My husband, children and I vacationed at the Kalimera Club hotel for the second time. The first trip there was in June 2013. We have something to compare with, and believe me, we have been to many places, the price and quality are very inherent in this hotel and there is nothing to complain about. But, perhaps, I wanted more free sun loungers by the pool, otherwise there are not enough of them for such a number of everyone. And so, we had a luxurious room, a beautiful and cozy balcony. The choice of food is sufficient for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Indeed, if you want to relax without shouting and fuss, then come and you won’t regret it. The hotel is aimed at adults and children. A huge area where you can walk, several animation areas in neighboring hotels, a lot of greenery. If you are relaxing in this hotel, then all the entertainment and restaurants with the beaches of neighboring hotels are available to you, so you will definitely not be bored. Well, the sea is as always at its best.

We vacationed in this hotel last fall. We were pleased with the holiday and the hotel itself. We took a room on the second floor, overlooking the sea. The room is small, the bathroom has a shower and a bath, which is very convenient. Also, the room has a huge, soft double bed. There is a large mirror, bathrobes, hairdryer, minibar and free safe. I was pleased with the presence of Russian channels. Although we only watched it before bed. The cleaning of the room left an overall good impression. The hotel area is average, but we didn’t expect to see much. But it is well-maintained and skillfully equipped for relaxation. There is a large swimming pool with sun loungers and umbrellas. The beach is sandy, the entrance is smooth and without stones. Swimmed, sunbathed, enjoyed life!

We rested in 2015, at the end of September. The weather pleased us. Very comfortable. The hotel is small, clean and cozy. The food is excellent, there are always free tables, dishes are cleared on time. The range of dishes is constantly changing. The sea is clean, there are a lot of fish, you can feed them and swim with a mask. Beautiful view up the mountain behind the hotel. Large assortment of alcoholic drinks: Metaxa, champagne, beer and cocktails. Nice animation. They constantly invite me to events. Those who have small children keep them busy. It is very convenient that there is a children's pool on the beach. Of the minuses is long road from the airport 2-2.5 hours. Our hotel was the last one and the air conditioning system was poorly functioning. It was hot in the room, although the side was not sunny

Relax in the Sunshine Annex.
Rested for two weeks as a family with two children this hotel. We returned yesterday, 08/14/2014. We chose a hotel urgently (there were no visas) a little over two weeks before departure, since everything was very foggy with the vacation. There wasn't much to choose from for price-quality reasons. The choice for Sunshine fell due to the relatively low price for a 5. And the reviews were mostly positive. Tour operator Pegasus, hotel also Pegasovsky, flew by Nordwinds (what a company!). I studied the reviews of the hotel and, in principle, was ready for anything. Travel experience is considerable, there is something to compare with. The stay at this hotel left a double impression. But I’ll say right away: Sunshine is a four, and Annex is a three without a plus.
1. Road. The hotel is 130 km from Heraklion Airport. The bus ride takes about 2.5 hours + stops along the way to other hotels, i.e. about three hours. Since our daughter gets sick in transport, we decided to shorten the travel time and take a taxi (110 euros) - a comfortable Mercedes with air conditioning and in 1.5 hours (with a stop) we reached the hotel.
2. Hotel accommodation. They took the Annex hull, the main hull was in stock until the end of August. Sunshine itself is located on a slight hill, but up to the Annex building (this is a separate hotel with its own infrastructure, despite what is considered one hotel!) rise, rise and rise again! You have to cross the road through an underground passage, climb first one hill, and then another, a concrete hill, where there is not a shadow! Yes, my husband and I also reasoned, like, it’s okay, we won’t gain kilograms, but gentlemen - it’s August, it’s scorching hot, at night it’s +28, and during the day in the sun it’s still +40, the kids did a great job withstanding the climbs! The hills are still okay, and it’s good to walk in the evening, but during the day...! There was only enough for us to swim in the sea once a day, after which we splashed in the pool.
Yes, there was a transfer to the main building, a minibus for 9 people. However, we often had to wait for it, since the hotel used the same minibus for other purposes - to take, for example, towels, etc., we didn’t want to wait 20-30 minutes. So in two weeks we used it 4 times. In general, from the room (to which you also had to climb the stairs (Annex rooms are located in several lines, each on a hill)), the distance to the sea is about 800 m, but what: two slides, transition and the territory of Sunshine itself. If this doesn’t bother you, then by and large, this is the biggest disadvantage of the hotel. The hotel area is well-groomed, I would not call the Annex green, but the hotel is neat. The area near Sunshine itself is greener. On the territory of the Annex there is a volleyball court, another field, an abandoned cafe, which is a shame that the territory is not used to its fullest during the season, a small children's playground, air hockey, 1 swimming pool with a children's section, without slides. And in Sunshine there are three swimming pools, one of them for children, with small slides, the second with two slides, mini golf, chess, kids club with an area of bars, souvenir shops, a fur coat shop (I don’t recommend purchasing), etc.

