices, stalls with the press, at the post office and in some stores, while it should be borne in mind that it can take an entire hour or even more to activate it. Express payment cards are also sold there, with the help of which it is most convenient to replenish the balance.

The operator Telecom Serbia has a Super Tourist SIM tariff for tourists for 1800 RSD with 30 prepaid minutes of international calls.

From payphones installed on the streets of major cities, you can call both within Serbia and to other countries of the world. Payphones accept Halo Kartitsa cards valued at 300 RSD, negotiations with local subscribers cost 1.20 RSD, with Russia - 24.50 RSD per minute.

Free Wi-Fi is available in many hotels, restaurants, libraries and other public places. Internet cafes have been opened in big cities, and in the parks of Belgrade you can find benches marked with blue flowers and providing free access to the network.

Travel to Serbia

Serbia beaches

The swimming season in Serbia starts in mid-June, when the water in the rivers warms up to +20 ° C. You can sunbathe and swim until the beginning of October, until the harsh “Koshava” and “Severats” blow. The most popular beaches are located right in the capital. The peninsula of Ada Tsiganliya attracts and adherents of a relaxing family vacation, and fans of water activities. The water here, by the way, is clean: dams with filters connected to the right bank of the Sava River form an artificial lake surrounded by beaches with sand and pebbles. Admission is free, all amenities are in place. For children, special areas with shallow water are equipped, for adults - sports grounds, cafes and bars, equipment rental points.

The Blue Flag is the guarantor of the cleanliness and safety of the coast of Ada Ciganlia.

Lido beach in the Zemun area is not so crowded: swimming is not recommended here, but sunbathing, playing volleyball and relaxing in the coastal bars are welcome.

Another great place for a summer vacation is Novi Sad on the banks of the Danube. This is a resort with a rich history, which has become fashionable among European bohemians already at the beginning of the last century. Today on the Strand beach there is a luxurious shady garden and well-developed infrastructure (from showers and toilets to restaurants of Balkan cuisine). You can diversify the cultural program with fun at the numerous festivals that are regularly held in the city.

Diving

Serbia has no access to the sea, but if desired, you can dive in the waters of the Danube or large lakes. Almost all European species of fish are found here: bream, gudgeon, common carp, catfish, all kinds of sturgeon. At the bottom of the Danube rest the wrecks of the Second World War, but you can dive into them only under the guidance of certified instructors who know the area. In underwater caves, it’s even more dangerous: they are practically unexplored, and even experienced divers are still not at risk of swimming there. There are several dive schools in Belgrade and other Serbian cities where you can rent equipment, book an underwater guided tour and get all the necessary recommendations.

Treatment in Serbia

The health of guests in Serbian resorts is taken care not only by doctors, but also by nature itself. About a thousand mineral springs, healing mud, clean air and a mild climate are all that is needed for the harmony of body and spirit. Of course, doctors also work “excellently”: in numerous hotels and resorts they offer effective physiotherapy and spa techniques designed for patients with any diagnoses. And, which is especially pleasant, the prices for treatment in Serbia are more than moderate in comparison with the average European prices.

What to bring

It is better to bring handicrafts from Serbia: as you try, you can find truly unique gizmos in local shops. Ceramic vases, pots and whistles, scarves and shawls woven on machine tools, dolls in national dresses, patterned flasks for brandies, knitted sweaters and socks - Balkan craftsmen know how to surprise tourists. For fun, you can buy elements of a traditional costume: bast shoes, “opantsi” with curved noses, or hat-caps “shaykachi”. Much more practical purchases - leather shoes and handmade accessories: quality and design are beyond praise.

Serbia cannot be left without gifts: fruit brandy vodka, wormwood Pelinkovac liqueur, herbal tea, aivar caviar and plum jam.

Cuisine and restaurants of Serbia

Accustomed to be at the center of European events, Serbs boldly mix the gastronomic traditions of different cultures: Slavic and German, Turkish and Mediterranean. All the treats are simple and incredibly tasty, with the addition of fragrant spices and Kaymak milk - in a special way fermented and slightly salted.

