The name of the airlines. RBC study: what Russia flies on. Airline preferences

In connection with the increasing reports of aircraft crashes, in particular low-cost airlines, many have seriously become concerned about flight safety issues. Air transport is generally considered one of the safest means of transportation. To dispel fears and speculation, you can trust trusted carriers. The most reliable airlines in the world are included in the respective ratings.

The issue of safe flights is carefully studied not only by ordinary passengers, but also by large statistical agencies. The most respected airline reliability ratings are held by the German company Jacdec and the European Aviation Safety Agency, which publish safe carrier lists according to research. When calculating the coefficients, the parameters for the past thirty years are taken into account.  Other major international aviation organizations are also involved in safety audits.

The calculation is made taking into account various indices having different specific gravity. So, the recent accident will have more weight than the disaster that happened many years ago. When calculating, the following parameters are taken into account:

  1. The total number of passengers served.
  2. The total number of victims of disasters.
  3. The number of ships destroyed or lost.
  4. The number of breakdowns and emergency landings, runway limits, etc.
  5. Rating of the state-owner of the company: the thoroughness and transparency of incident investigations.

The longer the airline operates without incident, the higher its position in the ranking. The safety index obtained as a result of the calculations should be as small as possible, which will indicate the reliability of the company. Carriers with a high index, respectively, are less secure.

The safest airlines in the world

For the second year in a row, Cathay Pacific Airways comes first in various agencies.

Over the years, the company from Hong Kong has been a leader in the list of reliable carriers. For 30 years, the only incidents were a hard landing at the airport and two terrorist attacks on airplanes. The airline safety index is 0.006.

Emirates is in second place with a safety index of 0.007.  Over the years, only two incidents have been associated with this company, in which passengers were not injured. Airlines cooperate with S7 and make regular and charter flights from many cities of Russia.

In third place is the company Eva Air, located in Taiwan.  There were no serious incidents in her activity, with the exception of going out of the lane, a false report of a mined vessel and an emergency landing due to the poor health of one of the passengers. The Eva Air Safety Index is 0.008. This airline does not operate within Russia.

Safe airlines in Russia

Not all internationally recognized airlines operate in Russia. This, however, does not mean that in our country there are no carriers for the reliability of which there is no need to fear. A security index not exceeding permissible norms is possessed by a number of Russian enterprises. Consider which airline in Russia is the most reliable.

In addition to the above parameters, the calculations take into account the punctuality of the carrier, the age and general technical condition of the ships and their compliance with international documentation and standards. We list and consider the most reliable airlines in Russia.

According to EASA ratings, Ural Airlines became the leader in Russian air transportation for 2017. Her rating is 0.24 points. The company is characterized by high reliability: for a period of 14 years, it did not have a single incident where there were victims.

The second place to date is occupied by S7 Airlines, formerly referred to as Siberia.  Despite the fleet of aircraft, whose age can reach 20 years, their technical condition does not cause concern among international commissions. At the beginning of 2000, the company was going through difficult times when about 300 passengers died as a result of the crash. Today, flights of this carrier are reliable and quality.

Aeroflot holds various positions depending on different data. In 2016, it was characterized by a safety index of 0.108 points and was among the top 60 reliable global carriers, gaining a foothold in 36th place. This is a high figure that exceeds the parameters of many large foreign companies.

According to 2017, in Russia it is in third place and gets 0.38 points. In many ways, disasters that occurred back in the 1990s influenced the assessment. Now the company is steadily updating its fleet and is characterized by reliability and high quality services.

Transaero also previously entered the list of the top 60 companies in the world, ranking 17th with a rating of 0.024. To date, airlines have ceased operations.

The Khanty-Mansiysk carrier Uteyr is today a large popular company, whose aircraft fleet consists of young equipment. She specializes in short regional flights. The last major incident in airline operations was the crash of a cargo helicopter.

Alternative Security Ratings

In addition to generally recognized counting systems with a safety index, there are other classifications of companies that some agencies provide. So, British researchers study companies based on their punctuality, where one of the lines was taken by the Russian S7 Airlines.

Skytrax has created a product called Quality Rating. The service is based on monthly calculations of company performance indicators and is constantly updated depending on the data received. The creators of the service emphasize that their calculations are not based on data on disasters, since such incidents can occur through no fault of airlines.

A thorough analysis here includes the parameters of personnel compliance with safety standards and the availability of training courses in case of an unforeseen situation. Agency experts visit companies to identify and rank. At the same time, carriers are not assigned marks or indices, but stars.

