What's in the Burj Khalifa. Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world in Dubai, UAE. What's inside the Burj Khalifa

Dubai is the most Big City in the United United Arab Emirates. It attracts thousands of tourists, surprises with its rich cultural heritage, architectural landmarks. One of the last, and rather the main, tower is rightfully considered the Burj Khalifa - the most tall skyscraper in the world. It is built in a modern architectural style and attracts the attention of everyone who flies to Dubai on vacation or on a business visit.

The height of the Burj Khalifa tower is 828 meters. This is 300 meters more than the height of the building in the city of Taimpei, which is considered the main competitor of the Dubai Tower. So far, no building has been built in the world that could surpass the achieved milestone.

If you are wondering how many floors there are in the Burj Khalifa tower, then it includes 163 floors, which house 9 hotels. There is also a complex of fountains, like in Las Vegas. The total price of the high-rise is just over $4 billion.

The author of the high-rise project was a famous American architect. His name is Adrian Smith. Prior to this, he took part in the development of a high-rise building project in China, stretching upward to 420 meters. The Burj Khalifa tower itself in Dubai has become the heart of the city’s business center:

  • on the first 37 floors there are hotels where anyone can rent apartments of the desired level of comfort;
  • Floors 45-108 are occupied by 700 modern apartments, equipped in accordance with the most advanced technologies;
  • the rest of the area – office rooms, because that’s how the building was built – as a business center. But even this feature did not prevent it from becoming the main architectural landmark of the city and the UAE as a whole.

To find out what the view is from the Burj Khalifa tower, just go up to the observation deck At The Top SKY. It is located on the 148th floor, at an altitude of 555 m. The ascent is carried out using a modern high-speed elevator, it is considered one of the best in the world and will take you to your destination in just a few minutes. While on the observation deck, you will be able to:

  • explore the entire area, because from here you have an excellent view of Dubai;
  • organize relaxation in the lounge;
  • visit the interactive room.

It is possible to go down to the observation decks located on the 124th and 125th floors. On average, you can stay at the observation decks for about an hour. This time is enough to look at the surrounding beauty from the heights of the tower. Tickets for the venues are sold on the first floor of the high-rise building.

Important! If you buy a regular ticket to visit the Burj Khalifa in the UAE, you can save a lot of money, but in this case you will have to wait in a fairly long line to visit the site. If you don’t want to waste valuable time, you can purchase a more expensive express ticket. It costs almost twice as much, but allows you to skip the line. You can purchase a pass to the observation deck, which is located on the 148th floor, at the same ticket office or on the 124th floor.

Design features of the high-rise

It is difficult to imagine how the largest building in the city and country, the Burj Khalifa tower, is held on the surface of the earth. But this moment was carefully calculated by the designers and architects. Especially for the construction of a high-rise building, a special grade of concrete was developed that can withstand temperatures up to +50. It is poured at night, and ice must be added to the solution itself. It was this technology that made it possible to build the skyscraper in question.

If we talk about the tower itself and its features, then there are 65 two-story lifts. Their total cost is $36 million. It should be noted that you can only go from the first to the top floor using the service elevator. Residents of the building have to move between its floors with transfers. This does not bring significant inconvenience, because the fastest elevators in the world are installed here. They reach speeds of up to 18 m/s.

A modern fire system allows for the fastest possible evacuation of everyone in the building, spending no more than half an hour. The high-rise is equipped with all technologies that ensure the safety of residents and guests.

The Burj Khalifa building has broken all world height records. The tower was built in the crisis year of 2010. It bears the name of the UAE President, Khalifa, who allocated a huge amount for the construction of the skyscraper. Before this, the building was simply called "Burj Dubai". From housing stock The first place in the world before the construction of the legendary Dubai skyscraper belonged to the Taipei 101 skyscraper located in Taiwan. The height of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper is 828 m.

Record construction time

Despite the crisis and financial difficulties, construction was carried out at a record pace. On average, two floors were expelled every seven days. Not a single tower crane could cope with delivering concrete to such a huge height in the required quantity. The solution was pumped up the pipes under high pressure. Construction of the skyscraper did not stop, even when other projects were suspended due to lack of funds. The workers received good wages. Many people dreamed of working here.

