Koh Kood is an island of coconut palms in Thailand. Useful information for those who are going to Kokoud

Thai island Ko Kood in the Gulf of Thailand is one of the most large islands in the kingdom. Only Phuket, Koh Chang and Samui are bigger than it. But if many locals live in the first three, crowds of tourists come, then on Ko Kood there is no trace of a crowd. There are only 2,000 local residents there, and even fewer tourists. So it turns out to be a very intimate setting and a secluded atmosphere.

On Ko Kood there is no ring road around the island, there is only a concrete road connecting the northern part of the island with the southern part and roads radiating from it of varying degrees of quality. The island is not so mountainous, the maximum height of the mountains here is only 315 meters, so there are no such steep serpentines as on Koh Chang, for example. Most of the island is covered with forest, it is very green here and this is good.

Due to the island's remoteness from the mainland and Chang, Ko Kood is not particularly popular among tourists; it is quite cozy and relaxed here. There are practically no Thais who are tired of crowds of farangs and Chinese, so if you are nostalgic for Thailand before the surge in its popularity, this is the place for you. The island hasn't deteriorated yet.

If you are already in Thailand, then the situation becomes much simpler and cheaper. How to get to Ko Kood from different points in Thai?

From Pattaya

The easiest method now is to buy a transfer from a hotel in Pattaya to Koh Kuda through an online service at a price of 850 baht.

There is also the option of taking a full transfer from the hotel in Pattaya to the hotel at Koh Kudev travel agencies. Its price is 900 baht. I recommend buying a return transfer immediately in Pattaya, since it will be more expensive in Koh Kood.

You can get there with a transfer in Trat, how to do this, read in.

From Bangkok

The easiest way is to take a combo ticket (minibus to the pier, speedboat to Koh Kood, transfer to the hotel) for 850 baht through the online service for 850 baht.

If you take everything separately, you can save 100-150 baht. First you need to get to Trat, how to do this, read my article about. And then - below.

From Trat

Every day, boats depart from Laem Sok Pier to Koh Kood. More precisely, one smaller and faster boat and one slower and larger one, for some reason they call it Ferry, although in fact it is also a boat.

Ferry Koh Kood Princess departs from Laem Sok Pier daily at 12:30. And back from the island at 10:00. But Koh Kude arrives from Ao Salad Pier and departs from Hin Dam Pier. Be careful: these piers are located in different parts of the island. Ferry price 350 baht. Children from 6 to 9 years old buy a ticket for 50%, and under 6 travel for free. The price includes transfer from your hotel in Trat to Laem Sok Pier. But the transfer from Ao Salad to your hotel on Koh Kood is not included in the price and you need to negotiate with the hotels to pick you up from the pier. Carrying a motorbike is possible and costs the same as an adult ticket. They do not ask for any documents for the motorbike. The ferry workers will load and unload it themselves. Such a boat floats for 1.5-2 hours.

Koh Kood Express also departs from Laem Sok Pier daily at 12:30, and back at 10:00 from Hin Dam Pier in Koh Kood. Ferry price 350 baht. Children under 4 years old travel for free. The price includes transfer from your hotel in Trat to Laem Sok Pier. On the island, transfer to the hotel is not included in the price. You can also bring a motorbike on this boat for the price of a ticket.

The Koh Kood Speedboat departs from Laem Sok daily at 10am and returns from the island at 1pm. It arrives and departs from the Hin Dam pier on Koh Kood, which is more convenient since this pier is closer to the center of the island. Ticket price – 600 baht. Children from 5 to 10 years old get a 50% discount, under 5 years old – free. The price includes transfer from the hotel in Trat to the hotel in Ko Kood. This boat floats for 1 hour. Doesn't carry motorbikes.

Tickets for these boats can be bought at offices near the pier, or at travel agencies in the city - the price is the same.

From Koh Chang island

A small boat operates between the islands daily, departing from Kai Bae Pier on Chang at 9am and from Bang Bao Pier on Kuda at 11am. The fare is 900 baht.