Five companies were awarded five stars, among which there are two enterprises included in the Jacdac and EASA ratings. These are Cathay Pacific Airways and Qatar Airways.

The list also includes Russian airlines.   So, S7 Airlines and Aeroflot were awarded three stars in the ranking, and Russia received two stars.

Probability and causes of disasters

A rather big resonance was caused by the catastrophe of the FlyDubai ship in Russia. After the incident, a number of sources claimed that the crash was caused by neglect of flight safety measures. These data were not confirmed, but there were no less questions for low-cost airlines.

It is worth noting that rumors about the incompetence of low-cost pilots and outdated equipment are fundamentally wrong. The personnel and equipment of such companies comply with all international requirements, and the difference between such flights and standard departures is in price and service.

Air travel for many has become an integral part of everyday life. Business trips to different parts of the country and abroad are always associated with the purchase of air tickets, during which everyone tries not only to find a favorable price offer, but also to fly with a reliable air carrier.

Especially for you, we have compiled a list of Russian airlines in 2020, distributing them in the ranking according to the degree of reliability and trouble-free safety in accordance with studies by the German agency Jacdec, the European organization EASA and international organizations IOSA and ICAO.

When calculating the aviation security index, disaster data for the last 30 years, as well as passenger traffic, the number of victims and lost airliners, are taken into account.

In compiling the list, we also took into account the level of service on board and the average age of Russian airlines. Rating statistics on the number of airliners and their average age are compiled according to data for March 2016.

Rating of Russian airlines in terms of reliability and safety for 2018-2019

What else to see:

Choosing one or another airline for a flight, almost everyone is based on the concept of reliability and safety. This applies to the design of the liner, as well as the upcoming flight. According to sites conducting research in the field of flights among Russian airlines for safety, the best airlines in Russia still hold their ground.

The airline market is constantly under development, and passenger traffic is growing every day.

What should I look for when choosing an airline?

In many airlines, in order to increase passenger flow, various promotions are held that promote discounts on reuse or lower airfare. What can this be connected with and what can be reflected in?

  • Customer service level.

When purchasing tickets, it is imperative to pay attention to what category you fall into. Depending on the class of service, the difference in service and, consequently, in the cost of tickets appears in the future. Even at the best Russian airlines, airfare prices are distributed depending on the class chosen by the client: economy, business and first.

  • Frequency of flight delays.

Sometimes it happens that some carriers have frequent departure delays. As a rule, this happens with charter flights. But sometimes departures are delayed by regular flights. The reasons may be different. For example, many departures in one direction, waiting for their turn, additional checks of the side or emergency repairs. Developed companies strictly monitor the technical condition of air transport and equipment, and also calculate flight times in such a way as not to create flight delays, taking care that customers are delivered to their destination on time and on time.

  • Service on board.

Thousands of flights are made every day, often their routes intersect. Due to this, there is a lot of competition. In order to attract customers to themselves, carriers try to diversify the additional services offered on board. Nowadays, many people at work need a constant Internet connection, including at the height. Such a service has now become available among the best airlines in Russia. For an additional fee, you can be online during the flight and work on the Web.

If the trip lasts more than 6 hours, passengers are given pillows and blankets. But even if the flight takes a very short time, there is always the opportunity to ask for a pillow and a blanket.

  • Meals on board.

Flights over 3 hours are already considered long and, as a rule, include meals on board. Depending on the class of service and airline, the menu for passengers differs in its selection. Usually, if the flight takes place at night or early in the morning, a choice of juice, tea, coffee and a light meal is served, and a hot dish, tea, coffee or juice with snacks are served day and night.

  • The technical condition of the liners.

Not all airlines regularly update their fleet. Many customers, before the flight, nevertheless study information on the state and number of aircraft in the fleet of the selected carrier. As a rule, among the best airlines in Russia, the fleet is regularly updated. The new aircraft subconsciously evokes a feeling of greater reliability than a liner with cracked skin. The new aircraft have modern equipment, they are equipped with the latest developments in the field of technology specializing in aviation. They can develop high speeds, while consuming less fuel. It is known that in the fleet of low-cost companies, as a rule, most liners are completely new, because less money is spent on their maintenance. This makes it possible to lower ticket prices.

