East of the Bay of Kotor is the high rocky coastline of Lustica and Grbala. Nearby Jaz and Trsteno bays, the terrain is gradually changing. The coastline decreases, small and large bays with pebble-sand beaches located in them appear between the rocks. This is the pearl of Montenegrin beach tourism - the Budva Riviera. It is here that true lovers of tanning and swimming prefer to relax. The Budva Riviera is located on 35 kilometers of the coast. 12.5 kilometers of them are beaches, the most popular of which are Becici, Slavic and Mogren. The territorial location of the Budva Riviera is also optimal for organizing sightseeing trips around Montenegro, because it is here that the two main highways to Podgorica begin - one from Petrovac past Skadar Lake, and the second from Budva, passing through Cetinje.
 Resorts

Budva is the main tourist center of Montenegro. It has everything: discos, restaurants and bars, casinos, sports fields, tennis courts. This place is suitable for lovers of active and fun holidays. At the height of the season, life in Budva does not stop for a minute, and the streets of the city never empty. In addition, being founded 2500 years ago, Budva is one of the oldest settlements on the shores of the Adriatic. So fans of antiquity and cultural attractions here will not be bored either. Budva consists of the New Town (where most hotels, restaurants are located and the legendary Slavic beach stretches) and the Old Town (a small picturesque citadel with a church, narrow streets and cozy houses). The new city stretches along the coast of the bay, which in the north ends with a cape, on which the fortress of the Old City is located. The main resort street - with cafes, restaurants, attractions and discos - runs parallel to the promenade. Not far from Budva, within sight, is the island of St. Nicholas, one of the few islands off the coast of Montenegro. The so-called Adriatic tract (Jadran Road) passes through the city - a highway connecting numerous settlements in Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia, and Croatia.
Most of the sights are located in the Old Town, which is surrounded by a powerful fortress wall and permeated by narrow winding streets. In the center is the city citadel, where the museum is now located. Near the citadel there are three ancient churches: St. John (7th century, with subsequent restructuring), St. Mary (Crkva Santa Marija, 840) - the only surviving building from the monastery that once existed here and the Church of the Holy Trinity (1804). To the west of St. John’s Cathedral, on Starogradski Square is the Archaeological Museum, which includes about three thousand historical exhibits found in Budva. Opposite the museum, on the other side of the square is the Church of the Holy Trinity (Crkva Sv. Trojice), even further - the square of the Churches (Trg Crkava) with a small 14th century cathedral of St. Savva (Crkva Sv. Save). In addition, it is worth taking a walk along the city wall and going out to Trg Poete Square, which is located at the intersection of Negoseva and Zanovuci Streets. In the summer, almost every evening, writers and poets read their works to the assembled public. In almost any part of the resort you can find an appetizing restaurant without most, but most of them are located on the approach to the Old Town. Paragliding (760 m above sea level) can be done in Brajici, or pre-booked a lesson with an instructor in one of the agencies offering their services on the boardwalk. 40 m bungee jumping is located near the cave, at the end of the Slavic beach. In addition, in Budva you can ride a jet ski (in Becici) and even dive. The resort has several dive centers; one Galiola dive site (maximum depth - 24 m) is located near the island of St. Nicholas, the other Platamuni (maximum depth - 35 m) is not far from the Jaz beach.

Becici and Rafailovici are two small resort villages four kilometers from the center of Budva and one and a half kilometers from each other. Becici attract tourists, mainly with a developed, well-functioning leisure infrastructure and a magnificent beach. The beach here is quite extensive, small-pebble. In 1935, it was he who was recognized as the best in Europe. The resort is a modern tourist center with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, the conditions are created here for a relaxing holiday, and for active sports. The wide sandy beach of Becici with a length of 1.5 km in 1936 was awarded a gold medal and the title of "The Best Beach in Europe" at the international competition in Nice.
Becici is suitable for both a relaxing family and active sports holidays, all the conditions for water sports are created there, including a water skiing installation. Every year, an international beach soccer tournament is held in Becici, in which world-famous stars often take part. There are also facilities for volleyball and basketball, tennis courts, bike paths, gyms. For lovers of water sports there is the opportunity to go rafting or paragliding - paragliding. A lot of joyful emotions will bring such entertainments as a parachute, riding a catamaran or a "banana". Special playgrounds with all kinds of swings and carousels are designed for young children. A picturesque boulevard framed by shops, restaurants, bars connects Becici with Budva.

