Manors of Istra. Formation of the estate complex

Manor house

Directions from Moscow: new route Moscow - Riga M9 to the intersection with the A107 ring, from the intersection of another 8 km to a small roundabout, turn right, towards Istra, via Kryuchkovo. For Kryuchkovo, the next settlement of the village. Pioneer, in which right on the road is the former estate Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo.

The village of Rubtsovo, in the Sourozh camp, at the beginning of its existence belonged to the Yabedins. From 1616 to the end of the 70s. XVIII century the estate was in the possession of the Nashchokins.

In the first decade of the 18th century, there existed: the estate of the estate, stables, stockyard, economy of the miller and five peasants.

In 1745, through the efforts of N.M. Nashchokin put stone church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin - an interesting monument of Baroque. The surviving ancient core of the temple has a beautiful petal plan, on the sides of which there are stairs of a smooth outline. Above the crucifer of the base rises a luminous octahedron, completed by a dome with a spherical head.

The long four-pillar refectory with a two-story bell tower above the narthex, called the Western side chapel in PAMO, adjoined the Intercession Church in the 1770s. As a result of alterations of the 19th century, the building received an exterior treatment of the late classicism style.

Park Pokrovsky-Rubtsov is the same age as the church. The temple and a small part of the regular park are all that survived from the period of the highest prosperity of the estate of the late XVIII century.

After the Nashchokins, the estate passed to the Golokhvastovs. Just Dmitry Pavlovich Golokhvastov (1796-1849), who held the post of assistant trustee of the Moscow school district, reconstructed his estate in accordance with the canons of classicism. The main house was moved to a new place. In the neighborhood with it, an outbuilding was erected, under Morozov merged with the master's house into a single building. The vast park has been reorganized.

Golokhvastov’s personality was remarkable for his only passion - in his Pokrovsky he bred excellent horses. Speeds of trotter breeds were specially prescribed from Holland. They crossed horses of the Oryol blood, and here Mr. Golokhvastov achieved amazing results. A selfless love of horses cost the trustee of the MOU half a million rubles in banknotes, and the foundation and maintenance of the Pokrovsky stud farm cost exactly that.

His son, Pavel Dmitrievich, who inherited the estate after the death of a parent, was a historian, philologist and publicist.

In 1893-1898 Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo put up for auction, in the late 1890s. it was acquired by the millionaire Savva Timofeevich Morozov.

The Istra land describes the estate Tatyana Pavlovna Morozova, great-granddaughter of Savva Timofeevich gave: “The wife of Savva Timofeevich Zinaida Grigoryevna became the owner of the old estate. From now on, Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo is the favorite vacation spot of the Morozov family. Outstanding architect Fedor Osipovich Shekhtel was invited to restore the manor house. At the request of the owners, he preserved the architectural appearance of the estate with an English landscape park. A two-story mansion with a mezzanine was restored, the main facade of which was decorated with a four-column portico of the Corinthian order. The building has an enfilade layout. For the interior of the house, Shekhtel created sketches of furniture, fabrics, lamps. Stained-glass windows in the living room were made by artist Mikhail Alexandrovich Vrubel. Savva Timofeevich also preserved the traditions of the old master: a horse yard was created at the estate, where thoroughbred horses and hunting dogs were bred. One of Morozov’s horses, Nyad, won the Moscow horse race. “Deer Island” appeared on the pond with a sculpture of deer and a drawbridge. An estate was built at the estate. At the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. the whole color of Moscow visited Pokrovsky-Rubtsov - famous artists II. Levitan, V.A. Serov, M.A. Vrubel, A.M. Vasnetsov, A.M. Vasnetsov, professor at Moscow University - historian and friend Morozov V.O. Klyuchevsky, G.F. Karpov, doctors A.A. Ostroumov, V.F. Snegirev et al. On the affairs of the Art Theater, K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. A.P. came here Chekhov with O.L. Knipper-Chekhova. Artists of the Moscow Art Theater and actress of the Maly Theater G.N. Fedotova. Sang here F.I. Chaliapin, a regular guest of the Morozovs. "

For some time N. Bauman was hiding in the estate, where he worked as a veterinarian in a horse yard.