  • Airfare

For most customers, the price of the ticket plays a decisive role in choosing a flight. Air carriers arrange various promotions or temporarily reduce the cost of a certain direction during a non-seasonal period. To attract more customer attention, many airlines have resorted to such a marketing move, as indicating next to the price information that there are only a few seats at this cost.

Airline Marketing Tricks

It is also noted that if you request the same date on the same site, then initially the low price is no longer displayed. In order to see cheap tickets again, you need to go from another ip-address. You can try just changing your browser. Tickets purchased a few months before departure are usually 25% cheaper than those sold a few days before the flight.

Among the top 10 airlines in Russia, the most important ones can be distinguished by rating, security and the number of flights made.

Aeroflot

Aeroflot still holds the leading position, transporting more than 20 million people over the previous year. Being one of the oldest and largest airlines in the world, it regularly carries passengers since the mid-20s of the 20th century.

According to research conducted in 2016, it is considered one of the safest airlines in the world. Over the previous year, passenger traffic grew by 12% compared to 2015. Today, the company ranks first in the ranking of the best airlines in Russia.

S7

For many years now, the Siberian air carrier has shown itself as a reliable company and is gaining the trust of more and more customers. Carrying out communication with the largest cities of Russia, she often holds campaigns and places special offers on her website. Thanks to this, many people fly S7 flights in Russia in business class at fairly affordable prices.

According to a study to identify which airline is the best in Russia in 2016, carried out on the basis of an anonymous questionnaire, the number of booked seats in classes with increased comfort was made by people making flights on business and business trips. By operating flights to 80 destinations in Russia and abroad, the company cooperates with partner airlines, including even the world-famous British Airways.

By selling combined tickets, S7 manages to reduce the cost of flights by making transfers and connecting flights. Over the past year, about 10 million people took advantage of airline flights.

"Russia"

As a subsidiary of Aeroflot, Russia is also among the top best airlines in Russia. Over the past year, more than 7 million people have used the services of this carrier in various areas of the country and abroad.

The growth dynamics of air tickets sold amounted to more than 40% compared with previous years. The airline is based in St. Petersburg and carries out most of its flights from Pulkovo. Flights under numbers 6 are operated on behalf of Aeroflot, and those starting at 5 under the name Russia.

Utair

The Russian airline Utair has been flying since the mid-20th century and is also considered one of the best airlines in Russia. In addition to the fleet of airliners, with more than 60 airliners, it also has a fleet of helicopters.

Over the past year, the airline transported more than 5 million people, which increased its turnover by about 19%. Based at Moscow Vnukovo Airport.

Ural Airlines

The air carrier has been operating scheduled and charter flights on the Russian aviation market for more than 20 years. During flights within and outside the country, the company transported more than 5 million people last year. It has a wide fleet of liners, which are mainly air buses, and is one of the five best airlines in Russia.

The company is based in Koltsovo in Yekaterinburg and Moscow Domodedovo Airport and operates flights to more than 200 destinations. A few years ago, she opened her own simulator for the training and education of pilots.

Summarizing

In this case, it is difficult to answer the question of which airline is the best in Russia. The answer may be subjective. After all, each person has their own preferences and tastes. Which airline to give preference to, will have to decide on their own based on personal wishes and experience.

What, first of all, does a passenger want from an air carrier? It is comfort, reliability and safety. Also, he will not give up an acceptable level of service and, of course, he will not be against the punctuality of the company's employees: it is unlikely that any of us will like long flight delays.

Guided by these inquiries from airline customers, we made a rating of the best Russian airlines, which is based on the expert assessment of several independent consulting agencies and the opinion of passengers who have already used the services of carriers.

TOP 10: The best airlines of Russia rating for 2020

To make the rating the most truthful and versatile, we used mixed statistics in the article. Firstly, this is a direct survey of customers, and secondly, the assessment of experts. Employees of some consulting agencies, under the guise of “secret passengers,” checked the level of service on their own experience: the cost of tickets, the quality of food on board the plane, the general level of service, and the time of flight delays (if any). The total rating was summarized by us in the column “General rating” of our table.

Which airline is best to use?

The final choice depends on your preference. For example, if safety is important to you first, then try to choose companies using new airliners. Such, conditionally, can be considered any aircraft with an age of up to 12 years (after this period they must undergo a mandatory thorough repair). Also, do not forget that the smaller the company, the lower its financial turnover, therefore, they spend less money on servicing air assets. Additionally, before the final choice, do not be lazy and look at the statistics of accidents and incidents by airline: this data can be found on many public Internet resources.
