– one of the main attractions of Thailand, the main attraction of the same name national park.

Named after the three-headed elephant Eravana, on which the god Indra (the Hindu lord of the rains, the thunderer - an analogue of the ancient Greek Zeus) rides. They say that an elephant's head can be seen in the outline of the seventh tier of the waterfall.

The road is decorated with fancy elephants made from branches.

The map of the park will help you navigate.

There are two roads leading to the waterfall itself: the first is a pedestrian one,

the second is for small electric vehicles. For 20 baht the visitor will be transported “with a breeze”.

There are benches along the road for those waiting for cars.

Seven-tiered waterfall

Erawan Waterfall is huge! Seven-tiered! The height from the first to the seventh tier is 831 meters. The riverbed stretches along the trail for 1700 meters. From the story, I understood that out of the seven tiers, only the lower four were ennobled. However, they say that there are tiers higher, but security does not allow people to go there - it is unsafe.

The path to the upper levels follows paths, in some places there are rocky areas.

The first tier is mainly intended for collective recreation.

There are special sun loungers and tables.

The nature is extraordinary, especially for the European eye.

In some places it is in its original form.

There are neat paths along the waterfall.

Each tier is equipped with a toilet.

In Thailand, in toilets, outside resort area for foreigners, there is no toilet paper and no toilets as usual. Next to the toilet or genoa bowl (also known as a floor-standing toilet) there is a container with water (a bucket, tank, or a concrete bowl lined with tiles) - there is a ladle in it.

Smoking in in public places prohibited; there are specially equipped areas for this.

Relaxation at the waterfall

Vacationers at the Erawan waterfall - darkness. Visiting tourists come in for an incursion - they bring you to have a look for an hour or two. And the locals come here in earnest.

Bathing.

With kids.

They bathe in clothes.

The head of a cow can be seen in the outline of a stone on the waterfall

And foreigners are in swimsuits.

You can get to the second tier of Erawan through a checkpoint.

You are allowed to take only a bottle of water in a plastic container with you; everything else must be left in the storage room. I had nothing with me, and I passed without any obstacles.

And there is a bowl of fish, for some reason they are called carp.

The stone near the waterfall resembles the head of a hippopotamus, doesn't it?

Everyone tries to capture this beauty in their own way.

And the beauty is here!

There is one path for the ascent, another for the descent.

I rise and admire.

People sit and admire the beauty.

Having fun under the waterfall.

Naturally, I also got into the water with the fish. They tickle so much. Bite off dead skin. A kind of peeling. The guys coming out of the water reported that the fish are larger in deeper waters, and the nipping is not at all ticklish. And somehow I didn’t want to climb any further. And the mountain water is cool...

After going back down from the Erawan waterfall, I went by electric car. We drove past a sign saying “Watch out for cobras!” I was glad that I didn’t see such a sign on the way up.

I walked around the local market.

It was here that Milya discovered a huge variety of euphorbias.

Opening (visiting) hours. It is clear that the waterfall always works. But the entrance is only open from 8:00 to 16:30. You are not allowed into the third level after 16:00 – you simply won’t have time to return before dark.

Peculiarities. Above the second level it is prohibited to bring food. You can bring water, leaving 20 baht as a deposit. When leaving, present an empty (or not so empty) bottle and the money will be returned in full. This was done to prevent littering. It would be a good idea to introduce such a practice at natural attractions in Russia, don’t you think?

Clear azure sea, hot beaches, unusually beautiful nature - all these characteristics apply to the wonderful country called Thailand. This place will literally captivate you green islands, seething waterfalls cascading down the slopes of rocks. Of course, tourists here have places to go and things to look at.

Slopes and waterfalls in Erawan National Park in Thailand

One of such wonderful places can rightfully be considered National Park Erawan, the twelfth in Thailand. Its founding date falls on 1975, and it occupies total area 550 square meters. An extraordinary place is located in the north-west of Kanchanaburi province in mountainous area, it is completely covered with highlands and exotic jungles. Imagine: the plains and jungles cover a total area of approximately 500 km2!

