What is interesting on the island of Phu Quoc. Phu Quoc Vietnam. Sights and excursions, what to see on your own, recreation and entertainment. Winpearl Safari Wildlife Park

The name of the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc is written in Russian in one word. However, in the local language the name of the island is indicated by two words - Phu Quoc. Translated from Vietnamese, it means "Rich Land" or, in this particular case, "Rich Island".

The participants of the information tour conducted by Vietnam Airlines were fully convinced of the legitimacy of these words. Of course, there are no gold mines here and no oil rigs are visible either. The island is rich in original, interesting, unusual and unique natural and man-made tourist sites that you will not see anywhere else.

Besides have a wonderful holiday in comfortable hotels "Vinpearl Phu Quoc Resort" and "Vinpearl Phu Quoc Resort & Golf" brand "Vinpearl" - a chain of hotels and resort properties owned by "Vingroup", in Phu Quoc you can find many more things to do if just lying on the beach and sipping cocktails gets boring. Fortunately, the size of the island is not very large and to any place that deserves your attention, you will need to cover a distance of no more than 40 kilometers.

For those who decide to relax on the island and consider themselves quite active people. For those who are interested, in addition to a traditional beach holiday, they can also get acquainted with the culture and historical monuments of the host country. For them, we are publishing a list of what, from our point of view, will be interesting and educational to visit while vacationing in Fukuoka.

“You who enter, abandon your hopes” - according to Dante, these are the words written on the gates of Hell. Of course, these words could be written on the gates of the “Coconut Prison” - a concentration camp located on the island of Phu Quoc during the war between the North and South of Vietnam.

“Coconut Prison” is perhaps one of the main and interesting attractions on the island. Hundreds, maybe thousands of tourists visit it every day.

The museum itself is a completely restored concentration camp, with all the infrastructure.

A visit to a kennel for breeding local dogs will be another exciting activity that you can arrange for yourself while relaxing on Phu Quoc Island.

On the island they breed dogs of the local breed - the hunting dog of Phu Quoc Island. Although these dogs are also used as service dogs. Its main distinguishing feature is the presence of a ridge - a furrow of fur on the back, growing opposite to the direction of growth of the rest of the dog's fur.

Fish sauce plant

What Phu Quoc Island is especially proud of is its famous fish sauce. This is such a valuable product for the Vietnamese that its export from the island to foreigners is prohibited. By visiting the factory where it is made, you will be able to feel the flavor of island life. By the way, one of the factories is located directly opposite the Coconut Prison.

In fact, there is nothing complicated in the production of the main delicacy of Phu Quoc Island. Small anchovy fish are washed with salt and placed in layers in huge wooden barrels. Next, the fermentation process begins, and speaking in Russian, the fish simply begins to rot. The rotting products sink to the bottom of the barrel and flow out of it through the hole made, further collecting in special containers. The smell is appropriate; for an unprepared person it is simply unbearable.

Actually this is the sauce itself. Afterwards it is simply packaged without adding any other impurities. You can try it and buy it right there in the store. The taste, by the way, is not bad.

Museum of Local Lore

Another attraction of Phu Quoc Island that deserves attention is the Local History Museum.

Of course, this museum is not as large-scale as similar museums in Russia. Everything is explained simply. Firstly, there are not so many rare things in Vietnam. Apparently, due to the fact that the population historically was not very rich and everything that was more or less useful in the economy was put into use. The second reason is that when leaving Vietnam, the French colonialists tried to take away everything that was of historical and cultural value. And, apparently, they succeeded.

However, something remains and is now preserved in Museum of Local Lore. This museum is private, and was created with the money of one local businessman, whose name, unfortunately, was not given to us. Maybe he is so modest that he himself does not want this.

The museum displays samples of the island's flora and fauna, preserved antiquities, and ceramics.

Holidays on the sea or ocean coast are wonderful, it’s hard to argue with that. But sometimes you want to change your surroundings without stopping your vacation as such. This is especially true for our fellow citizens. Tourists from Russia, not accustomed to a hot climate and high solar activity, very often, usually on the third or fourth day of rest, begin to experience fatigue from an excess of sun. At such moments you no longer want to lie on the beach, but just sitting with a book in your room is also not an option.