At the end of Becici beach is a small resort village Rafailovici. The resort is a modern tourist center with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, the conditions are created here for a relaxing holiday, and for active sports. In addition, Rafailovici is considered one of the most picturesque fishing villages in Montenegro. The land of magnificent landscapes, outdoor activities and great ecology is the choice of tourists from many countries of the world. The village is located at the very edge of the sea, on a beautiful golden beach. The qualities of this beach were confirmed in 1935 and 1936 by prizes of authoritative commissions; it was named the best beach in Europe. Since then, the popularity of beach vacations in this region has not decreased. Sea, sand, greenery - all unrealistically beautiful flowers. Here you can not only sunbathe, but also play sports. Opportunities for rafting, diving, tennis courts, sports complexes will help maintain physical fitness and recharge your batteries. It is advisable to combine a beach holiday in Rafailovici with excursions around Montenegro, on the territory of which, as you know, many historical and architectural monuments and simply beautiful and curious places. A traditional excursion from the Rafailovichi to the miraculous acting monastery of Ostrog. For nature lovers, a trip to the canyon of the Moraca River will be interesting. It is in this canyon on a picturesque plateau surrounded by rocks that an ancient monastery is located. After visiting its buildings, you can explore another canyon - the canyon of the Tara River, one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe. Tara Canyon is not only beautiful, it is the second largest in the world after Colorado, and its depth reaches 1300 meters. An excursion to the valley of 18 lakes is also interesting. Such a large concentration of lakes is characteristic only for the landscape of Montenegro and is not found anywhere else in the world. Lakes are formed by glacial waters. A boat trip from Budva to Petrovac is very popular among those who relax in Rafailovici. A boat trip along the Boka Kotor Bay can leave indelible memories, because it is not for nothing that this bay is considered one of the most beautiful in the world!

Pržno - the old small towns have a special charm that does not wane over time. Only their residents and guests change. Once upon a time in the tiny Montenegrin town of Przno there lived fishermen, their families and sea swallows. Then there was built a summer residence of the royal family of Karageorgievich. Now anyone can come to Pržno, if only he loves the mountains, the sea, lush greenery and the unique atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Despite its miniature size, Pržno has cafes, restaurants, pharmacies, ATMs, communication shops and various shops. Products, items and souvenirs of all kinds can be bought without difficulty. The town is surrounded by greenery and is reliably protected from the winds and cold by the mountains. Thanks to them, there is a very long swimming season, the sea becomes an acceptable temperature in May and does not cool down until October. People sunbathe and admire the stone islands with the ruins of ancient buildings, here and there visible in the bay. The most popular beaches of the town, without a doubt, are the Queen's Beach, named after Maria Karageorgievich, who loved him, and the Beach of King Alexander Karageorgievich. Small pebbles, large sand, piercing color clear sea. The town is extremely beautiful and romantic as much as the former fishing village can be. Narrow stone streets, a cozy promenade, paths and stairs curling up and down. Clean mountain air mixes with the aromas of the sea, olives, pomegranates, pines and other vegetation.

Milocer - is located 6 km from Budva and 28 km from Tivat Airport. The village is one of the most prestigious holiday destinations in Montenegro. It is here that the park of the former royal residence of the Karadjordjevic family is located. The territory of the royal residence of the Karadjordjevic family represents 18 hectares of a beautiful French park, a true masterpiece of landscape design, and beautiful beaches, the most beautiful of which is the Queen's Beach. It is very beautiful, small - only 200 meters - pebble beach, bordered by cypresses and olives. Milocher’s main attraction is its huge botanical garden, where you can see plants brought from Asia, Africa and America. The garden was formerly owned by the royal family, but now it is accessible to everyone. Rare and relict plants, such as tropical mimosa, Lebanese cedar, Japanese medlar, magnolia, agave, cacti of various species grow here in natural conditions. It is also worth admiring the Durmitor - a mountain range with lakes. On a small hill above Milocer, the ancient Praskvitsa monastery, founded in the 17th century, seems to be hovering. The temple of the Transfiguration of the Lord and the temple of Alexander Nevsky are also interesting for tourists. And the village itself attracts the attention of lovers of medieval architecture: it is carefully preserved here and, if necessary, restored. Narrow winding streets, paved with stone, small squares, churches retained their originality and color, and the flying time made them even more attractive.

