What to see on Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

With the growing popularity of Phu Quoc Island every year, more and more good hotels and ways to have fun. Fukuoka has a large safari zoo, world-class golf courses, a large amusement park and some stunning beaches. Many people ask “Phu Quoc or Nha Trang, which is better?” I don’t have a definite answer to this question. Phu Quoc is much more calm resort than Nha Trang, but the prices here are a little higher. Nha Trang is more popular, Russian tourists discovered Phu Quoc relatively recently, and it still looks like exotic island not trampled by tourists.

Fukuoka offers ocean, land and air excursions, as well as scuba diving and hiking, watching exotic bird species, trekking and fishing.

Phu Quoc combines natural beauty and tranquility, the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam and very tasty cuisine. In this article we will figure out what to see on Phu Quoc Island (Vietnam).

15 things to do in Fukuoka

Let me make a reservation right away that you can take excursions in Phu Quoc (Vietnam) at local tourist information centers - this is not a problem. I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t provide you with a link to a website where you can see prices for excursions in Fukuoka online. All the places listed in this article can be visited on your own.

Below you see a map of Fukuoka with attractions in Russian, which I wrote about in the article. In the top left corner of the map you will see a button that looks like a tablet or monitor - click it and a map legend will open with all the places I mentioned in the article.

Relax on local beaches

In Fukuoka you will find some of the most beautiful beaches Vietnam. Palm trees, azure sea and snow-white sand in the best traditions of Bounty advertising. This is one of the few places in Vietnam where you can see the sun setting over the ocean. The most beautiful and famous beaches of Fukuoka: Long Beach, Sao Beach, Khem Beach, Thom Beach, and Vung Bau Beach. If you can, try to visit them all.

In the north of the island between Vung Bau and Ganh Dau beaches you will find a park entertainment Vinpearlyounger brother the famous Vinpearl Park near Nha Trang. This is your local Disneyland - partly entertainment center, partly trade area and partly a hotel. This park is located on one of the most beautiful coasts of Fukuoka.

Another beach worthy of attention-Cua Can. It is interesting to see the nearby villages, take a ride along the river of the same name and take a walk through the local forest. You can also go fishing with the locals.

In my opinion, riding in the north of the island is the most interesting, but you can choose your own route and pretend to be a pioneer.

I would advise you to go to Phu Quoc National Park (Công Viên Quốc Gia Phú Quốc). It's nice to ride along the red clay roads, admiring the ocean on one side and the forest on the other. There is a crocodile farm nearby.

Hire a boat and go fishing

One of the fun things to do in Fukuoka is to hire a fisherman with a boat and go fishing. Half of the pleasure will come from the opportunity to bargain, and the other half from the opportunity to see rare places where tourists practically never wander, but local residents we are very familiar with them.

In my opinion best places for fishing: An Thoi, Duong Dong River, Cua Can and Vung Bau beaches.

You especially can’t go wrong in An Thoi – there are fishing boats constantly running to the small neighboring islands and you can easily negotiate with any fisherman.

Explore a national park

Fukuoka National Park covers about a third of the island. This option is perfect for those who like to walk a lot and discover everything mysterious and wild. There are several basic popular trails in the park, but you can choose your own route. The main thing is to prepare well. The park is home to macaques, langurs, otters, loris, bats and hornbills.

If you are not confident in your ability to navigate the jungle, then it is better to buy a tour from one of the local travel agencies, because... Many of the paths here are not very clearly marked and there is a high chance of getting lost. And Phu Quoc is a large island, about 500 square kilometers.

Explore the underwater world with a mask - snorkeling

What else to do in Phu Quoc (Vietnam) other than immerse yourself in the warm waters of the ocean? Snorkeling is a leisure activity accessible to any person without age restrictions who can confidently float on the water independently or at least with a vest. The peculiarity of Fukuoka is that you don’t need to swim far to see the beautiful underwater world with colorful fish and corals.

You can rent a diving mask at popular beaches: Long Beach, Ganh Dau Beach, and Sao Beach, and swim here.

Or go diving

Every year, scuba diving becomes an increasingly popular activity in Fukuoka. The reason is simple: the ability to see and touch underwater world in warm clear water low prices with friendly guides.

Anyone can try themselves in diving. The most popular dive site is the shallow waters near the islets of the An Thoi archipelago in the south of the island. Where I suggested you go fishing.

Beginners will be delighted by the beautiful coral life under the cover of the water and swimming in the company of colorful reef fish. If you've never scuba dived, Phu Quoc is a great place to do it for the first time. I'm serious!

The best metas for diving (I write in English and Vietnamese to make it easier to find on Google maps):

In the north of the island:

Turtle island (Đảo Rùa)

Fingernail island (Hòn Móng Tay)

On South:

May Rut (Hòn May Rut)

Hon Thom (Hòn Thơm)

Dam Ngoai (Dâm Ngoài) West

Dam Ngoai (Dâm Ngoài) South

Roi (Rỏi) East

Roi (Rỏi) South

And further a few lesser known spots, but no less beautiful Hon Doi (Hòn Dơi), Da Chong (Đá Chồng), Ngoc Trai (Ngọc Trai), Ky Lan (Kỳ Lân).

Swim in Da Ban Waterfall (suối Đá Bàn)

What else to see on Phu Quoc Island? Da Ban Waterfall is located 16 km from the main city of the island - Duong Dong, right in the middle of Phu Quoc Island. This is very a nice place and here you can swim in the cool water. Oh joy! Because the sea is always warm.