If you are vacationing on the island of Phu Quoc, then you will be spared this problem. On the island there is natural Park"Suoi Tran" or "Suoi Chan" as the Vietnamese call it. This park is perfect for spending one day actively, but away from the sun - in the shady jungle.

Pepper plantation

Pepper is an agricultural crop for which conditions in Fukuoka are more than suitable for cultivation. Therefore, it is not surprising to see such a large number of pepper farms on the island.

Do not deny yourself the pleasure and visit one of these farms. In addition to the fact that you will see how pepper grows, and pepper plantations are very similar to hop plantations, you will also be able to purchase pepper for your home use or as gifts for friends and acquaintances. And it is of excellent quality here.

For those who decide to travel to Phu Quoc, we remind you that the best way to do this is with Vietnam Airlines. The airline operates regular flights:

Climatic conditions, best time to travel

Phu Quoc, whose attractions and excursions provide an introduction to unusual nature, is gaining great popularity among tourists. The island is characterized by a mild climate - this is due to the mountain range, which protects against the penetration of cold winds.

The air temperature throughout the year stays at +290C – +310C, the water in the sea is constantly within the range of +260C – +280C.

Tour operators advise coming to the island in the winter months - comfortable air temperatures with little precipitation will allow you to have a good vacation. But from December to April the cost of tours increases significantly, especially during the New Year holidays.

Phu Quoc Vietnam, temperature by month.

From May to June the air warms up to +320C - +370C, and it rarely rains. During this period, the holiday is slightly spoiled by the intense heat and the presence of jellyfish in the sea; the sea also warms up to maximum temperatures. From July to October the rainy season begins. Precipitation can fall for 14 days in a row, so there is a risk of not swimming in the sea, but of spending the entire vacation in a hotel.

This is one of the rarest natural museums, where you can see the rarest representatives of birds, animals, fish and plants. The territory of the park is under government protection from the intervention of local rangers and is constantly breeding.

There are several endangered species here. Therefore, the authorities are creating a safe zone within the park for the development of a valuable ecosystem. Tourists are invited to dive into the waters of the park and observe the underwater life of valuable fish species, corals, algae and other molluscs.

In the mountains you can enjoy the singing of birds and the scent of wild flowers. Here they organize hikes into the mountains or forest, where you can go fishing with a fishing rod. Here you can cook the caught fish on the fire and eat it, which will allow you to experience all the delights wild holiday.

Video about Phu Quoc Island

Vietnam, Phu Quoc island, its attractions:

North of Phu Quoc Island

In addition to the already described amusement park Vinpearl Land, where people go free buses, in the north of the island you can see only a few places:

  • Beach with starfish (more about the beaches below)
  • Private zoo
  • Northernmost point overlooking Cambodia
  • Crocodile farm

Northern excursions also include attractions of the central part of Fukuoka: waterfalls, a reservoir, a dog kennel, pepper and myrtle factories, an authentic fishing village. All these points have long been on Google maps and are available to independent trips, for example, on a motorbike.

The normal price for a trip by car with a Russian guide is approximately $150 - $175 depending on the chosen route and the size of the car

South of Phu Quoc Island

Sights of the south can be seen just above on the traffic map excursion bus. If for some reason the bus is not suitable for you, then you can take a motorcycle excursion or book a car excursion with a Russian guide. Very often such excursions include cable car— the car takes you to the cable car, then the guide gives you time for the trip, while he waits in the car or, if desired, can also ride along the road for a fee. Such tours usually cost from $130 to $150 excluding the cable car ticket.

My opinion from worthy places in the south of the island, pay attention to:

  • Episode Beach and Golden Sand Beach
  • Pagoda
  • Bai Sao or Paradise Beach
  • Sui Tran Waterfall
  • Cable car

Everything else is a waste of time, and when visiting a coconut prison, it’s also a waste of a good mood.

