Climate

The weather conditions of the Urals vary greatly depending on the location of a particular area. Within the same zone on the plains of the Cis-Urals and Trans-Urals there can be completely different climatic conditions. The explanation for this lies in the presence of a kind of climatic barrier, the role of which is played by the Ural Mountains. To the west, the climate is more humid and mild, while to the east, on the contrary, it is dry, with minimal precipitation. In general, the winter months at the resorts in the region are snowy and frosty, and ski season usually lasts from December to April.

How to get there

All big cities Urals have international airports, and there are road, bus and train connections between the cities.

Major resorts

A significant share of the Ural ski resorts are located in the Yekaterinburg region. These include Mount Belaya, related to Nizhny Tagil, Mount Ezhovaya near Kirovgrad, Mount Pilnaya in Pervouralsk, and Utkus, in Yekaterinburg. All these complexes are similar to each other. The elevation difference varies from 100 to 300 meters, the average length of the trails is about a kilometer, there are snowboard parks, as well as ski areas for tubing and freeriding. Beginners, including the youngest ski lovers, have the opportunity to master the basics on gentle slopes, and for greater confidence, use the services of a professional instructor.

The first of them is located in the Miass area and is considered an elite ski center with slopes of varying degrees of difficulty, ski areas for snowboarders, a children's club, guest houses, a cafe and a Finnish sauna. Also, sledding, cheesecake riding and snowmobiling are possible here. This resort is recommended for family holidays, but it is worth considering that the prices here are quite steep. Adzhigardak has a dozen trails with a total length of 3.5 km and a height difference of up to 350 meters. A positive addition is the fact that they are illuminated at night. At the confluence of the Minyar and Sim rivers there is the Minyar ski complex, which experienced skiers and freeride fans love to visit.

In the Perm region, centers such as Zavyalikha, Takman and Gubakha are the patrimony for connoisseurs of winter sports. The total length of the Zavyalikha trails is about 14 km, among which there are a couple of routes for experienced skiing specialists. The elevation difference is about 400 meters. An intriguing circumstance for boarders is the fact that the Russian snowboard team usually trains here. Gubakha is recommended for more advanced skiers, while Takman has wide, gentle slopes ideal for beginners. There is a snow park and a boardercross track.

In Bashkortostan, Abzakovo and Beloretsk have gained considerable popularity. The latter lies on the snow-white slopes of Mratkino Peak, within the city of the same name, and hospitably welcomes its guests from December to April, delighting them with pleasant sunny weather and plenty of snow. This resort has tracks for giant slalom with a height difference of up to 200 meters, a slope for children, a number of running routes, biathlon tracks and 4 stages of a cable car. The entertainment industry is also well developed here. In the immediate vicinity of the ski complex there are several bars and discos, and the Metallurg sports club with a swimming pool and gyms opens its doors to everyone.

The Abzakovo resort is located in the spurs Ural mountains at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. Like Beloretsk, it has a biathlon shooting range, giant slalom and cross-country ski tracks, and also offers guests an extensive entertainment program, including a dance floor and a cinema hall, located in the hotel complex. For lovers of alpine skiing, there are trails of varying degrees of difficulty, there are modern ski lifts, and some slopes are illuminated at night. A small water park, gym and sauna are always ready to welcome those who want to add variety to their leisure time.

On the picturesque Lake Yakty-Kul there is another popular ski resort in Bashkiria - Bannoe, located 40 km from Magnitogorsk. The elevation difference here reaches 450 meters, and about a dozen trails designed for skiers of different categories welcome those wishing to ski throughout the season. The thickness of the snow cover can be adjusted if necessary using snow cannons. On the territory of the ski complex there are also ski areas for tubing enthusiasts and a freestyle snowboard school.

The region's ski resorts, the number of which has clearly increased in recent years, have become closer to the international level, although the number of slopes and quality of service are still far from ideal. However, many fans of alpine skiing go on vacation to the resorts of the region to get a complete picture of Russian skiing realities, as well as to experience the pleasure of skiing on the picturesque slopes of the Ural Mountains.