Building design

The project was made by the best specialists from Korea, USA and Southern Europe. The pride of the creators is elevators that operate at a speed of 40 km/h. With one change until high point the towers can be reached in two minutes. The service elevator goes to the very top.

Autonomous provision of a skyscraper

The outside of the building is partly covered with solar panels. There is also a wind turbine here. The energy they generate is enough for uninterrupted 24-hour power supply. Technical components and television equipment are located in a two-hundred-meter spire, which is made of metal.

The tallest building on the planet houses cinemas, swimming pools, residential apartments, shopping centers, hotels and much more. Next to the tower is one of the largest musical fountains in the world.

Facts about the skyscraper

  • The height of the unique skyscraper is 828 meters
  • The building has 163 floors
  • Spire height – 180 meters
  • 1.5 billion dollars were spent on construction
  • The building contains 900 residential apartments
  • The height of the observation deck is 555 meters
  • Movement between floors is provided by 57 elevators
  • 12 thousand workers took part in the construction of the tower.

In the early 2000s, the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, began implementing a plan to transform his emirate into one of the main centers of world tourism. One of the points of this plan was the construction of a new area - Dubai Downtown, which includes more than 100 residential and office buildings, hotels, the largest shopping center, impressive fountains and many other projects. But the key element of the new area was to be the world's tallest skyscraper.

2003 Burj Khalifa will be built on this site

In the spring of 2002, Dubai construction company Emaar approached architect Adrian Smith with a proposal to design the most high building in the world. Adrian Smith was chosen because of his Jin Mao skyscraper, built in the heart of Shanghai. The original design was 518 meters high, enough to overtake the then record holder Taiwan's Taipei 101 skyscraper, which is 509 meters high. But at the initial stage of construction, the project was changed at least 7 times, the latest options provided for a height of 705 and 750 meters. Smith was not happy with the constant demands to change the project and proposed 5 final options towers that will not change. Emaar chose a project with a height of 828 meters.
The project was launched under the name Burj Dubai, construction work began in January 2004.

In December 2004, the foundation of the tower was completed.

It took almost a year to construct the first 10 floors of the building. September 2005:

A special grade of concrete was developed especially for the Burj Khalifa, which can withstand temperatures up to +50 °C for a long time. It was poured only at night, and ice was added to the solution. Otherwise, too high a temperature would not allow the concrete to gain the necessary strength when hardening. April 2006:

The average speed of tower construction was 1-2 floors per week. October 2006:

October 2007: Burj Khalifa reaches 160 floors, followed by construction of a 200-meter steel spire.

Glass designed specifically for the Burj Khalifa will transmit enough light, but at the same time reflect some of the heat, which will significantly reduce air conditioning costs. In addition, they must withstand enormous wind loads on the tower. March 2008.

Multimillion-dollar cash flows have allowed the UAE to enter the list of the richest countries, in connection with this, residents and officials develop and manifest a craving for luxury in everything. This fact is confirmed by the Burj Khalifa skyscraper (Dubai). The tower was built in record time - 6 years. Ready project collected many world records.

Skyscraper Burj Khalifa - general data

Burj Khalifa is called the main skyscraper on the planet. After the grand opening, the tower was christened the Tower of Babel; it was able to break two dozen world records.

Interesting to know! It is likely that quite soon the records of the Burj Khalifa building will be surpassed, since the UAE is designing new tower more than one kilometer high.

Until the opening day, which occurred in January 2010, the total height and number of floors of the tower were kept a closely guarded secret. The real height of the tower became known only at the opening of the attraction. The skyscraper visually resembles a stalagmite. The building was originally planned as a city within a city. The skyscraper cost the country's budget approximately $1.5 billion.

The financial crisis also affected the UAE. The original opening date was planned for 2009, however, due to financial difficulties, the ceremony was held in 2010. The Prime Minister of the country was present at the ceremony, he noted that the majestic building should have a name no less majestic. Therefore, it was decided to name the tower in honor of the great caliph.

Inside there are residential apartments, a hotel, work offices, retail space, restaurant, gym and jacuzzi, swimming pools, two observation decks. The building has special membranes installed that perform a rather strange function - they scent the rooms throughout the tower. It is noteworthy that the scent was created individually for the skyscraper. The windows have double-glazed windows with the following qualities:

  • do not allow dust to enter the room;
  • repel ultraviolet radiation;
  • maintain a comfortable temperature regime.