St. Stephen - is located about five hundred meters from the Adriatic coast of Montenegro. This is not just an island, but an island hotel: hundreds of old houses converted into luxury apartments. Exterior decoration of houses is made in such a way that reconstruction does not change their appearance in any way. Thanks to the careful attitude, this tiny village has retained its medieval flavor and character. It is not for nothing that this island was chosen for their holidays by members of the royal families of the Netherlands and Great Britain - a combination of modern equipment with an authentic reconstruction and more than a safe environmental situation. Saint Stefan is located 9 km south-east of Budva and it is equally convenient to get to it from both Montenegro's international airports: from Tivat and from Podgorica. On the beautiful promenade from St. Stephen's Island you can get to the village of Milocer, which is known for its vast park, which at one time was the property of the royal family. Numerous relic and rare plants in this park are striking in their beauty and variety of forms, types and shades of green. The Queen's Beach, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Europe, is also interesting here. In the immediate vicinity of the island is the medieval Praskavitsa monastery and a church carved into the rock. This attraction attracts many tourists coming to Montenegro from all over the world.
 Beaches

Budva beaches begin on the seashore of the Lustica peninsula - here is the wild beach of Dobra Luka. It can be reached by sea or by car through Dzhurashevichi and Radovichi. Dobra Luka is an ideal place for those who do not like crowds and prefer the virgin beauty of the wild. If you go here by car, the parking is located in the town of Radovici, where there is a beach - Oblatno, small (150 m in length) and rocky.

The Plavi Horizonti Beach is marked with the Blue Flag from year to year: it is an international symbol, an award awarded to yacht and boat parking and beaches that meet high environmental standards and have high-quality safety and service facilities. The blue flag is a kind of certificate of quality for beaches, a symbol of the high standards of service quality that they maintain for a long time, which is issued only for one year. Candidates for the award usually must pass national approval. And then the final decision is made by the European jury. The beach is located in the town of Pržno on the Lustica peninsula, between Bigovo and Tivat (not to be confused with Pržno, which is between Milocer and St. Stephen). The beach, located at the hotel of the same name, is famous for its fine sand, which is considered healing. Olives and pines, which serve as a natural source of shade, are especially popular for the beach. The length of the beach is about 350 meters, the shallow water allows you to relax here with children who still can not swim. There is everything you need, including rescue services and sports fields.

The Bigovo beach is located in the Lower Grbal valley between Tivat and Budva. The bay here extends deep into the mainland, which is why this place has long been used by fishermen as a refuge from storms. To this day, fishing is the main industry of the local population. Fishing fiestas are held here, where you can taste beautiful fish. The sand of Bigovo Valley is known for its wound healing properties. On the beach there are parking, marina, catering.

The completely wild beach уковukovica, 200 meters long, is located on the Grbal peninsula from the open sea. The infrastructure is completely absent here: only the rocky coast, sometimes sand, around the beach overgrown with evergreen shrubs - nature in all its glory!
Another wild and, which is especially valuable for lovers of pristine nature, inaccessible beach - Mala Krekavitsa (Mala Krekavica). This is a small, completely equipped, pebble beach; You can get there only by sea, because from all sides it is surrounded by high, almost sheer cliffs. It is located in the area of the town of Krekavitsa, about 5 km from the sea from Budva.

For lovers of civilized wildlife on the Grbal peninsula there is Platamun beach, another name is Ploče. The rocky coast, the original landscape, exotic cacti and agaves - but at the same time there are sun loungers and umbrellas, changing rooms, showers, a toilet, rescue service, parking and even catering facilities.

Another “civilized wild beach” of the Grbal Peninsula is Trsteno. This 200-meter beach is located on a peninsula in a narrow bay that extends far into the shore, so the place is protected from winds and high waves. The shore is fine sand, has a very gentle descend into the sea, ideal for families with children. Like on Platamun, there are sunbeds and umbrellas, changing rooms, showers, a toilet, a rescue service, a parking lot, and catering facilities.