3. We didn’t check in right away, we arrived at about 9.50, we checked in at 01:30, during which time we had breakfast and lunch. We were given a family room, two-room, as it should be. We tried to hand a bill to the Russian-speaking administrator at the reception, so that at least we could be accommodated in the main Annex building, opposite the pool, but received a categorical refusal, reasoned by the complete occupancy of the hotel. In general, I would like to note here that the staff, especially in the Annex, are friendly, from administrators to maintenance staff. It seemed like there were free rooms, but they were located two more lines above our room. During the holiday, we tried to move to Sunshine for an additional payment, but it was useless, even for an additional payment (the additional payment is 30-40 euros per day, which would be cheaper than if you take a ticket at the main hotel, the difference is 140 and 190 euros per room per day) Room simple, with two balconies, no frills, with an ordinary TV, one large double bed in one room, two separate beds in the other. The refrigerator was not working, but was replaced in the evening. The air conditioner was noisy, but it worked, although it broke after two days. After two calls, the repairman repaired it, although the noise remained. You can’t really open the balconies, the stuffiness is terrible, and there are flies. The room was cleaned every day, linen was changed 2 times in 2 weeks, cleaning consisted of making the beds, sweeping was extremely rare, so sometimes we just hung up a “Do not disturb” sign. If you are going to travel with kids, download more cartoons to your tablet, the TV more or less shows 23 channels, of which only 2 are Russian, and one can only be watched, the sound is very interference. Mostly news, there are no children's cartoons or programs (unlike German TV channels, as many as 2 with cartoons!). And stock up drinking water in shops nearby. Upon arrival, one small bottle of water will be waiting for you and that’s it, that’s where the freebie ends. There are coolers in the dining room, and bottled water cannot be purchased in the hotel itself.
5. Nutrition. Regular All. Everything is without any frills, without much variety, but in general everything is good. For lunch you could come to the Sunshine building. Not to say that the food there would be radically different from the Annex. What I really liked is that in the Annex there are no cooks with stoves, braziers in the common dining room, and what I really didn’t like was the lack of air conditioning in the dining room (unlike the Sunshine restaurant itself), despite the fact that you can’t eat outside during the day, it’s very stuffy and hot and FLIES, MANY, MANY FLIES, clinging to the plates of food! Breakfast 7:00-10:00 - two types of porridge (rice and semolina, always), three types of yoghurt, pancakes, scrambled eggs, omelet, sausages, fried potatoes, cheese, sausage, cereal, muffins, buns, croissants, dates, prunes , raisins, 6 types of jam, apples, oranges. Yupi juices, sodas, bagged tea, coffee, cocoa. Lunch - mothers, in general, you can choose something for the children, they won’t leave hungry, but soup - in both canteens there is 1 type of soup, usually watery puree soup (onion, vegetable, pea, tomato, delicious mushroom) or minestrone. The children ate a couple of spoons with great reluctance. In principle, for lunch and dinner they served fish, mostly fried, meat in various versions (casserole, gravy, fried, etc.), fried chicken, French fries, a kind of mashed potatoes, fried, pasta, fried and stewed vegetables , spinach dishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, always spices, sauces for making salads. For lunch (12:30-14:30) and dinner (19:00-21:30) - three types of ice cream (strawberry, chocolate, vanilla) - no best quality, but you can eat. For dessert - biscuits with soufflé. Surprisingly, in two weeks there was seafood only twice, but with a large overabundance of spices - mussels and cuttlefish. For lunch and dinner, 4 types of wine were offered - red, rose, white and retina (a version of white with a peculiar taste), mumbling wine, although there was nothing white to go with fish dishes. The beer is so-so, the juices are again yuppie. I note that you can try freshly squeezed juices, but this is a beach bar and, in my opinion, 2.5 euros (ice cream is also paid here)
All vacationers were offered to visit a Greek and Italian restaurant once, but it was impossible to get in; they advised to come to the reception at 8 a.m. to make an appointment, since the Germans, who strictly follow the daily routine and get up at 7-8 a.m., leave no chance for others who love sleep on vacation, visit this establishment. But once, not without the help of one good man, we ended up in a Greek restaurant (the menu includes cuttlefish, meat, chicken, appetizers - eggplant rolls, fried zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, they bring a bottle of red or white wine, dessert - from the dining room) - nothing unusual, but The setting itself is very pleasant - on the seashore, friendly waiters, especially to children, had a wonderful time.

