Changes in baggage transportation. New rules for free carry-on luggage. Where do our missing suitcases end up?

At the end of 2017, President Putin V.V. a law was signed amending the “General Rules” air transport passengers, baggage, cargo and requirements for servicing passengers, shippers, consignees.” According to the adopted law, Russian airlines are introducing uniform rules for the carriage of baggage on planes, with the exception of Aeroflot's subsidiary Pobeda.

Current!

Let's take a look at what rules are relevant in 2020 for carrying luggage on an airplane.

According to the November law, new baggage allowances allow a bag or suitcase weighing up to 30 kg per piece. Less is allowed, more is not allowed. Each passenger is provided with individual luggage.

Important! The permissible weight of items depends on the ticket category: economy, business or first class. The higher the ticket class, the more options available in terms of baggage capacity.

Separate luggage can be checked in for a child under two years of age. The weight of the bag should not exceed 10 kg.

There is no single global standard for all airlines. It is worth focusing on the country to which the passenger is flying. For example, when traveling to Dubai, items and literary publications of a religious nature, with the exception of Islam, are prohibited from being transported. Also consider the restrictions of each airline individually.

Excess baggage

So, if a passenger has purchased an economy class ticket, he can carry luggage weighing up to 23 kg. For larger cargo, the traveler must pay extra, but some air carriers allow a slight excess without additional payment.

If you know in advance that baggage will fall into the excess baggage category, check the cost of the surcharge with your air carrier.

Baggage over 30 kg – heavy luggage

Carrying baggage on an airplane: new rules equate weight over 30 kg to the heavyweight category. Previously Weight Limit was up to 32 kg.

For such cargo you have to pay extra for each kilogram. There are no uniform tariffs; each company sets the price at its own discretion.

In addition to excess weight, there may be excess dimensions in the sum of three dimensions. Such things include:

  • alpine skis and other large sports equipment;
  • musical instruments, for example, guitar, double bass;
  • household appliances, such as a refrigerator.

To transport such goods, a preliminary agreement with the company is required. Before your flight, contact customer support. On the day of departure, it is better to arrive at the airport in advance, as special cargo will take longer to register.

Some carriers allow ski equipment to be carried free of charge. winter time or dive boards for resorts.

Companies have the right to refuse to transport oversized cargo if the cargo compartments are too small or there is not enough space.

Baggage free ticket

A number of airlines support baggage-free travel. According to it, the passenger flies only with hand luggage. This method has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include the low cost of flights. The negative side is that the tickets are non-refundable.

Consolidated baggage

For couples, traveling families, colleagues and friends there is a luggage consolidation service. You can put all your things in one suitcase, which will be counted as one piece of luggage.

Fragile luggage

When transporting glassware, electronics and decorative items, many passengers worry about the safety of things, because most often at airports suitcases are treated carelessly and thrown into a general dump.

In such situations, the traveler can check in baggage marked “fragile”. To do this, provide information when registering your belongings, and the suitcase will not be allowed through the belt. The loaders will take it to the luggage compartment.

Pay attention! The ability to check in fragile luggage does not guarantee the safety of the passenger's belongings.

Fragile items that meet specifications hand luggage, it’s better to take it into the cabin. The main thing is that things do not contain liquid. You will have to discard jars of jam and compotes by putting them in the luggage compartment.

Hand luggage

What weight of luggage is allowed on the plane? Changes to the air travel law that came into effect in November limited the minimum weight of hand luggage. Previously, it was possible to carry at least 10 kg free of charge for non-refundable and return tickets, now the limit is from 5 kg.

Most carriers allowed you to carry a suitcase weighing 10 kg on board. For transportation to luggage compartment they charged extra.

The new law means that the airline is required to carry at least 5 kg into the cabin, but if desired, the weight can be increased to a greater extent. For example, S7, UTair and Aeroflot announced their intention to maintain the previous norm of 10 kg.

The following rules are currently in effect on the official Aeroflot website:

In addition, the list of free items for carrying on board in addition to hand luggage has undergone changes. We'll talk about them below.

What items can you take into the cabin without checking them in as hand luggage?