Throughout the park, the height of the mountains is about 1 thousand meters. IN summer time The weather is hot and muggy, so staying here will not be as comfortable, and between November and February it gets a little cooler. The rainy season here is from May to October. At this time, Erawan Park is overcome by powerful thunderstorm fronts from the northwestern and southeastern sides.

Information sign at the entrance to the park

Evergreen forests cover 81% of the entire park area. The remaining 19% is occupied by bamboo and dipterocarptic dry forests.

To the east of the park rises a majestic mountain range, the limestone peaks of which sometimes rise 1000 meters. It is they who create a powerful barrier from the hated monsoon from the east. It is for this reason that there is sufficient rainfall here. IN mountain ranges seething river flows begin their journey.

For example, rivers such as Omtala and Mong Lai merge from the east of the park. On the southern side of the park, the unique Khao Pang river flows its way, which forms the majestic Khao Pang waterfall.

Erawan National Park is home to a variety of animals and flora. Birds, mammals, and reptiles live here. You can be considered truly lucky if during your trip you manage to meet a flying squirrel, gibbon, hare, elephant, or wild boar.

Detailed map of Erawan National Park

In addition, here you can admire white-eyed eagles, pheasants, peacocks, Sambhar deer, and tigers. If possible, you should avoid encounters with snakes or wear hard, high-top shoes to protect yourself from snakes: Asian rock python, king cobra and ribbon krait. Animal world Erawana boasts colorful fish, insects, and crabs that can be seen in the lake.

How to get to the park

Most easy way to get to the reserve is to take a bus coming from the city of Kanchanaburi. They run very frequently approximately once an hour from 08:00 to 16:00. The ticket price ranges from 48-50 Baht. But often people get to the park when they book the famous excursion to the River Kwai in travel agencies Pattaya and Bangkok.

Tourists here admire the mesmerizing view of the waterfall and very often take photographs in these picturesque places.

Requirements for visiting the park

Electric cars for national park visitors

A ticket for adult foreigners will cost 200 baht, while children under 14 years old will have to pay only 100 baht, but children under 3 years old have free admission.

The delightful park is open from 8:00 to 16:30 - this is on the first level. And climbing above the second level is allowed after 4 pm.

Where to stay

When visiting a national park, be sure that you will definitely not be left without housing. Tourists are offered to rent a tent or their own house. The price for camping with your own tent is 30 baht per night per person.

But you can take water with you, provided that when you return you bring an empty bottle back, since the Thais love order in everything and will not tolerate litter.

If you want to visit the second level, then you will have to give twenty baht as a deposit, which will be returned to you when you provide the bottle. Under no circumstances should you drink alcoholic beverages in the park. In this picturesque place you can have a tasty and inexpensive meal in the usual cafe number 5.

What's interesting in the park?

Monkey

Erawan National Park is especially famous for the fact that it is home to monkeys. The most common of them are two species of Crab-Eating Macaque, as well as Rhesus Macaque. These animals are perfectly adapted to aquatic life, so they swim simply superbly. The main source of food for monkeys is scraps left by passing people. Feeding macaques on their own is under no circumstances allowed, as they are by nature extremely dangerous and annoying animals.
Monkeys are quite clever at stealing other people's things and even taking them away. One moment, and your phone or camera is in the hands of an agile monkey. It also happens that an impudent animal grabs bags and clothes. If there is a nimble monkey in your immediate vicinity, try to drive it away with a stone or a slingshot. Otherwise, you will have to be on guard all the time and keep an eye on your things.

Fish

The Thai fish Pla Pluang, one of the varieties of carp, is considered a natural healer. After you dive into the water, the doctor fish begins to perform rejuvenating procedures on your skin, which in terms of effectiveness can never be compared with those in the salon.

The small fish destroys dead skin from the skin. The Thais say it is very good for health. But you should not be afraid of harmless fish, as they will only bring benefits to your body. Please note that if there are wounds on the skin, it is better to seal them, otherwise a huge wound awaits you!

Trekking paths

The perimeter of the reserve is landscaped with comfortable asphalt paths. The most accessible of them starts from the second level and leads to bus stop. On the way you can see monitor lizards, spider holes, and various tropical birds.

