Georgia tips experienced. Cribs for tourists: what you need to know about holidays in Georgia? View hotels in different regions of Georgia

The demand for tours to Georgia is increasing every year. There are many reasons: awesome pictures, low prices, rave reviews, delicious cuisine and Georgian wine.

Popular questions

When is it better to go to rest?

If you are not a fan of skiing and want to enjoy the warmth, fruit and the sea, then the best time to travel is from May to mid-October.

In May and June, excellent conditions for excursions (until it’s hot). In September-November, harvesting is underway and fruits can be bought literally for nothing.

To relax on black Sea resorts best between mid-June and September.

Lovers winter holiday ski resorts waiting from December to March. In warm winters, snow cover in Gudauri and Bakuriani is finally formed by mid-January.

Where to spend a vacation

In Georgia, we counted 12 resort towns. Each has its own characteristics, which we examined in detail in. Therefore, you first need to determine the goals of the trips, and then decide where it is better to relax.

For excursions, mountain scenery, civilized service, wine and Georgian cuisine - it is better to go to Tbilisi.

The sea, the sun, the beach with a couple of obligatory excursions are waiting for you in Batumi. The kitchen is also on the level, but in Adjara it has its own differences. By the way, Batumi is the only Georgian resort that we can safely recommend for a family vacation.

Kutaisi is another tourist center of the country. It is famous for eco tourism. No sea, no service, only mountains, canyons and old quarters. In general, Georgia is what it is. Without an emphasis on the tourist, who is felt more and more every year in Tbilisi and Batumi.

Where is better to live

If you are not on a business trip, then it makes no sense to book expensive hotels. In them you will only sleep.

In Tbilisi and Batumi, you can always find accommodation through Airbnb. In the extreme case, look for accommodation options in inexpensive 2-3 * hotels.

When choosing housing in Tbilisi, pay attention to the area of the city. It makes no sense to settle in the tourist center itself (Freedom Square), because a taxi to anywhere in the city costs about 5-6 GEL. It’s cheaper to get here every day by taxi than to pay 2-3 times more expensive for a hotel room or apartment. However, if mobility in the center is important, it is worth considering that traffic jams in Tbilisi can move your plans for 10-15 minutes at any time of the day.

Decide for yourself what you need from the hotel, but we would recommend not to pay more than 50-60 euros / day in high season (off-season prices are 1.5 times lower). As in other cities of Georgia in Batumi a large number of offers at Airbnb.

AT small towns and in remote mountainous areas, you can always find accommodation locally through local or through Booking.com. But it is better to do this in advance through travel agencies in Tbilisi or Batumi.

What to see in the country?

Everyone knows about local hospitality and legendary cuisine. But there is not much information about its significant sights. Here's what we liked:

 • Caucasus Mountains (second highest after the Himalayas)
 • Tbilisi Attractions
 • Wine region - Kakheti
 • Batumi - the most progressive Black Sea resort
 • Mtskheta and Jvari - places about which M.Yu. Lermontov wrote in the poem "Mtsyri"
 • Sources of Borjomi

What language is spoken in Georgia?

Between themselves, residents speak Georgian.

If you have to chat with the local population in stores or on the street, it should be borne in mind that the adult generation (35 years and older) speaks Russian with a pleasant Georgian accent without any problems. But it’s easier to agree with young people in English. They will understand you, but it can be difficult for them to express their thoughts in Russian.

In all restaurants, travel agencies work people with knowledge of Russian. During the whole vacation we only had to ask the locals how to get to the lower station of the funicular of Tbilisi on foot. A student girl in good English explained to us without any problems. By the way, she understood in Russian, but it was easier to explain to her in English.

It is also worth bearing in mind that in the field of tourism there are a lot of visitors from Russia, Armenia and Ukraine.

How do you feel about Russians?

After the military conflict of 2008, tension arose between the countries and if you dig deep, the resentment still remains. But no local person will tell you this. And if he does, he will honestly express his attitude to the policy of the Russian state and note that he has no complaints against the Russian people. They greatly appreciate the friendship and the help that the Russian empire provided to their ancestors in military conflicts.

During the two weeks of our stay, we never once noticed a single sideways glance due to the fact that we spoke in Russian. It is better not to start a dispute with the local population over South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Remember that neither you nor they have true information about these conflicts.

What not to forget to bring with you?

If you are going to relax in the summer, be sure to include clothes for cloudy and rainy weather in your wardrobe. An umbrella, waterproof shoes will definitely not be superfluous in a suitcase.