According to the old requirements, it was allowed to take the following things into the salon free of charge without weighing, tagging or registration:

  • costume;
  • laptop;
  • video camera;
  • camera;
  • mobile phone;
  • baby food for the duration of the flight in an unlimited flight;
  • baby carrier (folding cradle or folding stroller);
  • books, magazines, newspapers;
  • outerwear;
  • women's handbag;
  • briefcase;
  • a folder with papers and documents;
  • cane;
  • crutches;
  • umbrella;
  • bouquet of flowers.

Now the umbrella, laptop and cell phone are excluded from the list. The Ministry of Transport explained these changes as an opportunity to remove the listed items from the bag.

In addition, the list of free items has been supplemented with a new item - a backpack. The management of Pobeda Airlines confirmed the information that the carriage of backpacks will be allowed if its size fits into the established standards by the company.

For Pobeda, hand luggage restrictions will be 36x30x27, while the minimum ticket price starts from five hundred rubles.

Items allowed in hand luggage and on you

A passenger may wish to keep a number of items with him or her in hand luggage. These include:

  • carbon dioxide cylinders (used to activate artificial limbs);
  • glasses repair tools, including a screwdriver less than 50 mm long;
  • lighter or non-hazardous matches (only with you);
  • pacemaker;
  • other pharmaceutical devices, including those using radioactive isotopes, with lithium batteries. Allowed to be kept only with oneself;
  • robot toy;
  • razors, including disposable ones;
  • eyelash curler;
  • nitroglycerin tablets or spray for treatment;
  • oxygen cylinders for medical purposes;
  • injection needles for a passenger with diabetes or specialized medications.

Actions in case of loss

No one is protected from losing things during air travel. Items go missing while being loaded or loaded into the luggage compartment, or they are accidentally sent on another flight.

In case of loss of personal belongings, follow the instructions:

  1. Make sure you have your baggage receipt on hand;
  2. Contact the missing items department with the form;
  3. Write a statement;

Within three weeks, the carrier chosen by the passenger is obliged to find the items and return them. The parcel is delivered to your home free of charge, and the client does not have to go anywhere or pay anything.

If damaged luggage is returned or missing after three weeks, you can contact the company with a request to compensate for the losses.

If the carrier refuses to compensate for the damage, the citizen has the right to request a written refusal, with which he can go to court for further proceedings.

The Montreal Convention enshrines an international agreement that stipulates the maximum possible compensation for the loss of a bag - 1131 SDR (artificial reserve and payment instrument issued by the IMF). This is approximately $1500.

In practice, the figure depends on the specific carrier. Foreign companies pay on average $20/kg. Large foreign airlines may pay the excess amount according to their internal rules. Russian airlines pay approximately 600₽.

If a passenger has lost luggage while on an international flight, they should apply for a search no later than a week after the date of receipt of the items.

On domestic flights, you are allowed to file a claim within six months from the date of loss.

Standard compensation requires a description of the missing luggage. If you have receipts for lost items, you can present them with the application. Then you should expect a full or partial refund.

Advice! If you are transporting fragile or valuable items, insure them before the flight with declared value by paying an additional fee.

The permissible dimensions and weight of hand luggage on an airplane are limited to certain standards. At the same time, there are no universal parameters for the baggage that a passenger can carry with him in the cabin of the aircraft: the norms mainly depend on the carrier, the paid class of service, as well as the flight distance.

In any case, you will have to find out the permitted weight and size of hand luggage in advance: in order not to pay for excess weight and to avoid the most unpleasant situation - getting rid of excess things just before departure.

Before purchasing tickets, you should carefully study the tariffs of low-cost airlines and offers on new promotional tariffs - this applies to both domestic and foreign airlines. Cheap flights may come with restrictions: no checked or carry-on luggage, or stricter baggage weight requirements.

Hand luggage

Utair has two carry-on baggage allowances:

  1. Standard hand luggage measures 40x30x20 cm and weighs 5 kg. Passengers with tickets of any fare can take it with them.
  2. Large hand luggage 55x40x25 cm and weighing 10 kg. In addition to standard hand luggage, passengers with Premium and Business fares can take it on board.