Taking into account the size and weight of the structure, a specific grade of concrete was developed to order. home performance characteristics– ability to withstand temperatures up to +50 degrees. It is noteworthy that the solution was prepared at night by adding ice to it.

The tower has 57 elevators. The only elevator that goes up through all floors is a service elevator and is not accessible to guests or residents. The elevator speed in Burj Khalifa is 10 m/s.

The surrounding area is designed to match a luxurious skyscraper. Near the entrance there is a fountain, illuminated by six thousand lighting fixtures and five dozen colored spotlights. Musical accompaniment complements general impression about the attractions.

Construction of the Burj Khalifa took six years. The builders rented out one or two floors every week. The author of the luxurious, rich project is Adrienne Smith. main feature project - to create a sense of the presence of a city within a city - with independent infrastructure, separate streets and park areas. The famous specialist Adrian Smith, who designed a skyscraper in China, worked on the architectural project, which became a challenge to the whole world.

The shape of the tower, imitating a stalagmite, was not chosen by chance. This design is more stable and better able to withstand gusts of wind, which are quite strong at an altitude of 600 m. Particular attention was paid to reducing energy costs, so thermal panels were used to decorate the façade. Their main goal is to reduce electricity bills. To organize the foundation, suspended piles 45 m long were used.

How long did it take to build the Burj Khalifa?

Work on the project began in 2004. As a rule, 2 floors were commissioned weekly, however, sometimes it was not possible to build one floor in 10 days. The reason for delays was most often the hot climate of the Emirates. As a rule, construction work was carried out at night.

12 thousand workers were involved in the construction of the skyscraper. Unfortunately, most of them lived in terrible conditions and received meager wages. Considering that the allocated budget was not enough, a decision was made to reduce labor costs. Construction lasted six years and during this period workers regularly went on strike.

Interesting fact! Until the last moment, the designers did not know on which floor construction would have to stop. Managers feared that the space of the skyscraper would be unclaimed, but 344 thousand sq.m. were actively purchased by companies, organizations and individuals.

Technical characteristics and architectural features

The technical equipment of the skyscraper not only meets the highest standards of quality and safety, but in a sense surpasses them. The main difficulty for the designers was to achieve cooling of the building, because in the summer the daytime temperature exceeds +50 degrees. Specialists have developed a special air conditioning system for the skyscraper, taking into account climatic conditions– air moves from bottom to top, while using sea water, special cooling structures.

Good to know! The morning temperature inside the skyscraper is maintained at +18 degrees. In parallel with air conditioning, the air is aromatized using special membranes.

The building is an energy independent object. Thanks to solar panels located on the walls of the structure, the skyscraper is fully powered. In addition, electricity is generated by a huge turbine 61 m long.

Many people are interested in the question: how safe is it to be in a skyscraper and what will happen to visitors in the event of a natural disaster? As a result of numerous experiments and tests, it was found that all guest buildings will be evacuated in just 32 minutes.

Despite its impressive size, height and weight, the structure stands firmly on the ground. The stability of the building is given by piles with a diameter of 1.5 m and a length of 45 m. There are two hundred of them in total. Also, for greater strength, special counterweights are used - balls made of a mixture of steel and concrete weighing about 800 tons. The balls are fixed on springs, thanks to which they balance and neutralize vibrations of the structure.

Interesting to know! During strong winds, the Burj Khalifa tower deviates more than a few meters, but the risk of destruction is almost zero.

Considering that there is a water shortage in the UAE, the tower uses a modern method of collecting rainwater. They even collect condensate - the drops flow down the pipes that lead to the tank. Thus, it is possible to collect 40 million liters of water daily, which is subsequently used for irrigation.

The cleanliness of windows and mirrored facade panels is maintained using special twelve machines weighing 13 tons each, they move along a rail system. It is served by almost forty people.

Structure, internal layout

The inside of the Burj Khalifa is arranged as follows:

  • a hotel with a capacity of 304 rooms (Armani personally worked on the design of each room);
  • nine hundred apartments;
  • office rooms.