A light sports jacket in the summer and a warm jacket in the fall will come in handy during an excursion along the Georgian military road and in the caves.

If you are going to winter resorts, then you should take a light jacket with you for walking around Tbilisi. In the mountains, the temperature can drop to -15, and in Tbilisi there is a plus temperature.

How safe is it in the country now?

Before Saakashvili came to power, Georgia was one of the most dangerous countries in the world. But the global police reform (when all its employees were fired), the increase in prison terms not only for bribes, but also for minor violations helped to restore order in the country in a short time.

Now Georgia is one of the safest countries in the world.

On the streets of resorts, police patrols are met constantly. Usually it is enough to tighten your eyesight or turn your head to see a police officer in sight. All of them are young people in good physical shape, with a very high salary and very hold on to their workplace. Therefore, they do not take bribes and do not recommend giving them.

In Tbilisi, it is quite possible to put the phone in an open car and find it in the same place in the morning. For such a trifle, no one wants to go to jail.

The only real risk is taxi drivers and pseudo-guides who can get you money and offer your services. You will definitely see the attraction promised by the taxi driver, but you are unlikely to know historical facts about it, interesting stories and anything else besides what was voiced in the program.

Mobile and Internet

Roaming in Georgia is very expensive. Do not even think about turning on the Internet if you do not have a data plan connected. In our case, unauthorized downloading a couple of pictures from Viber cost 22 euros. We recommend completely disabling mobile Internet even when boarding a plane, so that nothing could be updated independently even when the phone is turned on (as happened with us).

For the Internet we use tourist or local SIM cards . You can buy them for 5-20 GEL in the information tourist centers or in communication salons. You only need your passport to receive it.

Medical insurance

If you are driving on your own, it is better to buy basic insurance, all the more it costs. Unfortunately, cases of poisoning in restaurants are not as rare as we would like. In addition, mountains are always an increased risk of injury, and heat can affect pressure.

In the event that you are planning active walking in the mountains, trekking, hiking and climbing - insurance is required.

What to bring to mind

Georgia has all the necessary souvenirs. Eyes run up from the abundance of horns, daggers, handmade earrings, carpets, and more. But, unfortunately, a lot is either too oversized or a high risk of fake. Daggers, for example, for a long time no one does by hand. Horns are made of plastic .. Therefore, from the height of our experience, we are already somehow calmly treating souvenirs.

We brought home 7 bottles of wine and a liter of homemade brandy. Believe me, no bottle brandy stood next to that grape moonshine that is being expelled in Georgia.

Russian language has a rather limited use. He is remembered, mainly, only by people over 30 years old, and even then only in the central regions. In the mountains, to find a person who is fluent in Russian is practically impossible. The Georgian language belongs to a separate Kartvelian group, writing is built on an independent basis, taking its roots in the ancient East Aramaic type of writing. And given the abundance of local dialects, even a superficial knowledge of the Georgian language usually does not help a tourist.

In Abkhazia they speak their own language, not even remotely resembling Georgian (refers to the Abkhaz-Adyghe group of languages of the North Caucasian family). But almost everyone understands Russian here. Yes, and national writing is built on the Cyrillic basis.

 Currency exchange and price level

The standard of living (and salaries) in the country is extremely low. The average salary in Tbilisi is 400-600 GEL, in other cities 120-200, and even less in villages. Prices, respectively, are also low. At the same time, outside of large cities, large lari bills (not to mention currency) are often difficult to exchange or use when shopping - the seller may simply not have change. Therefore, when exchanging currency, it is recommended to take as many small notes as possible. It is customary to bargain in the markets. Prices in most stores are fixed.

 Tip

Tipping in most establishments is 5%, but in establishments high classIf the service charge is not included in the bill, it is recommended to leave "for tea" 10% of the bill. In other places, you can simply leave change.

 Beaches

When swimming in the sea, it should be borne in mind that most of the beaches are pebble, and the bottom level quickly drops from the coast. Swimming in the sea with waves of great strength and wind above three points is simply dangerous, since the shore is in most cases undeveloped. Most coastal resorts have long fallen into decline, so the cleanliness of the beaches is almost not maintained (the exception is the resorts of Adjara and Abkhazia, where the coast is still being cleaned).

 Traditions

The hospitality and hospitality of the inhabitants of Georgia have been widely known for a long time. Nothing has changed now. Even with such a low standard of living, not a single resident of the country will refuse to help tourists, most often - absolutely free of charge. In the tourism sector, one can still find an openly consumer attitude towards the guest, but in everyday life any Georgian considers it an honor to take the guest to the place of interest to him or give any advice.

