We have not announced a specific date yet, we are focusing on the second half of April... We are now testing the terminal, equipment, conducting test flights - how check-in counters and information systems work. When we understand that everything is fine and everything is working well, we will be ready to accept the first passengers.

- How did the new terminal turn out, how will it greet its guests? Tell us about it.

We built a completely unique project for Russia in record time. For the construction of a building with an area of ​​78 thousand square meters. meters it took 22 months. At the same time, the terminal design is quite complex: the building does not have a constant height, it fluctuates from 25 to 30 meters at different points, due to this the effect of an incoming wave is obtained, which is already called the “Crimean wave”. But it's all outside. It was important for us to build the airport so that it would not only be beautiful, but also convenient for passengers, so we paid a lot of attention to internal logistics and details. Convenience and comfort were our priority. I hope we succeeded.

There is a lot of greenery in the terminal. This will probably be one of the greenest terminals in the world. The feature of the terminal is the presence of a green wall, which is the largest indoor wall in Europe. 15 meters high and 110 meters wide - this is a composition of artificial and living plants that are so matched to each other that a complete feeling of unity is created.

- What modern technologies will be used in the new terminal, how innovative will it be?

The terminal contains a lot of technologies that, in principle, have never been used on the peninsula and are not even used in all corners of Russia.

Let's start with the building. It has been implemented automated system building management, or, as it is commonly called in the world, BMS (Building Management System). It completely allows you to control all the engineering components of the new airport complex - light, climate, air exchange, operation of elevators and escalators. From the dispatcher's workplace, you can turn off any light bulb in the terminal, you can configure the air conditioning and ventilation system.

Now is the age of automation, so our terminal has many systems with which the passenger will independently enter into dialogue. That is, he will be able to independently check in for a flight, check in luggage independently, and board independently, which was not the case in the existing terminal.

We are 100% ready to work with electronic boarding passes. As soon as legislation allows, we will introduce this technology. The airport will also have a fully automated sound information system for passengers, which is combined with a visual information system. The new terminal will have about 170 panels where passengers can find out the schedule, rules for transporting baggage and passing control. Chairs in waiting rooms will be equipped with power sockets. And, of course, free Wi-Fi.

The terminal has created a barrier-free environment for people with limited mobility - we have 28 elevators and 18 escalators.

A completely new thing for Crimea is telescopic gangways. They simply were not in the old terminal; they were never used here. Telescopic ladders are made in the most modern design - space ship, there is a lot of lighting. That is, a certain “portal” has been created that sets you up for a pleasant flight.

As for the near future, we are also planning to introduce fully automated boarding gates, without personnel. When designing the new airport complex, this possibility was taken into account from the very beginning.

- How did the sanctions affect the construction of the terminal?

The sanctions, no matter how strange it may sound, were positive. Due to certain limitations, we had to get creative. As it turned out, this was very necessary work both for us and for the state as a whole. Our project was mostly made in Russia. Something had to be done from scratch. The most striking example is the luggage system, it was manufactured in the Moscow region. Before this, for more than 30 years, since the times of the USSR, no one in Russia had produced luggage systems. And today this system can be easily replicated at other Russian airports; moreover, we are no longer tied to Western manufacturers for support and maintenance of this system. It is built according to the most stringent aviation security requirements, that is, we guarantee 100% high-quality inspection of passenger luggage.

- Will luggage loss be excluded?

Simferopol has never been famous for lost luggage. We have one of the lowest percentages in the industry. Now they are not completely excluded, but they will be greatly minimized, because the system controls everything, it can track the passage of baggage in real time.

Who will operate the new terminal with such innovative equipment? Will the number of airport employees increase? Did you have to attract a lot of people from the mainland, taking into account the fact that unique technologies were used?

There will certainly be an increase in the number of personnel. The creation of new jobs will mainly be associated with the operation of the airport terminal building. The area of ​​the new terminal is almost 4 times larger than the existing one, it needs to be maintained. Our operation service has been completely reformatted and virtually created anew, taking into account the new airport complex.

Of course, we have many specialists from the Russian mainland, from other airports, let’s not hide it. We used a lot of international experience here, carried out some mentoring, training, and education. We invest a lot in our staff and their development.

- Will it be expensive to maintain the new terminal?

The high engineering installed in the terminal allows us to minimize costs, therefore, in terms of unit cost, the cost of maintaining the new terminal per square meter will be lower than in the existing one.

- What will happen to the existing terminal?

Several concepts are currently being developed. The program for the development of the transport complex of Crimea has included a project to create a republican bus station on the basis of the existing terminal complex. Colleagues are working on this issue; they are now calculating the flows and financial feasibility of developing this project.

The concept of using the existing terminal for commercial purposes is also being developed - e.g. shopping centers. There is a demand for this, interested parties are present. I would like all this infrastructure to be preserved and working. I think that the current terminal will be in demand in another profile.

- After the opening of the new terminal, will all flights move there at the same time?

Yes. It’s like moving from apartment to apartment: overnight we will have to gather our friendly team, all the technologies, all the equipment and move it. But we are preparing very seriously for this move, I am sure that everything will work out.

- What difficulties might passengers encounter after transferring all flights to the new terminal?

Here I predict one big difficulty, which can be called in one word - habit. Despite the big information campaign, maybe some people will still come to the old terminal out of habit. We have provided for this - mobile transport will operate to protect the passenger. This is the main risk factor, but I don't think it will last long.

As for the new terminal, for the passenger the location and movement around it, I am sure, will be easier and more convenient than in the current one. The terminal has an excellent navigation system; it is made so intuitively and clearly that you don’t have to be a great specialist to understand it all.

Your spring-summer schedule this year has broken a record for the number of destinations - there will be 67 of them. Why did this happen? How much impact did the upcoming commissioning of the new terminal have?

There are a number of factors here. First of all, this is marketing work to attract new carriers. In addition, Crimea itself remains attractive. Many passengers simply want to see the new terminal. It just needs to be done.

- What passenger traffic do you expect in 2018, taking into account the opening of the new terminal?

This year we expect passenger traffic to be at last year's level. The trends are good, the volume of transportation in Russia as a whole is growing. Despite the fact that flights with Turkey have resumed, we do not have a decrease in passenger traffic associated with this factor. This suggests that people have additionally begun to fly to Crimea.

- Is the issue of opening a checkpoint across the state border in the new terminal being considered?

There is still a checkpoint. It is designed for 820 passengers per hour and will be fully equipped with all necessary equipment. We will be ready to put it into operation in the summer; physically, construction work there has been completed. But during the period of absence of international flights, my colleagues and I agreed that it should be operated according to domestic directions. But when deciding to start international traffic, we will be ready to prepare in a matter of days and will be happy to see passengers from any country.

There is great interest in international communication with Crimea. Historically, there were quite a lot of international flights in Crimea: there were flights to Turkey, Germany, and Israel. The demand remains, all these directions are promising, there are passengers, so if there are legal opportunities, I am sure these flights will fly.

- When will the reconstruction of the runway of Simferopol International Airport begin?

I think that in the fall we will begin the reconstruction of the 2,700-meter long runway, which has not been used since 2002. This is not even a reconstruction, but the construction of a new runway. Its length will be increased by 500 meters according to the project. It will be equipped with the most modern equipment, its introduction will be able to eliminate flight delays associated with factors such as fog, which are not uncommon at Simferopol airport.

It is also planned to build a new control tower, perimeter fencing, and install lighting equipment. In total, about 13 billion rubles have been allocated for these purposes.