The traditional first courses are the liquid soup broth and the rich chorba. The second is to try pork sausages “chevapchichi”, chopped meatballs “splash”, chopped “hangers” and pork on a spit “cookies” (not to be confused with flour products!). The ideal combination of meat and vegetables is juvech stew with tomatoes and an analogue of cabbage rolls “sarma” with minced meat and rice. The most original dishes are the dried prosciutto, the stewed lamb “kapama” with salad and yogurt and the thinnest steak “Karajorjna schnitsla”. The fish is used to prepare the fish soup “Chorba rable”, trout with prunes and carp in cream. Instead of fast food - all kinds of pastries: puff pastries with fillings, thin pita pies and donut donuts.

Serbs have a special passion for spicy dishes, so peferoni peppers turn out to be a side dish for almost every treat.

It is better to get acquainted with authentic Serbian cuisine in traditional kafans - establishments with live music, simple interiors and a relaxed atmosphere. In small towns, there are many family restaurants offering regional dishes according to old recipes. In Belgrade, more and more openings are opened with experimental cuisine: that’s where the cook’s imagination can go for a walk. Lunch for two in a standard cafe will cost from 1200-1300 RSD, a snack in fast food - from 450-550 RSD, dinner with alcohol in a good restaurant - from 2000-3000 RSD.

fortresses.

The ethnic village of Drvengrad embodies idyllic memories of Serbia before the Balkan conflict. They belong to Emir Kusturica - “Balkan Fellini”, each film of which is the apotheosis of love for his native land. Wooden houses and churches were originally built as decorations for the tape “Life as a Miracle”, and today they have turned into a popular tourist complex where you can stay for the night, feel the atmosphere and, if you're lucky, even meet with the master living here.

One of the most monumental fortresses belonging to the Brankovich dynasty is located in Smederevo near the capital. There are powerful fortifications in Novi Sad: the citadel Petrovaradin, who defended the Habsburg empire, is a sad reminder of the times of fascism. and the one of a kind Danube Gorge - Dzherdap. The latter is located in the eastern part of the country, on the border with Romania, and has remarkably incredible views, the parking of the Mesolithic hunters Lepenski Vir, the ancient Trajan’s bridge and the medieval Goluback fortress. Local animals - bears, lynxes, wolves, black storks and many others.

The Kopaonik National Park in the southwestern part of Central Serbia is home to wolves, wild boars, roe deer, foxes, hares, ermines and wolverines, and there are already 148 species of birds. In the western reserve "Tara" there are brown bear, chamois, roe deer, lynx, otter and more than 100 species of birds, including golden eagle, white-headed vulture, peregrine falcon, Eurasian eagle owl and black grouse. In the national park "Frushka Gora", under the canopy of broad-leaved forests, deer and roe deer frolic and many birds nest, including white and black storks, burial eagle, balaban and black kite.

Holidays and events

January 1 - Nova Godina, it’s the New Year: Serbian Santa Claus Bozic Bata puts gifts for children in a special stocking, hidden under a Christmas tree. January 5 - Tutsindan folk festival, when lambs and piglets are slaughtered for the Christmas table. The next day, on Christmas Eve Badnidan, men go to the forest for a badian tree - oak logs, an indispensable attribute of the main family celebration, and women cook “cookies”, pies and other goodies. January 7, Christmas, all of this is eaten with pleasure.

January 9 - Republic Day, February 15 - Statehood Day in honor of the country's first uprising of 1804 March 22 - Babies: it's time to clean up, burn garbage, jump over fires and exchange honey pies. The main festivities of spring are Annunciation and Easter: church services are held in the morning, eggs and wine flaunt on the tables, mass festivities with round dances begin in the evening. May 1, like ours, is Labor Day, and 9 is Victory Day. May 6 - Dzhurdzhevdan, honoring St. George and symbolizing the boundary between winter and summer. June 28 - Vidovdan in memory of the great martyr Lazarus.

August 2 - Ilyin’s day: after eating corn, melon, fresh honey and boiled nettle, you can provide yourself with health for a year in advance.