The Georgian feast is repeatedly glorified by everyone who attended it at least once. And this is not surprising. Centuries-old traditions and a special attitude to the table and the hearth, as to an integral part of the house and family (and the family is sacred for any Georgian!) Have led to the fact that any meal, especially if a guest is present at it, turns into a feast. Regardless of the level of wealth of the owners, by the way. And often, neighbors, numerous relatives, and even “invited” authorities, who are authoritative in the eyes of a local resident — elders, officials, etc. take part in this feast. This is especially noticeable in the interior of the country.

In any case, a complicated ritual of pronouncing toasts (and there is always wine on the table!), Communication and exchange of opinions about the most diverse events of life comes into play. Moreover, any owner, regardless of whether he shares the point of view of the guest or the interlocutor, or not, will never allow himself to doubt its justice - they are extremely respectful of the opinions of others. Noisy argument - yes. An appeal to all witnesses and authorities - yes too. But the honor of a guest within the house will never be infringed.

A special, emphasized caring attitude to parents (especially to elderly family members) and friends is also immediately evident. All the first toasts are for them. The most best places at the table - also for them. But be sure - in the second (and often in the first) place after friends and close relatives there will be a guest.

There is no particular etiquette at the table. The main thing is not to interrupt the host, to give counter signs of attention to the owner and his family and to "do like everyone else." You can take meat and poultry with your hands, but cutlery is also not forbidden. Bread is taken by hand and is often used as a spoon for scooping sauces and gravy. Greens, constantly present on the table, are taken by hands and consumed “with a bite” with any dish. Many dishes, contrary to popular belief, are washed down not with wine (it was not created for this!), But with pure cold water.

 Ethnic Issues

The relationship between the Georgian sub-ethnic groups, as well as between Georgians and neighboring peoples is a special conversation. The characteristic features of the "neighbors" often serve as the object of endless fun and jokes at the table and in everyday conversation. A Gurian always wanted to “pin up” a Kakhetian, an Imeretian - a Lachin, etc. But God forbid a "stranger" offend his neighbors with an evil word or an unsuccessful joke - almost every local resident considers it his duty to eagerly stand up for the object of ridicule, whether it’s an Armenian, Russian or the same Ossetians, with whom the Georgians, by the way, have many varied disagreements. Therefore talking on national themes should be avoided in every way.

Interethnic conflicts in a country that has been torn by poverty and conflict for many years are more an exception than a rule. In many areas, representatives of different nationalities coexist so peacefully that many tourists do not even find differences between them, considering all the country's many ethnic groups as a single people. The exception is Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which, as a result of armed conflicts, have practically seceded from Georgia - ethnic clashes are not uncommon in these areas.

Issues related to conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia

An extremely sore subject for the vast majority of Georgians. Each tourist who communicates with local residents, at a certain stage, will be forced to hear this or that story, or opinion on this topic. The country has about 250 thousand refugees who left these regions in 1992-93, many of these people live in difficult conditions and without any hope of returning home. Residents of Georgia consider Abkhazia and South Ossetia the territories of Georgia illegally seized from them with the support of Russia. Despite the fact that people always separate the attitude to the state from the relationship specifically to you, it is nevertheless recommended to avoid participating in political discussions. In addition, the stories that you visited Abkhazia and you liked it there are not welcome; speaking this way, you instantly set up an interlocutor against yourself.

 Electricity

The voltage in the mains is 220 V., 50 Hz. Outlets are usually two-contact, "Soviet-style", only in large hotels in the capital can be found outlets european standard.

 Smoking

On May 15, 2006, a law came into force in Georgia prohibiting smoking in public places - in public buildings, in hospitals, public transport, as well as in catering establishments, except for those where customers are allowed to drink alcohol. Violators will have to pay a fine of 5-10 GEL (about $ 3-6), and organizations will pay a fine of up to 200 GEL (about $ 110).

Unfortunately, in fact, the law is not always enforced. For example, tourists planning numerous trips around the country should bear in mind that they will smoke in minibuses, from which your clothes will quickly penetrate the smell of cheap smoke. They try to smoke even in a train compartment, although this is strictly prohibited.

 Community woes

Constant power outages are common throughout the country. Central heating is also absent for a long time (like hot water) and is replaced by air conditioners.