In addition to hand luggage, a passenger can carry a backpack measuring 40x30x20 cm and weighing no more than 5 kg, or a handbag or briefcase, as well as:

  • Bouquet of flowers.
  • Umbrella cane.
  • Outerwear.
  • Baby food for the child during the flight.
  • Suit in a suitcase.
  • A cradle, restraint devices for children under two years of age, a baby stroller and other devices) when transporting a child, which can be placed in the aircraft cabin on a shelf above the passenger seat or under the seat, with dimensions not exceeding 65x40x20 cm. Children's devices are allowed for transportation only with a child.
  • Medicines, special dietary needs in the amount required for the duration of the flight. Medicines in excess of those required during the flight must be checked in luggage.
  • Crutches, canes, walkers, rollators, folding wheelchairs, which can be placed on a shelf above the passenger seat or under the seat.
  • Items from duty free shops at the airport, packed in one sealed plastic bag, weighing no more than 3 kg.

Passengers with the Minimum and Optimum fares can carry musical instruments measuring 40x30x20. To carry a larger instrument, you can purchase an additional piece of hand luggage up to 55x40x25 in size. Passengers with other fares may carry musical instruments in hand luggage only if they fit within the dimensions of 55x40x25 cm.

If a musical instrument exceeds the dimensions of “large hand luggage” 55*40*25, then it will not be possible to carry it in the cabin.
The only possible option for transporting a musical instrument in the cabin of an aircraft with dimensions exceeding 55*40*25 is to transport the musical instrument in the aircraft cabin on a separate passenger seat. Such transportation is processed at air ticket offices. At the same time, 2 tickets are issued, one per passenger + a ticket for an additional seat for baggage transportation, and the cashier immediately sends a request to the airline for approval.

When boarding, Utair employees can check the size and weight of hand luggage. Dimensions and weight are checked using a measuring frame - hand luggage should fit into it without effort.

If, when landing at the departure airport, it turns out that your hand luggage is larger than the allowed amount, but does not exceed 10 kg and dimensions 55x40x25 cm, you can pay 4,000 ₽ (65 € for foreign flights) and take it with you to the cabin.

Or check it in as baggage and pay 3000 ₽ (50 € for foreign flights). Baggage checked in upon boarding is issued at the airport of arrival in the baggage claim area (with the exception of prams and wheelchairs).

The airline may refuse to transport a passenger's belongings in excess of the norm if there is not enough time to process payment before boarding. As a rule, the payment procedure takes up to 5 minutes.

Baggage

Baggage is placed in the luggage compartment of the aircraft. Passengers with Optimum and Premium fares are entitled to 1 piece of luggage weighing up to 20 kg and up to 203 cm in the sum of 3 dimensions. Business passengers can check in 2 pieces of luggage weighing up to 30 kg with the same dimensions.

Luggage for children. Regardless of the class of service, passengers under 2 years old with a ticket without a seat can take on board 1 piece of hand luggage measuring 40x30x20 cm and weighing up to 5 kg, as well as baby food, a cradle and a stroller (according to FAP standards).

Flying with different airlines

If you are flying with Utair and another airline with a transfer, then baggage and hand luggage allowances may vary.

Read about the other airline's regulations on their website and make sure that your luggage and carry-on luggage comply with them.

Excess and oversized baggage

For an additional fee, you can purchase the opportunity to carry hand luggage or baggage in excess of the allowance included in the fare. The cost varies depending on the moment of payment - before check-in, during check-in or upon boarding. It is more profitable to pay for excess baggage allowance in advance, on the website or in mobile application Utair.

If there are several directions on the ticket, extra luggage is paid separately for each.

Additional hand luggage. You can take on board additional hand luggage measuring 55x40x25 cm and weighing up to 10 kg.

When registering for routes on the territory of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra, a paid piece of hand luggage weighing up to 10 kg with dimensions of 55×40×25 cm for the “Optimum” or “Minimum” tariffs is paid for each kg of actual weight according to the tariffs for excess baggage.

For flights from Moscow to Anadyr and from Anadyr to Moscow, excess baggage can only be purchased at the airport during check-in for the flight.

Up to 10 kg - 4000 ₽
Up to 20 kg - 6000 ₽

The first piece of excess baggage is a piece that is purchased in addition to the baggage allowance.

For transfer flights the cost doubles.