Trail number 2 starts between the fourth and fifth levels. Please note that it is very easy to lose sight of her. At first, bamboo forests dominate, then a steep mountain begins with a long, drawn-out climb over pebbles. Erawan National Park is also landscaped with a third trail, which starts between the third and fourth levels. Walking along the trails will seem too exciting to you;

Bathing

Swimming and sunbathing on golden Thai beaches - what could be better?! You can plunge into the azure transparent waters of the ocean, receiving a surge of vivacity and a lot of positive emotions!
The last level of the Erawan waterfall is marked by the frequent presence of European nudists there. For swimming, the most popular levels are considered to be from the second to the fifth inclusive. On the second level, showers and toilets for changing clothes will be provided at your service.

Staying in the park is not limited to just swimming; you can walk through the forest, explore local attractions, and enjoy an exciting journey through the cave.

Photo of Erawan Falls - the main trophy of tourists who visited Thai province Kanchanaburi or who have been on an excursion from Pattaya to the River Kwai. This stunning emerald waterfall consists of 7 levels, and each of them is beautiful in its own way. We climbed to the very top and today we will show you photos of all seven levels of Erawan! And you can decide for yourself: is it worth climbing to the seventh level or devoting more time to other, no less picturesque cascades?

Spoiler: the most beautiful level is not the seventh 😉

Photos of Erawan Falls in Thailand: it’s better to see once

As already mentioned, Erawan Falls consists of seven levels. Therefore, we will also divide our article today into seven parts. Each of them will be dedicated to one of the levels of the Erawan waterfall - let's “go through” them in order, from the first to the seventh. We will show you breathtaking (and there are no others in nature) photos of Erawan Falls and tell you a little about what is remarkable about each of its levels.

So, let's start climbing! Or rather, admire)) Minimum words, maximum photo of Erawan waterfall - one of the most beautiful in Thailand.

Level 1, introductory

The first level of Erawan Falls is the lowest in every sense of the word. Not only because it is located at the foot of the waterfall: the water here falls (if such a strong word is applicable) from a very small height. At other levels the height of the cascades is much greater. But nevertheless, the water here is also a beautiful emerald color, and the roots of centuries-old trees sticking out here and there only thicken the atmosphere of mystery before moving to higher levels. And the first level is the noisiest: here you will definitely meet groups of Thais sitting on mats who value Erawan only as a nice backdrop for gatherings. So let’s quickly admire it and move on.

Photo of Erawan Falls, Thailand. The first level is completed!

If this is the least scenic level, then what lies ahead?

Level 2: the widest and most beautiful

Yes, friends, the most interesting thing awaits us just 170 meters from the first level! This is where the widest and most picturesque cascade is, this is where there are the most tourists, this is where the biting fish are, and this is where the best fish come from. beautiful photos Erawan waterfall. That's it, you don't have to go any further.

Erawan's second level is his business card. In most photos of Erawan Falls it is this one that shows off.

Do you still think that you will be alone at Erawan Falls? Then we are all coming to you!

Level 3: Most useful

They say it's useful. Well, it's when fish bite you and bite off dead pieces of skin. At the resorts they charge money for this, but here, as soon as you put your foot (arm, head) into the water on the third level of Erawan, you will be attacked completely free of charge by a crowd of fish who dream of exfoliating you. It hurts a little, but health requires sacrifice. I suffered for ten minutes and saved a hundred baht.

By the way, the distance from the second to the third level of the Erawan waterfall is only 50 meters.

The third level of Erawan Waterfall, where an unforgettable fish peeling awaits you! And it’s also beautiful here.

Level 4: Do you like to ride?

The fourth level of Erawan is located 300 meters from the second. It is notable for the fact that here the water does not fall down, but smoothly descends along two smooth stones. And not only water: sliding from these stones is a favorite pastime of both Thai children and tourists.

The fourth level of the Erawan waterfall is located exactly half a kilometer from the first.

Level 5: calmest

On the fifth level of Erawan, as on the second, there is a calm backwater. At the same time, there are no high cascades and much fewer people, because from the fourth level to here there are as many as 600 meters, and from the beginning of the waterfall - 1.1 km! Therefore, if you have reached the fifth level, here you can relax and swim calmly. Some tourists even manage to bring water mattresses here - there is no more suitable place to swim while enjoying stunning views of nature on Erawan.

