Punta Ala is equipped with a yacht port, a private golf course, and huge villas are hidden from prying eyes. Located in pine parks, along the main street has expensive boutiques. Cozy cafes near the pier where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in silence beautiful view. Unfortunately, this resort cannot boast of anything else remarkable.

The same cannot be said about its competitor, Castiglione della. There are many architectural monuments in this prestigious place. Medieval castle, For example. The main street is often lively and crowded in the evenings gathers on the port embankment. Restaurants, boutiques, bars are open until late. The beaches at Punta Ali and Castiglione della are the cleanest and most luxurious.

VIAREGGIO is another town on the Versilia coast. The shops on its territory are full of a variety of clothes from top Italian brands. Shopping here is at a high level. But, in addition, those who like to enjoy viewing monuments will find something to do by visiting unusual museum satyrs and marble warehouse, enjoy the views of Villa Puccini. The theater is located nearby open air. It will not do without clean beaches.

SAN VINCENZO is a resort on the coast of Livorno, one of the most popular. You can take a promenade along the main street, where there are dozens of shops, cafes and restaurants. Holiday houses have 2-3 floors. IN summer months the city is rich in a variety of events organized especially for the sake of guests - outdoor concerts, “White Nights” and other show programs. Great for relaxing with a group of young people. There are many parties in San Vincenzo with dancing and fashionable DJ music; local Italians are happy to welcome their guests.

CASTIGLONCELLO is a lovely spot on the Tuscan coast near Livorno. The resort was once famous as the home of the legendary Dolce Vita - the Sicilian mafia. The main part of leisure time for tourists takes place on the square or in the Cala dei Medici boutique. Nevertheless, choosing this city does not promise boredom. Italians often come here on weekends to relax, and sometimes bikers also gather for a cultural pastime. . Local flavor is guaranteed to you. L The summer theater traditionally stages its atmospheric performances for residents and tourists.

In the evenings, life does not stop in this resort. Restaurants by the sea welcome guests, young people can have active fun in disco bars, and older people can enjoy a walk along the embankment. Unfortunately, there are few beaches here. Quite narrow strips by the sea are available, but they are free. Larger complexes are available for a fee. There is an opportunity to snorkel.

Separately, the island of Elbe should be noted. It contains about a hundred beaches! Moreover, there is a place here both for families with children, for whom Fetovaia, Lacona and La Biodola will be affordable, as well as for professional divers and solo travelers.

2. Budget options for a holiday in Tuscany with children.

MAREMMA or southern Tuscany, Italy. Located on the coast of Livorno, Pisa and Grosseto. These places are an excellent choice for a family holiday. They are small in size, reminiscent of dachas, and there are many protected parks around. Resorts in the south are equipped good service , modern infrastructure for budget prices. Beaches are included in the price, which is very convenient and profitable. There are both “closed” areas and always free.

ETRUSCAN RIVIERA is a province near Livorno. There are no embankments here, and there is little choice of leisure activities. Pizza, boutiques - only the essentials. Ideal for those exploring the whole of Tuscany and staying here for one day. Quiet, cubby for tourists traveling with children. Fertile air, sea.

But in the area of the Etruscan Riviera are located holiday towns with amusement parks, children's playgrounds, trampolines, water park. If you are planning to visit Pisa (it is very close to the Riviera), stop by for a wine tasting and enjoy gourmet cuisine, this is the place for you.

Free beaches:

  • LA SPIAGGIA DELLA LECCIONA
  • CALA VIOLINA
  • BUCA DELLE FATE
  • BARCOLA
  • In the vicinity of the MARINA DI CECINA resort

One of the most frequently asked questions, which I have to answer year after year when I start planning vacations summer season: "help me choose a resort in Tuscany, so that the sea is clean and deep, the beaches are sandy and free, and the evenings are not boring" with slight variations on the theme of a holiday with children, a married couple in search of peace and comfort, or, conversely, in a group of young people, it has been compiled into a single article, which, I hope, will be useful to you when preparing for a summer holiday at sea in Italy.