Passengers with the “Minimum” and “Optimum” fares for the transportation of sports equipment need to pay an additional 3000 ₽ (or 50 € on international flights) for 1 set, with a total weight of no more than 20 kg, for each section of the route. At the Optimum fare, you can carry sports equipment free of charge instead of luggage. It is important that the equipment occupies 1 place with dimensions of up to 203 cm in the sum of 3 dimensions and a weight of 20 kg.

Additional baggage for Utair Status program participants

Cardholders of elite levels of the Utair Status loyalty program have privileges in baggage transportation.

With summer comes the time for vacations and therefore many immediately turned their attention to the most famous resorts peace. On at the moment namely the use air transport It is considered the fastest and fairly reliable means of traveling around the globe.

Just think, in just a few hours you can find yourself completely on the other side of the world, without even noticing the flight itself.

However, this method of transportation is subject to its own specific features, so each person, when buying a plane ticket, is obliged to strictly comply with all the rules that the airline has.

One of the main and strict rules is the carriage of luggage.

The rigor of this rule is to ensure the safety of any person on board, and therefore applies to everyone, regardless of their status and purpose of the flight.

In this article you will learn what universal rules are used for carrying baggage and how they differ depending on different airlines.

Basic rules for transporting baggage on an airplane

At the moment, a unified list of rules that every passenger must obey has not been developed throughout the world. However, there are various options, which depend on several factors:

  1. Destination countries - every country in the world has some of its own unique features and features that affect what can be transported into it. For example, since only Islam is preached in Dubai, it is absolutely not allowed to transport other transported items of a religious nature, including crosses, into the territory of this country;
  2. Airline rules - each company has its own rules on baggage transportation, namely the permitted weight. Very often this depends on the cost of the ticket and the chosen class, as well as the aircraft itself. Typically this weight should not exceed 30 kg per person;

To avoid any problems during baggage check-in, it is best to carefully read the existing rules. This is especially true in cases where there is non-standard luggage, such as a pet.

Read very carefully the list of items prohibited for transportation, such as piercing and cutting objects.

The latest changes in the rules for the transportation of baggage in Russia

The threat of terrorism becomes more and more terrible every year, so very often there is a tightening of various standards baggage transportation. Let's consider the new rules for transporting baggage on an airplane in Russia.

At the moment, since 2016, it has become possible to carry only 1 bag as hand luggage.

If before this their number was not counted, now it has become much stricter. However, now the weight of such a bag can reach 10 kg, although this is not documented in writing.

However, the amount of baggage that is checked into the cargo compartment is still not regulated by law, so each company sets its own limits. This made it possible to create so-called “baggage-free” tariffs, which help reduce business people who travel without bulky bags, the cost of the ticket.

At the moment in Russia, the maximum weight of a bag accepted on board is 50 kg, however, to travel with so many things you will have to pay a fair amount.

However, a pleasant moment is that many airlines have now begun to carry the necessary sports equipment completely free of charge, especially for those traveling to ski resorts.

General baggage allowances on board the aircraft

At the moment, all the things that a traveler wants to take with him are divided into 3 parts:

  • personal belongings;
  • baggage;
  • hand luggage.

According to the law, any personal belongings must be carried free of charge. That is why it is better to keep all documents with you, because sometimes luggage gets lost.

However, for all of these types of luggage there are also some general rules, which every airline uses, regardless of the country of flight.

  1. Make sure your bags are intact. There should not be any cuts on the luggage being carried, otherwise during the flight things may be damaged and other luggage may be destroyed;
  2. Be sure to wrap your bag in film. This service can also be used at the airport, but you will have to pay extra for it. However, this will help you keep your bag intact;
  3. Be sure to weigh your bag before the flight and check whether its dimensions and weight comply with the rules of the chosen company, so that later you do not have to pay extra for being overweight;
  4. Carefully read the list of items prohibited for transportation so as not to inadvertently try to cheat them.

Prohibited or restricted items for transportation in the aircraft cabin

Very often, many problems arise with various transported items, which, according to airline rules, should not be in luggage. This is especially true for women who can put their cosmetics and manicure accessories in their hand luggage. All this can be confiscated with great ease.

At the moment, it is strictly prohibited to carry on airplanes:

Of course, the above is not the entire list of items prohibited for transportation, so it is better to discuss all non-standard items with the company in advance.