Of course, you don't have to swim. Just climb up the rocks and listen to the music of the forest: the singing of birds, the murmur of water. Catch a couple of fish and immediately fry them in the next cave, and you can also collect fresh fruit.

Go to Dinh Cau Night Market

© runnerone / flickr.com / CC BY 2.0

The Dinh Cau market is called the night market because only at 17:00 Vo Thi Sau street is closed to cars and it turns into a pedestrian street. At this time, the sellers take out their counters and work begins. Fukuoka Night Market has a lot to offer. Many people ask what to eat in Fukuoka. The answer is: there is a lot of delicious food here, such as grilled seafood, crab soup, boiled squid and snails, grilled meat and other Vietnamese dishes. If you want to eat fresh seafood, come early, by 19:00 the market is very crowded and you will have to stand in lines.

In addition to food, the market sells souvenirs and handicrafts. Here you can easily find the answer to the question “What to bring from Fukuoka?” Many bring shells or dried crabs or starfish, medicinal Vietnamese tinctures, hats, and pearls. You can safely take pictures of whatever you want, it is allowed.

When you come to the market, sellers will be calling you, do not approach any, but first walk down the street back and forth to choose the place you like best. Many sellers at the market are friendly, but there are also aggressive ones who will start shouting and threatening if refused, why would you spoil your mood?

Prices in the markets are always inflated, especially for foreigners. Keep in mind that you can always bargain in Vietnam.

At the market you can buy fresh fish and seafood in bulk. Some of them are still alive, floating in special containers, and some are lying on ice.

As in any market in Vietnam, there are many small child beggars. Whether you give them money or not is up to you.

Take a ride on the water

Water sports are still new to Fukuoka. The island recently began accepting tourists. And so far water surface only rare specimens cross on water skis, sailing yacht or kayak. Basically all entertainment is provided on the main beach of the island, Long Beach.

Have a picnic at Suoi Tranh Waterfall

At first glance, Phu Quoc Island is not rich in attractions, but this is not so. There will definitely be enough excursions and entertainment for you during a short two-week holiday in Vietnam.

Mostly those who live here permanently talk about boredom. Still would. The main city of Duon Dong is small and everyone has known each other for a long time. Just like they know the whole island, because they have traveled it far and wide over the years of residence.

It’s a completely different matter for a tourist who comes to Phu Quoc for the first time for two weeks. In addition to amazing nature, unusual food and tropical pleasure with the flavor of a Vietnamese village, all roads and the entire island with its surroundings are open to them. In addition, there are excursions outside the island, but let's take a closer look.

Excursions outside of Fukuoka

Excursions from Fukuoka to Cambodia are very popular, prices start from $300 per person to Sihanoukville or to the Angora temples. Be sure to consult about obtaining a Vietnamese multiple entry visa. Trips to the mainland of Vietnam to the nearest cities, as well as Hanoi and Ho Chi Chi. Almost all programs are individual, the cost depends on the number of people, so contact us for details, in any way convenient for you.

What are the attractions in Fukuoka? What to see, where to go and what to do in Fukuoka? What excursions are there? We tell you what attractions to see in Fukuoka on your own, in addition to beaches and farms with markets.

Phu Quoc is not rich in attractions. This is understandable, because just a few decades ago the island was one big prison. The island still has many decades to develop. Let us be grateful for what we already have. Let's look at what we have.

Fukuoka Attractions: 11 Places to Visit on Your Own

What to see in Fukuoka? Minimum program - beaches, coconut prison, waterfall and Vinpearl water park. Read more about all the interesting places on the island below. By the way, you can get to all the attractions on your own by bike or by purchasing an excursion. Another option is to rent a car, but only with a driver, because if you don’t have a Vietnamese license, no one will rent you a car, these are the rules.

More could be added to this list bee farm and wine tasting. But it’s so uninteresting that we can’t even advise you. A Bee farm is just a store where they will show you empty honeycombs from afar, and then start selling you honey. The wine tasting consists of 3 glasses of questionable wine, which are given to you with such a face as if they are doing the greatest favor, and then everything is standard - an overpriced store.

Where can I order a transfer from the airport?

We use the service - KiwiTaxi
We ordered a taxi online and paid by card. We were met at the airport with a sign with our name on it. We were taken to the hotel in a comfortable car. You've already talked about your experience In this article

Excursions in Fukuoka

Are you interested in what excursions there are in Fukuoka? Since there is nothing special to see on the island, there are few excursions and they are not very diverse. This is either a sightseeing tour of the island, or fishing, or snorkeling/diving. We photographed a brochure with excursions from one of the Russians travel agencies. Prices are current for the 2017 season.

Bottom line

You can see for yourself that the attractions in Fukuoka are not the most diverse and interesting, there are few of them and almost all of them are mediocre. Over the years, more attractions and entertainment will be built in Fukuoka for tourists. The island is now actively developing. In 20 years it will be unrecognizable; Vietnam is investing a lot of money in the development of this region.

So, for now, choose the most interesting for yourself. I think 3-5 days is more than enough to see the sights of Fukuoka. Waterfalls, a prison, pepper plantations, sauce and pearl factories, as well as Bai Sao beach can be seen in 1 day at sightseeing tour or by hiring a taxi for the whole day. We recommend setting aside a full day for the Vinpearl water park. Take another day to visit the night market in Duong Dong town.

Where to stay on the island, which hotel to choose so that the sea is good and close to attractions? We recommend Long Beach. If you look at the map - the area that is from the city of Duong Dong and down to the airport. We wrote more about housing on the island in the article -. Read an interesting article with options that you yourself went through.

If you know any other interesting places on the island that are not described in this article, then write about them in the comments!