Beaches of Phu Quoc Island

The beaches of Fukuoka Island are varied and worth visiting, some of them are practically untouched, while on others there are already expensive private hotels, blocking the passage. Don’t forget that in Vietnam, as in most countries, a strip of land 50 meters from the water is public territory and no one has the right to kick you out of it. But remember that go to public place, you can’t go through the private territory of the hotel either.

So, if a particularly zealous security guard (these have been spotted near Marriott, Episode and Bamboo Beach) tries to kick you off the beach, suggest calling the police and sorting it out according to the law.

Boat trips

Boat trips in Fukuoka are not many things that you cannot organize on your own. That is, in any case you will have to contact one of travel agencies. You, of course, can come to the port and try to negotiate with the captain, but as a rule, a Vietnamese negotiator will jump out and give you a price that is several times higher than what you could get from a Vietnamese agency. Therefore, it is better to immediately contact the agency, the main thing is to look at the approximate price level.

So, what does Phu Quoc Island offer?

A trip on a double-decker ship

There are different types of trips on comfortable double-deck boats. The average price of an economy option with lunch is $17. For this money, you will be picked up at the hotel, brought to the port and put on a ship, where in addition to you there will be about 50 other people. Much more comfortable trips cost $30 per person. On such trips, the same boats accommodate only 12-15 Russian-speaking people, accompanied by a Russian-speaking guide. Renting the entire boat will cost an average of $300-350.

During your trips you will visit several islands (3-4 islands depending on the price) and a couple of oral reefs, depending on the chosen direction north or south. The program also includes swimming or snorkeling in cleanest waters near the islands, Vietnamese fishing and of course lunch on the ship.

This trip takes a whole day and is suitable for families with children.

Ride on a speed boat

Speedboat is a high-speed boat or speedboat. A very interesting type of transport that allows you not to waste time on a slow walk along the sea, but immediately brings you to the place of interest. Typically, speedboat excursions include more islands and visits. interesting places- longer swimming, longer snorkeling. Lunch of your choice either on one of the islands or on a floating village.

Average prices for a speed boat:

  • group trip for a group of 6 to 15 people without lunch - 45 dollars per person
  • group trip with lunch $55 per person
  • personal excursion from $300 per boat, without lunch

Transfer from and to the hotel within the city is always included in the price

Exclusive excursions for professionals and amateurs

It remains to talk about a couple of classes that I didn’t want to attend personally, but quite a few extreme sports enthusiasts come to Phu Quoc. when going on such excursions, do not forget to check your insurance policy to ensure that it includes such risks, or immediately buy insurance from a trusted company with risks included active sports and driving a motorcycle.

However, insurance can often be ordered additionally. But more on that below.

Diving on Phu Quoc Island

For example, the most popular dive center in Fukuoka - Tortuga provides customer insurance. The main thing is to notify the manager of your desire in advance. The cost of trial dives averages $40-60. Full dives $80 for two dives.

In addition, in Fukuoka you can undergo NDL and PADI diving training and certification. The cost of training depends on the chosen certification system and is approximately $320-370.

Sea fishing for big fish

Another pleasure not for the faint of heart is sea fishing for big fish. Several kilograms of fish are actually caught. But to do this you have to get up before dawn and be at sea by 6 o’clock. Spring is the biggest fish flow. Fishing is carried out using live squid, so you can catch very interesting fish samples.

You need to understand that this type of fishing is not an easy task. For those who usually get motion sickness at sea or on an airplane, it is better to avoid such fishing in Fukuoka if you do not want to lie flat. In addition, such pleasure is not cheap - about 400 dollars for a boat for up to 4 people and 50 dollars for each additional person.

Motorcycle tours and trekking

The last thing I want to talk about is an off-road motorcycle excursion on an endurance bike. And also about hiking on Phu Quoc Island. Both the first and second options are quite dangerous and require preparation. To travel on a bike, I strongly recommend not only having an international license category A, but also having experience driving a motorbike over rough terrain.

Hiking is interesting for its views, but do not forget that the walk takes place in a real jungle. This means there is a risk of encountering dangerous insects, snakes, and spiders. In addition, mosquitoes, carriers of various diseases, are found in the jungle. So, you won’t be able to have a joyride in flip-flops and shorts.