It also does not discuss items that are not only not prohibited for transportation, but in general are completely illegal, that is, drugs and explosives. A passenger carrying such cargo is immediately removed from the flight and transferred to law enforcement authorities for further investigation.

Airlines also strictly restrict the carriage of certain items, advising them to be taken as carry-on luggage.

Total weight of luggage, rules for transporting hand luggage on an airplane

So, at the moment, any passenger can carry some luggage with him completely free of charge.

Currently, one bag is counted as carry-on luggage, the weight of which should not exceed 10 kg. Of course, a lady's bag or a small men's briefcase does not count as this - these are personal items. In business class, some airlines allow 2 bags with a total weight of 15 kg as an incentive to buy more expensive tickets.

Such hand luggage should not exceed 115 cm in sum of all its sides, however, there is a certain standard - this is 55*20*40. This happened due to the fact that I am currently producing bags of completely non-standard sizes.

It is believed that you can bring a fairly large musical instrument as hand luggage, but you will need to purchase a separate ticket for it.

Of course, we shouldn’t forget about animals. If you are carrying a small enough pet, then you can carry it in the cabin, of course in a special carrier.

The list of hand luggage also includes:

  • laptop and recording equipment;
  • press;
  • customs store products, including alcohol, packed in a bag;
  • chairs and strollers for children under 2 years old;
  • baby food.

You can check in 1 bag free of charge as regular baggage per person. However, you should carefully monitor its weight; if it exceeds the limits, then you will have to divide all things by 2 with an additional charge.

The weight of baggage depends on the class indicated on the ticket. Many airlines have set the maximum for economy class at 20 kg; business allows you to carry an additional 12.

However, the standard size of a bag should not exceed 158 cm on all sides.

Carry-on children's luggage

As a standard, children under two years of age are not entitled to a separate seat. However, it is permissible for such a child to carry additional hand luggage on the plane.

Of course, it should be much smaller than the standard one.

However, they will need to be stored folded on the plane, and they should not interfere with any other passenger at all.

Existing features of transporting liquids in hand luggage and luggage

At the moment, there is a complete list of liquid substances that are allowed for transportation in hand luggage:

  • drinks, water, syrup, soup;
  • lotion, shower gels, shampoo;
  • perfumes and colognes;
  • deodorants and aerosols;
  • toothpaste and cosmetics;
  • shaving foam;
  • other liquid substances.

Each of these jars should not exceed 100 ml, the only exceptions being medicines and baby food, but their total volume should not exceed 1 liter.

They must also be packaged in transparent packaging so that the security officer can inspect everything. Anything that exceeds this amount will be confiscated.

Baby food and medicines do not need to be packed in bags, but the need to have such things with you must be documented.

Also considered an exception are goods purchased at a duty-free store, but they must be packed and not opened until the very end of the flight.

These rules are considered quite universal for everyone, however, there may be some restrictions, depending on the internal rules or the country of arrival. For example, in the USA, bringing any alcohol with you is completely prohibited.

However, all other liquids that do not meet these strict requirements are quite acceptable to carry in luggage, they just must be placed in it in advance.

Carrying medicines on an airplane

A first aid kit is one of the most necessary things on any trip, and this applies not only to those who have chronic diseases. It is better not to be left abroad without emergency funds that will help cure the problem.

However, many countries do not allow the transport into their territory even of those products that are sold in the Russian Federation without any prescriptions. Therefore, sleeping pills, antibiotics, painkillers, and anti-sickness pills may fall into the risk zone.

First of all, it depends on what they contain. large number sufficiently potent substances. That is why it is better to know in advance what medications you can have with you.

At the moment, you are allowed to carry as much money on the plane as you need for your own needs. They must be in the original packaging with a normal expiration date.

Restrictions also apply to liquid medications, especially insulin, which cannot be carried in luggage due to temperature. It requires a special diabetic passport.

So, in order to carry medications with you, you will need to have with you:

  1. A doctor’s prescription, or a doctor’s opinion on the need for this medicine and its dosage;
  2. A receipt for the purchased product to confirm its origin;
  3. Translation of the recipe into English- not obligatory, but a desirable touch.

Passengers who have such boarding prescriptions go through the red corridor to fill out the customs declaration.