A kingdom of calm and relaxation.

Best photos of Erawan waterfall, level 5: it's time to relax before the final forced march to the very top!

Level 6: weakest

I don’t know about anyone, but we were least impressed by Erawan’s sixth level. The water here flows over the stones, somewhat reminiscent of the boulders on level 4. Only the stones are higher, and the flow of water is weaker than on the fourth. And where does so much water come from at lower levels? However, they say that after the rains the sixth level becomes much more full-flowing and spectacular.

The distance from the fifth to the sixth level of Erawan is 300 meters.

Erawan's sixth level is not the most impressive. But there are only a hundred meters left to the top!

Level 7: Coolest

Well, here we are at our goal! Behind us is a kilometer and a half uphill and dozens, or even hundreds, of tourists who, for various reasons, did not climb to the top to present themselves with a medal for endurance. On the seventh level of Erawan, water falls from the mountains in a not particularly wide, but stormy and loud stream, in the noise of which the applause of the brave climbers can clearly be heard. Unlike its predecessor, level 7 is quite impressive and the photos here turn out beautiful. However, a photo of Erawan Falls in its very high point- the main and only goal of tourists who spared no effort and climbed to the seventh level. After completing this task, do not waste time and go down to the fifth or second level to cool down after the forced march to the top. Everest conquered! That is, Erawan.

The waterfall itself is located in Erawan National Park, which was formed in 1975. In addition to the waterfall of the same name, it is home to several lesser-known waterfalls, caves (including those with rock paintings), the coast of the River Kwai, impenetrable jungle inhabited by exotic animals and rare birds, and even the Sri Nakarin Dam. To make it more convenient for tourists to explore all the cascades of the waterfall, a paved path has been laid along the river, with a concrete surface up to the fifth cascade.

The path to the fifth cascade is being built and filled with concrete

Walk through Erawan Park

The trail stretches along the stream 1700 meters up the hill, and the elevation gain when climbing to the seventh cascade of the waterfall is about 250 meters. The walk to the seventh cascade of the Erawan waterfall is quite comfortable, the road passes in the shade of trees, and will take about an hour and a half one way. But on a hot day it’s quite difficult to walk, so it’s best to go to the very top as early as possible, before the air warms up so much.

Laying tiles with natural patterns

It is best to plan a visit to the waterfall early in the morning. It is worth arriving here before nine o'clock, before the national park is filled with crowds of tourists arriving on large buses starting at 10 o'clock. Morning is also good because at this time the monkeys that live along the waterfall in large quantities. Sometimes, when they want to eat or just have fun, they pester tourists, so watch your things, they might suddenly attract the attention of clever hooligans!

Cascades of Erawan waterfall

Information about all seven cascades is presented at the information board at the beginning of the trail.

1 cascade– Lai Kuen Rung (or Hlaikeunlung, there are different signs with the name), located at a distance of 20 meters

2 cascade– Wang Macha, located at a distance of 170 meters

3 cascade– Pha Nam Tok, located at a distance of 220 meters

4 cascade– Oke Nang Phee Sue, located at a distance of 520 meters

5 cascade– Bue Mae Long, located at a distance of 1120 meters

6 cascade– Dong Pruk Sa, located at a distance of 1420 meters

7 cascade– Phu Pha Erawan, located at a distance of 1520 meters

The first two cascades are beautiful rapids on a mountain stream, and around them there are areas for recreation and picnics. Thais love to come here on vacation, bring food and drinks with them for a picnic, take best places and leisurely while away the hot day in the shade of trees, periodically taking water treatments.

Thais take the best seats in the morning and continue to sleep

Co. second cascade There is a wide path, the climb along which is not difficult at all. Although some particularly picky visitors are taken to the second stage in an electric car for a fee.

The first cascade is quite picturesque, and here you can do best photos a multi-stage cascade of rapids on a stream, provided there is good lighting and a small number of visitors, that is, in the morning

Part of the first cascade

It's nice to walk barefoot here

Trees are incredibly rooted in rocks from which water falls

Look what beautiful view opens from here! It’s not for nothing that Erawan Falls is considered the most interesting in Thailand, and tourists from Pattaya and Phuket come here. Water falls from a height of about 10 meters into a huge bowl in the rock, suitable for swimming.