The estate was damaged during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, but was not destroyed by the retreating enemy. In the 1950s it was completely restored, and since 1953 a sanatorium has been located here. In the post-perestroika period, the estate, without a permanent owner, gradually deteriorated and collapsed. The 1999 fire that occurred in the right wing of the master’s house can lead to the death of the entire structure if no measures are taken to save it.

The picture of the estate Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo is now sad. The empty house with the noble Corinthian and Ionic porticoes installed around the entire perimeter of the building is disfigured by flame; a pond that has lost graceful deer and a bridge is covered in muddy mud; farm buildings are depersonalized, and part of them are turned into ruins; the old park is trampled and littered ... A despondent, desolate desolation reigns everywhere ...

Pokrovsky temple withstood both the onslaught of revolutionary whirlwinds and fascist shelling. It has never been closed; it is still valid today. A monument to the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War was erected on the temple territory.

On the opposite bank of the Malaya Istra River Z.G. Morozova allocated a plot of land for the construction of a tuberculosis sanatorium (now the sanatorium "Istra"). The mansion was built by order of G.A. Korotaeva in 1911-1913 architect I.I. Rerberg. The building, combining a two-story house with side wings and a house (now decapitated) church, is a good example of a neo-empire.

The Ognikovo-Pokrovskoye estate first became known at the beginning of the 18th century, then it was the estate of A.S. Naryshkina (Chaplina), after which it belonged to M.N. Chaplin, major general of the engineering troops, later to G.F. Potemkin and his family and other owners. Today on the estate there is a park hotel called "Ognikovo-Pokrovskoye", only the Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin is available for tourists to visit.

Unfortunately, numerous manor buildings have not reached our days. However, the brick temple, erected by the landowner M.I. Lobanova-Rostovskaya at the beginning of the XIX century, can be seen today. The temple belongs to the “octagon on four” type, which was popular in Russia in those years; later, the southern aisle was added to the church.

A little away from the temple is a regular-type terrace park with a spacious pond and deciduous trees.

Manor Troitskoye

Today in the Troitskoye estate you can see a picturesque ensemble of two churches - the Trinity Church, made of wood in 1675 and dedicated to Sergius of Radonezh, and the Trinity Stone Church. At one time, the estate belonged to representatives of the ancient Russian noble family of the Boborykins.

It is interesting that in former times the estate was called Bobyrevo, and also - a churchyard. In confirmation of this, today you can see a widespread cemetery with majestic tombstones of past centuries.

Despite the official figures, the wooden church dates back to the beginning of the 18th century. In 1830, a foundation of white stone was laid under it, the window openings expanded, updated porches appeared at the entrances, the church itself was neatly trimmed with tesa.

The stone temple was erected according to the project of M.N. Litvinov, it is called the Trinity of the Life-Giving, its architecture combines the features of classicism and the neo-Russian (or psvedorussian) style.

Manor of Polevshino

Since the 17th century, the Polevshino estate belonged to the Boyars of the Polevs, then it passed into the possession of the noble family of the Balk-Polevs along a related line. The estate often changed its owners - it belonged to both the Saltykovs and the nephews of the millionaire S.T. Morozov - Karpov.

According to the description of Archimandrite Leonid from the end of the 19th century, in those days the estate consisted of a manor's wooden house, outbuildings, a churchyard, a two-story church with a tent bell tower, a garden and a linden alley.

The Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, built at the end of the 17th century, the remains of the park that lost its splendor and a small pond, has survived to our days. In addition, the tomb of the Boyars of the Field is also located here, however, all these attractions are in poor condition.