Autumn is the time of public holidays: October 20 - Belgrade Liberation Day, October 29 - Constitution Day, November 11 - Armistice Day in the First World War.

Hospitable Serbia is always open for travelers. You are waiting for national parks and the blue Danube in summer, snowy slopes in winter and delicious cuisine all year round. Pleasant prices, friendly locals, and (as yet) the absence of an influx of tourist groups will certainly please.

general information

  Serbia is a small Balkan state in southeastern Europe, landlocked. It borders with Montenegro, Croatia, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The capital is Belgrade.

The bulk of the population is Orthodox Serbs. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the country entered the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, after the Second World War - into socialist Yugoslavia, which finally fell apart in the 90s of the twentieth century.

How to get there

  Direct flights fly from Moscow to Belgrade; travel time is about three hours. You can also get through neighboring countries, such as Hungary: the bus from Budapest to Belgrade takes 7 hours, but in this case a visa is required.

Climate

  Serbia is geographically divided into two regions - the northern lowland and the southwestern mountainous - therefore the climate here is different. In general, it is quite mild, however, in summer the heat can reach +35 degrees on the plain, in winter the temperature rarely drops below 0, as a rule, it keeps around +5. In the mountains in winter it is quite cold (up to -10) and snowy. Precipitation falls mainly in the spring and autumn.

The best time for trips to the mountainous parts of Serbia is summer, in the plains - late spring and early autumn. Good weather usually lasts from April to November. From the end of November to the beginning of April, the ski season in Serbia.

Transport

  Moving around the country is most convenient, the movement of which covers the whole country, they can also get to neighboring countries. In the country there is, however, its coverage is not so significant, and the speed of movement is simply depressing, in addition, the traffic schedule is not always respected.

Many international rental companies are represented in Serbia, so you can if you wish. It should be noted that renting a car in Serbia is cheaper than in neighboring Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Montenegro.

Many hostels in Belgrade can rent a bike inexpensively

Communication

  The official language is Serbian, while another 12 languages \u200b\u200bhave official status in the regions, including Hungarian, Romanian and others. The older generation remembers the Russian language a little, but most likely you will need only English.

When talking, do not start talking about the collapse of Yugoslavia (the war with Croatia, the Kosovo conflict), the Serbs are keen on this topic. Serbs are a very open, sincere and hospitable people, great lovers of good food and a friendly drink.

Money

  Serbia's currency is the Dinar (RSD). For exchange, you can take both dollars and euros. It is best to change money at banks or exchange offices, pay attention to the rate, it can vary greatly. Bank cards are accepted in most tourist places.

Kitchen

Much can be written about Serbian cuisine, primarily due to the fact that Serbia is an agricultural country, and a huge amount of high-quality food is produced here. It is from this ecological raw material that local dishes are prepared. First of all, it is meat dishes - all kinds of sausages, sausages. Another characteristic feature of Serbian cuisine is the variety of pastries: pies, cottage cheese pancakes, the likeness of pizza - everything is always fresh and prepared in small home bakeries, where the lines line up from early morning.

Souvenirs

  The main souvenir that tourists bring from Serbia is, of course, plum brandy - the Serbian version of vodka. In the mountains you can buy all kinds of woolen goods very cheaply. Popular souvenirs associated with the work of director Emir Kusturica.

What to see and where to go

  In Serbia there are four main cities where you can go for longer than one day: Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Subotica. In all these cities there are numerous museums, exhibitions, private galleries, etc. In the evenings on many summer venues concerts are held, as a rule, with local folk music so adored by the local people (just like in the films of Kusturica).

In Belgrade it is worth visiting the museum of Nikola Tesla with an excursion, where they will not only talk about the life of the great physicist, but also show his inventions in action.

Be sure to look at the mountainous region of Serbia - the cities of Uzice and Zlatibor. There are several national parks in the country. The most popular of them is Dzherdap - the Danube mountain gorge, where the wide riverbed narrows to a few meters. In Dzherdapa it is also worth seeing the Golubatsky fortress.

On the mountain Mechavnik there is a village built for the filming of Kusturica's film "Life as a Miracle." There are 30 houses in the village, all of them were built without using nails. Tourists can stay here for the night.