VERSILIA - traditional name northern coast of Tuscany. The most famous resorts - Viareggio with its suburbs Lido di Camaiore, Marina di Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi have long established themselves as prestigious places for summer holiday in Italy thanks to a well-developed infrastructure with a wide selection of hotels for every taste, expensive or traditional restaurants, cafes and evening cocktail bars. It's nice to stroll here in the evenings - all the suburbs are connected by the Passeggiata promenade, here are the best discos in Tuscany, shops and boutiques of all famous brands. From here it is easy to travel on excursions to the cities of Tuscany (about 100 km to Florence) or to Liguria with its wonderful Port of Venus and the Cinque Terre. The most convenient arrival airport is Pisa, but you can also consider airports in Florence and Bologna

Sandy beaches Versilia unusually wide, the sandy bottom is shallow, which simply pleases parents with small children. The water in the sea is quite clean, as far as is generally applicable to any sandy bottom; The cleanliness of the sea is evidenced by the Blue Flags of Quality, awarded in Italy only to environmentally friendly resorts that have passed a series of control checks. For many, the “minus” of Versilia will be the city beaches, all without exception paid, often with 15-20 rows of densely standing umbrellas. There are practically no hotels with their own beaches here, there are no free beaches on the outskirts of the resorts, so among all other vacation expenses you need to take into account the additional payment for those equipped with all comfort parameters beach places.

MAREMMA or southern Tuscany. Coast of Livorno, Pisa or Grosseto unlike Versilia, they are more democratic and have status family resorts. Small resort towns on the coast, more like holiday villages, located among a vast strip of protected pine parks and marked " Blue flags quality". The resorts themselves with developed infrastructure are designed more for the specifics Italian budget tourism. The clearest sea of Maremma with her endless sandy beaches leaves far away its prestigious northern neighbor - Versilia. Almost all hotels and aparthotels on the southern coast of Tuscany have own equipped beaches, already included in the price of your stay. Private beaches alternate with free “wild” areas, accessible to everyone, even tourists without a car.

ETRUSCAN COAST - one of the names coast of the province of Livorno Costa degli Etruschi- attracts numerous European tourists with the ideal opportunity to combine travel to Tuscany with a beach holiday. The coast of Livorno is especially convenient for day trips in all cities of Tuscany, even if you don't plan to rent a car. “Minus” of these places: in the evenings there is not as much entertainment here as in Versilia. Fans of evening promenades overlooking the sea will not be able to “take a walk along the embankment”, since there are no embankments at all in these towns. All resort life concentrated on the main street with pizzerias, cafes and small shops with the most necessary things. Recently, many people choose these places for have a relaxing holiday with family, and most importantly, because of the particularly favorable microclimate of pine parks near the sea.

Marina di Castagneto Carducci, Marina di Bibbona, Cecina Mare - holiday towns of the Etruscan Coast, where mainly Italian families with children relax: for children's entertainment there is an amusement park, playgrounds with inflatable trampolines, large water park. The resorts are located relatively close to Pisa airport (65 km) and are convenient for short excursions to Pisa, Volterra, Lucca, for wine tastings and gastronomic trips to agricultural farms or little-known medieval towns.

SAN VINCENZO - currently the most popular resort coast of Livorno. There is also a small “promenade” here, one main street with a dozen different boutiques, cafes and restaurants, where all vacationers walk in the evenings in the summer. In July and August, many events for tourists are held here - "White Nights", open-air concerts, fairs and markets. The newest yacht port "Marina San Vincenzo" - traditionally for such marinas, is a favorite place for evening walks and entertainment for Italians: an aperitif at sunset, dinner with a view of the yachts, Dj sets and music until late in the company of friends.

CASTIGLONCELLO- one of the most cute towns coast of Tuscany . This small and self-sufficient resort near Livorno was not so long ago famous place Italian "Dolce Vita". Even if now the entertainment of vacationers is concentrated on one main square, or in the nearby marina "Cala dei Medici", Castigliocello does not leave a feeling of provincialism, perhaps because of the Italians who prefer to spend their holidays here or come for the weekend. The town still remains a “fashionable place”, where colorful “bikers” from all over Tuscany always gather on Saturdays, and fairs and concerts are held in the summer theater in Castello Park. Since May, it is always lively here in the evenings, there are good restaurants on sea promenade and disco bars; there is a children's playground in the pine park in the center of the resort. The main disadvantage of Castiglioncello is the beaches, of which there are not many. Narrow beaches in coves (with a few exceptions of paid equipped beach complexes with bulk sand) are rocky with a pebble bottom, which is especially attractive lovers of clean water and snorkeling.