Manor Pavlovskaya Sloboda

Pavlovskaya Sloboda used to be the village of Pavlovsky, the estate received its double name in 1864. The first mention of this settlement dates back to 1504, and the first owner of it in the boundary letter is Yakov Morozov. By 1730, the patrimony became a palace.

The Annunciation Church, which was built in 1661-1662, has survived to our days. A covered passage connected the temple with the mansions in which the boyar Boris Morozov lived. Also, the estate included outbuildings, a wide economic complex, massive hewn gates, as well as fruit orchards.

The Annunciation Church consists of a pillarless four, and there is also a refectory. In the decoration of the temple - kokoshniki and platbands. In the XIX century, a three-tier bell tower was erected here, which has not survived to this day.

It is interesting that the direct road connected Pavlovskoye with Moscow, it was along it that Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich so loved to go on a pilgrimage. In addition, the mansions of Tsarina Natalia Kirillovna were located here.

In post-revolutionary times, the estate experienced difficult times, but in the 50s the production located in the church was taken out of there.

Manor Ivanovo

The Ivanovskoe-Kozlovskoye estate was founded at the beginning of the 18th century, initially it belonged to the princes Gagarin, after which its owners were repeatedly replaced. The last owners were the Kozlovsky princes.

Today, tourists can see here a two-story stone house, consisting of two parts and is an example of Baroque architecture. Inside the building, the remains of furniture of past years are preserved.

It is interesting that the Nudol River, which once flowed here, is today a reservoir with beautiful views. The manor stands in the middle of a huge park of the English type, which today is in disrepair. In Soviet times, a wooden pediment, a belvedere tower and balconies were added to the house, which subsequently disappeared without a trace.

In the post-revolutionary time, a school was organized in Ivanovo, first for the deaf and dumb, then for the mentally retarded children. Later, the estate was used as a health resort.

Yurkino Manor

Yurkino Manor today is a Christmas church, erected at the beginning of the 16th century on the picturesque coast of Istra, as well as an elegant bell tower and the remains of a once-dense flowering park.

The estate has been known since the XVII-XVIII centuries, it was owned by: Prince M.G. Romodanovsky, his daughter N.M. Saltykova, the nobles Veliaminov-Zernov, Prince V.S. Dolgorukov and others. Since the mid-18th century, the estate belonged to N.P. Obolensky, a noble prince. Under him, a three-tier bell tower was added to the church and a refectory was erected. Fortunately, the bell tower has survived to the present day, but the refectory was dismantled.

Under the son of the Pskov landowner ND Filosofov, the manor and farm buildings were destroyed.

It should be noted that the Yurkov church became a role model for many masters of the 16th century: for example, similar buildings with walls completed with trifols are found today in Kolomna and Rostov the Great.

Manor Pokrovskoye - Rubtsovo

The Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo estate is an ancient estate of representatives of the noble family of the Nashchokins, which they owned since 1616. A boyar’s courtyard was erected here, in the middle of the 18th century - the stone Church of the Intercession, which is a rare example of baroque architecture for the Moscow Region, which was rebuilt in the tradition of classicism years later. Today, tourists are open to the church and the courtyard.

Subsequently, the building was owned by the nobles of the Golokhvastov and the manufacturers Morozov. The heyday of the estate fell on the XVIII century, it was at this time that an amazing park-architectural ensemble of stone buildings was created here. Only a church and a park have survived to this day.

The surviving manor house is a two-story house with a mezzanine. After merging with the outbuilding, the house of the gentlemen became a typical elongated building of the palace plan.

Significantly damaged after the Great Patriotic War, in the 1950s the estate was almost completely restored. Currently, the manor house is privately owned.