Jaz Beach, located 2.5 km north of Budva, is one of the three largest beaches in Montenegro: its length is 1200 meters. This is a pebble beach, but with the entrance to the sea, pebbles give way to sand. Natural shade is provided by numerous Mediterranean vegetation. The beach is widely known outside Montenegro for various musical events organized here, although it is often possible to meet its mention as "Jazz Beach": this is also about Yaz.

Another Budva beach, which is awarded the prestigious Blue Flag from year to year, is Mogren. The beach and cape got its name from the Spanish navigator Mogrini, who was shipwrecked here and landed on this cape. In fact, there are two sandy beaches - Mogren-1 and Mogren-2: they are located on both sides of Cape Mogren and are connected by a tunnel. Sand covers the average size and the beaches themselves, and the entrance to the sea. The beaches can be accessed through a narrow path through the Avala hotel complex.

The beach under the very walls of Old Budva was called the Richard's Head (Ričardova glava), when Richard Widmark made the film “Long Pines” in 1963. This pebble beach is equipped with everything necessary and is one of the most visited on the Budva Riviera, and indeed in Montenegro. Between the Old Town and the city port, east of the city walls, there is a small 50-meter pebble beach of Pisana.

The central city beach of Budva is called Slovenska beach (Slovenska plaža): it extends from the city port to the Park Hotel. They began to swim here in 1920, and the Slovaks called it Slovensky in 1935. By the way, many translate the name of the beach as "Slavic" - this is wrong: correctly - "Slovak". The beach is equipped with everything you need. Coating is a combination of pebbles and sand. Behind it is the hotel complex of the same name with apartments, outbuildings, restaurants, cafes and landscaped parks with diverse Mediterranean vegetation.

The island of St. Nicholas (Sveti Nikola) is clearly visible from anywhere in the city's waterfront. There is less than a kilometer from Budva to it, and there are three well-appointed beaches with a total length of 850 m. In addition, if you seek solitude, on a rocky island, whose coastline is very indented, you can find small bays where no one will disturb you. You can get to the island only by water - by boat or yacht, which depart daily from all the beaches of Budva. The island is densely covered with vegetation, so it is a real pleasure to be here. Especially when you consider that there are cafes and bars, and a fish restaurant is especially popular, where guests are served freshly caught fish.

Near the walking path near the tunnel leading to Becici, there is a small sandy beach of Guvance (80 m). It is equipped with everything necessary, there is a cafe-bar.
The golden Becici beach, with a length of 1800 meters, is safe and convenient for relaxing, and the calm sea creates ideal opportunities for sports and walking among subtropical plants, as Becici is literally "buried" in greenery and flowers. Everything here is covered by a light fog of thoughtfulness, calmness. In the western part of the beach there is a beautiful area for water skiing, which is very popular among many vacationers. Every year, Becici hosts the international beach soccer tournament - Pro Beach Soccer. In 1935, the beach in Becici was declared the most beautiful and cleanest in the Mediterranean in Paris, after which vacationers from Germany and Czechoslovakia began to come to the Budva Riviera. To this day, Becici beach is marked with the Blue Flag from year to year, emphasizing its uniqueness.

There are two beaches in Rafailovici - Kamenovo and Rafailoviči itself. These are sandy and pebble beaches equipped with everything necessary.

One of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic coast is Queen's Beach, along which you can walk to St. Stephen's Island.

350 m long Pržno beach is located between Pržno and Cape Milocer. The coast where the beach is located is famous for its olive groves.

Clear water and a gorgeous sandy Royal Beach, where sun loungers stand in one line 15 meters from each other, and there are almost no people. The secret is simple - a visit will cost you a tidy sum, and you will have to pay separately for parking in the park.

Miločer Beach, about 400 meters long, is located just below the former summer resort of the royal family Karageorgievich. It was built in 1934 and is separated from the highway by a wall with two gates - in Pržno and in Sveti Stefan.