PUNTA ALA And CASTIGLIONE DELLA PESCAIA- the most prestigious resorts of Maremma Grosseto. Unfortunately, tourists expecting the same exclusive resort life Punta Ala with its small yacht port for luxury yachts, expensive villas, hidden from the eyes of strangers in the greenery of pine parks and an exclusive golf course - offers nothing. The main street with two or three expensive boutiques along the pier 100 meters away is only suitable for gatherings over a cup of coffee or dinner overlooking the yachts. Unlike Punta Ala in Castiglione della Pescaia cute historical Center with a real medieval borgo and castle, the port promenade and the main street are always lively day and evening with restaurants, bars and boutiques. These places have the cleanest sea in Tuscany with beaches of fine light sand framed by relict Mediterranean pine trees.

The “minus” of these places, oddly enough, is the infrastructure. These resorts cannot boast of a variety of hotels: good hotels are rare, with the exception of three5* hotel in Punta Ala. In addition, it is quite difficult from here to go on excursions to the cities of Tuscany on your own. Punta Ala steadfastly maintains the status of the present VIP resort Tuscany which provides a great opportunity isolate yourself from the outside world while on vacation, throw away all conventions and enjoy the comfort and complete relaxation of Italian resort life. This resort in southern Tuscany can only be rivaled by the most beautiful Argentario Peninsula - favorite place rest of the Roman establishment. Convenient airport Arrival - Rome (about 200 km), as well as Pisa (180 km).

For budget holiday in Maremma or holidays with children, you can safely choose Follonica or Marina di Grosseto, and Tirrenia near Pisa, which are positioned as inexpensive holiday by the sea in Tuscany. Follonica (GR) - perfect resort for those who feel cramped in small spaces dacha places and definitely needed Big city with a railway station, promenade, shops and more usual apartments for accommodation.

To select a location beach holiday don't forget about the islands of Tuscany- "Tuscan Sardinia" - Elbe with a huge offer of hotels and a lot of options for different types relaxing or unique del Giglio island with very modest prices and crystal clear sea - perfect place for lovers of recreation in close contact with nature, who are ready to sacrifice many of the benefits of civilization for this.

Instructions for tourists, Beach holidays in Italy, Tuscany

Sea, beaches and resort life in Tuscany

One of the most frequent questions I’ve been answering lately is “help me decide on the choice of a resort in Tuscany, so that the sea is clean, the beaches are sandy and free, and it’s not boring in the evenings...” with slight variations on the theme of holidays with children or in a youth company - has finally formed into a single article, which, I hope, will be useful to many.

Another reason for writing it, no matter how strange it may seem, is the absolute impossibility of giving an unambiguous answer to this question based on all the parameters of the “search” for a beach holiday. The fact is that the coast of Tuscany is very different, each with its own characteristics and its own “BUTs,” which I tried to present more or less clearly.

Versilia

The most famous resorts of the northern coast of Tuscany or Versilia (Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore, Marina di Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi) have long established themselves as prestigious places for summer holidays in Italy thanks to their well-developed infrastructure with a wide selection of hotels for every taste, expensive or traditional restaurants , cafes, evening cocktail bars. It’s nice to stroll here in the evenings - all the suburbs of Viareggio are connected by one wide promenade “Passeggiata”, here are the best discos in Tuscany, shops and boutiques of all famous brands. From here it is quite easy to travel on excursions to the cities of Tuscany.

And now about the main thing, about the sea. The sandy beaches of the Apuan Riviera are unusually wide, the sandy bottom is shallow (which is not very popular for fans of long swims, but just makes parents and children happy). The water in the sea is quite clean (as far as this is generally applicable to any sandy bottom), as evidenced by the “Blue Flags of Quality” awarded in Italy only to environmentally friendly resorts. BUT! here all the beaches are urban (especially in Viareggio) and paid, often with 15-20 rows of densely standing umbrellas. There are practically no hotels with their own beaches, there are no free beaches in walking distance, therefore, among all other vacation expenses, you need to take into account the additional payment for beach places. Thanks to charter flights to Pisa, our tour operators have their main offers here, so there are always a lot of Russian tourists in Versilia.