 • Georgia is a hospitable country, feasts are frequent here and sometimes last several days. The main advice at such holidays is not to mix light wine and strong chacha.
 • According to almost all local residents, only Borjomi mineral water is able to cope with the morning hangover after a feast.
 • Toastmaster is the “king and god” of the Georgian feast, it is not worth interrupting it, and if he chose you to pronounce a toast, then it will be extremely impolite to refuse.
 • It’s impossible to leave the Georgian feast just like that, you need to immediately prepare for the fact that you will have to pronounce toasts and say goodbye to everyone for another half hour. The advice here is simple: prepare in advance the time and ways for a retreat.

Traditions, Culture and Cuisine

 • Georgia is a country with a rich culinary history. To try all the dishes, it is better to make a list in advance and try to visit restaurants with only local cuisine.
 • To go to Georgian churches in shorts, with bare shoulders, and girls with bare heads can not. Such tourists, even if they find themselves in the temple, can expel without explaining the reasons.
 • Do not be afraid of loud conversations, rather like a scream. Traditionally, in Georgia, in a fit of emotion, men and women can speak very loudly and actively gesticulate with their hands.

 • Georgian language is beautiful and melodious, but do not try to speak it. Most residents are fluent in Russian, and many speak English. Misguided Georgian words and confused intonation, you can not only get to the wrong place, but just offend a person.
 • When traveling to Georgia in winter, as well as in late autumn and early winter, you need to bring warm underwear with you. Central heating in the country is practically absent. Houses and hotels are heated with electric heaters, so the room is cool.

Police and rules

 • Georgia’s rules should not be violated; in most cases, the police will fine the offender. For disobedience to the police in the country may face real arrest. The hope of giving a bribe should be forgotten once and for all, for giving a bribe a serious term is threatened.
 • Georgia is a free country, but you should not publicly discuss the local criminal world and thieves in law. The point is not that the chatty tourist is facing a meeting with local mafiosi, everything is much simpler, for such conversations you can get into the police for serious interrogation. But jokingly admitted that he is a "thief in law", he faces up to 10 years.
 • Do not try to get into the bus with a hare, there are a lot of traffic controllers, and fines will have to be paid in most cases. Those who do not want to pay a fine are facing a police challenge. If the tourist, unknowingly, got into the bus, then it is worth asking the driver or passenger for help.
 • Pointers everywhere are mainly in Georgian, less often in English. The same situation with street names. Once in an unfamiliar place and not knowing in which direction to move, it is better to ask passers-by. People in Georgia are friendly and will immediately try to suggest the right path.

The idea of a trip to Georgia was born in our company for a simple, essentially, reason: one of us is an ethnic Georgian with a bunch of relatives living in Tbilisi and its environs. When a person who was born and raised in Moscow and does not even remotely resemble the stereotypical Caucasian, so passionately advertises this trend, it is simply impossible to refuse.

Georgia. Alazani Valley

Another question that can motivate the average russian tourist to such a trip? In my opinion, only some echoes of Soviet stories about hospitality and an all-Union health resort. Weak arguments, right? After visiting Georgia, I am ready to strengthen them with dry facts: it is the most calm and Europeanized country in the Caucasus and Transcaucasia. Most civilized if you want.

It is very tasty food. And here it is very, very inexpensive. Did I forget something? Oh yes, there are plenty of beauties and exotic in Georgia! By the way, watching a Mimino movie before making a decision is highly recommended.

I am writing a separate paragraph for attentive viewers of federal television channels. The Russians here are received not with the same hospitality as the Finns or Germans, but with much more! I, if that, warned?

Attractive places and routes

What to watch in Georgia? Our intuitive setup was: Tbilisi, mountain monasteries and sea. If this is formulated more scientifically, then nature and culture are equally interesting there. This is the birthplace of winemaking, one of the oldest alphabets, one of the cradles of Christianity (the first temples here date from the fourth century!), Located on an incredibly beautiful lands, where almost all attractive landforms and natural areas are represented. And an important detail - the country is very small, there is no problem seeing it in a relatively short time.

As the main points of attraction, I would call:

 • Tbilisi, the capital and the most colorful city of Georgia;
 • Kutaisi with its mountain view and legendary history;
 • Batumi with a cool sea and the achievements of modern civilization;
 • Alazani Valley with its views and tastings ;
 • Mtskheta - the ancient capital of the country, recently completely restored ;
 • Mountains with interesting surroundings and the house of Comrade Stalin... well, that's all between these wonderful places.