Sveti Stefan is, of course, a beach of the same name. The length of the beach is 1170 m, it consists of two parts (on both sides of the isthmus) and is characterized by reddish sand. Near the beach there are cafes, restaurants, a diving club and a hotel. Before reaching the city-hotel, from Budva you can get to the small sandy beach Golubinj, where there is its own equipped marina and even a cafe. And right after the island begins a complex of seven small beaches for every taste, common name Crvena Glavica. The beaches are really very different - there are rocky ones, there are sandy ones, and their total length is about 500 m. Sand and stones have a reddish hue, hence, apparently, “red”. Behind the beach there is a forest and rocks, on the side there is a view of Sveti Stefan.

You can simply relax on one of the four beaches of Petrovac. Actually, the small sandy beach of Perazic Do (Peraziča Do) is located before reaching Petrovac - in the area of the Rezhevichi monastery, directly under the main road. There is a marina for boats and small boats, and a foot road leads to Petrovac. The beach of Petrovac with reddish sand covers 600 m of the coast. The beach has an extensive infrastructure, including all kinds of souvenir shops, and is one of the most popular in Montenegro. Lučice beach is located 500 m south of Petrovac and represents the coastline of a small bay about 200 m long. The coast and bottom are sandy, the beach is surrounded by pine trees and cypresses. The beach is fully equipped: there is a cafe-bar, and parking, and all the necessary equipment.

The largest beach on the Budva Riviera is called Buljarica. Its length is 2250 m, and it is located a kilometer from Petrovac in the direction of Bar. Part of the beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, there is a restaurant and a cafe-bar.

Located in the central part of the Montenegrin coast, which is called Budva Riviera. Bright, noisy and colorful. Resort town. His whole life is centered around numerous tourists. Tourists leave - the city falls asleep. To wake up again in the spring, wipe the windows of restaurants, open the doors of souvenir shops, scream with peppy disco music.

I must say, the locals are trying their best. There is everything for a fun and active holiday: discos, restaurants, casinos, sports fields, tennis courts ... In almost every hotel and every villa you can rent everything you need for fishing and diving.

But nature tried even harder: in July, the sun over Budva shines an average of 332 hours and this the city is considered the sunniest not only on the Adriatic, but throughout Europe.

A beaches on the Budva Riviera, do not be afraid of the word, legendary. The most famous are Slovenian beach and Mogren beach, which won the “Blue Flag” of UNESCO. And the biggest is Jaz Beach, one of the three largest beaches on the Montenegrin coast. Its length is 1200 m, it is located 2.5 km north of Budva. All beaches are sandy, very clean and well maintained. Water is the purest. The nature around is magnificent, as in all of Montenegro.

For families with small children Budva in Montenegro - not the right place. The noise and fun do not stop here even at night. If it is important for you to stay in silence from time to time, it is better to settle in some distance from the city.

Children will surely be delighted with the small train that travels from the Old Town along the entire coast.

In the summer in Budva a lot of people and a lot of events.

In the Old Town, the music festival "Song of Mediterana" (in late June), which brings together the best Serbian, Montenegrin and European performers of classical music, is taking place. Actors replace musicians - from mid-July to late August festival "Grad Theater". In July, poets arrive in Budva and read their works directly on the main square.

Like all cities of Montenegro, Budva can not boast of a large territory. Therefore, the only problem may be that in a few days you will thoroughly explore all local attractions, buy all the souvenirs, look at all the restaurants and get a little bored.

However, the problem is small. Very close to Budva are resorts such as Becici, Milocer and the island-hotel Sveti Stefan. Moreover, excursion program in Montenegro very saturated. A small tour desk, as a rule, is in every hotel and even in every small villa (in the villas the hosts themselves usually act as a guide). You can go on a boat trip, go for a few days to the mountains, go on an excursion to Cetinje, the historical capital of Montenegro, or visit one of the many monasteries. There are many of them in the city and its environs - Podostrog, Rezhevichi, Stanevichi, Gradisti.

Old Town in Budva, Montenegro

The first mention of Budva as a settlement of Butou dates back to the 5th century BC. e. However, relatively recently it became known that Budva much older. During the construction, one of the hotels discovered the remains of the ancient Greek and Roman necropolises, the most ancient fragments of which, apparently, date back to the middle of the 1st millennium BC. e.

Now Old city in Budva in Montenegro Surrounded by the fortress wall of the 15th century, it is the historical center of the resort. After the 1979 earthquake, the city was completely rebuilt. It is charming, like all old cities. Charming, but no more. For some reason, unlike the old city in Kotor, it seems like a toy. And to the mysterious and slightly gloomy atmosphere of the Old Bar, oh how far it is.