These tips were born as a result of an independent road trip to Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia with Herzegovina in January 2014.

1.   Direct flights to Belgrade are carried out not only by the Serbian company Jat Airways (now Air Serbia - ed.)whose tickets are usually somewhat cheaper.

2.   Serbian border guards basically do not place exit stamps. There is no trouble in this, unless you are a collector of stamps. Sometimes, however, they forget to put an entry stamp - and this should be monitored. Otherwise, it turns out that you entered the country illegally. It is clear that you are recorded in the database, but until it turns out - you can lose time and nerves.

3. At the Belgrade airport, you can easily rent a car without prior reservation and without blocking the funds on your credit card. Only a deposit of around 200 euros will be requested for a small car. At the same time, it is not necessary to have international rights: Serbs read Cyrillic easily.

4.   The country's currency is Serbian dinars. It makes sense to exchange a small amount right at the airport. Why small? Yes, because absolutely everywhere, even in the hinterland, you will receive the euro. Stock up only on small banknotes. Dinars are needed only for small expenses (for example, a cup of coffee costs 50 dinars, which is about 44 euro cents). The same applies to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where local brands are used.

5.   In hotels in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina they pick up any of your documents during your stay. One document (passport) per group is enough. Do not worry: when you pay the number, the document will be returned to you. A similar practice, by the way, is common in Iran.

6.   Breakfast is usually included in the price, but you should definitely ask about it. Otherwise, they may try to feed you for a fee.

7.   The cost of a liter of gasoline (95th) is about 61 rubles. Therefore, it makes sense to take a small car. Roads in the countries of the former Yugoslavia are good, but we recommend refueling in Serbia - it will come out a little cheaper than in the same Montenegro or Bosnia.

8.   Entrance to the national parks of Serbia is paid. The official price is 100 dinars (less than one euro).

9.   When traveling in winter, be sure to bring thermal underwear, despite the weather forecast of +10 degrees. On the Danube, a completely icy wind. Yes, and the houses are heated with wood and before your room warms up, you will have time to stiffen.

10.   There is no problem traveling by car with Serbian license plates in Montenegro or Bosnia. But a trip to Kosovo can be difficult. In this case, it is better to stick a rent car or RUS sign on the car.

11.   Now you can get to Kosovo only with an open valid Schengen multivisa in your passport.

12.   - One of the few countries where they sincerely rejoice in Russian people. Take souvenirs with you: they will definitely come in handy.

13.   It is on the basis of paragraph 12 that you can always find an overnight stay (free or for a ridiculous 10 euros per person), even if there are no places in any hotel. Just go to any cafe and ask where you can spend the night.

14. In the Serbian hinterland no one speaks English. No problem. Speak slowly in Russian, and even better - in Ukrainian (if you know the language, of course). Seeing that the Serb does not understand you, start listing all the synonyms of the keyword. One of the synonyms will definitely be clear.

15.   Feel free to go to Orthodox churches and monasteries: no one will push you. It is forbidden only to photograph inside. Otherwise, Serbian churches are much more open and accessible than ours.

16.   Do not talk with the Serbs about the war and the collapse of Yugoslavia. Wounds are too fresh, and people are trying to live on.

17.   The food in Serbia is wonderful. The only thing you need to be prepared for is serving size. They are huge. When ordering the same splash, be sure to ask about the weight of a piece of meat: as a rule, you can express your preferences in advance so that you do not suffer from overeating later.

18.   They cannot cook tea in the Balkans. Absolutely. But the coffee is amazing. With sugar - “sweet”, without sugar - “not sweet”, with milk - “with milk”.

19.   In the Balkans, hitchhiking is still developed and the chance to "fall on the tail" is quite large. Of course, people drive free.

20.   What to bring from Serbia? Of course, Slivovitsa (in Serbian "Slivovitsa"). It’s just that you have to buy this alcoholic drink in the village and take at least 8 years of aging (“eight years old”). Over time, the smell of vigorous moonshine, of course, does not disappear, but the taste becomes much better and cheerfulness in the morning is guaranteed.
