In fact, there is nothing complicated in the production of the main delicacy of Phu Quoc Island. Small anchovy fish are washed with salt and placed in layers in huge wooden barrels. Next, the fermentation process begins, and speaking in Russian, the fish simply begins to rot. The rotting products sink to the bottom of the barrel and flow out of it through the hole made, further collecting in special containers. The smell is appropriate; for an unprepared person it is simply unbearable.

Actually this is the sauce itself. Afterwards it is simply packaged without adding any other impurities. You can try it and buy it right there in the store. The taste, by the way, is not bad.

Museum of Local Lore

Another attraction of Phu Quoc Island that deserves attention is the Local History Museum.

Of course, this museum is not as large-scale as similar museums in Russia. Everything is explained simply. Firstly, there are not so many rare things in Vietnam. Apparently, due to the fact that the population historically was not very rich and everything that was more or less useful in the economy was put into use. The second reason is that when leaving Vietnam, the French colonialists tried to take away everything that was of historical and cultural value. And, apparently, they succeeded.

However, something remains and is now preserved in Museum of Local Lore. This museum is private, and was created with the money of one local businessman, whose name, unfortunately, was not given to us. Maybe he is so modest that he himself does not want this.

The museum displays samples of the island's flora and fauna, preserved antiquities, and ceramics.

Holidays on the sea or ocean coast are wonderful, it’s hard to argue with that. But sometimes you want to change your surroundings without stopping your vacation as such. This is especially true for our fellow citizens. You, of course, can come to the port and try to negotiate with the captain, but as a rule, a Vietnamese negotiator will jump out and give you a price that is several times higher than what you could get from a Vietnamese agency. Therefore, it is better to immediately contact the agency, the main thing is to look at the approximate price level.

So, what does Phu Quoc Island offer?

A trip on a double-decker ship

There are different types of trips on comfortable double-deck boats. The average price of an economy option with lunch is $17. For this money, you will be picked up at the hotel, brought to the port and put on a ship, where in addition to you there will be about 50 other people. Much more comfortable trips cost $30 per person. On such trips, the same boats accommodate only 12-15 Russian-speaking people, accompanied by a Russian-speaking guide. Renting the entire boat will cost an average of $300-350.

During your trips you will visit several islands (3-4 islands depending on the price) and a couple of oral reefs, depending on the chosen direction north or south. The program also includes swimming or snorkeling in cleanest waters near the islands, Vietnamese fishing and of course lunch on the ship.

The last thing I want to talk about is an off-road motorcycle excursion on an endurance bike. And also about hiking on Phu Quoc Island. To travel on a bike, I strongly recommend not only having an international license category A, but also having experience driving a motorbike over rough terrain.

Hiking is interesting for its views, but do not forget that the walk takes place in a real jungle. This means there is a risk of encountering dangerous insects, snakes, and spiders. In addition, mosquitoes, carriers of various diseases, are found in the jungle. So, you won’t be able to have a joyride in flip-flops and shorts.