Rules of various airlines for the carriage of baggage

Although the general rules for carrying baggage and hand luggage on an airplane are almost the same, some airlines may have some special features:

Victory

At the moment, the airline has established free carriage of hand luggage and large luggage with the following parameters. Hand luggage should not exceed 115 cm in length and a weight of 10 kg. You can buy up to 2 additional seats in the cabin, for each of which you will have to pay up to 2 thousand rubles.

It is also possible to transport animals for an additional fee. Its weight including carrying should not exceed 8 kg.

In the luggage compartment you can carry free weight no more than 10 kg and no more than 158 cm in size. For a fee it can be increased to 20 kg;

S7

Hand luggage of this company should also not exceed 7 kg for economy class in 1 bag and 2 bags weighing no more than 15 kg for business class. The size of the restrictions is also quite standard - 115 cm. You can check in no more than 20 kg for economy class and 30 kg for business class. Children's luggage should not exceed 10 kg.

Aeroflot

The baggage weight limit in economy class of this airline is 23 kg. For the comfort class, two pieces of 23 kg each are provided. The total weight of baggage in business class should not exceed 32 kg for 2 pieces provided. The total sum of the sides of the bag should not be more than 158 cm.

Aeroflot hand luggage has strict dimensions - 55*40*20 cm and weighing no more than 10 kg. For business class - no more than 15 kg;

Ural Airlines

This company has a special promotion - “Wings”, which dramatically affects the amount of luggage. At the moment, an ordinary passenger can carry no more than 32 kg, a passenger with a silver level - 40 kg, and a passenger with a gold level - 45 kg.

The size of hand luggage should also not be more than 1 bag weighing no more than 10 kg;

UTair

As you can see, each company has its own differences in providing luggage transportation services. Each varies depending on the airline and class chosen.

A little more additional information You can learn about the rules for transporting baggage on an airplane from the following video.

How much luggage can you take on a plane? Is it possible to carry alcohol, perfume, aerosols, medicines, cigarettes in luggage? What about food? Let's consider these questions in detail.

There are no international rules for baggage transportation; each air carrier regulates this issue independently. The airline can choose to transport baggage by piece or by weight.

Allowable baggage weight per person on an airplane

The weighing system allows you to transport free of charge:

  • in economy class no more than 20 kilograms of luggage with its total linear size of 203 centimeters;
  • in business class, with the same dimensions, you are allowed to take 30 kilograms with you.

If your baggage does not meet the established standards in at least one parameter, the air carrier has the right to demand additional payment. Under this system, children under ten years of age have the right to transport ten kilograms of things, and from the age of twelve they are already entitled to the adult norm for transporting cargo.

The weight system is convenient because when traveling together, the weight of all things is summed up, and the number of bags is not counted.

The place system is replacing the weigh system, despite its obvious convenience. Aeroflot recently switched to it. Here the transportation rules are as follows:

  • economy class allows you to occupy only one piece of luggage with a bag not heavier than 23 kilograms;
  • in business class the conditions are softer: two pieces of luggage weighing no more than 32 kilograms each.

The main difference between the baggage system is that the weight of the baggage is not cumulative. For example, on a flight for two in economy class, passengers carry two items weighing 15 and 25 kilograms. The extra two kilos will be counted as a third piece of baggage and will be paid in full. When planning your luggage before traveling, keep in mind that such overload is paid at a high rate, comparable to the price of a ticket. Therefore, you should carefully calculate the weight of things.

The requirements for the maximum allowable size of baggage in the local system are even stricter: the total linear size of the item is no more than 158 centimeters.

Rules for transporting food, alcohol and cigarettes on an airplane

Alcohol is not on the list of goods prohibited from being carried on an airplane, but there are still certain rules for it. Thus, every adult passenger has the right to carry one liter of alcoholic beverages in hand luggage, regardless of their strength. The entire quantity is divided into several containers of no more than 100 milliliters each. All bottles are packaged in a plastic bag with a zipper. It is prohibited to use them on board: the packaging must not be broken until the end of the flight. Breaking the rules can cause trouble.

Carrying alcohol in luggage is regulated by the following rules:

  • liquids no stronger than 24% are carried without restrictions, but without going beyond the general weight restrictions;
  • alcohol with a strength of 24 to 70%, no more than five liters per passenger;
  • Alcohol over 70% alcohol is prohibited for transportation.