You will find as many monasteries, fortresses, churches, caves, all sorts of old stories and legends in Georgia as you will look for.
There are also ski resorts in the country, for example, Gudauri. Here I will not dwell on them in detail, this is a separate topic, requiring in the general story, in my opinion, only the most superficial mention.

The second moment for sophisticated tourists - alpine Georgia, Svaneti. Consider this a separate trip that requires capital time and financial costs. Of course, these investments will pay off handsomely, but I would be careful not to inject a visit to the land of Svan in a review trip in Georgia, if you plan to spend less than three weeks on it as a whole.

And the third. Ecotourism. Well, that is, what in the USSR was called simply tourism. Backpacks, tents, cauldron, stew. In Georgia, this phenomenon is now on the rise, and, as a rule, foreigners go wild here. The landing sites and the routes themselves are simply darkness. Small local travel companies often engaged in helping ecotourists.

A separate article is “wine routes”. In Kakheti (especially around the Alazani Valley) one can see with an enviable regularity signs such as “Wine route?”, Transparently alluding to the tasting room of a private winery or winery. Any travel company in Tbilisi will offer you a lot of options for wine tours.

A common practice among tourists who managed to organize a long (over 3 weeks) trip to the Caucasus is the inclusion of Armenia and / or Azerbaijan in their route.

How to get there

In this matter, I recommend not to be smart, but to use air transport, the only adequate way to get to Georgia today. In addition to Tbilisi, there are two international airport, in Kutaisi and Batumi. Back in 2013, the number of direct flights from Moscow was vanishingly small. Most flights were carried out with transfers in Kiev or Minsk. Now the situation has become much better, so if you worry about buying tickets in advance, you can count on a compact three-hour flight at a price of no more than twenty thousand rubles in both directions.

Of course, there are enthusiasts who come here in their cars along the only existing highway (Georgian Military Highway) via North and South Ossetia, but to advise the average traveler “a hand does not rise”.

Direct train connections with Russian Federation currently absent, there is a theoretical possibility to travel by train through Azerbaijan. I doubt it is true that she will interest you.

There is a romantic version of maritime communications - a speed boat of the Comet type, cruising along the Sochi-Batumi route.
Extremely important point! If you have been to the territory of Abkhazia or South Ossetia and have a note in your passport about it, but did not enter these lands through Georgia, you may have serious problems with the local border service (and the law in general). Be careful.

Domestic Transport

When planning a trip to Georgia, we were aware that we are a medium-sized company consisting of quite lazy, but quite curious city residents, most of whom have a driver’s license. Yes, and we wanted the trip not to become too costly.

So, such conditions of the problem, as it seemed to us, prompt two main solutions. Car rental or booking a minibus with a driver. We chose the second and did not regret it for a second. I'll try to clarify. Firstly, it turned out to be more than affordable (in fact, car rental here is also inexpensive, but the gap in price with a car with a guide here is simply insignificant). Secondly, Georgia is very specific and in some places dangerous traffic. On a mountain serpentine, people happily go overtaking before a closed bend, they drive along the oncoming traffic, as they say, "it is necessary and not necessary." Even an experienced driver, accustomed to the Russian road realities, will not adapt immediately and will be very tense at first. There are few traffic accidents in Georgia, but they are usually quite serious. Thirdly, you or your company can safely drink.

And most importantly - your driver will most likely not only be the driver, but also a guide, great knowing the country and responsive to the wishes of the client. In our case, he took upon himself the reservation of apartments and hostels, and also brought to his father's house in the Kakheti village, where he demonstrated that there is a real Georgian feast.

In short, individual tourism is the best choice for a trip to Georgia. Guides-drivers can help in the development of the route, and not only within the country, but also with arrivals in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey. Now private travel agencies and individual entrepreneurs engaged in such a business are very common in Georgia. And everything is very civilized, there is no “scammer” in this area.

On the roads of all directions that had to be mastered, there are a lot of hitchhikers, both domestic and foreign. Apparently, this way of moving in Georgia is quite safe. For comparison, in the Russian North Caucasus, I have not seen a single stopper.
It is hardly possible to travel fully by public transport here. Railways rather poorly developed, and shuttle Buses unless delivered from Tbilisi to Kutaisi and Batumi.

Comfort and price issue

Georgia - inexpensive country with a booming tourism industry. It is nice that this industry is growing "from below", i.e. from the level of small entrepreneurs who often invent an original set of services and do not disdain dumping in the best sense of the word. Moreover, today it is not profitable to deceive your customers here. The business is conducted in a transparent European way, and the attitude towards the guests is in a Caucasian manner.