But walking along the narrow winding streets, of course, is nice. In almost every house there is either a shop or a restaurant. There are many museums with unique expositions in the Old Town, where the works of artists from around the world, the Church of the Virgin Mary, built in the 9th century, and ancient monasteries are exhibited. If you pay a few euros, you can get to the central (museum) part, where you can visit the library and take gorgeous pictures of all of Budva from the ancient wall.

Old Budva. Ancient and modern

In Montenegro, it is a medieval fortified city. Narrow streets with paved stone pavements, squares with monuments, houses with red tiled roofs, which are built of hewn stone and decorated with bas-reliefs - it seems to everyone who first gets into this space that he was in a medieval fairy tale.

The old city is located on a small island, but the embankment made it a peninsula. There are five aisles, two of them with a gate. In ancient times, the gates were closed at night and carefully guarded. Today at Old city anyone can get it.

In the 15th century, the Venetians built a wall with loopholes 2 meters thick in order to defend themselves against the Turks. Here and there on the wall there are images of winged lions, a symbol of the Venetian empire. This wall combines two fortresses - the large Citadel, which defended the city from the south and Fort Mogren, which repelled attacks from the west. Since ancient times, several watchtowers have remained on the wall.

Citadel Fortress - This is the largest historical monument in the Old Town. The construction of the fortress began in the 1940s. Later, the Venetians, who ruled in Budva in the XV-XVIII centuries, rebuilt the fortifications, preserving the eastern and northern walls. What the Citadel today is was only the first line of fortifications. The second line of fortifications was deeper, but only one meter high foundation was preserved from it.

In the XX century, the Citadel was reconstructed using ancient stone processing technologies. The first two floors of the old fortress are occupied by open terraces, restaurants and bars. On the third floor of the fortress is a small maritime museum, which displays models of ships. There is also a stage where theater performances are organized during the most famous on the Adriatic theater festival Budva-TheCityTheater. This festival is held every year from July 1 to August 20. Near the stage are an antique store, part of the collection of the Archaeological Museum, a unique library.

Above Budva, on a cape between the beaches of Mogren and Jaz, is an old Austrian fortress. It was built in 1860, during the Austro-Hungarian rule. The fortress was a powerful military fortification that protected the city from the west. It shoots well from it and budva bay, and the Jaz beach area. During the years of the first and second world wars it was used in military operations.

Each village of the Budva Riviera in Montenegro has its own face: resort life is always in full swing in Budva, the cities of Becici and Rafailovici are quieter, but also with good infrastructure and beautiful beaches, cozy Petrovac and Przhno are chosen by tourists with children, couples and older people . A special position near the island-hotel of St. Stephen, which has a unique medieval flavor.

Guests of the Budva Riviera in Montenegro have access to a variety of housing options: from luxury five-star hotels on the first coastline to houses of local residents located a few kilometers from the sea. The tourist infrastructure is well developed throughout the Riviera: there is no shortage of cafes, restaurants and shops. Fish and seafood dishes are especially popular here, and as souvenirs - prosciutto (smoked pork), cheeses, olive oil, local wine.

Beaches

The beaches of the Budva Riviera are mostly pebble (Slavic and Mogren in Budva, the beaches of St. Stephen and Petrovac), but there are also sandy (the beach in Becici and Rafailovici) and rocky (Ploce beach 10 km from Budva). Advantages of the beaches of the Budva Riviera: very clear sea, mostly gently sloping entry into the water, picturesque nature around and beautiful views, the presence of cafes and shops nearby. Almost all the beaches of the Riviera are equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds, changing rooms and showers work.

Entertainment and outdoor activities

Of the water activities on the Budva Riviera, wakeboarding and paragliding, catamaran and banana rides, diving, rafting, boat trips are especially popular. Fans of outdoor activities, but on land, can take excursions to the natural reserves and canyons of the Riviera, and those who want to learn more about the history and culture of Montenegro - from monasteries and castles. You can travel around the coast of the Budva Riviera yourself by renting a car. Every night in Budva, nightlife boils, theater festivals, concerts and other cultural events take place.