In addition, on the floors of the Burj Khalifa there are shopping centers, nightclubs, swimming pools, a mosque and an observatory. The tower also has technical rooms and covered parking lots with a capacity of more than three thousand cars. For greater convenience, the building has three entrances. On the very top floors there are telecommunication networks.

The restaurant in Burj Khalifa is the highest on the planet - 500 m (122nd floor). The main concept of the establishment is that the establishment should personify a yacht in the sky, and in terms of service and level of comfort, evoke associations with a luxurious, chic yacht. The restaurant is located at an altitude of almost 500 m – 122nd floor. Many visitors pay not for the food, but for the view from the Burj Khalifa. The hall is designed for 200 people. As for prices, they are, of course, high. However, coming to Dubai and not visiting the restaurant in the tower would be a big mistake. Dinner with a breathtaking view from the window at an altitude of half a kilometer is worth the money spent.

European dishes predominate on the menu, this is due to the fact that visitors prefer to order traditional European cuisine. Molecular cuisine dishes are especially in demand.

The wine list features exquisite wines from Australia and New Zealand. The wine is served with the restaurant's signature snack - a mixture of nuts and wasabi, but the taste of the dish is quite strange. Seafood and fish treats are also available. If you want to try something grilled, the chefs will be happy to prepare it.

When planning a visit to a restaurant, be prepared to find yourself in the realm of luxury. Stylish, modern interior, glass walls, and the ceiling is decorated with expensive mahogany. The room is decorated with expensive accessories, and the walls are hung with expensive carpets.

Interesting fact! The restaurant has a telescope through which you can view the landscape in detail.

  • There is a dress code in the restaurant;
  • You need to book a table in advance, since there are a huge number of people who want to visit the establishment;
  • many tourists note that the portions in the restaurant are small;
  • It is best to book a table for the evening – 18-30-19-30, best views open from windows located opposite the bar counter;
  • prices in the establishment are fixed: breakfast - 200 AED per person, lunch - 220 AED per person, dinner - 580 AED per person, 880 AED per person if you want to sit at a table by the window;
  • time to visit the restaurant: breakfast - from 7-00 to 11-00, lunch from 12-30 to 16-00, dinner from 18-00 to midnight.

Observation platforms

The Dubai skyscraper has two platforms for viewing the city - this is important because the price of admission is different. In addition, it is better to choose a specific time to visit each tower.

  • AT THE TOP – the Burj Khalifa observation deck is located on the 124th floor, one ticket also gives you the right to visit the closed observatory on the floor above;
  • AT THE TOP SKY - one of the highest observation structures - is located on the 148th floor, the height of the observation deck in Burj Khalifa is 555 m.

Since its opening, the Dubai landmark has been fighting for world records. Initially, the upper tower was absent from the architectural plan, since the lower tower was enough for the world record. A year after the opening of the skyscraper in Dubai, the construction of a tower with a view of the city at an altitude of almost 490 m was completed in Guangzhou. In the fall of 2014, the upper platform was put into operation - a record again in Dubai. In the summer of 2016, the world achievement again moved to the Middle Kingdom - an observation deck, equipped at an altitude of just above 560 m, began operating on a tower in Shanghai.

Cost of visit:

  • tickets to Burj Khalifa on the lower observation platforms(open and Observatory) – 135 AED;
  • comprehensive tickets to all observation platforms and the Observatory – 370 AED.

The attraction is open daily from 8-30 to 22-00. For the bottom platform best time from 15-00 to 18-30, for the upper platform on the tower - from 9-30 to 18-00.

Armani Hotel at Burj Khalifa

The luxurious Armani Hotel is allocated to 11 floors of the Dubai Tower. Giorgio Armani worked on the design of all apartments. Vacationers have at their disposal: a separate entrance, a salon where you can undergo a course of spa treatments, a separate exit to retail premises Molla.

The main concept is refined elegance, soft lines and expensive textiles. Guests can also enjoy a TV, free Wi-Fi, and a DVD player. The hotel has seven restaurants, one of which offers a Japanese menu, and the Armani Privé restaurant where you can attend popular parties.

Good to know! The journey to the airport in Dubai takes only 20 minutes.