The trip will cost quite inexpensive, given that a hearty dinner with a drink in a decent institution is unlikely to cost more than 10 euros, and a night in a conveniently located modern guesthouse (with single or double occupancy) will ease your wallet by about 20-30 euros per day. By the way, in most guest houses a very hearty breakfast is served. The services of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minivan with an incredible guide-driver cost us 150 euros per day. Draw your own conclusions, gentlemen, travelers.

What not to do, what not to say and what not to mix - tips for tourists from the site.

Photo 1 of 11:© travelgeorgia.ru

In one small, but very proud country called Georgia, there live friendly and hospitable people.

Be prepared for the fact that you get drunk with wine just because you are a traveler and stopped right next to this house to ask for directions.

You will be treated to the most delicious khachapuri called Titanic in the world, many wonderful legends and sincere toasts will be told, and you will be asked to drink to the bottom “for peace” and “for Georgia”.

Guests in Georgia are sacred. And in order for you to be “right guests” in Georgia, we have compiled a list of things that are not worth doing here:

1 .One of the most important and first-hand checked tips for tourists in Georgia - do not mix chacha with wine.

Feasts in Georgia are long, because for Georgians meetings at the table are communication. The main thing here is to correctly calculate your strength. After all, there are several obligatory toasts, for which you simply can not help but drink to the bottom.

If you have taken up wine, drink wine all evening, and if you have chosen chacha, do not change it with anything.

2 . If you still violated paragraph "1", there is still a way out - never try to defeat a hangover with the help of anything other than Borjomi.

In the morning, after long feasts, Georgians always improve Borjomi’s health. Four glasses mineral water - and you can drink on.

3 . Our third tip is also related to the feast - never interrupt the host. Toastmaster is the main person at a feast in Georgia. He keeps order, his word is law, which does not obey which means to disrespect Georgian traditions. He himself can convey the honor of making a toast to someone else.

4 . And the last advice related to the feast - do not try to slip away from the Georgian feast. You just never let go. Having declared that you are going to leave, get ready to drink the obligatory toasts for at least another half an hour and only after that you can say goodbye to the owners and the host.

5. Do not yawn on the streets in Georgia. Today, Georgian cities are a continuous building. Scaffolding on all facades, open roads, mountains of sand, people repairing something even at night - this is how streets in all cities of Georgia look today.

Everywhere something is being restored or built - therefore, on Georgian streets you need to be as careful as possible so as not to get into a hole, get under a brick or under a car.

6 . Do not give alms to the gypsies.

This advice is about the feeling of compassion that many people have. Guided by such a noble impulse, you can succumb to the entreaties of cute, murdered gypsy children on the streets of Tbilisi, "give a penny." But as soon as you show weakness, you will be surrounded and knocked down, asking for more and more.

7. Do not go to temples in shorts, with your head uncovered and bare shoulders.

There are many ancient temples in Georgia, and there is not enough time to see everything, as always. If you went on an excursion to the temple on the way from the beach or to the beach, be prepared for the fact that you will not be allowed into the shrine.

Moreover, if you did come in, they might kick you out with screams. In Georgia, this is very strict, and Georgians respect their traditions - you can’t enter the church with bare shoulders, in shorts, slippers and girls with their heads uncovered.

8. Georgians are open people. They like to sing loudly, have fun, and talk loudly in the streets. But what’s better not to talk out loud about is thieves in law. The fact is that since 2004, Georgia declared war on "thieves in law." Georgian law enforcement officers took into account the fact that, according to the "thieves' code," the thief in law could not deny his title. Therefore, such a norm was introduced in Georgia: if a person has publicly admitted that he is a "thief in law" - go ahead in jail for 10 years.

9 . In Tbilisi it is better to speak Russian or the worst English, but in any case not in broken Georgian. Twisting this beautiful language, you run the risk of getting into a funny situation. For example, many tourists pronounce the name of the city "Gori" so that it turns out to be a "pig." There are some nuances in pronunciation that are elusive to the traveler’s ear.

10 . And finally, again about the feast - well, you just can’t be in Georgia and ignore Georgian cuisine. Do not go to pizzerias and fast foods.

© IDS Borjomi International

On the street or in the restaurant, be sure to try the world's most delicious pita and khachapuri, the original recipe of which is in every region of Georgia. Famous suluguni cheese, barbecue with fragrant Georgian seasonings, mouth-watering khinkali - to be in Georgia and not try it all is simply a sin.