The estate has been restored, access to its territory is closed. A church and a farm are available for visiting

In Pokrovsky-Rubtsov there is almost no atmosphere of antiquity, although the estate is a very respectable age. The manor was divided in two by a narrow strip of the asphalt highway, along which regular buses run to Istra, heavy trucks rumble monotonously, with difficulty climbing onto the mountain, cars swiftly rush through ... Dusty and vain. Centuries-old larch and elm, and then a slender columned portico of the landowner’s house, clutch at the metal openwork of the fence, sometimes bent and crippled.
On the other side of the road are the remains of the courtyard and the Intercession Church, as well as the refectory and the bell tower, with a tetraconch.

Estate plan

From 1616 to the end of the 1770s Rubtsovo, which is on the Istritsa River, is the patrimony of the Nashchokins, who are of their kind from the tveritch Dmitry, nicknamed Naschoka. His descendant, Nikolai Mikhailovich, a soldier of the Semenovsky regiment, erected a stone-tier temple of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos on the estate (1745). This interesting monument of the Baroque era at the beginning of the XIX century. received the features of late classicism. The surviving core with a beautifully defined petal plan was completed by a light octahedron under the dome. The stairs of the smooth outline rose to the southern and northern portals, echoing the contour of the building with soft, flowing lines.
Under the following owners, the Golokhvastovs, the temple and the entire architectural complex were again redone. The old park, founded by the Nashchokins in the 18th century, is a redevelopment.
The personality of Dmitry Pavlovich Golokhvastov (1796–1849), who owned Pokrovsky-Rubtsov at that time (1796–1849), was vividly described by A.I. Herzen, who was his cousin. Golokhvastov was well educated, knew four foreign languages, translated into French in the prose “Rossiadu” by Cheraskov, published in the Moskvityanin and editions of the Society of History and Antiquities of Russia at Moscow University. Since 1840, he was appointed assistant trustee of the Moscow school district, and then his trustee. “Dmitry Pavlovich had all the advantages that the highest authorities are looking for in a man of our century, without the drawbacks for which he persecutes him: education, a good surname, wealth, agronomy and not only the absence of“ stupid ideas ”, but in general all kinds of incidents in of life. Golokhvastov didn’t have a single love affair, not a single duel, didn’t play cards at all, never drank drunk, but often went to Sundays on Sundays ... To this must be added the workshop with French, rounded manners and one passion, passion completely innocent, - to the horses. ” However, in the affairs of the university, Golokhvastov proved himself to be a cold formalist, and earned the students' general hatred.

Shortly before the October Revolution of 1917, the estate belonged to Z.G. Morozova, the wife of an entrepreneur, public figure and philanthropist S. T. Morozov and their son - T. S. Morozov.
The compact building of the manor house (first third of the 19th century) with a mezzanine over a weakly protruding risalite was repeatedly rebuilt. In the time of the Morozovs, the house was combined with a separate outbuilding and conservatory, along the longitudinal facades they arranged spacious open terraces. F.O. Shekhtel, complementing the architecture of the house with more magnificent stucco molding. After World War II, the architect I.V. took part in the restoration work. Zholtovsky, who also contributed to shaping the appearance of the building.
In Pokrovsky was located first Rest House. A.P. Chekhov, then the Central Committee of the USSR trade unions. In 1999, the northern wing of the main building was damaged by a fire, and the house was empty, although for some time a grocery store functioned at its end facing the road.
Smooth paths and lawns of the regular garden are densely covered with real grass of oblivion. On the lawns, weedy cereals interspersed with snow-white dream umbrellas and soft blue blotches of bells. In the regular part of the garden there are collapsed trees felled by the wind. In autumn, in a sleepy slumber, under monotonous gusts of wind, they strew trees with bronze, quietly rustling foliage onto still-green forbs, untouched by autumn; on a dark, as if black mirror, muddy surface of the water of a manor pond; to the island that used to be called Deer. But on the island there is no longer a sculpture of a deer and a bridge connecting the coast, only young shrubs and birches have taken root on this piece of land. The ancient park falls with a wide green plume to the Malaya Istritsa River, preserving the alley grid and rare species of trees for the Moscow Region - introducers. Desolation firmly and permanently reigned in Rubtsov.