Alcoholic drinks purchased before the flight in duty-free stores are allowed to be transported in hand luggage, but in an intact package with a saved receipt. In low-cost airlines, you will most likely have to pay for transporting a package of alcohol from a duty-free store.

IN different countries The rules for transporting strong drinks can vary greatly, so before an international flight, inquire about this issue separately.

The same recommendations apply to the question of the rules for transporting cigarettes. However, each country sets its own standards, which you should follow before flying. For example, when flying within the Russian Federation, only one cigarette pack (10 packs of 20 cigarettes), up to 250 grams of tobacco or no more than 50 cigars can be carried in hand luggage. In this case, the passenger must be 18 years old. Other countries have different age restrictions. For example, in Egypt, a 15-year-old passenger can easily carry tobacco products with him, but only those who are already 20 years old can fly to Japan with cigarettes.

As for medicines, it is allowed to carry drugs in solid form (capsules, powders, tablets) in hand luggage. Liquid medications, as well as ointments, creams and gels must be in original containers of up to 100 ml, and then packaged in a bag (necessarily transparent) measuring 20x20 centimeters.

When transporting prescription drugs or drugs containing psychotropic/narcotic substances, you will need to present a doctor's prescription, and to carry out international flight Such drugs also need to be declared. An exception is made for passengers with insulin-dependent diabetes: insulin bottles, syringes and glucometers are allowed to be carried in hand luggage.

By the way, for international flights there is a list of drugs prohibited for transportation, and you should familiarize yourself with it before departure. For example, when flying to the USA, you will not be able to take the Corvalol, which is familiar in Russia, on board.

On domestic flights, you can take solid food into the cabin if it fits in your hand luggage and does not exceed the weight. On international lines follow the rules of the countries you are traveling to. They usually prohibit the transportation of eggs, fish, meat and dairy products. The ban is due to the fact that these products are perishable and can cause an infectious disease and even an epidemic.

The transportation of liquid products is regulated separately. These include, in addition to water and juices, canned food, jam, jelly, honey, sour cream, cottage cheese, and sauces.

Most air carriers regulate the carriage of liquids and limit them to one liter per passenger, poured into hermetically sealed bottles with a capacity of no more than one hundred milliliters. All other liquids, including cosmetics, deodorants, colognes, perfumes, mosquito sprays and shampoos, are checked in as baggage according to the new rules.

What is prohibited from being carried on a plane in luggage in 2020?

There are dangerous items that are prohibited from being carried both in hand luggage and in the luggage compartment. These include:

  • weapons: cold steel, firearms, gas, stun guns;
  • explosives: dynamite, cartridges, pyrotechnics;
  • gases: liquefied, compressed in cylinders, aerosols;
  • flammable liquids: petroleum products, acetone, solvents;
  • solid flammable substances: matches, metal potassium, calcium, sodium;
  • poisonous and toxic: nicotine, arsenic, mercury;
  • caustic and causing rapid corrosion: salts, acids, lime.

This list also includes magnetized and radioactive substances.

The list of prohibited substances and items under the new rules is extensive. If you are planning to bring an unusual item on the plane, read this list in advance or consult with an airline representative. Compliance with these simple rules guarantees the safety of all passengers and the absence of problems during baggage inspection.

What to do if prohibited items are found in your luggage or baggage

Passengers often carry “prohibited” goods, not doing so intentionally, but simply without thoroughly knowing the flight rules. If airport security staff found prohibited items in your hand luggage or luggage, but you don’t want to lose them, the situation should be resolved in the following ways.

  1. If you find prohibited items before check-in: give them to mourners, put them in a storage room, or send them by mail (there is a branch at every airport) to the right place.
  2. If prohibited items are found after the check-in procedure, the airline staff will offer a couple of options to resolve the misunderstanding: complete confiscation of the “prohibited” items or temporary seizure with the opportunity to pick up the items after return. Make sure that a document is drawn up for things that are valuable to you, but are prohibited from being carried, according to which you can get them back.

In any case, try to prove to the security service that this item is dear to you - there is always a chance that the Security Service officers will meet you halfway.
