The Stockholm Metro (Stockholms tunnelbana) is the only such transport network in Sweden. It has hundreds of stations, the total length exceeds 105 km. 47 stations are located on the ground and 53 on the surface.

The entrance to the metro is marked with a large blue “T” and is operated by the municipality-owned company SL.

The Stockholm metro opened its doors to passengers for the first time on October 1, 1950, when the line from Slussen to Hökarängen was put into operation. A year later the Slussen-Stureby line was opened, and in 1952
A line from Hötorget station to the western suburbs was put into operation. In 1957 these parts were connected through Central station Stockholm (T-Centralen station), forming a “green” metro line.

In 1964, the “red” line was opened, connecting the Swedish capital via Liljeholmen with its southwestern suburbs of Fruängen and Örnsberg (now extended to Norsborg). And the third, “blue” line, was opened in 1975 and connected Stockholm with the northwestern outskirts.

All three lines of the Stockholm metro connect at the T-centralen station, combined with the train and bus stations. This allows tourists to quickly transfer from the metro to a train (bus) going to capital airports Arlanda and Skavsta will go on a trip around the country: for example, go to Gothenburg or see Kalmar Castle

However, the Stockholm metro itself is a clear attraction - it is not without reason that it is called “the longest art gallery in the world.” Wall reliefs and paintings (the best of contemporary Swedish artists worked on the wall paintings), mosaics on the walls and unique stations carved out of solid granite rock coexist with completely pragmatic, sort of post-modern and very functional platforms.

A single metro ticket costs 30 CZK (about 3 euros), 20 CZK (if desired) will have to be paid for an electronic “smart card”. You can also buy a ticket in the format of a “text message” on your smartphone by sending a “message” to a special number (sl.se/en/fares—tickets/). Metro tickets can be purchased in the above-ground station vestibules or at the city's numerous ticket offices and kiosks decorated with the "SL" logo.

Stockholm metro map

Children aged 0-5 years old go free, and interestingly, an unlimited number of children under 7 years old can also avoid paying the fare if accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket

Up to 6 children under 12 years of age can enter free of charge when accompanied by an adult from 24:00 Friday through all weekends and on public holidays

You can get to Stockholm metro stations through the turnstiles or by going through a special booth with a controller. He will time stamp the tickets (they are valid for 1 hour on any type of transport). At all stations there are boards with the estimated time of arrival of the train and the name of the direction in which it will travel. Upon arrival of the train, a number appears on the display indicating the number of cars in the train.

Note that for tourists arriving in Stockholm on Silja Line ferries, the most relevant metro station is Gärdet, as it is the closest to the port and terminal (about 10 minutes on foot according to the signs) of the T13 line of the “red” line.

For passengers on Viking Line ferries that dock much closer to Stockholm's Old Town, the easiest option is to use Slussen station.

Gamla Stan - that's what they call it in Stockholm historical center cities. In the center of Gamla Stan is a small enclave where buildings from the early 13th century are found, this is all that has survived from medieval Stockholm. The dominant height is occupied by the majestic Royal Palace, on the square of which every day, at exactly noon, the ceremonial changing of the guard of honor takes place.

Gamla Stan is the most tourist place Stockholm and now we will take a short walk along the narrow alleys of the Old Town and at the same time we will linger at noon at the walls of the Palace to watch the changing of the guard.

Here Stockholm no longer looks like what we saw walking around Drottninggatan and other areas of the city

Narrow alleys, strange dark and not so alleys and nooks and crannies :)

There are souvenirs and shops with all sorts of handmade gadgets everywhere.

There are some very interesting specimens :)

And some citizens are stupefied by yet another work they see :)

Personally, I liked this relaxed stone guy on one of the facades :)

We didn’t forget to find the “Boy Looking at the Moon” sculpture, put a penny and patted him on the head, making a wish :)

We met the local “Bridge of Sighs” in one of the alleys; Venice immediately came to mind :)

German church

and a very interesting inscription on its forged gates: “Fear God, honor the King”

On Jarntorgen Square (Iron Square) you will find cozy cafes where you can relax with a cup of coffee and taste excellent Swedish chocolate.

Here, around the corner, is the narrowest alley in Stockholm.

It was named after the German merchant Morten Trotzig, who at one time bought property in this alley. The width of this “nook” is 90 cm, the staircase has 36 steps (see map)

There is one more interesting and interesting thing in Gamla Stan. most beautiful place— Stortorget square (see map), which means Big Square. This oldest square Stockholm. The Nobel Museum is also located here, and here at Christmas a Christmas tree is erected, folk festivities are held and the main Stockholm Christmas market unfolds. Unfortunately, I could not find my photo of the square, apparently I deleted it by mistake. Therefore, I will publish a photo found on the Internet:

In general, you can find a lot of interesting things in Gamla Stan. It's better if you are accompanied by good guide. If you can’t find a suitable excursion or you prefer to explore the city on your own, buy a guidebook at a souvenir shop, there are many detailed descriptions on the great and mighty, in our time this is not a problem.

It's almost noon, which means it's time for us to go to the Royal Palace, the ritual of changing the guard is about to begin!

Stay tuned! To be continued :)

Update! Continuation: Changing of the guard at the Royal Palace

Drottninggatan - starts right behind one of the bridges in the Old Town. Along the street are quotes from the works of the Swedish writer Johan August Strindberg.

Parallel to Drottninggatan there is Sergelgatan Street with the famous “no to violence” monument - a revolver, the barrel of which is tied in a knot.

Gulrypsh - a holiday destination for celebrities

Available on Black Sea coast Abkhazia is an urban-type settlement called Gulrypsh, the appearance of which is closely connected with the name of the Russian philanthropist Nikolai Nikolaevich Smetsky.   • determine excursion routes;
  • find suitable areas to stay (you will need a map of Stockholm with hotels).
The Swedish capital lies on 14 islands, which determine the division of Stockholm into districts. There is probably no point in listing them all; let’s highlight the most interesting ones - the areas where it is best to live and where the main attractions of the city are located.

The tourist and geographical center of the city is the island (district) Stadsholmen, where old town- Gamla Stan. For a long time it was called Stockholm - later the city expanded at the expense of neighboring settlements.

Adjacent to Gamla Stan to the west is the Riddarholmen district, where travelers love to take photographs, and to the north is the Normalm district (it is in this area in the center of Stockholm that most business centers are located).

Östermalm is considered the most prestigious and expensive area. There are chic restaurants and fashionable hotels here (pay attention to this fact when considering which area of Stockholm to stay in).

Be sure to pay attention to the Djurgården district - one of the most picturesque islands capitals.

Talking about dangerous areas Stockholm, local residents They are called Tensta and Rinkeby - many foreigners live here, between whom interethnic conflicts periodically arise. But the ship lay there for several centuries, being raised only in 1961. It will be interesting to watch a film about how it was raised from the bottom and restored. And there was a lot that needed to be restored: “Vasa” is decorated with seven hundred carved sculptures.

City Hall

The architect of the city hall, Ragnar Østberg, was inspired by Italian Renaissance palaces. The building was built in 1923 to his design and has dark red tiles and a tower with a weather vane in the shape of the three golden crowns of the Swedish national coat of arms. Currently, the city hall houses the Stockholm municipality: several offices, conference rooms and rooms for special occasions.