Summing up what you can see in Fukuoka

In my opinion, the following types of recreation and entertainment in Fukuoka deserve attention, on which you can spend several days of your vacation:

  • cable car – 1 day
  • Winpearl and safari - 1-2 days
  • Boat trip – 1 day
  • Sightseeing tour to the north and south of Fukuoka 1-2 days
  • Perhaps diving or fishing, who likes what?

Thus, at least half of your vacation will be devoted to various trips and you simply will never be bored. Have a nice holiday in Fukuoka. If you have any questions, don’t forget to add to our chats on social networks.

Until recently, the quiet Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc, excursions to which rarely attracted tourists, was a sleepy place covered with emerald jungle. But at some point he snow-white beaches have become very popular among Western tourists, as well as among those who prefer to spend cold winters in tropical regions.

general information

This island, called Phu Quoc in English, is located in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand. It belongs to Vietnam. With a length of 50 km, it is considered the most big island in the country. It is located just 15 km south of Cambodia. By the way, the island is still the subject of a territorial dispute between states. But this does not affect tourists.

The island had a very dark reputation. For 20 years, the largest Vietnamese prison was located here. In the early 1970s, tens of thousands of prisoners of war were held here.

However, during the war, many troubles occurred throughout the country. Soon after, the island was captured by the Khmer Rouge. The city was plundered. This happened in 1975. Vietnam has since recaptured Phu Quoc Island. Although relations between him and Cambodia are not currently experiencing better times, for many decades the island has led a quiet life. Tourists are not in danger.

Most of the territory is occupied by a national park. In recent years, tourism here has been developing rapidly. Looking at new hotels, gambling establishments, golf courses and new international Airport, it’s hard to believe that there is a dense virgin jungle very close by.

This is why Phu Quoc attracts tourists. Many people like to relax in places where they can admire wild nature without losing touch with civilization. The island has enough entertainment for every taste and budget:

  • athletes will be interested in golf, kayaking and diving;
  • exotic lovers can go on excursions to farms;
  • those who like passive relaxation can simply sunbathe on the beach and attend massage sessions.

If tourists go to Phu Quoc for new experiences, then they are guaranteed to get them. Here you can visit a farm and see how black pepper is grown and try local fish sauce.

You can arrange a trip to night market Fukuoka: This is a true gastronomic paradise. There are more than 50 cafes and restaurants here. At this place you can try any tropical fruits(they're even sliced and boxed) and seafood, including barracuda and tiger prawns. Connoisseurs recommend getting acquainted with the local dessert - fried ice cream. You can even watch how it is prepared.

As souvenirs from here you can bring spices (the same black pepper), natural pearls grown on the island and various ointments of Vietnamese medicine.

Climate and weather

Tourists are interested in whether there are tsunamis and natural disasters in this region. This is logical if you remember what troubles befell Japan and Thailand in their time. However, so far similar disasters wasn't here.

It is believed that the best time to go to the island is in the middle of winter. At this time it is not too hot here, the weather is dry, the sea is calm. January is a great time to vacation in this place. average temperature during the day it reaches +30°С, and at night it drops to +21°С. It's about the same here in December weather. At the end of winter and beginning of spring, the temperature and humidity begin to rise.

As practice shows, tourists are most confused by the rainy season. On the island it lasts from May to November. However greatest number precipitation falls from July to October. Routes to the island

Russian tourists have only two route options - either from Moscow or from St. Petersburg. Only from these cities there are direct flights to Vietnam. At the same time, it is easier to fly through Moscow. There is a flight to Phu Quoc with just one transfer in Ho Chi Minh City. The flight departs from Domodedovo. There is a second option - departure from Sheremetyevo. The transfer in this case takes place in Hanoi and is much more expensive.

There is also a more difficult road when you have to fly with two transfers, for example, through the UAE and Vietnamese cities. You should check flight schedules and ticket prices in advance.

As for St. Petersburg, there is only one way to get to Fukuoka - with two transfers. The total travel time will be about 18 hours.

Travelers who simply booked a tour to Vietnam will find it easy to get to Phu Quoc: they can use the ferry service.