Resorts of southern Tuscany (the coasts of Livorno, Grosseto and Pisa)

Unlike Versilia, these places are more democratic and less pretentious! Small resort towns, or rather holiday villages, have a developed infrastructure, designed mainly for Italian family tourism. The sea here is very clean, with wide sandy beaches and easy access for children. Almost all hotels (3* and 4*) and even aparthotels in this part of the Tuscan coast have own beaches and swimming pools that alternate with free (“wild”) beaches accessible to everyone.

Riviera Etruscan It is especially convenient for day trips and excursions to all the cities of Tuscany, even if you do not plan to rent a car. BUT! – in the evenings there is not as much entertainment here as in Versilia. Fans of evening promenades overlooking the sea will not be able to “take a walk along the embankment”, since there are no usual embankments in these towns. The entire resort life is concentrated on one main street (500 meters) with pizzerias, ice cream parlours and small shops with the basic necessities. Recently, many people choose these places precisely because of a calm and relaxed holiday, and most importantly, because of the special, favorable microclimate of pine parks near the sea!

A few words about the towns themselves. Marina di Castagneto Carducci, Marina di Bibbona, Cecina Mare, Tirrenia- very quiet places where, mainly, Italian families with children relax (there are several playgrounds, amusement parks and water parks). Relatively close for small excursions to Pisa, Volterra, Lucca, wine tastings at farms or little-known medieval towns.

San Vincenzo Today it is the most popular resort on the Livorno coast. It also has its own small “promenade” (imagine one main street with a dozen different boutiques, cafes and restaurants, quite nice and calm, with resort houses of 2-3 floors), where all the vacationers pour out in the evenings in the summer. In July and August there are quite a lot of events for tourists. The newest yacht port "Marina San Vincenzo" is almost ready. Such marinas on the Tuscan coast are traditionally favorite places evening walks and entertainment: aperitif at sunset, dinner with a view of the yachts, evening cocktails with a DJ set.

Personally, I like the Tuscan coast best Castiglioncello– a small town near Livorno, was once the famous “Dolce Vita” resort of the 60s. True, here too all the entertainment of vacationers is concentrated on one main square, or in the nearby yacht port. But Castigliocello does not leave a feeling of provincialism, perhaps because of the Italians themselves who spend their holidays here or come for the weekend. The town still remains such a “fashionable place”, where colorful and quite nice “bikers” from all over Italy invariably gather on Saturdays, and performances and concerts are held in the summer theater at the Castle. As a resort it is ideal for a holiday for couples or small groups of young people in a typically Italian setting. The main “minus” of Castiglioncello is the beaches, of which there are not many here. Tiny beaches in coves, with a few exceptions for paid ones, have bulk sand, rocky with a pebble bottom, which especially attracts lovers of clean water and snorkeling.

Maremma or Grosseto Coast

Prestigious resorts in south coast Tuscany is considered Punta Ala and Castiglione della Pescaia. In Punta Ala, however, apart from a luxurious yacht port with expensive yachts and expensive villas hidden in the greenery of pine parks, there is nothing either. The main street with two or three boutiques along the pier with yachts 100 m! In contrast, Castiglione della Pescaia has a very nice historical castle center, the port promenade and the main street with restaurants, bars and boutiques are always lively in the evenings. These places have perhaps the cleanest sea in Tuscany with beaches of fine light sand. But Marina di Grosseto, which recently appeared in the proposals of our TOs, may seem even more “democratic” than the already mentioned towns of Livorno (by the way, it is positioned as an inexpensive seaside holiday in Tuscany).

The main "BUT" of these places, oddly enough, is the infrastructure. These resorts cannot boast of an abundance of hotels, good hotels There are very few 3* or 4* hotels (with the exception of three 5* hotels in Punta Ale). In addition, it is quite difficult from here to go on excursions to the cities of Tuscany on your own (however, recently, thanks to direct charters in Grosseto, Russian technical services have quite successfully solved this problem, offering group excursions in hotels). Punta Ala still remains on the sidelines, inaccessible in every sense to a wide range of tourists (it’s almost impossible to spend a vacation here without a car) and staunchly holding the bar as the “coolest” resort in Tuscany, which provides an excellent opportunity to isolate yourself from the outside world during your vacation!