Wonderful view of the second cascade of Erawan

In the bowl under the waterfall live Pla Pluang, or Tor Soro Cuvier & Valeciennes. These fish stick to the skin like sticks and scrape off the dead layer. It's called fish fish peeling(Fish Piling). In beauty salons, very small fish are used for these purposes, of another species - Garra Rufa, or doctor fish from the carp family, they are about the size of a finger. And here they are completely different, larger, up to 30 centimeters in length.

Thais feed fish with their feet. Do you want to try it too?

Massage with these fish is very exotic and extreme; it is simply impossible to spend a long time in their company; it becomes both a little painful and ticklish. And swimming with them is even more fun. But if you want to swim to the waterfall itself, then you will have to take a risk and test yourself, it is not so scary, but quite unusual. The most important thing is not to sit in one place, otherwise quite large fish will attack you in a school and it will be quite ticklish!

Depository, here you need to leave a deposit for the bottles. So they take care not to litter

Here you will be marked with your plastic drink bottles, and for each bottle you will be asked to leave a deposit of 20 baht, which will be returned to you on the way back if you present the marked bottle. So pretty unusual service we met only in Erawan Park and nowhere else.

Labeled bottle, priced at 20 baht

Bamboo grows along the slope along which you climb up. Some who like to leave a mark on history are taking advantage of the moment: in addition to the traditional “Anna and Roma,” there are “Hurray, Chita” and “Nakhodka.” Do not do this under any circumstances, this is a national park, a protected area. And even though there are no patrols and rangers here, as in US national parks, you still need to take care of nature.

Folk art in Erawan Park does not make our compatriots look good

Third cascade also has a bathing bowl. But she is not very big and not very attractive. But peeling fish are also found here.

Cascade number three usually passes by

If you really want a good bath, go straight to level four.

Here on fourth level usually the most tourists. Most of them stop here, since to the next cascade you have to walk another half a kilometer up the stairs and just along the paths. Therefore, many stay here and wait for their companions, and also leisurely continue to get acquainted with Erawan Park. There is a really large and comfortable swimming pool here, and the shady forest provides good protection from the hot sun.

The most popular place the park is actually very beautiful

Path on fifth cascade becomes quite steep, it is encased in concrete to make it more comfortable to walk. And if you decide to go further, be sure to check your stock drinking water, since the climb can be quite tiring, and then your walk through Erawan Park may take longer. The longest transition to the fifth cascade

When you finally reach Erawan Falls on fifth cascade, You will be amazed by the color of the azure water, from which emerge two large stones, well smoothed by the water, and called “Big Balls” because of their shape. It looks very similar. You can climb on them from the side and slide down like water slide.

Erawan Waterfall is a landmark of Erawan National Park.

It is divided into seven levels of water fall, the length of which is more than 1500 meters. The waterfall has a beautiful emerald hue of water, and the area is surrounded by tropical forest, in which you can see varieties of wild orchids and rare species of trees. In order to get to the waterfall, you need to follow the path leading to the sixth level of Erawan waterfall, from where, by climbing the cliff, you can get to the seventh level.

The climb up the rock is difficult, but the sight of the water falling from a great height, forming swimming pools, is worth all the effort. Erawan Falls got its name from its resemblance to the three-headed elephant named Erawan, who existed in Hindu mythology.

Erawan Waterfall

Erawan Falls is located in the national park of the same name. It is interesting that it was the park that got its name thanks to the waterfall, and not vice versa, as is usually the case.

The 831-meter-high waterfall is a 7-level cascade resembling the shape of the mythical Hindu elephant Erawan - hence the name of the waterfall. The water collecting in the pool is a magnificent turquoise color. There are fish swimming in it, doing real peeling – removing dead particles from the skin. The area near the first cascades is the most crowded. It is prohibited to bring food or drink beyond the first level. The third cascade features a large pool into which water falls from a 10-meter height. The fourth waterfall flows from two boulders and you can slide down them like a water slide. The climb becomes more difficult towards the fifth and sixth cascades, and the seventh can only be reached by a steep bamboo staircase. Those brave enough to make it to the top will be rewarded with stunning views of the magnificent surroundings.
