Where is Krabi on the map of Thailand: province, resort

Krabi is not only one of the seventy-seven provinces of Thailand, but also the city of the same name– administrative and tourist center this very province.
On the map of Thailand, Krabi is located in the south of the country on the coast of the Andaman Sea, just opposite the island of Phuket, and is considered one of the most beautiful provinces of the country.

Krabi is not an island, as is commonly believed by some tour operators. The province, or rather most of it, is located on the mainland (peninsula) of Indochina. And its second part consists of islands.
On land, Krabi borders the provinces of Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani and Phang Nga. And the island part includes such islands as: Koh Phi Phi (Phi Phi Don, Phi Phi Ley), Koh Lanta, Koh Bambu, Koh Poda and others.

This resort place was discovered in 1980 by lovers of long hikes, and until 1999, Krabi was considered a secluded paradise, untouched by industry. Now it is one of the most popular tourist destinations.
The most visited tourist spot is Ao Nang Bay - it has everything you need for have a nice rest: beautiful sandy beaches, inexpensive housing and all kinds of travel services.

The name Krabi (emphasis on the last syllable) comes from a Thai word that means a certain type of ritual weapon, similar to a sword, and has nothing to do with crabs, despite the name. This is a common misconception!

Weather

Like all tropical countries, Thailand is subject to the influence of monsoons. And since Krabi is a direct part of it, the weather at this resort is divided into seasons: hot, cool and rainy season.
The cool season consists of the winter months, when the air temperature at night drops to a quite comfortable +23°C. At this time, the rains are not so heavy, or even short-lived, so you can enjoy relaxing holiday by the sea.

High tourist season in Krabi lasts from November to March. During this period, long-awaited coolness comes after the hot months: April, May and June, when the temperature rises to +33°C and it becomes difficult to breathe due to dry air and calmness.
Despite the abundance of rainfall, it is summer all year round in Krabi. The temperature remains at a relatively high level of +30...+31°C, and the water in the sea warms up to +29°C and remains this way for all twelve months.
But due to the changeability of the weather, it is not always possible to guess when is the best time to go to Krabi. Therefore, it is better to check the weather reports in advance before your trip and be prepared for anything.

How to get there

Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Russia to Krabi. Therefore, you can get to this resort from Phuket and Bangkok airports.
The fastest way to get to Krabi is from Phuket. Between these two regions of Thailand there are only 160 kilometers, while between Bangkok and the provincial center of Krabi Town - 650 kilometers by air and 800 kilometers highways.
Regular bus- the simplest and affordable way moving from Phuket. This will take no more than four hours of travel.
The second way is ferry service. There is only one caveat here: the transfer takes place on a tourist ferry with a mandatory visit picturesque islands Phi Phi. It will take much longer, but you will be able to admire one of the most beautiful sights in Thailand.
You can, of course, rent a private boat and get to Krabi in three hours, but this will cost an order of magnitude more.

From Bangkok to Krabi you can get the most different ways: by plane, by train, by public bus, taxi or rented car.
Of course, the fastest and most popular way is air travel. But it is quite expensive, which is a significant disadvantage. And you'll have to use it domestic airport, which will still need to be reached by taxi or public transport. But this is fully compensated by the low time cost - only 1 hour 20 minutes, compared to the same bus service, where the travel time takes about 12-12.5 hours.

Only a very wealthy tourist can afford a taxi or a rented car, and it is also a very long journey, and not every taxi driver agrees to make such a long and expensive journey.
There is also no direct train connection between Bangkok and Krabi. You will have to change trains in Surat Thani or Trang in order to use the services afterwards public transport or taxi to get to Krabi town. Travel time by train is about 11 hours, but it should be remembered that train delays often occur in Thailand, so the time may increase by three hours.
From all this it follows that the best way to get from Bangkok to Krabi is by plane.

What to see

Krabi has amazingly beautiful and picturesque natural landscapes: azure sea and snow-white sand, virgin forests and breathtaking cliffs rising straight from the water.
And also this Amazing places which are definitely worth a visit.
Perhaps the most popular and visited attraction in Krabi is the Tiger Temple and Cave, which is located 13 km away north of the city. The Temple itself is an amazing complex of Buddhism with all kinds of religious symbols and Buddha statues, and with observation deck The temple offers a magnificent view of the entire province and its surroundings. But the most interesting thing is that getting to the observation deck is not so easy, because there are 1237 steps leading to it! But those who overcome such a difficult path will be rewarded with impressions that will remain for a long time! For those who cannot climb up, the Tiger Cave awaits, located at the foot of the cliff. Inside there are sculptures of tigers and panthers, you can make a wish and toss a coin.