On the same boat you can get from Ko Kood to Ko Wai for 700 baht and to Ko Mak for 400.

Transport within the island

There are no taxis or motorcycle taxis on the island. Everyone gets around on their own motorbikes, which are rented here for 350 baht per day. Which is expensive. If you are going for a long time, it is cheaper to rent in Trat for less than 150 baht per day and transport this bike by ferry. The cheapest gasoline is in the central village, at the gas station. But throughout the island it is sold in bottles for 40 baht a liter. You can also rent a car with a driver at a price of 1,200 baht per day.

Where to live

I have already written a detailed article on the topic. There are all kinds of housing options there, from simple guesthouses for 200 baht to posh resorts for $2,000.

Where there is

In guesthouses and even more so in resorts, food is expensive, so many farangs do not eat there, but go to cheap eateries, of which there are not many on the island.

Edalni next to the stadium

In the central village, next to the stadium, there are several of the most popular eateries, where we most often ate. Most simple dishes cost 40 baht. But there are also 50, 60, 80.

Food shop next to Ko Kood Ice-Cream

Rak Restaurant

Located on the way to Khlong Chao Waterfall, close to Baan Sangjun Guesthouse with rooms for 6,000 baht per month. It's a little more expensive here and most dishes cost 60 baht, but there are also 40 baht.

Shops and fruits

There are several small supermarkets along the main road on the island. Prices there are slightly higher than on the mainland. The assortment is not large, but in general there is everything. It is more profitable to buy water in a whole package, with a discount for small wholesale. Fruit on the island is expensive, even bananas. Along the road they are sold from shops, where the prices are the cheapest.

Things to do on Koh Kood Island

Beaching

Ko Kood - beach place. Moreover, the beaches there are some of the best in Thailand. Of course, they are far from the Indonesian beaches on uninhabited islands, like, but for Tai these are kosher beaches - it’s hard to find cooler ones in the kingdom.

Waterfalls

There are 3 waterfalls on the island. Alas, we were there during the dry season and did not fully appreciate them. But the waterfalls are free, unlike those on Koh Chang or Samui!

Most famous waterfall, the largest and deepest. It has a large bowl in which you can bathe. In March he looked like this.

Located in the north of the island, not far from the place where we lived - Koh Kood Garden House. I think it’s wonderful here in October-November – there’s a lot of water. But in the dry season there is only a thin trickle. The waterfall has several rapids, this is the largest.

Klong Yai Kee has a very interesting location, you can go down a little and there will be beautiful stone creeks along which water should flow after the rainy season.

Or it is also called the secret waterfall, since finding the way to it is not easy. This waterfall is located in a beautiful gorge and consists of several rapids.

There are interesting stones with holes there, apparently in the past water pierced them like that, falling from somewhere above.

Big trees

Since most of the island is still covered with forest, there are still large trees in the depths. And even very large ones, such as a couple of 500-year-old giants, Makka Tree and Big Chai Tree. They look something like this.

I can’t say that I was very impressed, I’ve seen such trees so many times in Sumatra, for example, in, but you can stop by, especially since these trees are on the way to the Huang Nam Kaew waterfall

Trekking Klong Kang Kao – Khao Ruea Rop

This trail begins behind Mata Guesthouse and goes to rocks that are shaped like ships.

The trail initially goes through mangroves.

But gradually he enters the forest. With ficus stranglers...

Since it was the dry season, nothing interesting was found in the forest. Trail map.

You can also get to the trail by motorbike, turning off the main road of the island following the sign for Khao Ruea Rop near Ngam Kho beach.

Fishing villages

There are two more fishing villages on the island - Ao Salad in the north of the island and Ao Yai in the south. The road to the latter is the most mountainous, sparsely populated and there is one good viewpoint. The villages themselves are not as colorful as Indonesian ones, so I didn’t take any photos. There are fish restaurants in the villages where you can taste fresh seafood.