The village of Rubtsono, on the Istra River, in 1585 was a village located in the Moscow district, the Sourozh camp, in the patrimony of Alexei Fedorov Yabedin. According to the scribe books 7131 and 7132 (1623 - 1624). it means: “behind Danil Fedorov and Nikifor Nikitin Nashchokins in the patrimony, according to the bill of sale 124 and 128 (1616 and 1620). Rubtsovo village, and Ulyankovo \u200b\u200bidentity, on the Istra River, and in it the estate court, business people live. In 1646, Rubtsovo was a village man. Upon the death of Nikifor Nashchokin, it went to his son Ivan, and from him passed to his children: Mikhail, Andrey, Nikita and Gregory. In 1735, Nikita Eve. Nashchokin, after the death of his brothers, shared an immovable estate located in different counties with his nephews Nikolai, Boris and Anna Mikhailov Nashchokins, who got the village of Rubtsovo near Moscow.
From the census books it can be seen that in 1646 there were 2 peasant yards in the village of Rubtsovo, 4 of them were people., In 1678 - the yard of the prikashchik, 2 dv. peasant, in them 14 people. and a backyard courtyard with 5 people., and in 1705 - courtyards: estate, livestock and stables, there are 10 people., 5 houses. cr., in them 18 people. and the miller’s yard, there are 8 people in it.

Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo  not among the known estates of the Moscow Region, although there were A.I. Herzen and A.P. Chekhov, and at one time the estate belonged to the famous patron-revolutionary Savva Morozovwho invited here to decorate the interiors of F.O.Shekhtel himself. Yes and located Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo  very picturesque - on the elevated right bank of Malaya Istra.

The history of the estate

In ancient times, these places were the estate of the Nashchokins (from 1616 to the end of the 1770s), then the estate passed to the Golokhvastov family. With them manor  reached its peak: in the second half of the XVIII - the first half of the XIX century, an architectural and park ensemble with a church, the main house, outbuildings, office buildings formed here. From the 18th century, a regular park and church building remained. In the first half of the XIX century Dmitry Pavlovich Golokhvastov  rebuilds the estate in the style of late classicism. In a new place, a more modest house with an outbuilding in empire forms is being erected, a landscape park appears on the coastal slope of Istra, in general, the estate becomes more chamber. In the summer of 1829, here, to his cousin D.P. Golokhvastov, A.I. Herzen came to stay with his father. In Pokrovsky-Rubtsov, with the assistance of Dmitry Pavlovich, the question of Herzen's admission to the university was resolved, which his father strongly opposed.

After the Golokhvastovs the estate acquires (1890s). The repair and reconstruction of the estate begins. The main house is combined with the outbuilding, the exterior decoration becomes richer. And inside, interior decoration is of great importance, for which a family friend, a talented architect F.O.Shekhtel is invited. Later, according to the project of I.V. Zholtovsky, the ends of the building were decorated with porticoes with verandas. In 1903, A.P. Chekhov came here to visit Zinaida Grigorievna Morozova, the wife of the estate owner. Zinaida Grigorievna was an outstanding woman, she was interested in theater, literature, art, philosophy. Her literary salon in Moscow was very famous. She and in Pokrovsky-Rubtsov there were many celebrities: V.O. Klyuchevsky, V.I. Kachalov, K.S. Stanislavsky and others.

After the tragic death of Savva Timofeevich, Z.G. Morozova left Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo to her eldest son Timofey (the Morozovs had four children), and bought a new Gorki estate (known to us by the Gorki Leninsky), where F.O.Shekhtel was again building for her. Last owner Pokrovsky-RubtsovTimofei Savvich, graduated from his father, a mathematics faculty of Moscow University, was a member of the board of trustees at the Moscow Old Believer Institute, was a member of the council of the Rogozhsky cemetery community, and built a school with him. T.S. Morozov had three sons, but the revolution prevented them from inheriting the estate. In 1941, Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo was badly damaged by hostilities, but in the 1950s the buildings were restored. There was a rest house, a kindergarten, a culture house with a cinema, a dormitory ... However, the 1999 fire brought the house to desolation, destroying part of the building.