Continuing our acquaintance with picturesque nature Krabi, you can visit national park Khao Phanombencha, on the territory of which you can see caves with cliffs and waterfalls; climb the mountain and spend the night in a bungalow or in a tent. Walking through the park can take a whole day, but the impressions will remain for a long time!
You can't pass by blue lake and emerald pool, as well as hot springs.
Blue lake with pure water, whose bottom is covered with minerals, which is why the reservoir has such a rich and unusual color, is located on the territory Khao Park PraBang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary. There is also an emerald pool with a color that lives up to its name. The diameter of the reservoir is small, only 20-25 meters, but this place is attractive because, unlike the blue lake, you can swim here.
And hot springs are famous for their beneficial healing properties and relaxing effect.
Also be sure to visit the elephant farm! It’s not for nothing that in Thailand this animal is considered a symbol. At the elephant farm you can ride on the back of this amazing and largest land animal. The walk will be enjoyed not only by adults, but also by children!
And, of course, one of the most memorable attractions of Krabi is Railay Island, which is famous for its beauty with snow-white beaches. Be sure to visit it and, believe me, you will not be disappointed!

In Krabi, on Ao Nang beach, a lot of photos.

Krabi is a province located in the south of Thailand off the coast of the Adaman Sea. The capital of the region is the city of the same name Krabi. Unfortunately, there is quite a lot of false information on the Internet, one of them is that Krabi is an island, know that this is not true, it is a province and a city located on the mainland.

The town itself is relatively small and, as it seemed to me, very calm, there are almost no foreigners living here long time. On weekends the streets are very quiet, there are practically no cars. As local residents told me, this is because these days people go on vacation to the islands, Phi Phi, Koh Lanta or the nearest beaches of Ao Nang or Railay. The city itself seemed uninteresting to me; living or vacationing here simply makes no sense. Therefore, I went to Ao Nang beach.

The road from Krabi town to the Beach takes about 40 minutes, the price for a motorbike taxi is 80-100 baht, as agreed, for a large tuk-tuk (as in the photo below) about 40 baht per person (from the port on Phi Phi).

There is also a tuk-tuk driving around the city, which will take you to Ao Nang for about 20 baht, but I didn’t know where to look for it, since I was already lost and the best solution for me was a motorbike taxi.

Ao Nang District- This tourist place, so there are enough people here, both locals and visitors. Ao Nang turned out to be a very compact place, which you can get around in 2 hours visiting all the streets.

Along the main streets there are shops, cafes, restaurants, as well as massage parlors and excursion bureaus.

Prices here are slightly higher than in Pattaya, for almost everything: massage, food, motorbike rental.

For example:

  • Prices start from 350 baht, although you can find it for 250 baht. In one of the salons I decided to try a local massage and was very disappointed, it was simply terrible, I don’t remember the name of the salon.
  • The price for renting a motorbike starts from 250 baht per day(machine).
  • Price per hotel room 550 baht.
  • Food on the streets from 70 baht per dish, in a cafe around 250 baht for one.

I tried the local street food in makashnitsa, which is prepared by a father and son on their motorcycle, photo below.

What’s noteworthy is that they have a menu in English, as well as photos of Thai dishes.

Since sometimes there is a queue, you have to wait until there is space at the counter attached to the motorbike. And here is my dish Pad Grapao Kgun.

As I already said, this entire structure is completely attached to the motorcycle, I have never seen anything like this in Pattaya.

Almost everything closes around 00:00, but a few establishments are open - a bar/cafe with live music and a few shops.

What I also really liked were the local taxis, they look like this:

There is almost no prostitution, bars or discos here, so there are a lot of foreigners with families, as well as young backpackers.

You've got a rough idea of the area, let's now talk about the sea and the beach.

Photo of the sea and beach of Ao Nang

The sea here is Adaman, but unfortunately not azure (July, August).

As you can see, the sea near the shore is not azure at all, it’s cloudy, apparently it’s not the season. But despite this, the nature here is amazing.

They say that best time visiting Krabi is from November to February.

Closer to the rocks, you can see many wild monkeys.

I'll come closer to them.

Very close.

It turns out they are quite arrogant here, they almost took my backpack and room keys!

IMPORTANT! Do not feed, touch or show your teeth to monkeys.

But the woman was less fortunate; they took her corn and umbrella...

If you go a little further, you can see monkeys swimming, fighting and just sitting and waiting for passersby.

After bending the rock along the path, you will find yourself on the territory of the Centara Hotel.

As soon as you cross the path, a checkpoint will appear in front of you, where you need to enter your data and time of entry into the territory, and mark the exit when leaving.

Unfortunately, here too the sea turned out to be very muddy and wavy.

Food is delivered by sea, since there is simply no road to the hotel, it is located between the rocks.

Upon returning back, bending the rock along the path, I was met by monkeys, it looked like they were waiting for gifts...

Back at Ao Nang beach it started to rain...

To be continued…