Excursions

The island offers several boat trips around the island with snorkeling. Find out prices at travel agencies, or the main tour office near Klong Chao Beach.

Internet

Wi-Fi is available in all expensive resorts, in many guesthouses and cafes. But slow. The fastest Internet on desktop computers in the main tourist office. Naturally, it’s paid, but I forgot how much it costs.

Wash

You can do your laundry by handing over your clothes to several Laundrys located along the road, for example, to the cheapest one, in the eatery next to the Ice-Cream Restorant. 50 baht per kilo.

Map

A free map of the island can be obtained from tourist island, it is quite detailed and reliable. In the meantime, I suggest you familiarize yourself with my map of the island, where all the main points are marked.

In fourth place. Located thirty kilometers south of the Au Hai district, part of the Trat province. You can get there by booking a combined route on.

Koh Kood Island in Thailand It is considered one of the “youngest” resort areas, where tourists have set foot only in recent years. Therefore, by choosing it as a vacation destination, you will have at your service a poorly developed tourist infrastructure, but almost virgin, untrodden nature and a crystal clear, azure sea. This is one of best places for young couples who love a relaxing and romantic holiday.

Hotels on Koh Kood Island

Koh Kood Island Hotels will delight those who want to feel themselves in the role of Signor Robinson. The bungalows along the coast are very similar to the huts of this adventurer, but offer an almost European level of comfort. Even in thatched huts for 400 baht per day there are fans; for those who are not satisfied with this, they can choose apartments with air conditioning, costing at least 700 baht. Some hotels boast a free Wi-Fi zone. In the village of Klong Chao there are one-story permanent buildings consisting of 8-10 rooms.

On the island of Koh Kood, only the coastal area is inhabited, so everything Koh Kood hotels are in the first line. On the west coast there are resorts located near two large rivers islands. Those who settle there have access to a special service - renting kayaks for traveling deep into the jungle.

There may also be such container-type hotels

The popularity of the island is gradually gaining momentum, so during the high season, which lasts from December to March, it is better to take care of hotel reservations. You can choose and book the hotel you like on the island of Ko Kut on the websites or. A map with located hotels is at the end of the article.

Beach holiday on Koh Kood island

Beaches of Koh Kood island located along west coast. There are several of them, but three of them are the most popular.

Klong Chao Beach

Klong Chao- the largest, located near administrative capital islands. There are most hotels and guest houses around it. The tourism infrastructure is best developed there. Next to it there is a waterfall - one of the main attractions of the island.

Bang Bao Beach

Bang Bao surrounded by hills covered with lush tropical vegetation. The sea is calm White sand The beach is interrupted in some places by large rocky boulders.

Ta Phao Beach

Taphao- a delight for the eyes, along the edge of which palm trees grow, providing blissful shade. It's the best place to watch sunsets. Not far from it is the village of Khlong Mat.

The island is very small, there is only one road. It goes from the pier in the bay on the northern coast to the western one, then along it almost to the southern tip of the island and turns to east coast. Its total length is about 25 kilometers. Public and commercial transport on Koh Kood island completely absent. It has a single resident, apparently a local madman, who earns money by driving his cab. You can spend hours looking for it or waiting, so it’s better to rent a bike at the hotel (). It costs about three hundred baht. If you have a penchant for masochism, then rent a bike. The island is replete with elevation changes, so you will have to work hard.

It’s definitely worth going to Ko Kood! And all because this island is still considered one of the most beautiful in Thailand. Why do you say bye? The answer is simple. On this island, the infrastructure is still very poorly developed. Quantity local residents, is approximately two thousand souls and they live mainly at the expense of tourists. The island has virgin nature and practically wild beaches. Be careful because a coconut may fall on your head!