6. Animation: The hotel is German, the hotel has a franchise with Germany, and of course the emphasis was on the convenience and comfort of citizens of this nationality. In Sunshine, where Germans (and many with children) and other foreigners (French, Italians, English, etc.) settled, the animation was on German, in the evening at 21.30 - in the form of a show (a very mediocre one, I must say, antics with opening the mouth to the music), I think 8 (!) animators worked, all foreigners, almost no problem in Russian. But sometimes they translated to English language. During the day, the animators were almost invisible, so they mainly entertained the Germans with competitions, such as get spoons from the bottom of the pool and play beach volleyball. There was a kids club for children, but again mainly for young Germans. Children's animators are two girls - "Chut-Chut in Russian." In the Annex, where there are mostly Russians, thrifty foreigners, it’s rotten. During the day there is no animation at all, in the evenings at 20.00 children's animation begins, two girls paint the children, then children's dances begin, and at 21 o'clock animation for adults begins, which consists of holding competitions (such as lotto, lotteries for 5 -10 euros per person with a prize like soft toy or karaoke) on the terrace of the Annex dining room. Upon arrival it was my daughter’s birthday, the hotel’s bonus for the birthday girl was that her daughter’s glass of children’s cocktail was decorated with an orange slice, the cake had to be ordered in the morning for about 1,500 rubles. for kg, which we found out about during the day, but we went to a very good tavern “At Dimitrius’s”, 600 meters along the roadway from the hotel, on the seashore, ate the freshest seafood there, and Dimitrius personally brought his daughter a piece of cake with scoops of ice cream with a candle and all visitors congratulated her with a song! And in the evening, for 30 euros, after children's animation, the birthday girl was congratulated with a T-shirt and a bunch of balloons.
7. The beach is small pebbles, the kids were interested in looking for colorful pebbles, the only thing was to skip from the sunbed to the sea, even in beach shoes, since the pebbles got pretty hot. There are plenty of umbrellas and sun loungers even at the height of the season, and the sea is simply SUPER - CLEAN, TRANSPARENT, and it’s a pleasure to swim with a mask! When you walk in up to your knees, you are already surrounded by schools of fish! There are many convenient approaches, although there are large boulders, which are slippery and inconvenient to walk on. The fish were small, large, gray, black, there were even motley and emerald ones, and further from the shore, in the crevices we saw crabs, sea urchins, cannot be compared with Red, but is also worthy of attention. Oddly enough, there are not many swimmers; apparently, some spend their time on excursions and in pools. Worked water sports, 15 minutes on a jet ski 40 euros, water skiing 35 euros + 10 per lesson, catamaran, in my opinion, 30 euros per hour, also riding on an inflatable sofa and banana. Next to the sea there is a children's pool and a pool with slides, what fun the children had! True, the slides were turned off at 16.00, which was a shame early.

8. Wi-Fi in the hotel is paid, but freebies can be found across the road from the Annex hotel, sitting on the steps, in the supermarket the manager Adonis is a very friendly and hospitable Greek, there is also a store a kilometer from the hotel if you walk along the roadway, called “Art- Dimitrios' bazaar, souvenirs, shmatye, and free WiFi, and very friendly sellers. In general, this is a distinctive feature of the Greeks. Any supermarket has Russian-speaking sellers; supermarkets are open until 21-22 hours. But these are only supermarkets. Pharmacies, banks, etc. institutions are open until 14.00! And at least the pharmacies are not open on weekends, the nearest one is in Ierapetra, there is a duty station.

9. Weather: hot, 2 days there was a strong hurricane wind, but basically, all 14 days the breeze began in the afternoon, 1 day it was raining, in the evening, but this did not stop vacationers from swimming in the pool and moving around the territory

10. Excursions - we went to Ierapetra ourselves, I advise you to go there before 12:00, there are a lot of shops, Sales everywhere, but everything is closed after 12. You can just walk along the embankment, go to the lighthouse, see numerous churches and just wander along the streets and see the local color. You can also buy ferry tickets to Chrissi Island on the embankment, but the queue is huge.
Interesting excursion Cretan evening - 68 euros per person, Spinalonga island - 64 euros per person, I really liked the excursion to the island of Santorini 140 euros per person (+ surcharges for additional excursions and souvenirs), but very difficult, especially for children, early departure 04:30 in the morning it takes about 2 hours to get to the port and then stops at two other hotels, 2.5 hours by ferry, then by bus until the evening with three stops, and the road is serpentine, we were lucky, the air conditioning was weak on the bus, but it worked , and before us the group had a decent fire... But it’s still better to come to Santorini in September-October, when there are no crowds of tourists, sweltering heat, and the sea is still warm, as the locals say, and in Crete too.

To summarize, I will say that, in principle, we had a good rest, but I would not go to this hotel again.