Of the other buildings, the estate was best preserved Church of the Intercession  1745, built during the Nashchokins. The two-story utility wing of the 19th - early 20th century after the fire is in ruined condition. Partially preserved stables and manege, disfigured by perestroika, are located on the territory of something machine and tractor, behind a blank fence. At that time, N.E. Bauman worked as a veterinarian in this horse yard, whom S.T. Morozov hid in his estate from police surveillance. In Pokrovsky-Rubtsov, a regular, mostly lime park with a rectangular grid of alleys is still intact. True, the trees here are very old, part of them perishes, forming impenetrable blockages. In the center of the regular park there is a dug pond with an island where there was once a gazebo.

Locals still take water from this pond. The landscape part of the park was completely wild and overgrown, the river from the main house is almost invisible. Still worth a visit Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo, take a walk in the old park, explore the still empty house ...

Formation of a manor complex

The manor complex was formed in two stages. The estate reached its peak in the 18th century, when an architectural and park ensemble with stone buildings was created. From this period only the aforementioned church and park have survived.

In the first half of the XIX century. estate Pokrovskoye - Rubtsovo  It was rebuilt in the style of late classicism. Changed the location of the house, built together with a wing in modest empire forms, the existing park was complemented by a landscape. Under Morozov, the house and the outbuilding were merged into a single building.

Manor house

The main house has been rebuilt several times. The original foundation of the building is a small two-story building with a mezzanine symmetrical about its own axis. Although the building dates from no earlier than the 1830s, according to the internal enfilade layout, it gravitated to an earlier time.

The manor house that has reached us is a two-story house with a mezzanine. Its central part is distinguished by a pilaster portico from the side of the park and columned Corinthian from the side of the courtyard, to which there are open verandas. The decor of the building is discreet.

Church of the Intercession

The oldest building of the estate - Church of the Intercession  - was built in 1745 at the expense of N.M. Nashchokin. The western aisle and a two-tier bell tower above it were added in the late 1770s. The remnants of the shoulder blades and krepovka in the eaves of the first tier testify to the initial baroque decoration of the temple. In the nineteenth century, the building was finished in the style of late classicism. The temple is active, inside there is a four-tier iconostasis of stained oak at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries.

Manor Park

The old regular park has been preserved. An alley leads from the dug pond to the house. You can still walk along the alleys, although part of the trees fall, forming blockages.

Old trees in the park are dying, the manor itself is also dying. All in the past...

The last owners of the estate

Last owners estates of Pokrovsky-Rubtsov  in the 1890s became the Morozov family. Savva Timofeevich Morozov (1862 - 1905) - an entrepreneur, public figure, and the philanthropist, of course, could not refuse transformations in his estate. Apparently he got an innovative idea about the merger of the house and the outbuilding into a palace-type building.

Pokrovskoe famous for its stables, it contained the famous Oryol trotters. For some time N. Bauman was hiding in the estate, where he worked as a veterinarian in a horse yard. After the suicide of Morozov, right up to the revolution, his wife, Zinaida Grigoryevna, owned Pokrovsky.

War time

During the war, the estate was badly damaged, but in the 1950s. was almost completely restored. Now the view of the estate is more reminiscent of the post-war, the complex is in complete desolation, the park is wild. One wing of the manor house is occupied by a store, the other wing, disfigured by the 1999 fire, is inevitably destroyed. The same can be said of the rest of the buildings, they live their lives in neglect, but the administration holiday homes Pokrovskoye  still attracts vacationers with picturesque views of the old manor, and does nothing to revive it!