Isn't this a paradise? Do you think it's boring here? Perhaps, but only if you are used to visiting nightclubs and other entertainment venues. By the way, there are no such nightclubs in Ko Kood. Of the attractions on this island, there are only natural beauty- jungles, waterfalls, coconut palms, clean beaches, crabs and other amazing things that are a manifestation of the exotic in our everyday life. HOLIDAY REPORTS:

Antonina

Impressions from a holiday in February

I don't like winter because heavy clothes make it difficult to move quickly around the city. You're constantly freezing. You don’t have time to drink coffee at work to avoid freezing. Therefore, I strive to go to “warm regions” for at least a week. As a matter of principle, I don’t buy tickets to Egypt, in case one of the local residents steals me. I chose a different direction: Thailand. Even the weather forecasters convinced me. After looking at the weather forecast, I realized that it is warm in Thailand in February. I was not mistaken. In Thailand, sunny weather awaited me. The air temperature was so comfortable that I didn’t have time to get tired of the heat. The thermometer showed a temperature of 30 degrees. This is a favorable season for relaxation. Because there is not much precipitation either. During the 8 days of my weekend, there were clouds only once. But even the rain wouldn't ruin my mood, because when you're on paradise island In Ko Kood, the level of endorphins is off the charts, and you don’t pay attention to the vagaries of nature.

Youth recreation

Thailand used to be unpopular tourist destination. Because our people were frightened with stories about wildlife, dangerous animals and strict laws that are sure to await tourists in the Kingdom of Thailand. Now Thai resorts are considered the best. I believe that holidays in Thailand will appeal most to young people. At Thai resorts you will find discos, restaurants, night shows, entertainment and even extreme sports. What will surprise first-time tourists most of all are the lady fights. These are the people of Thailand who make money from their beauty. Most often, men undergo beauty surgery to quickly earn good money. And tourists are tired of drag queen shows. Therefore, there are a lot of such ladyboys on the streets of Thailand; they themselves easily make contact with foreigners.

What to take with you on vacation?

I don’t recommend taking food or unnecessary items with you in Thailand, because there are strict customs control. This is a plus: you don’t have to carry heavy loads.

Where is the best place to stay?

On the island of Koh Kood budget housing No. Nice apartments You won't find it for $50. I stayed at the Koh Kood Baach Resort. The rooms are luxurious, have a jacuzzi and a large bed. The hotel area is clean and well-groomed, there are a lot of flowers, like in botanical garden. There are also other advantages: a closed area and a separate access to a quiet bay.

Thailand offers entertainment that you won't find in other countries. I didn’t book an excursion to the desert jungle and I don’t force you to. I recommend getting therapy for your nerves and riding elephants. The service costs $30. You can ride an elephant for an hour, and you can even swim in the water with the animal.

There are many establishments serving food in the capital of Thailand national cuisine. You can try scorpions in sauce and various fried cockroaches. But there is also Russian cuisine. When I arrived in Pattaya, I found the Uncle Vanya restaurant there. Yes, they serve okroshka and potatoes with garlic. You may not like Thai food, but I recommend trying Tom Yam. This is a very spicy soup. There are many restaurants, so you don’t make a mistake when choosing dishes, order seafood (you’ll definitely like it).

Disadvantages of holidays on Koh Kood

Cons: mosquitoes and various insects that become active at night. Creams and ointments may not help. But you will feel protected if you get vaccinated before your trip.

Ko Kood

Kood Island Thailand is the second largest island in the Mu Koh Chang archipelago after Koh Chang and the fourth largest in the Kingdom of Thailand. The island's population is about 1,500 people. There are a total of 6 villages on the island: Klong Hin Dum Village, Klong Chao Village, Ao Yai Village, Salak Aun, Ao Plaow, Ao Salat. Residents of the island, immigrants from Thailand and Cambodia, have been cultivating coconut, hevea (rubber tree) and fishing for centuries.

