One of the few almost completely preserved station complexes on this railway, including numerous buildings, mainly appeared during the construction of the road in 1902-1906.

The complex of buildings includes a station, two barracks and a half-barracks for railway employees, two houses with one and two apartments, a club, a kerosene warehouse, a water tower, a guardhouse at the crossing and two booths for switchmen, as well as auxiliary buildings - two sheds (luggage and wood) and a makeshift wartime power station made from railroad cars.

Kuzhenkino station is not only a complex of railway buildings, but also numerous buildings of a military camp, built before World War I, but used by the military department to this day. Since you can only get there with special passes, we are forced to omit the story about these structures. On the Google map these are numerous buildings to the west and northwest of the railway:

For convenience, in this fragment of the same place we have circled the station in red, and it in yellow. outbuildings and the power plant, blue for the residential barracks and gatehouse, brown for the switchmen's booths, and orange for the water tower. As you can see, the old buildings were symmetrically located, and the entire development was clearly planned.

The most noticeable building of the complex is, of course, the station (its coordinates are given below). This is one of three surviving stations on this road. Compare with the drawings (taken from the book "Bologoe-Polotsk Reserve Railway"(M., 2009). P. 14, 16). The name of the Nazimovo station station near Velikiye Luki, which died during the war, is indicated, but the project is standard.

The station building in the Art Nouveau style has well preserved its external architectural decor - original frames on the pediments, hanging carved weights of various shapes and curved brackets that support the roof.

A special decoration is the turret with a weather vane. It has been replaced with a new one, but in the same form. This is the only one at this station.

Currently, the interiors of the waiting rooms are completely Soviet-era and post-war. Only the premises allocated for the duty officer, telegraph, and post office have retained more or less their original appearance. Doors with panels and old handles, janitor's drawers, Utermark stoves, as well as station equipment have been preserved:

The station is surrounded by wooden and stone buildings of different years, but the vast majority are from the 1900s. Particular attention is drawn to several barns, where next to the luggage barn there is a very monumental structure with a pitched roof, the projection of which is decorated with carved consoles of an asymmetrical pattern

The old woodshed has also been preserved, with two carriages attached to it. According to the authors of the book "Bologoe-Polotsk Reserve Railway", these are two cars - a domestic normal car of the pre-war model and a captured German covered one, model 1942. During the war, they housed a power station, and now they store firewood:

In front of the station building, a concrete box (early 20th century), common here at all stations, enclosing a sandy bedding platform has been preserved:

On the other side of the station, a partially cobblestone circular path around the square has been preserved, behind which there is a wooden clubhouse (circled in pink on the Google photo) from the 1930s.

and a water tower with two tanks with a preserved domed top with round hatches, decorated with granite cladding and decorative belts.

Near the station there is a miniature but beautifully executed structure - a kerosene warehouse, the architecture of which follows the same type as the water tower. The small and completely utilitarian structure turned out to be truly monumental.

Residential barracks (state houses with apartments for employees, very good housing by the standards of that time), have been preserved different types. The so-called "linear barracks". Drawing from the indicated book (p. 17) and the implemented project:

Near the crossing, the so-called “watch house” (from the indicated book, p. 21) has been preserved (but is now abandoned), and behind it is the switchman’s hut:

Then the village of Kuzhenkino was formed, as it exists today. A remarkable complex of buildings exists just a few kilometers from the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway, but is little known. It deserves greater fame and state protection as a rare surviving example of Russian railway architecture from the early 20th century.