The landscape of the island is similar to the island of Koh Chang - Mountain landscape, covered with tropical forests. The most high point Ko Kuda - Khao Phaenth hill reaches 315 m and is located in the southeast of the island. The most popular beaches with white sand and crystal water are located in the western part of the island - Ta Phao Beach, Khlong Chao Beach, Thakian Beach, Ao Phrao Beach and others. Not far from Koh Kood are Koh Rat and Koh Mai Si, small islands for those tourists who find the solitude of Kood insufficient.

One of popular places visit to the island, this is a waterfall on Koh Kood - Klong Chao (Klong Chao). The waterfall is not as high as Khlong Phlu or Klong Nueng on Koh Chang island, but no less beautiful. Despite this, the bowl of the waterfall on Ko Kood is also a natural pool, surrounded by tropical jungle and quite suitable for swimming. In 1911, this waterfall was visited by King Rama VI. You can also go see Khao Rua Rub - natural stone ships. One more interesting place There will be ancient trees to visit in the jungle.

Due to the development of infrastructure, roads connect hotels, waterfalls and other tourist spots, although even so far the hotels in the south and north of the island are only accessible by boat. Songthaews appeared on the island quite recently - most of them transport people collectively from boat piers to hotels, while trips between beaches are carried out on an individual basis and for a fee of 200 baht. The largest and most famous fishing village, Ao Salad, is located in the northeast of the island. The village is home to about 300 people, making it the most large settlement to Koh Kood. Here you can always buy fresh seafood, local souvenirs and large shells caught from the bottom of the sea. The oldest settlement is Klong Mad Village, whose residents live by the same crafts as their ancestors did decades ago.

Ko Kood or Ko Mak?

The first thing that catches your eye about the differences between these islands is the landscape. If on Ko Mak you can walk around the island for your own pleasure, then on Ko Kood this is difficult, because the area is hilly and even covered with jungle. Ko Kood is larger than Ko Mak, Ko Kood has more small ones cozy beaches, on which only one hotel can stand. On Koh Mak there are plantations where coconuts and giweya are grown, which you can visit. At the same time, there is no waterfall on Koh Mak like Klong Chao on Koh Kood. So, which of the islands of the archipelago to choose is up to you.

Must-sees include Viewpoint Cafe on Klong Chao Beach, Pizza & Pasta Italian Restaurant on the main road (near Ao Noi Hotel) and Baan Phor Coffee next to the Italian restaurant. Ngam Kho Koh Kood's restaurant serves incomparable Thai dishes and fruit shakes.

Despite the popularity of the island, there is not a bank branch here, there is one ATM, but you should still take care of cash in advance. Fortunately, many hotels accept cards for payment. In the Tinkerbell and Peter Pan hotels you can cash out money from your card for a 5% commission.

A map of Koh Kood island is in the article

Ko Kut (or Koh Kood) is an island in the Gulf of Thailand, which is located near Cambodia. Administratively, it belongs to the province of Trat. Together with Mak Island (which is located to the north) and some uninhabited islets of Amphe, Ko Kut (territorial unit) is the smallest Amphe in Thailand in terms of the number of people living. A little more than 1,700 people live on Kuta. In total, the island has an area of about 130 sq. km. - six villages.
Like the other Amphe islands, Ko Kut is part of the sea national park Moo Ko Chang. The island is about 17 kilometers long and about 7.5 kilometers wide (at its widest point). Mak Island is about 5 kilometers away, and land is about 25 kilometers away.

One can easily declare Ko Kut the most beautiful island in Thailand. He really is just drop dead gorgeous.

Ko Kut is quite a large, mountainous island, its central part largely covered by jungle. Western and South coast dotted with glorious white sand beaches. The waters surrounding the island are crystal clear. I think this is what heaven should look like.

There is an excellent road across the island - from Ao Salad in the north to Ao Yai in the south, so almost all hotels can be reached along this road (although expensive and flat, in general, sometimes quite hilly and broken in places).

Ko Kut is primarily visited mainly by organized tours, although in recent years “individual” tourists have been coming here. To get around the island, rent a motorcycle or bicycle or ride a songthaew (songthaew, a mini-truck), however, exploring the beaches and beauties of the island with this transport is a little more tedious, but believe me, it is worth the effort.

There will be no problems with accommodation on the island. Budget options plenty - look at hotels near Khlong Chao Beach. But, of course, not a beach bungalow for 250 baht. If you still want to live right on the beach, you will have to pay, perhaps a little more, but that's the point - to live on the beach, in this little paradise. Hotels here, in general, are still inexpensive “bedrooms” for tourist groups, although for those who are used to spending more and living in greater comfort, there are very nice places on the island.

Can we recommend the bungalow at the top of the hill, complex "Duplex Bungalows", - amazing value for money, plus a luxurious sea view from the terrace.

Most of the eateries, cafes, bars and shops of interest to tourists are located in the Klong Chao area, but most hotels have their own restaurant, so this should not be a problem. Ko Kut is definitely not a party place. Nightlife not here - although, several places on the island (bars, I mean) are open until late, although there are not very many people there, and, quite likely, you will sit there in splendid isolation. That's not why people come here, though.

Like most neighboring islands, Ko Kut is a seasonal place. And, although many hotels have been open all year round in recent years, most cafes, restaurants and bars are closing. Besides, why go there at this time? The weather may not be pleasant at all; the terrible monsoons from May to October can ruin the whole impression of the paradise island.

During the high season, and especially at Christmas, New Year and Songkran (Thai New Year, celebrated from April 13 to April 19), the island becomes very busy - for these weeks it is better to book a hotel in advance if you do not want to wander around the island from bungalow to bungalow in search of available accommodation.

By the way, as far as I know, there are no ATMs on the island (although you can still pay by card in hotels), so come with cash to avoid getting into trouble.

Internet access via 3G is quite possible, although with some difficulties. Some hotels have free Wi-Fi, but, unfortunately, it often simply does not work there. There is an internet cafe on the north side of Klong Chao at the Tourist Office.

Southern beaches (Ao Jak, Ao Phrao and Khlong Hin) They are primarily popular with Russian tourist groups from Pattaya. And in general, there is a completely different atmosphere there than on other beaches on the island. Many European tourists, by the way, write with horror that “Russians are wandering around there with vodka and cigarettes.” Nothing surprising!

Well, walking around the island is a pleasure: massive jungle, unreal waterfalls (although very weak in April), amazing good beaches and clear sea. You can try massages at hotel spas.

Visit restaurant "Happy days restaurant"- you can try German beer and really good Thai food there. You can go to "Pizza & Pasta restaurant", one kilometer north of Klong Chao. At the restaurant Chiang Mai They serve Thai food in very large plates and it's all very cheap! There is also a very nice restaurant "Bartist" on the way to the waterfalls in the same area and several good restaurants along the Klong Chao River, in principle, in any of them you can try “proper” Thai cuisine. Oh yes, take a look at "The Peter Pan Bar"- a bar with a good atmosphere, calm visitors (apparently Russians don’t go there) and cool music.

"The Tawan Eco Bar"- this is, in general, a breakthrough!
Drinks, food and music are all organized by the owner. If you know how to play a musical instrument, then you'll probably end up sitting down to play with it - that's how cool it is there.

In addition, around the island you can go kayaking and boating, climb mountains, admire waterfalls and lagoons, where you can hide from the sweltering heat.

And, of course, snorkeling and diving – the island definitely boasts underwater landscapes and fish and corals!
And in general, the water here is cleaner than, say, on Chang (and the beaches are also cleaner and better). With the exception of Ngam Kho, this beach is so-so.

And here Bang Bao- perhaps the most best beach.
Spacious, clean, with snow-white sand. There are three hotels on this beach, all quite good. Of these, at the Siam Hotel Beach Resort the beach is the coolest and most comfortable.

Ao Baan Chao (Ao Baan Chao) suitable for people who prefer to use a variety of services during their vacation, and housing is cheaper here. The island's two most famous resorts, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, are also not very expensive.
